      • Don't you mean a total of 30?

        • Yeah seems like most of the comments here are missing the detail that you need to do 10x a month and not just 10x total.

  • +2

If you dont use it for flights, whats the next best value to convert it into?

  • So you need to have the account open for 3 months but the promotion ends Nov 30th – does this mean you have to open the account tomorrow?

    • No

    • +2

No, because the T&Cs say "for customers who open an account between" those dates

  • Interesting. Might pair this with Qantas Premier Platinum for its 'Plus an additional 20,000 bonus points if you haven’t earned Qantas Points with a credit card in the last 12 months.'
    Transaction account + credit card.

  • Anyone has experience link multiple bankwest family members' accounts to one person's Qantas account to cumulate the points? Is this allowed?

    • +1

I haven't seen it in the terms, but it is extremally unlikely you would be able to pair accounts where the names don't match.

  • -2

So this is a debit card so they won't do any credit checks?

  • Can this account be used to offset a bw mortgage?

  • Ah the old days i would do 50x per day for Telstra…

  • 3 Qantas points per eligible transaction. Surely this is open for abuse…

A few years ago I remember someone here getting millions of points by taking advantage of a similar offer by another bank (auto script to do 1c transactions).

  • +2

If you already have a different type of bankwest transaction account can you qualify for promo if you open this qantas account? Or do you need to close the transaction account wait 30days then apply for this offer?

    • +1

Looks like the current transaction need to be closed 30 days before apply for this offer

  • Any transaction type limitation ? Apple Pay, pay wave, online transaction.. etc

  • +1

Anyone miss the days when this account used to earn 20k+ points a month

    • I'd venture a guess that those people had their accounts closed won't be able to open a new one

  • A fair bit of hassle for a measly 10K points, but free is free.

  • We have three mortgages with Bankwest and a bunch of offset accounts, wonder if I am still eligible to open one of these accounts. Trying to consolidate finances and get away from Suncorp.

  • +1

do you need to do 10 transactions per month for 3 months? So 30 transactions?

  • Realistically, who has the opportunity to spend money once every three days? Don’t people have to work, gym and home? I guess if you have to buy coffee or take out that’s easily doable?

    • why is it every 3 days?

      10x 1c transactions

      • +1

I’m trying to think like whomever came up with the criteria.

        • +1

making 10 payments in a month is quite easy, particularly for people who are out of the house a lot. Bit harder for ppl who work from home

    • +1

You could make 3-4 purchases every Saturday. Bread from one store, milk from a 2nd store, eggs from a 3rd store and then a drink from a 4th to recover from all that running around.

      • +4

I thought they built supermarkets so we don’t have to shop around town and chitchat with all the friendly shop keeps 😑

      • +1

can we just split payment and do 10x for a box of tissue at coles self checkout? i done that with ING requirement

    • I understand this is a NSW thing, but I'm going to trial this with the Bankwest Qantas debit:
      https://transportnsw.info/news/2023/express-mode-for-apple-p…

Hopefully the Opal fare deducted counts for the 3 Qantas points.
Unless Bankwest detects it as a 'government charge' …

      • +1

That’s an interesting one. I forgot you could use your normal credit/debit cards in NSW, it’s already pretty good, now even better.

      • +3

According to the MCC list, Opal is classified as Transportation, not Government, so you'll be right.

        • Legend!
          I've bookmarked that page now.

        • How did you go with Opal transactions?

      • Can you confirm when you've tested this, if it does count? Thanks!

        • I’ll try!!
I’m concerned BankWest will just make a deposit end of month as a lump sum.
I can’t find a ‘reward transaction activity’ within online banking or in-app either.

          • +1

@wutang01: Yup, Bankwest says in the Qantas rewards terms and conditions that they deposit points once a month.

    • +1

Realistically I think very few people make less than that many transactions. Probably much less than 1%. A bus ticket here, a coffee there, a drink at a bar… and you’ve already done your 3. It is not onerous.

  • did I just read 3 points for any eligible purchase?

    • Yes, however its per transaction, not per dollar spent.

      • yeah what a weird arrangement

must want like under $1 transactions

  • Can you withdraw the $2000 the 2nd day after deposit to the account and still quality for the account fee waiver?

    • +1

cant see why you couldn't withdraw it on the same day or transfer it into a linked BW savings account

    • You can withdraw the nano second it arrives in your bank account. Partially with payid and fast pay. You can transfer in and out very fast. Note you will lose interest for that one day.

      • Just did that this morning but with $1K.

Trx $1K from my account to HSBC
Then ping pong that between HSBC and BW (both needed $2K deposited/month). Then finally to MeBank.

        • Why wouldn't u just deposit the amount so you can be hsbc premier? The money doesn't have to stay there. The main advantage is you can call the premier line instead which 24/7 line and gives you customer service in english, mandarin and cantonese. Also allows you to open accounts overseas. Really l just use it for the paywave rebate but sometimes need to call customer service and withdraw money overseas. The premier relationship manager depends who you get. The persob l got is not very good he couldn't even tell me about the new premier cards.

The qantas premier world mastercard now is also free with 1 to 1 qantas points up to 120k. The currently promotion is 1 to 1.5 qantas points up to 120k first year. I am considering as using this as my direct debit credit card.

I literally do the transfer on the first day so both hsbc and ubank saving account meet their requirements.

          • @pandadude: That's a great card, esp if you have a business to build points up!

      • I did this and they blocked my account. now have to go to post office to prove my identity. :(

  • do you they issue you with a platinum debit card and is this card fee free for overseas transactions?

