can i do 1 cent transaction?

  • Wasn't going to bother with this, but seems like this may be a good alternative to the citibank plus account which is being merged into nab soon.

    • I didnt see no international fees

However, you gotta remember to constantly put in 2k, and take it out lol

      • If it’s your main account into which your salary is paid though, you’ll meet this requirement easily.

I’m seriously thinking of changing over from Citi/NAB both because of the Qantas points and also because I have YouTube set up through Argentine billing and Argentina apparently doesn’t like Visa.

  • Just recieved my card and the activation process is the super confusing, second to none.

Checked their web portal and the app but there is no place to activate it at all.

    • +1

I was able to easily activate it in the cards section on the app. Just had to enter the expiry date and and make a pin.

    • Mine just doesnt work.
If activated, I should be able to see the card details.
If not, I should be able to activate it.

      screenshot

      • yeah, that's odd, probs need to give them a call then. My card was always visible in that tab, even before receiving it.

  • +6

When does the monthly cycle start for the 10 transactions? Is it on the 1st of each month, or 30 days from the day the account is activated?

    • +3

Asked via online chat and got the following response:

"I have been able to confirm with a specialist that in this case, you would need to make the purchases between the date the account is opened up until the final date of the month it was opened and again between the 1st day and the last day of the following month.

For example, if you opened the account on the 11th of September, your purchases would need to be within 11th and 30th of September, and again between 1st and 31st of October."

      • lol this is quite concerning, I got a totally different response when I just chat with them via live chat.

"To confirm, it would calculate off calendar days and start from when the account was opened. I can see you account was opened on 20/09/2023 (today), in this case, you have from now until roughly late December."

Not only is their verification process bad, the app and website seem pretty 90's. Plus agents giving out different responses is concerning.

        • It better be statement month, because I opened my account on Sep 27th

          • @puffinfresh: Wonder if the same conditions apply to the monthly min deposit to waive the account fee ie is it the 1st-30th or whichever date you are approved on.

            • @johnjones8: I would say yes. The end of your statement period is when they would decide if that $6 fee needs to be added or not.

      • +1

Well, if this is the case. I think I will just wait till early October to open the account otherwise I will have to rush to do 10 transactions within 10 days. And it is also not clear in the T&Cs that if transactions have to be settled within the same month. Wish it is a lot more clearer.

        • +2

I asked on live chat and was told its 30 days from approval date. I suppose that only make sense because if you apply close to the end of the month it is impossible for you to receive the bonus points on this deal as it would take a few days to receive the card and you would of missed the condition for the first month.

          • @Purkulator: It makes sense. I didn't apply for the account late last month and there was another reason. I would be overseas late Nov and Dec. Not sure if I would be able to make 10 eligible transactions while away overseas for the month of December. I suppose I can use the card to pay my utilities bills but 10 transactions will be difficult to do.

Does this have a digital card or can you add this to a mobile wallet before the physical card arrives?

    • I was able to add to Apple Pay Wallet after account creation. Even made transactions using the Card shown in the App.

    • Yes. You can add your card to Samsung Pay or Google Wallet manually. You can view your card details (card number, expiry, CVV) within the app. You will most likely need to go through a verification process over the phone to activate your digital card.

  • So if one was to do $1 transaction at coles. Would this earn 3 qantas points?

Do the points earned from eligible transactions get paid monthly?

  • whats the minimum age to open the account?

  • Juat added card to my Google pay. You can do it in app to ask online chat to add the card to Gpay. Then the card will automatically show up in your wallet.

Super hard to set this up, I have to call them

Seems Bankwest still has a grudge and I'm banned from applying for any of their products.

    • What for?

    • Pretty sure that’s why I was sent straight for review too. You think they would have learned from that. Telstra did. Or maybe we’re meant to be the ones that have learned? 😉

      • Yeah they’ve banned those people that took advantage of their generous offer for life I think.

  • +1

Just a warning it takes more than an instant to transfer money out lol Stuck since Monday night, says up to 3 business days? Lucky I don’t need it straightaway.

    • Doesn't seem to be any way to increase the fast transfer limit from 1.5k?

      • I only did 1k to test. Didn’t even know there’s a fast transfer and a limit too…

        • I also got the warning that it might take 3 days but the transfer was processed instantly.

          • @capslock: Maybe it’s a new payee thing? Fund is still missing.

            • @frugalftw: If you make a payment using the app or online banking, we'll automatically send your payment as a Faster Payment if it's eligible (and you're registered for SMS code).

If you're not registered for SMS code, to make a Faster Payment in online banking you'll need to choose the 'Faster Payment' option when making your payment. You'll only be able to choose this option for existing payment recipients, so you can't make Faster Payments to new recipients without SMS code.

