[eBay Plus] Up to $25 off Variable Final Value Fees on any 3 New Listings (September 2023) @ eBay Australia

1022

Thanks to @bargainhunterjacob for the heads up. Looks like eBay has changed the original offer of 3x 0% FVF and replaced it with a new and worse offer if you sell anything over $200. But anyway, enjoy :)

Ebay being increasingly stingy with their promotions

    • +12

Agreed. But I'll take something rather than nothing. Maybe if everyone complained they'll do better.

      • +3

Maybe if everyone complained they'll do better.

I tried that. They were always sending me surveys asking “How can we make eBay better?” I kept telling them to bring back the regular $1 FVF weekends and $0 promos for smaller sellers. Now we get limited offers like these and only if you’re an eBay Plus member. I’ve certainly been selling a lot less on the platform than I used to, smaller value sales now go on Gumtree or FB Marketplace.

      • But I'll take something rather than nothing. Maybe if everyone complained they'll do better.

If you take something rather than nothing, they won't do better.

    • +3

IKR. It seems like every month they detract from their promos.

    • +1

      Ebay sucks

  • +2

    Pretty lame eBay

  • +8

Goodbye to fee free used phone sell off :/

    • +10

Yep. I've always waited for a FVF deal to get rid of old phones or tablets. Their fees are ridiculous otherwise. This fee cap makes ebay a MUCH less appealing option.

  • +12

    Ebay sucks

  • +13

Less and less reason to buy eBay plus

  • +13

Ebay's brightest minds working overtime to make Plus a less enticing proposition

  • +4

    Goodbye $1500 lens sales

  • That sucks. I have an auction listed with the 'fee free' deal ATM that ends this Monday (4th Sept).
Does anyone know if it'll still have no final value fee by that date?

    • Yes

    • +1

Yes it'll be fee free if it was listed under the old promo

    • +2

If you already sold 1 item in August and the August offer shows you successfully used 1 of 3 (or 2 of 3 if you sold 2 already), then you probably will still get the FVF waived. If not, check on 1st of September 00:00:00, if that offer disappears from your history of expired offers, then there is a good chance you won't get FVT waived.

      • Thanks. I'll check tomorrow.

  • eBay….always worse offers

  • +6

Tight bastards. My feebay plus runs out next month, it was a good run while it lasted. Will only sign up if they bring another cash back deal or sign up promo like the $80 voucher they gave us last year.

  • Ahahaahahahahah OUCH

  • +3

So they cancelled the previous deal?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/791 079

    • +1

      Looks like it

    • +2

I was gonna say, as soon as I saw this I thought they might have scrapped the previous promo. Pretty filthy move.

  • is there any way to check which of my listings are still on last month's promo?

    • +1

No. But any listing you make after activating the promo will apply on that promo.

For example, if you activated the August promo on 10th August and listed an item on 15th August, then it will apply to the August promo as long as it is sold within 30 days.

If in the example above the item didn't sell yet and you activated the September promo on lets say 2nd September and the item above sells by 15th September, then it will still attach to the August promo even though you have two promos running.

      • +1

That was the case months ago. However, it seems feeBay has changed the rules. For the past 2 months, a different rule seems to apply (at least to me).

It seems to now operate based on when the item is listed AND sold. It needs to be sold within the same month (for me).

If I were to list an item on the final day of the month (i.e. 31st of July), on the following day (1st of August), the July promotion would disappear from my history of accepted deal (if I sold 0 item successfully in July). In the event the item is sold on 1st of August, the FVF doesn't get waived (because it generally takes one or two days before next month's promotion link being available for me to activate the new one).

So, for August, I've listed the items early. It's best to have the August listed items sold today (30/08) or tomorrow (31/08). I don't rule out if someone already used and "sold" one item this month, the deal "might" extend (since it was used at least once successfully so it stays in your history, making it easier to argue with feeBay Support).

        • Can anyone else confirm this? I've never had a problem selling in the following month in the years I've been using any free listing promotion but havent done so in a while.

          • @bitcoinorbust: It started happening to me July 2023. When you can do is have a look at your list of expired promotions now. In the past, it used to list the final value fee waived ones for 2 months prior (how many used). In theory, I should have 2 used in July, but problem is since I did not manage to sell any successfully in July, despite accepting the offer and listed 2 of them, they no longer show in my "expired" accepted offers.

