if I've signed up to ANZ rewards black CC but added my partner as an additional card holder, can they still receive the benefits of this CC?

    • -3

In regards to the bonus? You cant double up a sign up bonus through additonal card holders

    • +2

Best to ask anz. But I would say yes they are still eligible for the bonus… In my limited experience additional card holders in the past are not counted as having previously held the card.

But if u mean u signed up, got the bonus and want to add an additional cardholder, then that additional card holder won't get any bonuses

      • yup sorry I meant if any counts any additional card holders are previously holding the card

        • +3

no, your partner will be treated as NEW customer.

    • Both of you should be eligible. This isn't part of the rewards black or platinum series of cards from what I can see

  • I had an anz black credit card i closed about 18 months ago. Am i eligible for this promotion or is it 'new' customers only? Thanks

    • Also interested to know, couldn't find anything about it on the terms, hence seems like it's ok…

    • normally it is 12 months

  • +2

Their regular offer is $250 cashback (statement credit). Wish we could have them both stack.

    • Think I'd prefer that regular offer

      • +4

If it was $350 cashback, i'd prefer that too. But the giftcard is just more money so not worth losing $100.

        • -1

The only easily consumable GC for me on that list would be UberEats.
But already have UE Premium for months locked to a payment method

So frankly 100 more is too little imo rather take cash this time, even if I were to sell it for small profit not enough margin for hassle holding onto the gc🧐

  • +24

If you're eligible .. .wouldn't this still be a better deal:

    https://www.pointhacks.com.au/credit-cards/anz-rewards-black…

    • $395 annual fee with $150 cash back (essentially $245 for first year)
    • 180k anz reward points worth $800 in gift cards

    NET is $555 benefit

    • agreed, I like that better too! Seems like you can get this, cancel and then go for the Reward Black card.

      • don't you have to wait for 12-18 month?

        • no

          • +1

@nsingh21: hey that's be awesome but could you elaborate a bit? To my best knowledge most of these cc offers would require you being ether a new customer or hasn't hold a card for 18 months.

            • +1

              @louuisc:

Not available where you currently hold, or have closed, an ANZ Rewards credit card within the previous 12 months.

The above isn't a Rewards card. It's a Platinum non-rewards card. Having said that, you might be unlucky to not get approved depending on the person assessing your application. The guy I spoke to seemed to be an offshore outsourced employee.

              • +1

                @nsingh21: "offshore outsourced employee."

they all are, they run by a script 100% of the time, its a royal pain in the ass, may as well be talking to a bot

    • Cheers mate, just cancelled my FF black yesterday. This will do nicely.

      • +3

Are you eligible for this if you just had the FF Black, though? I'm in the same boat

    • +4

In terms of percentage, this is a better return. $350 for $1500 spent is 23.33%. The another ANZ card is $555 for $3000 spent is 18.5% return.

      • +1

        …. better return ….

    • +2

yup - they're different cards for different audiences though.

    • Did you mean $575?

    • +2

Might not be the right forum for this - but outside of having any major bills / expenses in the pipeline, how do people go about meeting the 3k spend typically?

      • +1

how do people go about meeting the 3k spend typically?

Rich people wouldn't have any issues with this

        • +1

Hence why i'm an ozbargain regular!

I guess if you're buying a years worth of car rego, car insurance up front, groceries, and any larger purchases in that three month period it probably adds up. Just seems like a lot at first glance without a big purchase already in mind.

          • @NedStark102: Since u paying rego I assume you have a car which means insurance? That'd easily put you over.

      • +3

I hear ppl booking free cancellation accoms for after the receiving date.

Would like to know any other ways too.

        • pre-orders maybe?

      • +8

You mean you spend less than $1K a month on grocery, bills, and other random expenses?

      • +2

Easiest is to purchase Woolies/Coles/Amazon/your_favourite_merchant gift cards for large amounts, which you can then use later for the actual shopping.