My first transfer to a new Payee was not fast and it took 2 business days. But any payments to the same payee after that is automatically sent via 'Faster Payment' (which is Osko basically). On the last step of the Payment Process which is "Confirm", you will see "Via Osko" just above the "Yes, this is correct" button.

              • @elecpurch: Thanks. I just saw the funds now. Out of curiosity, I transferred it back and test it for this round. It doesn’t give me any options about fast payment, ETA says ‘4 hours. Why 4 hours? As you are paying someone new, it may take 4 hours or more.’ Doesn’t give me a lot of confidence when a bank doesn’t know I’ve sent money to the same account before, plus it’s saved in the payee list. I also couldn’t add it to Apple wallet. Had an awkward 20 mins at Woolies checkout talking to a rep trying to fix it. They couldn’t in the end, without the physical card in my hand.

                So far it’s not great.

                • @frugalftw: That's strange! My transfers between this account and uBank have been quick. I am not sure if it was instant as I did not check straight away but definitely less than an hour. I will post here when I do my next transfer. I activated my digital card on the very first day and have not come across any issues using it. I am on Android though so the card is saved on Google Wallet. Have not used the physical card since the day I received it. My only worry is Bankwest having the final say about transactions and which ones are eligible as others have mentioned here.

                  • @elecpurch: I'm having this problem with this account transferring from CBA. Normally all my transfers out of CBA are OSKO instant. BankWest I have to wait 24 hours + for funds to hit. CBA said transfers are not going via Osko and it's nothing their end. BankWest isn't replying to my messages :(

                  • @elecpurch: Just my luck hopefully :) Funds not arrive yet, it’s been two hours.

I made a few $5 split payments at Coles to take the pressure off. I think if you do it for a reasonable amount, it’s still ok. I try to make it around the price you’d pay for a coffee. Would be nice if repaying zip pay is covered tho.

  • I just had 10k Qantas points land in my account already - surely it can't be from this offer?

    • Can you check your Bankwest account for QFFP?

  • Wer do u add ur qff number?

  • Anyone knows if beem counts? Otherwise not worth the effort I feel

  • -1

Beemit is not listed under the terms and conditions for transactions noted eligible
    Can someone confirm?
    https://www.bankwest.com.au/content/dam/bankwest/documents/l…

    • You can't use beenit to pay anyway

      • You can for eftpos

        • Odd, FAQ from beemit said CC is only for beem checkout only - don't know that tgat is.

Can you share what you can use CC to pay in BeemIt?

  • I tried making 10x purchases today at Woolies. All purchases say processed 30/09, but on the app is listed under 02/10 transactions. Has this happened to anyone else?

    • I bought something today, comes up as 2 October as well…

      • Seems dodgy particularly if the payment is processed already ..

    • Same thing happened to me 😞

      • I had that happen at the end of September. I assume I'll have to call and fight for the points.

  • Has anyone tried to use the beem trick to see if it counts as a transaction?

  • +1

    Can't even verify ID online

    • yeah.. had to take it to auspost to validate the id. bit of a pain.

  • Has anyone got their Qantas points for the month of Sep (not the bonus but the actual spend)?

    • how did u add ur QFF number?

      • +2

It was during the initial signup process.

        • Thanks. don remember of entering my qff number during sign up. i'l check with the support

    • +1

QFF points were in my account today.

      • Thanks, just checked mine and the points are there.

  • Cheers OP.

Gotta admit it was a pretty smooth onboarding process, from submitting application to having an activated card in my Apple wallet in ~10min.

  • How are the months counted? Is it calendar?
What if you apply for the card end of month and receive it after the 1st? Would that mean you have not met the requirement for the first month?

  • So has anyone received their first month's statement yet? Since that would settle the question of the statement period date range.

    • No statement yet. Opened account on 4th of September

  • Does anyone know if card payments via PayPal are eligible? Thanks.

    • I hope so! I think they must be because I received 33c for 11 transactions and a number were PayPal.

      • Thanks. Good to know. I will do some transactions using PayPal and then ask customer services.

        • Did you manage to get a confirmation on PayPal transactions?

          • +1

@elecpurch: Not yet. Only used the card via PayPal couple of days ago and haven't got time to email them yet. Will do it now.

  • +2

This is the worst, most painful application process ever, and it's for a transaction account!!
Hardly worth the time and effort at this stage, they want more info after an auspost Id check.

  • Bankwest is probably the worst bank I have dealt with so far. Tried to open an transaction account, their ID was a pain (saw this from other comments so I was prepared to go to auspost to verify my ID). Made an uneventful trip to auspost for the ID check, then got an email to ask me to call them, where I was greeted by a sassy "consultant" over the phone who just gave me attitude. Apparently they had my birthday detail wrong from the application (could have been my fault tbh). Thought that was the end of this painful experience. Two weeks later I was still waiting for a confirmation/ mail. Called them again, only to be told that "sorry this was overlooked". The consultant I spoke to the second time also gave me an attitude. I will definitely close the account as soon as I get the points. But wondering if the 10K points are even worth the pain.

