      • I don't think women empowerment is the solution, we have radical feminists hating on good men. It's basically turning men and women against each other.

Also how are contraceptives and family planning meant to solve anything?

        • Also how are contraceptives and family planning meant to solve anything?

There is a plethora of data that confirms once women are granted greater autonomy, control of their bodies and greater educational outcomes, they then hold off on having children and instead focus on their careers. This means having less children and having them later in their lives. This has multiple implications both positive and negative, though the positives vastly outweigh the negatives.

    clink clink clink
that's the sound of child slave labor mining cobolt in the Congo for your EV car batteries, thanks elon

    • +6

Except Tesla's barely use cobalt and they use none from the Congo…

Except many will type a comment with their smartphone, which does…

    • You only care because fossil fuel companies told you to. These child workers are just culture war fodder huh?

    • Except all of the cobalt used in Tesla's cars is through Canada, and that's ignoring the fact their new battery technology doesn't use cobalt and that over 50% of their cars don't use it. Love all the greenies who pretend to care about the environment hating on the one person actually caring about the environment as they type from their laptops and phones that actually contain cobalt mined in the Congo with children.

    • +1

Says the person who owns a phone that uses the same materials mined by children.

  • +24

    Not a deal. Q garbage.

  • +37

if a movie is the first time you're learning about child trafficking then you might have room temperature IQ

    • -4

def not first time for me but I’ve seen people post about this movie and how good it is so I had to go see it myself and I came across an ad on insta promoting the movie by giving away free tickets so I went yesterday to go watch it.

      • +32

Many of the "people" who are astroturfing this gung-ho garbage aren't.

        Child trafficking occurs.

It isn't being done by wealthy elites who want the blood after they have been abused by Syrian space-lizards.

Seeing the film is the first step in spreading awareness about child trafficking

No, it's not. It's the first step in confabulating tales around an ancient problem in order to raise money for some of the most egregious carpet-baggers and grifters.

  • +33

OP’s account isn’t even 2 hours old. Post on main you coward.

So many cranks on OzBargain. Falling for grifters and crackpots.

    • -8

ok. thank you for your comment

  • +16

Not a deal if it's based on paying it forward. Not sure why we're all supposed to prop up the film makers?

Other than an urgency to spread the news by bying free tix for others and lining qanon's pockets? What action does the film actually spur to help for the trafficked children?

If the film is such a good cause, why not release it on free to air tv?

And why the urgency? The film will end up on free to air or streaming at some point.

The only motivator i can see is to line film maker pockets.

    • +1

No urgency, free on a big screen so not complaining

      • +5

Amazing how worked up some members are getting on here trying to cancel it already lol

    • +9

Hey mate, I think I found your laptop…

  • +5

Free tickets are free tickets, cheers

  • +7

Followed the trail on angel.com/blog/sound-of-freedom to learn how to help and it turns out that parents with drug issues selling their kids and LGBTQ kids being kicked out of home are significantly over represented in the stats so will fighting for evidence based drug policy and LGBTQ community acceptance.

  • +3

Got drunk and watched this with friends, really funny movie!

  • +1

My misso already bought us tickets to see this today, I had absolutely no idea about any of this drama until now.

    https://www.theguardian.com/film/2023/aug/29/sound-of-freedo…
it seems harmless enough, yeah the main actor seems like a bit of a douche. I hope it doesn't come across as US propaganda like American sniper or Rambo 3

    please help me :')

    • +1

You will be fine. It's a decent movie loosely based on a real story (like a many many movies) that the extreme leftist media tried to cancel and it backfired on them by actually making it more popular. Don't believe this Qanon crap that the media tried to spin.

      • +1

Any proof you can send me of the extreme leftists trying to cancel it? It the final credits you see the real life character, Tim, wearing a hat with che Guevara on it

        • +1

Plenty out there. Just use your brain and common sence when sifting through the crap when searching on google.

          • +1

@Sammyboy: Can you send me one then? I'm trying to see where you're coming from but I'm not getting there. What may seem to be common sense to one person can be different to another.

      • Actually what’s made it popular is the movies marketing spin of “pay it forward” - which entices people to support the fight against child-trafficking by buying a ticket that likely won’t be used, greatly increasing ticket sales. It’s a con, since supporting the movie does absolutely nothing towards stopping child trafficking.

