The majority of conservatives didn't give a crap, regular conservatives are reactionaries. Sound of Freedom aligned with the tiny amount of QANON extremists, then the progressive media had a slow news day and made it out like all conservatives bought into it, so they conservatives responded with "ok, well, if you want to align child protection with us then we'll claim it".

      It keeps happening…

Fitness is another example. Progressives promoted body acceptance, conservatives made fun of it, progressive media started pretending like fitness is a conservative issue, so the conservatives said "ok, well, if you want to align fitness with us then we'll claim it".

Cash is another example. Progressives promoted cashless payments, conservatives made fun of it, progressive media started pretending like cash is a conservative issue, so the conservatives said "ok, well, if you want to align cash payments with us then we'll claim it".

In reality, child protection, fitness, and cash payments are all things the general public care about, but the progressive media keeps framing these things as conservative, right-wing, fascist, etc because it gets views if only because it's a ridiculous notion, then conservatives just claim it to move the Overton window back in their favour.

      • +6

Nope. It's more that the conservatives often make these media to be more of an affiliation rather than just standing up for common right. The left does it as well. The more our mainsteam society is aware and stay clear of these media with political or religious agenda the less we will see of them.

        • +5

I linked to some pretty specific examples of the progressive media clearly bringing the nonsense into the mainstream. The conservative media didn't one day stand up and declare "fitness is right-wing". It was the progressive media who started pushing extreme body-acceptance and then created the label "fatphobia" when the conservatives reacted with the commonsense notion that obesity is unhealthy.

Once it's blown-up by the progressive media, THEN you get conservative reactionaries running with it. Nonetheless, everyone was "fatphobic" in the 90's. It wasn't the right-wing who moved the Overton window.

It's inverse to the way things were trending for a while, such as with condoms. When modern condoms became ubiquitous, they didn't have an inherent moral value, they were just a tool. But then the religious conservatives sided against them, so the general public saw the progressives as being supportive of sexual health.

          • @besttraveltech: The fact is, you are making it to be progressive vs conservative, when I don't care for either.

            • +3

@CptnObvious: I'm not making it to be that way, it is that way: see the sources I've linked above. I'm just explaining how it became that way, and why it's ridiculous.

I don't care for either, either, nor do I care for this culture war nonsense. I do believe, though, that trying to move the Overton window is equivalent to instigating a culture battle, and it's usually clear who's trying to move the Overton window.

I just finished reading Roger Scruton's A Political Philosophy (prior to this I read Sophie Lewis' Full Surrogacy Now, so I get the full spectrum in) and my review begins with: "I never understood identifying as a conservative or progressive when the vast majority of us want to both conserve the good in our culture and progress where we can."

Why were opposing media outlets so vehemently opposed to this movie but sympathetic towards Cuties? Who knows how these situations begin.

      • +10

Why were opposing media outlets so vehemently opposed to this movie but sympathetic towards Cuties? Who knows how these situations begin.

I have never, ever heard of a mainstream media outlet praising Cuties. My take is that it was universally seen as both weird and perverse in equal measures.

        • +5

Then you obviously weren’t paying any attention to the media. Google ‘New York Times Cuties’ or ‘Washington Post Cuties’ and there’s immediately half a dozen articles from each outlet either a) praising Cuties or b) hand-waving any reaction to it. Here’s one from our national broadcaster:
          https://www.abc.net.au/religion/melinda-tankard-reist-the-et…

        • It’s just a randomly selected movie in the whole conspiracy theory - you know someone is a “believer” when they spout the Cuties reference.

        • +5

Former chief editor of Rolling Stone and movie reviewer James Gordon Meek gushed openly about cuties and claimed anyone rubbishing it was a QAnon conspiracy nut. A week after publishing the exact same claim about people who watched this movie he was arrested as part of an international pedophile ring.

          https://www.eviemagazine.com/post/award-winning-journalist-c…

Rolling Stone have since virtually wiped his name from existence. Along with the other staff members the FBI later arrested for helping him obtain, produce and distribute child porn.

      1. They've finally got a movie in Hollywood by one of their own, and not one of those woke family destroying studios.

      2. Feeds into the good guy narrative that they are fighting trafficking and the secret left in charge of it. The irony when some pushers of the film having committed sex crimes.

      3. The buying someone a ticket campaign makes it feel charitable and righteous.

      4. If someone doesn't like the movie you can accuse them of supporting child trafficking like many commenter below have.

      • Oh - which 'pushers of the film' have committed sex crimes?

        • +6

          Fabian Marta

          • @yessum:

            1. Does someone who crowdfunded a film along with thousands of others really count as a pusher of the film?
            2. When exactly was he convicted of sex crimes?
        • +3

Fabian Marta, a financial patron of “The Sound of Freedom,” was charged with being an accessory to child kidnapping. Probs more too, knowing how far right conspiracy theorists are projecting etc.

          • @Shammy111: That's just a guy who paid to watch the movie…….

