    • Yes but the Amazon product is only a 2 year Warranty
The OW product is a 3 year Warranty.
      Different product?
Under OW price guarantee conditions the products must be the same.

I tried OW Brisbane CBD but none in stock.
      Might try the Gabba.

      • I didn't think they went that far. The question they were asking was more whether or not the Warranty for the US is the same as AUS (which it is, just that the period is different). How long OW choice to cover in AUS is their business so they are kind of disadvantaging themselves in the Warranty area compared to US.

        • +1

The Warranty has nothing to do with OW, it's the WD warranty. The products are identical but different. The Australian product has 3 year warranty clearly printed on the box. The US product has 2 year warranty printed on the box. According to OW LPG:
"What items are excluded from the LPG?
Non identical products and services (inclusive of non identical warranties)"

The products seem to be identical apart from the Warranty.

      • milton has some, my receipt has already been posted on a thread.

    • Victorian Receipt upload please?

  • I'm amazed that any OW's are price matching. You'd think they would have a chain wide policy to cover this- they can't price match the whole world and make a profit.

    • I guess that is why they have it overpriced from the beginning, to be able to cover the times they have to price match sales like this.

    • I mean, to be fair, the staff at amazon or wherever this one comes from are probably on $9 an hour.

Plus they would have got it cheaper from WD than OW do.

      • In India they're on less than $9 p/hour yet tech products are not cheaper there compared to the US.

  • +2

Alright, I've printed off three receipts, the Amazon shopping cart and the LPG page off the OW site, wish me luck!

  • -3

They don't price match, report the lying bastards. Everything here is obviously overpriced, the key is not to get ripped off. Their guarantee makes no mention of where the item comes from as long as its identical and in stock. And the US minimum wage is 7.25.

    • The thing with the US is, yes, the low skilled jobs are paid less but the high skilled jobs are generally paid more. They also pay less income tax. You can also save hundreds of thousands of dollars when buying a comparable house and tens of thousands when buying the same model of car.

  • Anyone had any luck using receipts in Melbourne? Had a quick browse through the comments but couldn't see. Thinking of going after uni today.

  • I have checked a few shops in Melb East - they have removed the product off the shelves :/

  • +1

Got two from Trinity Gardens SA OW. They did question the Australian store bit but I referred them to their own website price policy which got me past the line. Just be polite and confident.

  • +1

So from this post i am now pretty confident to always "Give it a go" regarding price matching Amazon.

  • +6

I was accused of using a 'fraudulent' (in their own words) receipt and then was threatened by having the police called in!!
This was at their Collingwood store. I called their bluff but no price match in the end.

    • +12

lol what are the police going to do?

"Sir - put down that receipt?"

      • +1

haha my thoughts exactly "Sir, put down the receipt and step away from the piece of paper!"

    • WTF??? That is just plain wrong lol.

edit: the threatened bit to call in the police…

    • +6

Write down store name and also person who served you. Take a screenshot of the current policy on their website and send email to ACCC (or whoever it is that deals with this). False advertisement is one thing but being called a liar and threatened with Police is another.

      • Well, there will be another complain for Hornsby store, as they don't want to price match. False advertising….

      • +3

Complaining to ACCC will go nowhere.
        It's not false advertisement.
Read the OW price guarantee conditions.
The OW product has a 3 year warranty
Amazon product has a 2 year warranty
        3>2
        ????
        So price is different.

      • +1

Write down store name and the staff who served you.. atleast we can name and shame them here

        • +2

          Steven @ Collingwood, Vic store.
I was actually served by another lady first, I basically asked if i could get a price match on the hdd and handed her the print out (from Milton in an earlier post) she glanced at it and immediately said "would you like me to call the police?" and i'm standing there with a WTF look on my face, and she goes "this is a fraudulent receipt, I can call the police" then she spoke to Steven and he threatened the same thing.
…maybe they've been the victim of papercut attacks from would be thieves, who knows? :p

        • Sounds like the dumbarses thought you were trying to pass the print off of a receipt as an actual receipt…

    • +2

yeah they told me there has been cases of fraud so they refused my receipt on that basis..
did get called fraudulent thou or get threatened.. that is just really bad to make those claims without any proof that it was.. like ppl don't go round calling other ppl murders or rapist because they look shifty…
nothing is worst than being called a liar when you did the right things…

    • This is ridiculous!
So is Amazon fraudulent? If I would be you I would not leave it as is, definitely complain somewhere, this is a democratic country and such behaviour should be unacceptable!

    • Hahaha, when i brought in receipts from the DSE pricematch from last time, the guy laughed at me saying that it must be one of those websites with fake photoshopped receipts.