    • +6

Nah, the movie is not only bad but Ballard is a very bad person.

      https://redcircle.com/shows/00c09c2d-fedd-4eee-a9ec-262c89ba…

      • +1

The entirety of the source those people used to rubbish Ballard is the opinion of a Rolling Stone writer, who promptly got arrested by the FBI for obtaining, producing and distributing child porn and child rape material, right after publishing hit-pieces about Ballard and the movie.

        https://www.eviemagazine.com/post/award-winning-journalist-c…

        • -1

Yeah that's not true though mate. Not even close to true. The majority of reporting comes from Marchman and Merlan at Vice.

Why are you standing up for a fraud?

          • -2

@krunchymoses: Why are you trying to grandstand for a pedophile ?

            • -1

@infinite: Mate the article you shared isn't even the right journalist. Maybe political discourse isn't your thing.

        • Hold on, that's not even the same journalist? You're cooked!

      • +1

"For example, a woman in Peru commented how excited she was that The Sound of Freedom was being screened in the Blue Mountains of NSW."
That was probably my mates sister who was once kidnapped and is from the blue mountains. She now lives in Peru and we both grew up in springwood.
Does it explain where that was commented?

    • +1

It was a really good movie, you'll have a good time.

  • -7

lol, libs and their triggered reports..
    Somethings never change.

    • +3

      I agree f the coalition

  • +15

Likely by intention, rather than coincidence, this film has become a lightening rod for far-right conspirators. Qanon is not a deal however it is shipped.

  • -1

I mancini e qui hanno paura che la narrativa stia cambiando…

  • +12

Not a deal. Costs you your intelligence.

    • +6

You make the assumption those in support are intelligent.

      https://twitter.com/tassiekaz/status/1651520451418419200

This is the type of shit they believe.

      • +3

Ha, we cant even build a decent cross city tunnel on plan/budget. No chance we'd be able to make one to house a million people :)

  • +4

Movie looks god-awful, but that's beside the point. This idea of movies asking for people to buy a second ticket so someone else can go for free is kinda genius as a money making technique - it doesn't really matter if the second person actually goes, you've got the money. It will only really work for movies that appeal to people on extreme ends of the political spectrum (Dinesh Desouza and Michael Moore could both use this quite effectively), but it's still kinda genius.

  • +8

Giving it a plus to balance out the nutters who see politics in everything - and especially hate it if it's not their side.

    • +9

But this is full of politics.

      • +1

        How?

      • +1

What part of the movie did you find was about politics ?

  • +5

There's no child trafficking, its just a conspiracy, move along, nothing to see here.

    • -1

      Ballard is a child trafficker.

    • +1

No child trafficking? Overseas, none? How do you know that?

    • +2

Yes. We're so lucky to have such benevolent media organisations who tell us what our opinions should be

    • +2

I know you're joking, but calling something a "conspiracy" doesn't delegitimise it. "Conspiracy" is a real crime that people are charged with around the world on a daily basis. Conspiracy to commit murder. Conspiracy to commit a crime. It's not the word to label something as crazy, fringe or kooky.

      • Yep. Conspiracy theories are very different to conspiracies.

  • People have to bring external issues into it.

Tough guy investigates and beats like child traffickers…. Where did I see this before? Wait, that's the plot of the last Rambo movie!

  • +6

Not a deal when it costs you your brain and critical analysis skills 👎

    • +3

what have you critically analysed about it after watching?

  • +3

Heard a lot about this expose of organised child trafficking bought into the social conscious via a mainstream film. Seeing certain types trying to discredit it simply reinforces and validates what is actually going on out there.

    Will check out.

  • +4

Any movie that raises awareness about human trafficking is a plus.

The woke crowd live in a world where only their opinions matter and the rest is cancelled by all sorts of mud slinging. If they could, they would legislate people's opinions. 1984 is not far off… Judging from the votes, their attempt to cancel this deal post has failed dismally.

Thanks OP for posting this 😁

    • +7

Any movie that raises awareness about human trafficking is a plus

Sounds like woke virtue signalling to me if it's just watching a movie, no more issue or problem changing than hashtagging a selfie. Unless I've missed the point/definition of woke virtue signalling.

      • +5

it's a step worse because atleast virtue signalling is free but these clowns are paying money to virtue signal and the filmmakers are profiteering off such a serious subject, it's a lose lose situation all around

        • Disney are the filmmakers that made the movie, then sold it to another company to distribute.

          • -1

            @infinite: No.