          • +2

@Shammy111: Firstly. Mr Marta and his family paid a couple grand through Go Fund Me towards the film - along with thousands of other people.
Hardly someone linked with the movie.
Secondly, Mr Marta has only been charged with accessory to kidnapping. He has not been convicted of anything, and the background to the accessory to kidnapping charge appears to be because he rented an apartment to someone involved in a custody dispute. So where exactly is the 'sex' part of that crime?

    • +16

It's a low budget, straight-to-video movie that had been shelved since 2019. Until the producers came up with a clever marketing ploy to appeal to conservatives by subtly linking it to the QAnon child-trafficking hysteria. Billing it as "the movie they (the deep state/liberals) don't want you to see". I think there was a bit of religious stuff in the movie as well, to appeal to the evangelicals.

They bought out movie theatres and gave away thousands of free tickets to artificially boost the movie's numbers. The guy the movie is based on is dodgy as hell and has been accused of trafficking kids from poor families in Latin America and giving them to Morman families in the US.

    • why are conservatives so wedded to this movie?

Why are liberals so triggered by it?

Do you ever look in the mirror?

      • +3

Absolutely. What happened in orphanages run by religious organisations was appalling. All done whilst corrupting the politicians and police to turn a blind eye. Frankly it is a huge exercise in “look over there” to try to distract people from holding the rightwingers to account. They are very good at distracting the gullible like that. Both sets of child abuse can be dealt with at the same time. Child trafficking has been going on for a very long time, why is this suddenly an issue when the last things the rightwingers have been up to come out of the woodwork?

    • I thought all conservatives knew about the global underground tunnels where children are abused and also have their blood drained so that the rich can drink it and stay eternally young and powerful to keep the world under control

      https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2019/07/why-are-right-w…

      • This just makes me think I clearly never get invited to the cool parties…..

  • +37

    This movie is terrible.

I watched it after seeing glowing reviews on imdb and RT.

But it turns out it's some tentpole movie for American conservatives, so it's propped up with basically fake reviews by the anti-woke crowd.

I wouldn't waste your time unless you like conspiracy theories

    • +5

      SlavOz productions?

    • +12

Movie was 8/10. Pacing was a bit inconsistent, but acting and directing was top level. . Honestly, one of the better movies this year, but that doesnt say much considering the content coming out of hollywood nowadays

      • -1

        8/10?

Movie was incredibly basic. Yellowstone level of acting and writing.

Only good to people with low media literacy.

        • +14

You didn't like it, fine. But to level insults at others who did is borderline sociopathic. You really have to question the intelligence of people who do this.

          • @initiateit: How is that an insult? Having low media literacy isn't an insult, most people have low media literacy.

The movie was basic, the message was basic.

            • +2

              @KenDiaMoi:

most people have low media literacy.

How did you decide that you are an exception?

        • +1

          how is this 8/10?

          agree with everything else tho

Round up those satan-worshiping child-trafficking democrat elites trying to control our politics and media! yeehhaaa!

      • +8

The Capt is taking the piss out of QAnon, Jacob.

      • +15

Look at the Clintons, Pelosi, the Larry David/Bernie Sanders. They are all conspiring with ET to traffick innocent children across the galaxy border and sold off to exotic wet markets run by oriental aliens. Disgusting.

        • +7

I thought it was shapeshifting Jews Lizards?

        • They are using their precious bodily fluids as the transmission ether for 5G networks.

    • +3

Round up those satan-worshiping child-trafficking democrat elites trying to control our politics and media! yeehhaaa!

If all I do is watch this movie and then post about how bad child trafficking is, would that make me a woke virtue signalling lefty?

  • +6

Without googling, what state in Australia do you live in @Bargainer123?

  • Where do you find the code?

I got sent the voucher but no PIN number?

    • Did they send a barcode ?

      • Nah all I got was a code through WhatsApp?

        • I signed up with gmail so they sent a barcode via email that i scan to print my tickets at the counter

          • @Bargainer123: Hmm that’s weird

I just tried signing up with email instead and they sent me another 2 codes through WhatsApp without the Pin again

            • @colt75: How to claim your free ticket with a code:
Arrive at the theater with the printed code, or this email available on your phone.
If you have any further issues, please reach out to the Angel Studios support team at angel.com/help.

Redemption codes may only be used one time. Please do not share them!

  • +17

Thought the marketing campaign was dedicated, so much so, an investor was arrested for child kidnapping

  • +5

I will give this movie a go, but once it’s available on a streaming service. Don’t think I want to go into a theatre and sit next to the nutters that are popping up on my social media feeds, see,I fly having discovered child trafficking for the first time

    • +13

Why did you neg it without first watching?

      • +13

Because people who have proved to be both knowledgeable and have been correct in the past have panned it with reasons, whereas those creating and promoting this mish-mash of half-truths are those I found to be unable to get out of bed in the morning without uttering mistruths.

I haven't tried urine either, however that's not rain this lot are telling me they are offering.

        • +2

What are the mistruths in this movie?

        • +2

Which knowledgable people that have been correct in the past have panned the movie?

Keen to read the articles you’re speaking of.

        • +3

Forbes highlights some of the nonsense both Cazaviel and Ballard believe and propogate… and its deeply troubling heritage, even before QAnon https://www.forbes.com/sites/conormurray/2023/07/15/the-adre…

          • +1

@swalloweda: Not interested in articles since most of them follow a narrative. I was actually after your opinion and what the nonsense is about the film. Which part?

