Telstra Vivo Y21s Mobile Phone $39 In-Store @ Woolworths

950

Further to this deal three months ago, this phone has again reduced in price.

As a burner phone, I think this is great value at only $39. Woolworthsstaff told me it has been deleted from their system (to make way for the newer Y22s model) so the only way to know if there is stock is to have staff physically check their cabinet…

Good luck and happy hunting!

Who knows what the minimum quantity is. Honestly, I don't care if the post gets taken down. Just following the lead of this deal where the OP showed a pic of a clearance sticker too.

      Go ahead, unpublished me. ;)

          believe conspiracy theories

Did you know that accusing people of believing in conspiracy theories is in itself a type of conspiracy theory?

Did you know that accusing people of believing in conspiracy theories is in itself a type of conspiracy theory?

    locked to Telstra network.

    • How much to unlock?

      • +2

        80 to unlock

        • +9

80 if activated for less than 6 months
25 if activated between 6 months and 2 years
nil if activated over 2 years

          • +1

@isdnman: What about the cheaper online ones on ebay who used to unlock for a couple of $. They no longer around?

            • @[Deactivated]: I asked a few ebay sellers and none said they could do it.

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: I saw one ebay seller charging $45 and advised it could take up to 3 weeks.
***Estimated between Fri, 13 Oct and Thu, 19 Oct to 2000

The Telstra site advises it could take up to 7-10 days to unlock your phone for $80.

          • @isdnman: Boost sims counted?

            • @Bii: Telstra reseller SIMs will work with Telstra-locked phones. Same with Optus & Vodafone. e.g. Buy an Optus phone and it will work on Amaysim. I've never had a problem anyway. It's not so much the business name but the frequency bands they use. i.e. They lock out the frequency bands not on their network. I wish all of them would just stop that nonsense. I consider any phone or modem that can't work on all Australian frequency bands as not fit for intended purpose.

              • @[Deactivated]: My Boost SIM is not working in Telstra locked ZTE Blade A52.
                Any work arounds?
Telstra is asking for $60 to unlock as Boost is not officially supported in locked phones.

                • @boOz: Well that's weird. Two things.

                  a) With my Android phone, if I insert a SIM from a different carrier a setup notification pops up. If I touch it, it asks what carrier to use. But if I accidentally flick that notification off the screen it doesn't come back, even if I turn the phone off and on again and/or remove/replace the SIM. The only way I've found to get the notification back is to insert a SIM from a different carrier (Vodafone/Optus or their resellers), then go back to the first SIM. So if that's what happened, try doing that. (Find someone with an Optus/Vodafone or their resellers SIM, insert in your phone, select the "new" Telco, remove, and replace with the Boost one again.) Note: Sometimes the second SIM just works without needing to know who the carrier is, so I don't get a notification. But when I remove it, turn phone off, insert SIM 1 again, I still get the "which carrier is this" notification.

                  b) This MIGHT be your excuse to get a free phone unlock. Someone in a recent phone deal thread I think it was, contacted livechat and told them their SIM wouldn't work, said they had one of their locked phones but it wouldn't work with a (Telstra?) reseller SIM, and the rep unlocked it for them for free to solve the problem.

When doing it I'd act dumb so it doesn't sound like all you want is a free unlock. i.e. "A friend of mine had this same problem and livechat said they'd unlock something for him… I only use Boost which is Telstra, yeah? But I think some phones are locked to Telstra others to Optus, etc. Anyway after he unlocked it everything just worked… are you able to do that to my phone?"

If they say you have to pay… "But I only use Telstra or Boost… I don't need to unlock it to use another company… I need it unlocked to use Telstra." If he still says no, "I don't think it's right. I shouldn't have to pay to make a Telstra phone work with Telstra." (I find if I argue 3x times about 2/3 of the time I get what I'm after.)

  • Great find! Which store was it?

  • +1

Thank you. I picked one up from Fairfield,NSW. I'll try out if More works on it.

  • Will it work on Woolworths Aldi or Boost who use.. Telstra

    • +3

Boost sim works on my telstra modem

      • Thanks! From my testing in the outback I thought Boost should be as it's full Telstra.. my next bit is the other resellers.

        • +1

I was reading in a motorhome forum people saying they are NOT getting the full Telstra network on Boost!? That they can be on Boost and get 1 bar, standing next to someone on Telstra getting 4 bars. Someone also said he went from Telstra to Boost and got worse/less service in the same locations as before.

          • @[Deactivated]: I think that’s difference in phones more that Boost v Telstra.
And the reality is out the back off whoop whoop even your best coverage will be only 20 km out of town…. Unless u go satellite.

            • @suchis: Reading their comments I thought that too. But as I said one guy said he was using the same phone. Doesn't make sense to me, but about five people were adamant before I stopped reading the thread.

    • +1

Unlikely with Woolies or Aldi but should with Boost

    • +1

I think Boost and JB will work, but not others

    • +2

I just tried Woolies and no luck.

      • Thanks

  • +3

Thanks OP Great find. Use it on Boost for 6 months, pay $25 to unlock and choose whatever provider you like afterwards.

    • How?

      • +1

This is my understanding because I haven't tried it myself.

To unlock the phone straight away will cost $80. You can use Telstra-locked phones on Boost without unlocking. Choose a Boost plan for 6 months then call Telstra to unlock the phone for $25. After that you can move to a cheaper plan with other providers.

    • Which store was that so we don't bother going there?

So I guess we will see these being sold for double on eBay? ;)

      • +3

Mine will go as free handouts to a 3rd world country

        • You better unlock them first then.

          • +1

@ozhunter68: Do you think he is gonna pay $80 for 3rd world kids ..😀😀 Lol Cmon

        • Your family no doubt.

    • +2

Hurr durr. You must be real proud of yourself.

      • And you must be real sore?

      Is that you broden…….

Good price to use for a Samsung trade in bonus deal

  • +4

was tempted to buy it but soon realise my 5 year old OnePlus 5T (SnapDragon 835) with 8G RAM is better than this in every way… Network speed, ram, processor, gpu… everything….

    • And how much did you pay for that?

      • around just over 2000 RMB? equiv to around 500AUD. but that's 2017, and I don't need a 3rd phone…

  • +2

    did someone say landfill?

    • Hazardous materials. Pay extra.

  • +2

Didnt have any stock at Highpoint

  • Another Woolies staff said they checked the system and it wasn't in stock. I mentioned deleted item, they said the system will show stock even for clearance or deleted items. Which makes sense as why would they delete an item from their system if they have stock, it's not as if their system has limited memory or something? lol

    • Clearly their system is inaccurate as people are finding stock in person despite their system saying there is no stock…

  • Thanks OP found a last one at my local store.

    • +1

In Melbourne? Would help others if you said where from as long as there is more stock don't you think?

      • +2

Point Cook Town Center, Melbourne only had one.

        • +1

I probably went after you then :(

  • +3

      • +1

        Yep

        • Coles had clearance specials on these months ago, but you got it from Woolies then?

          • +1

@ozhunter68: Yes Woolies last one in ivanhoe Vic, was looking for this vivo and saw Nokia

    • Is this a better phone or on par with the Vivo?

      • +1

nope, Nokia's worse, Helio G35 instead of Helio G80, this nokia doesn't even have 5th Gen WiFi AC.

  • This plus droidcam would make for a reasonable webcam.

    • but droidcam doesnt have night vision / IR?

      • you might missed webcam vs security cam

        • oh, yea, you are right
was thinking droidcam was a ip cam (app) rather than webcam
many years back I downloaded an android app to use as "baby monitor" and having issues of night vision
