This is gonna get so ozbargained.

    • +7

That is the point free promotion for NASA. Many world outlets will cover it and millions will do it. Ozbargain is tiny peanuts.

    • +21

Won't matter. The names are etched on 1x1cm silicon wafers with each wafer capable of holding over a million names.

Only the poem is engraved on the spacecraft in a way that is visible to the naked eye.

      • +10

Yep. I'm still working on the poem at the moment.

But if you guys want your name mentioned in the poem - I'm happy to consider it, for a small fee.

          Roses are red
          Europa is grey
          This spacecraft is powered
          By Eneloop double-A's

          • +2

@chickentaste: better copyright this, otherwise it would be in the next Taylor's lyric :P

On the 10th of October at noon,
A ship made its way to this moon,
And though it looked all around,
          Nothing was found,
For Broden had got here in June.

        • +3

On Europa's ice, a moon so bright,
          Ozbargain's deals take wondrous flight.
          Jupiter's realm and discounts blend,
Two worlds of wonder, without end.

          • +1

@bio: There once was a prisoner called Europa
Who showered and dropped his Soapa
He picked it up quick, but time had taken its toll
and noone needed a spaceship telescope
            to see a black …………

      • +8

The naked eye of what species?

        • +3

Humans I'm assuming, but I don't know who coined the phrase or what they were thinking so my interpretation could be incorrect.

      • +2

It is a joke. Totally unecessary as said above: itch that needs a scratch.

      • +2

A 300um wafer that size weighs about 0.06g. Falcon 9 costs $2,720/kg, so assuming costs are the same as Falcon 9 then this wafer would cost NASA a little over 16 cents to launch into space.

        • +2

That’s to LEO, this is going much farther. Hence more fuel cost.

The cost is more in the fabrication. Personally I think this is a waste of money but I get why they do it. NASA are pretty good with their marketing.

          • @GeneralSkunk: Well lunar transfer orbit is about $13,900/kg for a Falcon Heavy launch, so a little over 83 cents then.

        • +1

          Waste of money.

  • +18

    Ozbargain was here

    • +4

      Someone should do that 🙂

    • +33

Do you think they will embolden the engraving for JV's name?

    • +5

      https://ibb.co/Z6YgrR5

Maybe an alien species will see it and post cheap spaceships on here.

  • +13

Sweet. The aliens will spare me now when they invade, I was one of the few that tried to reach out to them first.

    • +15

Other way round mate. They'll have your name, they'll be coming for you first.

  • +17

What if aliens read it and target for abductions?

    • +32

I'd rather be abducted by aliens than live in this economy

      • You'd rather be probed?

        • +10

Don't threaten me with a good time!

        • If it was those sexy "Nordic" aliens I wouldn't mind.

(I don't actually believe they exist just a joke based alien "lore")

    • +13

Check out the Kepler22bBargain website, they actually have better bargains than us

      • +11

The freight is a deal-breaker, though.

        • +3

Still can use VPN for their online deals.

  • +8

    "Mike Hunt"

  • +1

    Real name or ozbargain name?

    • Both.

    • jv might use their real name?

      • +3

        JV is a “they”?

        • +2

jv has always been a mystery in that department.

  • +12

So that alien civilisations can still my identity? No thank you.

    • +2

      *steal

      • +3

Not saying I have ADHD, but incredibly impatient when typing. I promise I know how to spell steal

"Each signee reserves a free, guaranteed spot for their name to be laser etched into a microchip mounted aboard the solar powered Europa Clipper robotic spacecraft"
There is already 400,000 people signed up. Aliens gonna need their glasses to read anything.

    • +13

      Hopefully they go to specsavers.

    • +2

What if the aliens are really really really small?

  • Be sure to out address of your ex on it.

  • +4

Have a weird name - if the spacecraft suffers malfunction and they investigate it, only to find your name caused a small fracture; that grew and led to the demise of the craft - are you completely void of liability?
    Added anyway! :D

    • +1

Genuine answer: You're void of liability since you're not the one doing the etching :)

  • Broken gets his own wafer

  • Godspeed

  • +2

I sent my address to space via NASA like 25 years ago, still no reply.

  • +2

Might as well throw in your DOB & home address, lets the alien data breach you.

    • Don't forget driver's licence.

  • Somehow my name bounced back to the Earth 🌎 🥰

  • +3

You might get scam calls from aliens.

  • Will this eventually make it to uranus?

    • Only Mike Hunt will make it to Uranus

      • What on earth will Mike Hunt actually do on Uranis?

  • +1

NASA has been doing the send your name thing for years as a digital version, Hopefully they have good filters for removing the joke garbage because I'd be annoyed if they stopped doing this due to stupid antics. I think we're safe though as OzB 13 year olds can't be the first set after all this time.

    • …theres always one!

      • +2

The irony of your comment is off the scale.

        • Mike Hunt says 'Hi!'…

          • +5

@franco cozzo: York Hunt is why we can't have nice things.

            • @syousef: see…that wasnt so bad! lol

              • @franco cozzo: I don't care how much you muck around here. I just don't want to lose this program due to childish antics.

Do you think our extraterrestrial neighbours will make contact if I put 'Call [Insert Number] for a Good Time ;) Highly rated in the Milky Way Galaxy ' on the Europa Clipper Spacecraft?