          • +1

@swalloweda: The chief editor and head writer at Rolling Stone that started that false allegation of this movie having any tie to QAnon nonsense, was promptly arrested and charged a week later by the FBI for obtaining, producing and distributing child porn and recordings of child rape. Rolling Stone have wiped any article or story produced or written by him, or the others from Rolling Stone that the FBI grabbed too.

            https://www.eviemagazine.com/post/award-winning-journalist-c…

      • +3

Because insert political or social ideology here says they have to.

It's funny because these people are doing the same thing they whinge about.

  • +1

The Qanon people find their way into everything don't they. I miss when it felt like humanity's collective intelligence was regressing to 12th century peasant level

  • +51

Having someone else buy your ticket isn't a bargain, it's buying into a grift. This film has been proven to be incredibly misleading and they're tricking people into thinking it's 'important' to scam them into fake ticket sales to boost its box office performance.

Besides, if you want to actually learn about child trafficking, why would you watch a scripted film? Watch a documentary, read a book, read news stories with proper sources.

    • +3

Being apart of a human centipede is a deal to some.

  • +24

imagine the dregs of society you'd have to sit with.

    • +3

Can you explain? Why are people getting emotional about this? I haven’t been following this topic.

      • +7

Basically a middle America propaganda movie showing how amazing Merica is in saving the world, in reality lots of shady shit being done by the mormons as well.

        • What part of the movie did you think was propaganda ?

  • +48

No thanks. This is super sketchy.

Not a bargain. It's soliciting support for conspiracy theorists and grifters. Please accept my rare and precious downvote.

      • +38

If you don't like comments about your deal, scroll on. It's optional to read internet comments.

    • -1

This is a movie about how horrible pedophiles are.
The scam of the universe who deserve to be 6 feet under.
If you are one stop hurting children.
If you know someone who is hurting children. Let the authorities know.

      • +9

This is a movie about how not to rescue children. Btw Ballard sells the kids to Mormons in Utah for $20k each. Do your research?

        • +1

I really wonder if people come up with all these other ‘research’ to deflect the horrible fact of what pedophiles do.
All I need to know is that grownup men having sex with children is wrong. Anyone else who doesn’t see this is a red flag.

          • @Mahalo: Yeah so instead of looking at the overwhelming evidence that Ballard has used sex trafficking to make himself a lot of money, fulfil a hero complex and spread mormonism while literally harming children it's a big conspiracy to deflect from 'what paedophiles do'.

            Okay then. Yeah, nevermind then.

            • +1

@krunchymoses: The entire extent of "the evidence" so far is just your unhinged opinion…………

    • +3

      have you watched the film?

      is childtrafficking conspiracy theory now?

      • According to these neggers, it is.

        • -1

Can you quote anyone denying child trafficking?

          • -1

            @Gehirn: Two comments up:

"Not a bargain. It's soliciting support for conspiracy theorists"

            Two comments down:

            "Not a deal. Q garbage"

The movie is about child trafficking and how it occurs. Which is not a conspiracy.

            • +3

@infinite: Two comments of people talking about qanon conspiracy theorists. Two comments that do not deny child trafficking.

              • @Gehirn: Yes, you and the other nutbags here who are claiming that child trafficking is a Qanon conspiracy theory……….

                • +3

@infinite: Nooo. That the actor and others are promoting qanon conspiracy theories like drinking blood of children, etc. And qanon conspiracy theorists are coopting this movie as proof of whatever secret cabals they believe in.

Just like you are twisting these comments to say they don't believe in child trafficking.

If im "claiming that child trafficking is a Qanon conspiracy theory" surely you can quote me on that right?

              • @Gehirn: Yes.

    • +1

Exactly which part does it support those buzzwords you mentioned, so can skip that part of the movie? ….Oh wait you haven’t actually seen it? …ummmmm

    • +1

Idk what's with you people and saying this is Qanon conspiracy material. I really doubt you watched the movie and just got indoctrinated by the media. The child traffickers in this movie aren't these "devil worshippers that drink children blood" they are literally just people making money and using kids for an easy buck.

  • +12

Seeing the film is the first step in spreading awareness about child trafficking.

With $200 mill at the box office I'd assume most watchers are so invested that they go and make real life altering additional steps?

Does any of the films promotional material detail how, apart from giving the film distributors $, the movie leads to subsequent steps? Would seem like that's a more beneficial way to spend your time and $ if reducing child trafficking is a topic you want to support, and should be detailed in their 'instagram ads'. Would be good to add those to the op deal details.

(Man, downvoted for asking how peoole could actually make a difference to the cause behind the film…. its like the film promotion isn't really even about the cause?)

    • +12

How people could make a difference

      • Educate women in the 3rd world to empower themselves and break the poverty trap
      • Provide free/cheap contraceptives and family planning

These 2 things are at the antithesis of the religious conservative worldview.

      • -1

        Which religion?

The Wokes, Islam, Jews, Hindu's, Greek Orthodox, Scientology ………….