    • this is ridiculous! these smug know-it-all OW employees of Collingwood. They obviously never heard of ozbargain or else they'll be too busy price-matching themselves.

For the record, this is OW's policy on price-matching:

What items are excluded from the LPG?

      • Non identical products and services (inclusive of non identical warranties)
      • Package deals i.e. printer and computer bundles
      • Cash back offers
      • Resellers
      • Customer special orders
      • Contract Pricing
      • +1
        • Non identical products and services (inclusive of non identical warranties)

There. That's what gets you. US one: 2 years. AU one: 3 years.

  • Brisbane, all stuffs are removed from the shelf. Shit!

    • CBD store?

      • Yes, I heard the discussion, some parts, between a manager and a sale man. I believe they are talking about the strategies. When I was there, nothing on the shelf. I asked the manager, his smile means something. He was bad, saying that he can help me to check other stores.

  • +1

I just got told that amazon is an 'auction site, it may say buy it now but it's actually an auction site' i called bs but they still wouldn't budge!

  • Refused after waiting 15 minutes for the guy at Tuggeranong ACT, i was told they had an email from their GM saying they should refuse all price matches on this item. Oh well, may as well buy from Amazon.

  • +1

So what was the verdict on ordering from Amazon? Will it have international warranty? Or none at all? :S

  • +4

Just buy it from Amazon people. You can't need a hdd that urgently, and you'll save the difference in price from OW price match 5% by not driving all over town burning up petrol

  • Cann't deal with OW at Bondi Junction, they were very kind, they accepted to match the price but they have none in stock. I checked on the website that still showed the product was available, in stock but they told me they had no more stock. And i went to another OW at Sydney CBD, but the result was the same. No expect to match the price in Sydney :( Anyway, still happy with the price from Amazon.

  • +2

Lol yup, just ordered from Amazon. I can't be bothered going to OW to either only be confronted with empty shelves or told "sorry.." or even be threatened to have the police called in… lols.

    • +2

that's true… this is the reason why sometimes i dont really want to help australian stores… we did try asking the request nicely, but sometimes the response is pretty rude… better paid few dollars expensive rather than getting the impolite response

  • I appears that WD doesn't offer international warranty according to this statement in their T&C. This means sending it to US to get warranty!

"No warranty service is provided unless the Product is returned to an authorized return center in the region (…..) where the Product was first shipped by WD, which may have regional specific warranty implications…"
    http://support.wdc.com/warranty/policy.asp

    • Just chat online with Amazon, they send you a return paid satchel. Easy. Well that's what I've read, cos I've never had to return any of the purchases I've made thus far.

  • Went to Elizabeth St store Mel CBD, no P.M there either.

  • ..

  • It's the return for warranty that kills it for OW in Bris, rang around for the info and they all say the same. And I guess all you guys have given them time to check out their own terms, so no price match, pity.

Might order from Amazon but that's a lot of travel and I have box's here that didn't make it in their original shape.

Can anyone link me to their policies, can't find them on site. Thanks. M

  • I ordered from Amazon for under $160 delivered. Should go well with the WD SMP.

  • i tried price matching in ow today . Sales persons first response was " we only price match with Australian Retailer with ABN" then after 10mins discussion with manager they told me that the model was different. seems legit even tough its the same product.
    Amazon model No. WDBY8L0020BBK-NESN
Office Works Model No. was WDBY8L0020BBK-KESN or PESN

  • +1

Maybe for better or worse, OW will amend their T&Cs properly. They should've been more clear in the first place. Price matching overseas online stores is nuts to begin with, and price matching stores with .com.au but don't dont't charge GST would also require a change of business model.

  • +3

Just got back after pricematching with officeworks in East Perth. Got it for ~145.

    • Someone didn't get the memo.

    • can you please post the receipt? will try my luck in Perth

    • Nice going. I went to East Perth at about 4:30 and got rejected. I'll just order it from Amazon

      • Subiaco had one if you want to try there

  • yeah no luck with doncaster OW
no threatening of police involvement (lol)

pulled me up on the warranty issue…he's had a few people try already and had a standing order not to honour the price match from corporate.

    I might try nunawading tomorrow

anyone had any actual luck in VIC yet? seems like VIC is always on top of these things…sucks because I really want one now!!!

  • No luck at East Kew (Vic)

  • that guy is a cockh*#d !. when dse had it for $149.99,
OW Marion store in SA said its not on their website so no go. even showed the OP photo of the receipt…!.
got 1 for $150.76 @ Noarlunga OW in SA. they had 1 in stock, but couldn't find it…!. but they took an order for 1 from another store. just needed to pay first. will upload receipt if needed.

    • OW Marion store in SA said its not on their website so no go.