If you want to, take a screenshot of your August one right now or before end of 31/08 (coz. it might disappear 01/09). I wasn't expecting the change in July so it was a pain to chat to feeBay CSR in August to get that fee waived. Didn't take screenshot so feeBay CSR felt I did not accept the July offer.

          • +1

@bitcoinorbust: To add on, I had a conversation with an eBay support person a couple days ago because I forgot if the number goes down before or after your item sells and they told me near the end of the conversation to be careful because it only lasts for the duration of the month now and doesn't carry over.

Now whether these support people are telling the truth or not and whether they actually have all the facts or not, I don't know but I reckon it's better to be safe than sorry.

        • +3

Yes I can confirm this observation. However the issue seems to only occur if you have not sold anything in the previous month. If you haven't sold anything the promo seems to completely disappear in the promotional offers history box and it doesn't apply to the promo and you get charged full fees.

I can confirm that the trick as per my comment above still works as per my sales this month, assuming you've sold at least one item under the promo in that month.

          • +5

@I Smell Pennies: I wonder if ebay intentionally makes the whole promo so convoluted and difficult to manage so that sellers get caught out and ended up paying fees anyway.

          • @I Smell Pennies: so if you no longer see the Promotional Offer in your overview, is it best to end the items now and re-list after the Sept promo link activates?

I haven't sold any item in August and the Promo seems to have disappeared

      • Thanks. Thing is, I have quite a few items, most of them with a small quantity, been trying to roll the FVF promos for a few months.

Now I have no idea if something I listed as, say, in the July FVF promo, has sold enough to use up the 3 FVF quota, so whether I should delete and re-list in a few days after accepting this Sep promo.

  • +2

Damn this is bad as I sell item $1000-1500 …..

  • +3

Boycott eBay starting on the 1/9/2023. This new promotion isn't even thought through because eBay knows they tax a big % off each sale, $25 is a punch in the face as a member whos had an account since 2004.

    • +2

I want feeBay to allow me to terminate my feeBay Plus membership early. It feels like feeBay Minus membership with this change.

    • +1

Agreed, most other countries have thriving fee-free platforms for 2nd hand or small businesses e-commerce… Australia is very special in this regard.

    • +1

Boycott how? There's nowhere else to sell things.

I've tried FB Marketplace. It's very different and not a replacement for eBay.

      • -1

        That's the sad part.

  • -8

This isn’t a deal - it’s benefits that've been stolen away from eBay plus users!

    • +12

While you have a valid point there, I do still appreciate these type of posts as I never get any eBay fee free emails and I am only made aware and activated them through deal posts like these

    • +1

Saving $25 on two items would be equal to your yearly eBay plus sub. Just because it's not as good as previous months fvf deals, doesn't mean it isn't a deal at all.

  • Is it $25 FVF off every 1 listing (Up to 3) or $25 combined for 3 listings?

  • +1

eBay probably foreshadowing a lot of iPhone sales in September due to the iPhone 15 release.

  • -5

Yeah nah you can do better feebay

    • +2

      Can they do better? Sure
Does that make your neg valid? No

    • I belive ebay still got better deals than Amazon.

  • Thanks for sharing sir. Don't listen to the neggers.

  • +3

Maximum sale amount next month is $186.50 to be fee-free
Higher value items can still be sold next month if you have any unused slots and list or relist today.

    • relisting items does not allow for these type of promotions, i was slugged with it previous because the original listing was outside of the promo period.

      • Sell similar with slight changes. If CS wont budge when there is an issue best to just cancel and go again

    • Just adding in and that $186.50 is including postage. Went through some recently sold items and eBay now calculates fees on the final price including postage.

      • @fastnet they've always calculated fees based on cost + postage. At least over the last 7 years I've been selling.

      • +1

Yeah they have to do that otherwise people would sell items for $1 and then have $999 'postage'

  • +3

    More like eBaystards.

eBay buyers are becoming increasingly entitled, demanding and scammy anyway. I got scammed out of $450 last month (buyer "returned" an item but it was just 3x microUSB cables in a satchel, and got an automatic refund) – I only got it resolved after emailing the CEO. And just last week got a chargeback on a $1800 item because the buyer changed their mind (no returns accepted at my store).

Amazon has changed the average consumer's mindset and expectations. I've had my eBay account for 14 years, with 500+ 100% positive feedbacks. Never had these issues until recently.