        • I'd hate to be sitting with $1.5k of gift cards

      • Using Zip Pay you can stretch it out to 4 months instead of 3. I think stocking up on fuel GCs or similar is worth it, prepaying bills etc.

How much do you normally spend a month?

      • coles vanilla gc

        • does it work like coles mastercard gc?

          • +1

@capslock janitor: yes, except you cannot set pin, and it requires signature verification everywhere. You'll run into occasional store staff that will refuse to accept a gift card.

      • +2

        Rego, pay rates, bills,
Almost 1k is rego then $2.4k rates per year and thats more than 3k

      • Buy 4% discounted woolies cards through NRMA.

    • +3

Not available where you currently hold, or have closed,
an ANZ Rewards credit card within the previous 12 months.

      • oops. i misread your comment. you meant for the Black, not the card for this deal, right?

        • That "12 months" rule was written on the PointHacks deal for the 'Black Card'.

However, I did not find it on the PointHacks page for the Platinum card.

Just because it's not on the PointHacks page does not mean anything,
because you should read the Terms & Conditions on the ANZ site too
(which I have not), before signing up for any card offers.

From my experience, card offers are usually for people
that have not had a card with the bank for more than 12-months.

    • Would it work if I apply for ANZ Platinum and cancel it after getting the GC benefit. And then apply for ANZ Rewards Black card for the 180k points.
Are Platinum and Rewards Black related category cards in anyway since the conditions says - Not available where you currently hold, or have closed, an ANZ Rewards credit card within the previous 12 months.

      • You might want to double check, and get something in writing in case they deny the bonus.

  • +4

Not a bad deal, but I would expect a website that is built around point hacks to establish an exclusive deal with a card that actually earns points.

    • +1

I thought the same but pointhacks is only doing this for the commission so what do they care? I wonder how much ANZ pays pointhacks for each successful application.

      • +1

True. There are better options available at the moment, with no need to give commission to point hacks. We can reserve that for when they offer better exclusive deals. E.g., From NAB - whether you take the gift card option ~$600 - $95 yearly fee or choose to take the 60,000 velocity points (depending on how you use them, value could exceed $1000). https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/784275

    • +1

No one earns points on cards these days though, it's all about that bonus credit.

      • +1

Compulsive CC churners and SIM sluts are the winners.

    • Why would a bank want to offer a deal for a card that actually earns points to a website that is built around point hacks?

  • +12

I had a hell of a time trying to get the gift card from a previous ANZ deal in 2021 (was "spend $1500 within 3 months for $500 GC" that time!)
    Would personally avoid.

    • +1

Did they deny that you were supposed to get one, or did they say they would send it but never did? How did you manage to solve it?

      • +1

They started on the whole "we will send it in 6-8 weeks" and never did, and eventually settled on denying that I was ever supposed to get it. I gave up eventually and closed it without reward.

        • That sounds very annoying - kinda scummy for them to deny the bonuses you earned

        • but this is digital, what excuse can they pull this time?

        • Too late now but next time go to Banking ombudsmen. Would be sorted very quickly.

Always take screenshots of the application process, bonus offers and terms when applying to make any issues easier to support later .

        • tell us you reported them to AFCA ? @coxymla

        • I had the same issue when there were offering bonus virgin points and a virgin flight credit, man did I hound them down until I got it but

    • After my recent (poor) experience with ANZ cards,
I am also avoiding any offers with them…

      ( … plus I have/had a card with them in last 12 months ^_^ )

  • +5

    $6k min credit limit

  • Anz are the best for the free travel insurance. You only need to spend $250 for any travel expenses. This means you’ll be covered even if booking with points.

    • +10

Commbank is. No need to pay for anything.

      • Wow, that’s great. I’ll look into that. Cheers!

        • +3

With credit card complimentary travel insurance be sure and read the fine print. My wife had a ski fall and did her knee, claimed, denied, there was a PREMIUM to be paid for ski cover with the CBA 'free' insurance.' In the fine print, all 45 pages of it!