  • Hey guys. Just a reminder. It's a new month now. Don't forget transfer 2k and make 10 transactions.

    • So has it been confirmed that the cycle is every calendar month and not when you joined?

  • +4

I just wanted to let everyone know that, i just got off the phone with bankwest and they confirmed that the 10x transactions are per calendar month!! I unknowingly opened my account on the 31st of October at 6:50pm, so i said to her how am I meant to do 10 transactions then. She said that the sales team was aware of it, but they deem that you can make the 10 transactions as soon as the account is open because you can use the card in your didgital wallet straight away.

She said i could put in a claim for a good will gesture and see if they will still honour the points! How ridiculous!

    • +1

What about the fact that transactions don't clear the same day, and are often listed again the following day's date?

I signed up Sep 27 and did 10 transactions by Sep 30, but because it was a weekend, many are shown under Oct 2.

    • they deem that you can make the 10 transactions as soon as the account is open

They definitely don't have their system figured out then since I did exactly that and same with a relative who opened their one on the same day around early September soon after this deal was posted. I never got the points for that month while the relative got theirs combined with the 2nd month's statement. Go figure haha.

      • You guys are getting statements? I opened an account on Sep 27 and still don't have my first statement in the app.

        • Nah, none

        • Sorry I didn't mean an actual statement summary etc, just meant the monthly cycle at the beginning of the month when the points were received around the 5th.

  • Has anybody had any experience with this card overseas?

From my experience it was a nightmare. I got this card as it seemed to have great travel options. But 9/10 times the card wouldn't let me withdraw cash from ATM's. It would go through the motions, and the right at the end that ATM would say it was cancelled. Then when I could find an ATM that did work, that same international companies ATM wouldn't work at another location.

I could use the card to pay bills, I did update the account to let them know the dates when and where I was overseas, but going to an ATM to get Cash out, just worked once out of 10 attempts at different locations.

So heads up if you plan to use this Card overseas, be prepared that it might not allow you to take out Money at an ATM.

  • Will I be still eligible if I open the account in November and make 10 transactions in the next 3 months - Nov, Dec and Jan ?

    • I would like to know as well

  • Any idea how long does it take to get the physical card via mail(Sydney metro) from the day of account opening ?

  • I asked in the chat if about my 10 transactions that showed up a day late (next calendar month).

"When a transaction is made using your Debit Mastercard, it will show as a pending Authorisation Only for up to 7 business days.

The timeframe for this to be finalised and show as a fully processed transaction depends on when the merchant finalises the charge in their system. I'm sorry to say, we aren't able to change the date a transaction has been finalised and charged.

I can confirm though, if it helps, we don't base this on calendar months. You have a rolling 30 days to complete the 10 transactions per month."

Seems people are getting conflicting info. Will be interesting to see how it goes.

    • +1

Guess we'll start finding out at the beginning of next month since the earliest sign ups should be getting their 10k point bonuses by then? Sep - Oct - Nov, unless they hold off the points allocation until January.

  • Got my statement today, after using the Bankwest card as my main transaction card for the past 3 months, and having spent $17K through both online and in store purchases… The 309 qantas points earned on transactions is pretty disappointing :( and no 10K points bonus either.

    • did you reach out to support and asked the reason ?
I have registered only in November and did the $2k deposit + 10 transactions and planning to repeat in Dec and Jan with a hope to receive the 10k points.

Edit: from the terms - 10,000 bonus Qantas Points will be credited to the Qantas Frequent Flyer Account linked to the Bankwest Qantas Transaction Account within 60 days of you meeting the eligibility criteria.

I think you need to wait 60 days after meeting the third month criteria.

    • 17k purchases you should be churning cc’s instead!

November is my third month making 10 purchases in the month. From memory the t&c’s mention receiving the additional bonus points within 60 days

      • +2

I know :( I had to give up my CC's to get the best rate to refinance my home loan, but i'm in the green to apply again now

I just realised that bankwest transaction account is "3 qantas points per transaction"… not per dollar… i'll hand in my ozbargain card now lol

        • Yeah I was excited when I read 3 points but read it twice.

Previously I believe there were people doing batch transactions somehow for 1 cent each but Bankwest cracked down on that pretty quickly after they got 10’s of thousands of points

        • As well as CC churning, the other thing is to park cash in a MacBank transaction account, which offers 4.75% (vs about 1.1% for Bankwest, if you value Qantas points at 1c each).

Still waiting on my 10K bonus too FWIW.

        • Oh wow. Thanks for sharing.