"The film was completed in 2018 and a distribution deal was made with the Latin American subsidiary of 20th Century Fox. When the studio was purchased by the Walt Disney Company, it shelved the film. Subsequently, the filmmakers bought the distribution rights back from the studio."

            • @Gehirn: Disney purchased an owning stake in Fox at the start of 2017 and immediately took control of the company and it's production studios.

Final payouts to the staff and executives they made over a series of redundancies in the following 9 months were finalised on December 14, 2017.

              https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acquisition_of_21st_Century_Fo…

              • -1

                @infinite:

Disney purchased an owning stake in Fox at the start of 2017 and immediately took control of the company and it's production studios.

No they didnt. By your link negotiations didnt even start until the end of 2017. There was multiple bidding wars in 2018, approved late 2018, and acquired the stock in 2019.

Disney are not the filmmakers. 21st Century Fox weren't even the filmmakers they just had distribution rights.

                • -2

@Gehirn: LOL, you didn't read the link at all.

"21st Century Fox was officially acquired by The Walt Disney Company and announced as such to the market on December 14, 2017. Shareholders were advised of plans to begin this process over 18 months earlier".

      • +3

Watching something does raise awareness doesn’t it? Especially if someone wasn’t paying attention to it before ….right?
Woke is a different animal altogether

      • +2

Oh wow, massive assumptions about people watching it - what they will or won't do.
And assuming that more people becoming aware of this issue = less people doing something about it… Sure that makes a lot of sense

  • would be nice to see running counter of "pay it forward" tickets available

also will they be providing barf bags during screening ?

  • +10

    Propaganda is not a bargain

  • +16

I wish the lunatic alt right actually cared about passing any policies to improve children’s lives and keep them safe. This ‘deal’ is the last thing you need to spread awareness for children’s trafficking that OP claims.

  • +8

When will people understand? No one has a problem with the film itself, the reviews seem fine as a movie itself, the problem is Jim Caviezel and his Q anon adrenochrome garbage talking ways. People that believe Q trash like that don't need a platform, they need psychiatric help because they have serious mental health issues.

    • +1

So If I watch the Shawn Ryan Show, and Patrick Bet David episode podcasts, both of whom hosted this Jim Caviezal fellah for hours, I’ll be hearing the qanon stuff? You’re guaranteeing it?

      • No idea who those people are but here is a link to the videos on Twitter of him talking shit

        https://twitter.com/i/status/1383419877881303045

        • So your "evidence" is just a link to a twitter clown spreading a conspiracy theory about Jim Caviezal…………..

          • +1

@infinite: What are you smoking? Did you even watch them? It's Jim speaking to a stadium of people. What's next? It's AI generated?

They guy has lost his mind the moment he said adrenochrome

            • @HoochieMamma: The crackpot twitter user in the link you posted also thinks 5G gives you cancer…….

              • +1

@infinite: No he doesn't. Why do you keep lying?
The twitter user (a long time reporter) reported on others that believe it and falsely link it.

              • +1

                @infinite: Seek professional help.

                • @HoochieMamma: Stop standing up for pedophiles.

                  • @infinite: Please call your local GP and try and get some help, you clearly are unable to discern fiction from reality. Even when presented with video proof. The Q anon has rot your brain. I'm very sorry about your loss.

                    https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/psychiatrists-and-psychologi…

No one is out to get you, not everyone is a pedophile. People are not getting adrenochrome from children.Talk to your family about this as they are probably worried and scared you'll lash out at them.

  • +13

Paying forward is not a bargain

    Astroturfing is not a bargain

  • +9

Wow. I had no idea that so many people had such a problem about raising awareness of child trafficking. What could the reason be for that I wonder?
    I haven't seen it and probably won't, but crikey…the anger over this…

    • +6

Look into Ballard if you want to know why.

    • +2

What could the reason be for that I wonder?

Just write your actual accusation coward, don’t hide behind “I wonder why?”.

    • +4

Mainly because the movie doesn’t raise awareness of anything, any more than countless other action movies that deal with serious world issues. This movie is making profits over its viewer’s gullibility.

  • +10

All the emotion and anger from people who haven’t watched it. …. I’m definitely going to watch this now

  • -5

Quite astonishing to see this deal being downvoted! The film was a surprise box office hit in the USA and sits at "fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes with a 99% Audience score from 10K+ verified ratings. It might not be your cup of tea (if you're a groomer) - but its clearly a great deal to see a film 99% of the audience thinks is great for free.