Just cancelled my eBay Plus membership and declined their $30 gift card bribe. Good riddance.

    • +1

I've been on eBay a very long time, over 1000 feedback, and have for the past two years started selling a lot, including some $2k items. Apart from having one very angry and entitled customer (over a $13 item), I haven't had any problems (yet…). What kind of items do you sell? I'm wondering if I've been lucky, or whether some categories of items attract more fraud than others? I doubt I sell anything to teenagers for example, who may be more prone trying to cheat the system.

    • Every marketplace is going to have shitty people that do stuff like that.
Personally, I'm at 342 100% positive feedback in a bit over 3 years and never had major issues at all. Only ever had one person submit a return request, but I resolved it with them.

It's part of the risk with selling online and unless your items are going through a middleman that checks the item when you send or someone returns it, then you'll find bad actors who just abuse the system.

If you live in a large city and have the time, facebook marketplace and gumtree will serve you better anyway. (As long as you know how to avoid the scams)
Unfortunately, I don't have the luxury of lots of potential local buyers, so ebay is the only option for me.

  • +5

Apparently the 0% is same in September, on live chat the rep said:

"I would like to share with you that you will again get the same promotion of 0% variable fee in the september so you can list the item within that promotion and can avail the promotion."

"Please be rest assured as eBay used to roll out 0% variable fee for 3 listing every month. So in september as well you will receive the same promotion of 0% variable fee for 3 listings."

although grain of salt on support rep accuracy.

apparently this is another promo also the $25 off variable

"This is another promotion as well for which you are eligible."

    • Nice one, cheers

      • +1

I have my doubts though, as reps wording sounds like an assumption but fingers crossed!

        • +1

Mental note. If September has the 0% FVF applied, sell ONLY and ALL > $200 items I can. The gauntlet has been thrown and it sounds like after this time around, it isn't coming back.

    • +4

      Never trust eBay CS

      • +2

They don't have access to upcoming promotion info.
So they just guess or read info on current ones (the same details anyone can access)

      • +1

agreed, this live chat rep, like most live chat reps, is just making s**t up to keep us happy in the short term.

        • Or "wait another 48 hours and try again, the issue will be resolved…" or "escalated and someone will follow up within 48 hours" but never happen. Likely because CS knows that any feedback link will expire after 48 hours so you can't leave them an unresolved feedback!

          • @Buy2Much: Yeah that’s a good one! I should just start leaving unresolved feedback immediately after they make promises like that!

    • eBay chat reps have been utter garbage in my experience. I wouldn't take this advice, even with a grain of salt.

If this was true, it would be a new deal with a new T&Cs link.

Looking at the last deal - eBay have instead updated the existing link for September to be this 0%-up-to-$25 deal.

My confidence in this live chat person is below zero.

      • +1

I concur, utter garbage support team.

They don't understand their own promotions or policies, just try to close the call without giving anything to the customer.

Long waits, getting passed from one department to the next. Trash all round

        • My god the amount of times I've been passed around with an issue by the live chat team, and when I ask them specifically their role on live chat is or what their team specialises in, they actively avoid the question.

You're spot on - they definitely only care about being able to churn customer interactions.

    • +1

      Whatever happened to this?

  • +2

This deal is a bit disappointing. I have become accustomed to waiting for the 3x fee free offers and timing the sales of $500-$1000 items. I'll still take the free $75 though, as it's more than the eBay Plus fee.

  • +1

    The August promo did state:

The promotion runs from 00:00 (AEST) on 1 August 2023 and will be available for a limited time only, for as long as advertised on the eBay.com.au site (“Promotion Period”).

There's a chance the 0% fees will continue in September

  • +1

    bloody ebay….

  • Can anyone confirm, if I list an item today under the August 0% fees promo, will this still apply if the item sells, say on a 7 day auction in early September?

    • Yes that’s been my experience. Although some people have reported that it didn’t work for them.

  • +1

They’ve bumped the $25 fee promo to the 5th Sep

    When does the promotion run?

The promotion runs from 00:00 (AEST) on 5 September 2023 and will be available for a limited time only, for as long as it is advertised on the eBay.com.au site (“Promotion Period”).

    • Thanks, changed date on post

    • the new way they skimp out? coming soon list and sell within 1 day

  • Bad news on the 0% FVF front, I tried reactivating the August offer and instead of either activating the next month, or saying "you've already accepted this deal", it has the red message saying that this promotion has expired.

