  • My ,they are so generous. It’s almost as if there’s an ulterior motive here.
The limited number always helps the FOMO.

    • ulterior motive

      What?

I assume this PR helps push the wasteful consumer angle to water problems, not the stuffed pipework and infrastructure angle.

Softens the blow for all the money being thrown at desal.

Take a drive through the wheatbelt, you'll see thousands of km of sprinkler lines that they don't fix

Did WA get screwed like us with a desal too?

In 2012, the NSW Government entered into a 50–year lease with Sydney Desalination Plant Pty Ltd (SDP), a company jointly owned by the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Board (50%) and two funds managed by Hastings Funds Management Limited: Utilities Trust of Australia and The Infrastructure Fund (together 50%).[4] The terms of the A$2.3 billion lease lock Sydney Water into a 50–year water supply agreement with SDP.[5] The operator of the plant is Veolia Water Australia Pty Ltd.

    • They have these programs as part of their annual budget. The main aim (regardless of other ulterior motives) is to ensure efficient use of a limited resource.

  • The check will be completed by an endorsed Waterwise Garden Irrigator who will:

Check for leaks and issues in your irrigation system
Check your irrigation controller settings & set optimal run times for your garden
Provide advice on how to efficiently use your irrigation system

    The check does not include:

    Extensive replacement of parts
    Fixing complicated issues
    Irrigation system redesigns or mapping
    Irrigation controller replacement
    Garden maintenance

    • In other words, check and walk away. Woot. rollseyes

In reality, they will replace broken sprinklers / misters etc and if you're nice, might even leave you with some spares. That clause is in there to stop people taking advantage.

I signed up for one last year, it was a great service, highly recommend.

        • Thanks for sharing your experience

This is pure PR. The biggest user/waster of drinking water in WA is mining. I heard BHP are their biggest customer…

I thought it was my kids taking a shower…

They should bring back the BOGOF soil wetter. That was useful at least.

        Oresome kids!

In 2021 WA households used 0.25 million megalitres. Industry used 3.4 million megalitres.

Maybe the government should be offering free water use checks to industry.

      • Million megalitres is such a weird unit when Gigalitres is a thing. (But I know you're quoting the figures from others)

Be careful though, those figures include self extracted, which is a lot, roughly 1/3 is the Ord river

Water corp supplies about 350Gl each year (from their '21 annual report) bit over 100 is desal, same again from bores and about 50 leaks out on their side, slowly becoming more and more because cy o Connor built that pipe to Kal 120 years ago, then every farmer built a heap off it when they set up after WW2 because if they didn't the wheatbelt wouldn't grow much. it's all steel sitting in the weather and they dont even bloody paint it, give it half a chance to stop getting rustier. I guess it's cheaper to f/suck the ocean up more.

Bhp and the other big boys generally do their own environment destruction, they're raping and pillaging the earth anyway so it's a minor inconvenience for them.

Thanks OP, did it last year, it was great.

  • OP you should also add that if you've signed up for one previously, you're not eligible for another

  • I guess i won’t get it then.

  • I like subsidising boomers with gardens so they can save a few dollars on their water bills