It was removed off the DSE website after an hour, so OW had the right to refuse that price under their policy…

  • Will try my luck tomorrow at OW Sydney, need to buy some other gear too so might use that as leverage.

    • I was thinking start to ask ow staff to price match on amazon something that is close to their shelf price. If they agree, then ask them to price match wd from amazon. It is hard not to suspect they are selective in price matching!

    • No luck here, response was what's been said - warranty does not match, so no price match.
      Oh well off to Amazon.
Also WD 2Tb taken off the shelves.

      • Said FU to OW and bought 2 on Amazon…

  • It's… slighly cheaper now. USD150.

  • Thanks discombobul. I just spoke to an Amazon consultant over live chat and he changed the price of my order to $149.99.

    • They rejected my enquiry, saying prices change so that was the best they could do..

  • If they think the receipt scans are fake, can't they look up in their system the receipt number at the bottom??

  • Beats me why OW doesn't have a centralised process for issues like this: one decision- maker: one decision for the whole chain. They are all over the shop like headless chooks.

  • i tried price matching in OW Sydney today. Sales persons response was "THE RECEIPT SHOULD HAVE TODAY'S DATE TO PRICEMATCH (18/9)". The OW receipt from Melbourne on the forum is from yesterday (17/9). If you bought the HD today can you please upload the OW receipt. Thanks.

    • you should have just used the receipt as proof that stores are price matching amazon.com so they should too.
it worked for me when they dismissed my receipt because of fraudulent cases (weird they didn't except the price on the receipt but were ok with the seller, lol)

    • They don't pricematch against OW receipts so you can use the ones from yesterday. They pricematch against current offer of Amazon.com which is currently live. You should ask the manager if they are willing to pricematch if you can get them today's OW receipt and the answer will be "No".

Also, the Sydney CBD stores are notorious for not pricematching, especially the Clarence St. one. They flatout reject and come up with all excuses not to pricematch.

  • +1

Seriously guys, unless you need this drive TODAY, save yourself some heartache and wasted time and just order it from Amazon, the difference in price will be made up by the petrol or shoe leather you will waste walking/driving around town trying to find an OW which will price match.

    • Sometimes it worth the trouble. If successful price match. Can enjoy warranty, tax deductable for work related expense.

      • Are you unable to claim tax for an overseas purchase (sorry I'm not aware)

        • GST. income tax is a separate issue

        • You can't claim back the GST (because you didn't pay it), this is only important to registered businesses, not individuals.

You can still claim back the purchase price on your income tax if it is a legitimately claimable expense for your job/business.

        • Thanks for the clarification

  • "not treating customer as fraud"
    "keep you own promise"
I think that might be some of the reasons why Amazon is the No.2 biggest retailer in the world…

I had been told "the receipt must be photoshopped" in a Target when I tried to pricematch the ozbargain Target receipt of Kinect last year. But they were still good in a way, because not police is called…
Anyway, they just want to over-prize their goods and rip off OZ ppl.

Some might use the old excuse "look at the minimum wage…"
    yes and no!!!
Amazon use robots to do a large amount of the warehousing and dispatching work!
google it if you don't believe.
Wake up! people, it's already 21st century!

please spread the words that some shops don't keep their promise and humiliate ppl, like @djyoshii got…

  • Hi all

Amazon have lowered the price by another $3 (its $149.99 now) and I successfully got them to do a refund of $6 because the items had not been shipped yet on the 2 drives I bought yesterday so maybe those that are having no joy with OW may want to reconsider the nice people at Amazon.

(I'm not a rep for them)

    • Mine hasnt been shipped yet either? How did you obtain the refund?

      • Is there a shipping charge from Amazon for delivery to Australia? or does the price ($149.99) is inclusive of this?

      • +1

live chat after clicking the contact us button

    • Looks like Amazon is the best bet, OW king street Melbourne refused to price match printed receipt above.

  • Does anybody know what drive is in the box?

    • +2

I assume it would be a hard one..

      • +1

        2.5" WD one.

  • +1

Everyone just buy from Amazon. That way Officeworks gets less revenue/sales. I support local businesses but a $100 difference(66% premium price) and a pathetic attitude toward the customer is too much to ignore. Give Amazon the money!

    • That way Officeworks gets less revenue/sales.

loses less money you mean… I'm sure it's below their cost…

and a pathetic attitude toward the customer

at my local store, they are all quite friendly

      • what about the people who were called fraudsters and threatened with a call to the cops?

  • -2

    .

  • +1

Expecting to get flamed, but there just seemed something really shameless about walking into an Officeworks store and demanding them to match an overseas competitor like Amazon.
    We're all made differently though.

    • i felt guilty when i asked for the DSE price match… it was almost half their price…
