retailmenot

I have now expired this deal as they increased the price and the tablet is now cheaper from BuyInCoins

See THIS POST for delivery estimate for those that ordered.

Pre-order the latest seven inch tablet from Ainol.

CPU: Amlogic 8726-M6, 1.5GHz, Cortex-A9 dual core
GPU: Mali-400
OS: Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean)
RAM: 1GB (DDR 3), 8GB Nand Flash
7 Inch Capacitive MVA 5 point Multi-Touch Screen, 1024 x 600px 170° visible angle

The rest of the specs are on the website link for the deal.

This tablet is a new model purported to replace the Elf II. Oddly it says it a pre-order but it also says they have stock. I don't know which is correct.

Some other Ainol tablets are also decently priced:

Ainol Crystal $117.28USD PRICE INCREASED SINCE DEAL POSTED
Ainol Aurora II White $117.75USD also Black
Ainol Fire $158.99USD - on promotion already, code does not work
Ainol Elf II $101.93USD

Please note that ALL of the above tablets are now cheaper in THIS DEAL

I'm getting a feeling you've been hunting for a good price on Ainol tablets today :P

    • Yeah scrounging around a bit. Finding so much gnarly stuff I don't know which one to get myself now, doing my friggin head in. I've already got an Elf II that I'll be handing off to the oldies, gotta replace it with something. The Fire from the other deal I posted is looking good, just dropped by $5 after I posted.

      • are you experiencing wifi problems like some people?

        • I didn't think I was but after trying a mates Aurora II, I did think that the wireless wasn't working as well as it should so I opened it up and the connections to the board were okay but a wire had come adrift from the antenna. Reattached and it's now 40-50% better.

Some people were having problems with the tablets in the same room as their router, before making the change I could at least roam the entire house and maintain connection which is why I didn't think it was bad but after the fix I get either full signal or 3/4 now where it would drop to 1/4 at times.

Using the code retailmenot reduces the price to $100.05 USD.

    • +1

      Nice!

    • Nice, was wondering if there was a code, hadn't yet gone digging. Thanks!

  • A newer model than Fire?

    • It is but the Fire is higher spec and more featured. This is a lower spec but ships with Jelly Bean. Hard to keep up with developments…

      • OK, but only 1024x600.

I don't need better CPU but need higher resolution.

        • The Fire is worth a look then as you already know, it's cheaper over at BuyInCoins by around $10.

        • none of these generics have anything above the 1280x800 screens yet though right?

hopefully they can get the fire hd 1900x1200 screens in a few months.

        • Retina Displays! One can dream can't they….one day though, one day….

LOLz at the 'borrowed' Nexus 7 background. Deal looks good! :)

    • +14

That's the default Android 4.1.1 background.

      • Arhhh… less borrowed then I imagined. Thanks! ;)

What's the difference between Aurora II ($109.99) & Crystal ($100.05)?? Getting it for my dad's birthday present

Aurora II with 16GB & Crystal with 8GB?

    any other difference??

    • The Crystal has a FAR more stable wifi connection than the aurora II - Also better viewing angles.

Much recommended for your dad - since you won't have to do some soldering to fix the wifi up.

Also no risk of getting a dead pixel batch.

      • $10 with extra 8 GB though… I think Aurora II has better viewing angles because of IPS screen.

so the only difference is FAR more stable wifi connection, RIGHT??

I think I will go for Aurora II …

        • -1

          snip

      • Soldering?
But there is a fix/update for the wifi.
        Or is there another fault??

      • But the Aurora has the IPS screen, so it should have the better viewing angles…?
I know that the Aurora IPS screen has had some reported issues though, cause it's a cheap model.

        • Just found out the Crystal has an IPS screen, it didn't say anywhere on the listing page.

        • Specs say MVA which is somewhere between TN and IPS according to this article

      • I read somewhere the Crystal has gorilla glass? Can someone pls confirm?

        • sounds too good to be true…

  • +2

Any idea if this has expandable storage?

