      Won't matter. The names are etched on 1x1cm silicon wafers with each wafer capable of holding over a million names.

      Only the poem is engraved on the spacecraft in a way that is visible to the naked eye.

        A 300um wafer that size weighs about 0.06g. Falcon 9 costs $2,720/kg, so assuming costs are the same as Falcon 9 then this wafer would cost NASA a little over 16 cents to launch into space.

          That’s to LEO, this is going much farther. Hence more fuel cost.

          The cost is more in the fabrication. Personally I think this is a waste of money but I get why they do it. NASA are pretty good with their marketing.

    Have a weird name - if the spacecraft suffers malfunction and they investigate it, only to find your name caused a small fracture; that grew and led to the demise of the craft - are you completely void of liability?

    NASA has been doing the send your name thing for years as a digital version, Hopefully they have good filters for removing the joke garbage because I'd be annoyed if they stopped doing this due to stupid antics.