    • It's a different link each month nowadays and it is unsafe to assume there will be one for September simply based on a response from an feeBay CSR from an online chat. Those CSRs are known to inform you what you want to hear (to calm you down) rather than actual facts. That CSR implied we will get 2 discount offers in September, which does sound too good to be true. I love to be proven wrong (i.e. we will get both 3 free FVF waived and 3 additional FVF waived up to $25 each).

The new feeBay seller discount deals are getting worse. Harder to activate and more restrictive.

  • In my case nothing sold over the month, so I still had 3 unused slots as of months end. I relisted the items to give myself a full 30 days to sell them in September but based on comments here you need to have sold at least 1 item to keep the promotion alive - correct?

    • I sold 2 items in August and had 1 remaining and listed an item yesterday with the hope the fvf would still be active but the promotion is gone off my selling tab and won't let me activate it again.

      • Right, so you listed on the last day of August. Based on comment I read it should be OK but they also mentioned the promo still needs to be visible.
Not at all sure what would happen if it sells. My August promo is gone from 'Expired promotional offers' too

        • +1

mines visible in expired, i used 2 and 1 still going.

    • +1

Yeah @King Tightarse unfortunately from mine and @netsurfer's experience, example - if you didn't sell anything under the August promo and you listed some items in August and sold in September, you'd be charged full fees. Also the promo would not be visible on the "expired" tab of promotional offers.

The only way to not be charged fees (i.e. get 0% fees) is if you sold at least 1 item under the promo.

      • +1

Thanks ISP. Will go ahead and cancel my listings. Cheers

        • +1

No worries. It's something new, because I used to do it with no problems, so I was surprised when it happened in June or July for me.

        • +1

Check your expired offers, if you can see August FVF waiver deal there, then at least you can go to CSR and prove you accepted that offer so you listed 3.

For me, I just checked, despite having sold 2 last month and did get the FVF waived for those 2, I no longer see that offer in my expired promotions. Now, I am not sure even having item(s) sold is safe to warrant the unsold ones can continue the following month now. It certainly was a few months ago, but now it feels like eBay is not really willing to give us these FVF waiver deals.

        • +1

I think I'll do the same, better to be safe and cancel the listing

I can't even see the promo in the expired tab

  • “Eligible Listings” means item listings that are:
    * newly listed on eBay.com.au during the Promotion Period (i.e. they cannot be relisted items through ‘Good ‘til Cancelled (GTC) or auto-renewal);
    * in multi-quantity or single quantity fixed price or auction format only

Just asking if anyone has sold with a listing with both Fixed price (Buy it now) plus Auction components?

  • +1

Help. I'm confused, I listed items last month under the pay no fees offer, none ended up selling. Do I need to remove the listings and re post my ad in order to take advantage of this new deal?

    • +1

if items are less than 30days listed, they are still covered by last month promo.

if already auto-renewed, then need to end list -> sell similar to enjoy new promo.

    • +1

If you have captured a screenshot showing you have accepted the August offer and willing to chase up FeeBay Support if FVF still got charged, then you could keep them listed (obviously cancel before auto-renew of listings starts).

If you can no longer see that offer in your list of expired promotions, then from FeeBay's new shrewd system, officially, August promotion has finished for you. That means even if you had screenshot (or screenshots) saved, you will probably still get charged final value fees once the items are sold and you will need to contact FeeBay CSR to sort out the mess.

If you can see it in the list of expired promotions, save the screenshot a.s.a.p. It's likely your items are still covered.

Some OZBers can still see the August FVF waiver promotion in their expired promotions. However, for me, instead of seeing 2 of 3 used (since I did manage to sell 2 last month), I no longer see that deal in my expired ones.

You cannot re-list immediately yet because the September deal link is not available yet.

  • -3

    activation link wen

    • "The promotion runs from 00:00 (AEST) on 5 September 2023 and will be available for a limited time only, for as long as it is advertised on the eBay.com.au site (“Promotion Period”)."

As is stated in the post, the date the deal goes live AND the terms and conditions if you click through to the "deal"

So assume some time from 00:00 on tuesday but potentially later as they are infamous for being late with promotions going live.

      • So there's a gap between the August promotion ending and this one starting.. better hold off on spring cleaning!