    • +7

      Don't read too hard:

Extend Card - Support TF card up to 32GB extended

      • +1

        Cheers mate. My bad =)

  • I'm looking for a tablet (7" or larger) with full phone function. Could you guys suggest me a good one. Thanks in advance.

  • When exactly does shipping begin?

  • +1

Is it possible to get more RAM in the Ainol?

    • I think 1GB RAM is pretty enough

      • +23

        RAM…. in the Ainol…… Sheesh.

    • +2

This has to be one of the funniest things I have read on Ozbargain…ever.

  • +1

No one's made an Ainol joke yet?

    • +3

      Thankfully….

    • +15

      Because that's not funny anymore.

    • really?, I might be mistaken but I thought I counted 2

    • +1

Probably because ainol has become more mainstream nowadays. It is everywhere on the internet.

    • Ainol retentive !

      • Ainol tablet = suppository?

  • What's the difference between the Crystal and the Elf 2?

From what I can see, the only difference is the Jelly Bean OS.

Very happy with my Elf2. There's a rom for it called Cyanogen 10 which features JellyBean.

    • Crystal has IPS and Elf2 does not?

    • crystal sounds better imo :)

CM10 isnt official on these, i think
Plus Project Butter hasn't been completely ported to some features

Possibly an upgrade on the Wifi issues people were having? Ie. works out the box, instead of end user tinkering with firmware etc.

  • For extra $ 20, I would suggest the chuwi v8 from buyincoins using the 8% off code from the same op's the other post. http://www.buyincoins.com/new_en/details/8-chuwi-v8-android-…

It has good review on forums. Very high c/p ratio.

    Why Crystal -> http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/38581-ainol-novo-7-crystal-r…

    Main reasons:
New Wifi Chip - faster, stable
IPS example - look at the examples provided in link, really obvious
    Preparing SD - fixed

    Drawbacks:
    Less community involvement
    8GB only..
    Pre-order

    Pretty good read :D

  • Thanks - bought! Not sure when it will arrive only a receipt from Paypal thus far. I'm not in any rush for it so not fussed if it takes a few weeks.

  • got one ainol fire, great price for that product

  • Better than iPad 1?

    • +1

There are a lot of tabs that surpass the iPad 1 if you are only looking at specifications. The original iPad is ancient by today's tech standards: low resolution, single core, 256MB DDR RAM.

The Fire is much quicker than the iPad 1.

      • Plus, it's not a crApple product, so win/win! :)

  • Something to better ac 97 audio chipset I would like to see oneday on a tablet/any tablet.
Although I can't see much demand for it, something slightly audiophile would be welcome.

… Carn Android! 8-> ..my headphones are waiting.

  • Can someone recommend an 8" tablet in hd?
    Thanks.

    • +3

Theres a problem with 'inbetween sizes', and thats the resolution can be…'funky'.

Apps are designed for a certain aspect ratio, for android, normally thats standard widescreen :10 format.

You start going to in between inch sizes, and you'll get wierd resolutions, and thusly risk low app compatability.

hence why 10.1" and 7" are the two popular sizes. If you want 8, make do with the 7 and save yourself come headache.

Or get a 10.1" and be bigger than the ipad :P

      • Many thanks MasterScythe.
I never thought of this issue.
Maybe it's time to go to a 10.1" device :)

  • This or nexus 7 / ipad 2?

    • Nexus 7 —> You can buy 2.5 of this
iPad 2 —> You can buy 4 of this

Both of them are probably better tablets, but just not comparable.

    • +1

If you are new to Android, get the Nexus.

The standard ROM on the Ainol may have compatibility issues with apps on Google Play, and needs flashing custom ROMS to work fully. If you're not comfortable with tweaking you devices, get something that works out of the box.

  • Can this stream 1080p with no problems/lags?

    • Compressed with which codec, and backed up with which audio stream?