          • +1

@cornucopia: They told me ski cover was covered if it is at a resort. That’s what I called to ask EasyCover two weeks ago as well. On page 42 of the travel insurance handbook it says if it’s off-piste snow skiing then it’s not covered and snow extras cover is needed. If at a prepared ski run then you’re ok.

      • Yes thanks for confirming this, I had read 3 times the PDS this morning

        • So it is correct?

          • @nightelves: Yes, I could not find any mention of it saying you have to pay a certain amount with the said card.

    • +16

      Said no Ozbargainer ever.

We're not in America where it's the be all and end all.
If anything my credit score has improved everytime i take out and close a credit card (demonstrated ability to pay back debt).

    • +5

I got a home loan last year, they only cared about limits on those cards. They even mentioned when looking at my credit history that I go through a lot of credit cards (with a laugh, they knew why) - they don't care so long as there's not a long history of missed payments.

      • I'm not sure that's always true. I've been declined on credit cards with AAA credit rating, a verifiable $150K plus pa clear and nil (and I mean NIL, I don't like to pay interest!!)) missed repayments ever! Sometimes the card application processing, usually by a clerk in India or the Philippines on peanuts, is totally random!

    • isn't it just a soft check which gets removed in xxx month? I

    • +2

Sorry but this opinion is about 5 years out of date.

  • +2

I don't see anything regarding if you have held a card previously, within the last 12 months.

    • will not qualify. This particular card is once per lifetime.

      • I think he means an ANZ CC in general, not this particular card

  • +1

I have a grandfathered ANZ Rewards VISA Paycard (attached to a BSB/account number). Has a $10/year fee for reward points.
ANZ has decided to cancel the product to "streamline their offerings', even though they stopped offering this card for 20 years now. Has an interest rate of 18% and 55 days interest free. Credit limit still at $400 when it was taken out about 1994.

I'm being forced to choose another product, and honestly, options compared to this are woeful. Up goes my cost of living. Thanks ANZ !

    • There are plenty of no fee cards around and with rewards points value down the 'loo (see the media on this last few days) you may be better off with one of those.

  • +1

If i sign up, if approved with bonus, can I close account 11 months later?

    • +7

No you must keeeeeep it til you die and then hand it down to your grandchildren

    • Yes, but why would you? Close it as soon as you get the bonus and move on to another card.

  • +3

Doesn't seem to be in the T's & C's but does this require a 12 month cooling off period for the rewards credit cards?

    • i am wondering the same

      • I can't see anything in the terms indicating a waiting period. I just closed a Black card, think I'll jump straight onto this

  • +2

According to this website you need to wait 12 months to get the bonus if you had this card. No waiting period if you had a different product
    https://www.pointsbrotherhood.com/how-often-can-you-get-cred…

    • This doesn't seem to fall into the conflicting ANZ QFF or ANZ Rewards programs though so it may be an exception.

  • From a quick look around this seems like the best value vs annual fee going around atm, would others agree?

    • +1

No, the NAB one is better for even less spend. Net profit around ~$500 or more if you manage to avoid annual fee. There's more gift card options and you can opt for Velocity points
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/784275

Though this card is ok if you already got the NAB one

      • Thanks Wangasm, didn't see this one.

I imagine its in the comments but if you have any tips for avoid the annual fee please let me know

  • Hi guys
Does anyone know if I'll be eligible for bonus points with this card as I currently have the ANZ rewards platinum? There's nothing mentioned on the t&c since this is different line of product compared to rewards card.

    • +1

I had a quick look too. It seems like the 3 cards (Rewards, FF, and this one) are in separate streams so shouldn't interfere with each other with regards to bonus eligibility or cooldowns. If someone has knowledge to the contrary I'd be keen to know.

      • +4

I Just called up and confirm that will be eligible for for the bonus g/c as this is separate product to ANZ rewards and FF.

  • can you apply for this card if you're on a bridging visa??

    • It says if you have 9 months or more left on your working visa then you're eligible.