  • Does it show eligibility for the bonus Qantas points anywhere? I didn't see it anywhere during the sign up process

    • click the picture at the top right of this page

    • Yeah, I was wondering the same i.e. if there's a tracker in online banking or the app.
I'm not sure at this stage.

  • It seems like Bankwest don't like people gaming the system.

It's not so hard to buy some gift cards, and just pay for fuel or something here and there to make it look legit.

But even transferring money in and out could be considered gaming the system.

I think a lot of banks will tire of CC flippers too, and I noticed a lot of online businesses changing refund policies.

Unfortunately, people abuse the system and eventually it backfires.

    • But even transferring money in and out could be considered gaming the system.

If you mean the monthly fees then other banks don't seem to care about it.

I think a lot of banks will tire of CC flippers too, and I noticed a lot of online businesses changing refund policies.

Not sure how you conflate CC flippers with refund policies unless you've been meeting the minimum spend and then refunding the entire amount or something. They've already been upping the annual fees and reducing the bonuses anyway.

      • Yeah, I mean simply people who cancel the card the day they get the points.

I wouldn't be surprised, in future if they force you to hold the card for at least 6 months or something in the terms of conditions.

        • +1

I do wonder how the current incentive of additional-points-if-you-keep-the-card-for-another-year is working out for NAB etc.

          • @vawiyoci: I kept the card till I got the second batch of points after 12 months, then canceled and got my fee back pro rata.

            • @Yola: They have shut down pro rata, well started too.

Like i said, abuse something and they shut it down sooner or later.

  • +1

Made 9x Amazon GC purchases and a hold has been put on the card. Anyone else experience this?

    • In regard to this account, do they send you a debit credit card? People only signed up today, so you already can start using the debit credit card I'm assuming? Confused how you used so quickly.

Someone in the previous post, mentioned they did the Coles trick of purchasing or splitting in order by 10 ways of $0.01 or $0.05 and apparently they blocked that customer getting the points said they were gaming the system.

      • +1

I think they are using the card from the app

      • -1

In that case they're not sure if was the 1c part or the all-at-once that was the offending issue for Bankwest to place the block though. As my other comment above if bankwest cares that much they should just stipulate the exact criterias in the T&Cs eg must be 10 separate transactions of $10 or more and no more than 3 transactions a day at once etc etc.

        • Whether or not something's mentioned in the terms and condition, normally in those terms and conditions, it also states that the bank or the business can adjust or reject based on such and such

So if they didn't say $0.01 or $0.05 or $1 or $10 someone would still be trying to game the system.

What they should say is, any attempt to gain the system for points alone will be rejected or possibly rejected and saying that if you do that you may be blacklisted from opening an account with them in the future.

I don't think that would be as much fun for them as letting you open account and wasting your time and then rejecting you based on what they believe is gaming the system.

I guess you could say they have a sense of humor?

Well considering one of the previous commenters that got banned literally had a customer service agent tell them that they technically didn't do anything against the t&cs / couldn't outright prove what they did was 'fraudulent' but they still couldn't reverse it, seem like BW does need to make it clearer or add more conditions.

      • You can see card details in the app after you sign up

    • same here… now need to go to the post office for identity verifications.. such a hassle

    • Did you get the hold removed yet?

      • Yep, apparently it was just an automatic hold due to their fraud detection system

        • Were you doing the $1 GC thing or higher legitimate amounts lol? If the former wonder if that means it's a legitimate means of meeting the minimum monthly transaction criteria.

  • No option to verify my ID online and now I need to go into a branch or AustPost to verify myself?

And no branches in VIC so I have to go to AustPost after printing out the form. So much trouble to get 10k points.

    • I hope you'll have better experience than me last time. The lady at Post was struggling with the scanning software that it keep on rejected my ID. She claimed it's BW system. Took almost 30min to get a simple task done.

      • +1

        Took almost 30min

Kudos to them in not telling you to go somewhere else after 2 failed tries lol. All the post offices near me seem to be jammed packed whenever I go.

    • +1

Is there a fee for verifying your ID at Aupost?

      • +1

        No.

  • +1

Anyone else having trouble adding the card to google wallet? The only option is to call for the code

    • Did you end up calling them? I think I've had to do that once before with ANZ that also for some reason at the time didn't offer sms verification but did on subsequent cards.

      • +1

Nah cant be bothered to call. Will just wait for the physical card.

  • +1

Do we need to add a Qantas Platinum Debit?

  • How many 1c spilt transactions do you think i could do at colesworth before i get banned (by bank or supermarket….)

    • +1

      9

    • You won't get banned, they just won't give you the points.

  • Looks like need to deposit $2000 for 3 month to get eligible and then for 2 more month to get QFFP

  • Has anyone else tried adding the debit card into google/apple wallet using the details from the app before the physical one arrives? Getting stuck on the final step where it usually asks you to verify with a sms text but coming up with an unknown error.

    • There’s a button in the ios app which adds it to apple pay without having to manually enter the details and that worked fine for me.

  • Anyone encountering the 'Our online application service is currently unavailable' error? Have tried on safari and chrome encountering the same issue.

Edit: I was able to resolve this by creating an Easy Transaction Account first.

    • +1

with a current easy transaction account, you no longer eligible for the Qantas offer

  • Anyone else get the 'employment status required' error but there's no field on the form for employment status?

  • Anyome know if I currently already have Bankwest Easy Transaction Account, Am I still eligible for the Qantas Transaction Account offer? Thanks.

    • See their T&Cs above.

  • I'm not sure I can be bothered doing this 😂

10 transactions isn't so bad, but it seems if you did the mall in a few days and then didn't use your account for 3 weeks, they may use it against you

It seems like risky unless you're going to use it on a day-to-day basis and forget about all your other cards