      1080p XVID\DIVX? Most likely, they're a simple decode.
h\x264; probably, the chip AFAIK does hardware decoding on 264.
However, say, Mov or RM? Probably not.

I dont mean to offend, but there is a LOT to do with 'ripped video' that people need to consider, its not quite as easy as resolution = quality.

      • Hardware decoding you said on x264, so you saying the CPU is probably not sustainable for software decoding? I thought dual core should be powerful enough?

        • 1080p in software will kill the battery

    • This one has dual core MALI-400 GPU which should have no problem doing 1080P content.

  • thanks, love Ainol

    • +2

Didnt need to know that. Too much info.

    • +1

      Cool, stay loose.

    • Like a boss

  • great find, still deciding from this deal or the Ainol FIRE

  • i'm new to android. will this support any apps bought from the android app store?

    • Google store has issues with the std ROM by the sounds of it, but can be fixed to work with patches/root or a new ROM. Once it has been otu a bit, someone will find a way. Read the link posted by wakkawalla above.

  • Very tempted but not sure about the screen… not true IPS and smaller resolution… would prefer 1280 x 800.. still very tempted though… will have to research more!!! :)

  • Can someone please tell me if it outputs in HD (1080p/720p) through HDMI when playing a HD video souce or in its native resolution of 1024x600 only? Also do these support external HDD?

  • Hmmm I tried ordering and it went to the last screen at PayPal to confirm payment then I got an error saying merchant not accepting form of payment.

    Anyone having similar issues?

    • +1

Yeah not sure… I just ordered as well and after the paypal payment it redirected me back to the website but it was just a blank screen.. the URL mentioned recipt_pp.aspx but does not display.

I have received my PayPal email with an order no in it, so hope it has gone thru.

  • I'm interested in this unit since it is dramatically smaller than my 10inch tabs, and for only $100, im interested but could someone confirm that the unit internet browsing is smooth? Since that's all that concerns me, oh yes also, after having a USB dongle does the performance reduce with any sort of lag?

  • Price im getting is $98.93 AUD plus a free gift. Did i do something wrong?

    • I would like that…can you order two :)

  • Which is better? This? the Flame? or the Fire? Please help

    • Given all are good value tabs with support from the community, a benefit may be in having IPS with a higher resolution screen — for easier and sharper viewing. Fire/flame would be the better in that respect while the rest boast comparable features. 4.1 (Jelly Bean) is but a point upgrade.

  • For some reason I am not getting this at 100.05 even after the coupon. This is what I get at checkout with DHL delivery:
    Order Subtotal: $123.45
    Shipping Cost: $10.44
    Discount: ($6.17)

    • price has been changed :) i got $123.45 on base price too..

    • Confirming the price has been changed for the Crystal.
I got a few guys at work interested in trying Ainol for the first time and put an order in for three.
It was just before 12pm today that I placed the order with the coupon.
I was charged a total of $300.86 USD (AU$297.47) including DHL delivery. Bargain!

I got a few guys at work interested in trying Ainol for the first time…

        Hope you guys have fun!

  • I just bought the Ainol Aurora 2.. very happy so far..its worth spending an extra $20 for an extra 1GB of DDR3 ram, HDMI out & total 16GB of storage.. it might have ICS but so far its working like a bawse!

avi files work nice, usb 1.0 though… only about 7mb/sec for transfers.. but hey its $115!

  • Just bought an Ainol Fire (Flame) for $125 from Aliexpress.com. I think extra $25 is worth spending for better spec tablet.

    • +1

      nice price… any link??

      • Ended up getting the Ainol Fire - better specs and didn't cost much more.

$127.51 US (with $5 voucher) shipped DHL express ~ Ended up being $124.14 AU from my account.

        http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Free-shipping-Singap…

        • how did you get the 5bucks off?

        • Just got an email from that seller saying that the price was incorrect. I've just shot a message back, I'll see what they reply and update here.

        • First registration. Use Master Card for payment. Just refer to "banner" on web page.
