causing your PCIe device to have to be taped to the motherboard.

How/why do you tape a PCIe device to a motherboard?

      • -2

I'm also frustrated. Their explanation to me was that the 6650xt and the 3070 are equivalent graphics cards, and the motherboard doesn't support it

        • +7

So you taped a PCIe device to your motherboard because you're frustrated?

          Sense good make you do.

          • +3

@Gnostikos: Thank you, I lol'd on what is otherwise a crappy work day.

        • +5

this legit sounds pretty bad, but before we start bashing the seller, can we have a screenshot as evidence?

          • +1

            @OMGJL: Nah, don't be stupid.

He taped a PCIe device to his mobo for goodness sake! Whatever happened to Zondass in his dealings with TechFast doesn't even merit explaining because it's all clearly TechFast's fault and he doesn't need to prove a single claim he's making.

Just pay him his compensation already TechFast, this is an outrage.

            • +3

@Gnostikos: just in case he can't English and techfast did make a false claim on 3070. I always like to hear stories on both sides, even if one side seems not very clever.

              • @OMGJL:

even if one side seems not very clever.

One side doesn't even have a coherent case to make. The OP sounds like that "Has Anyone Really Been Far Even As" meme.

Maybe next time the OP can tape his brain back into his skull before unloading a word salad of complete nonsense and expecting everyone to instantly decipher his verbal diarrhoea.

          • -5

@OMGJL: To avoid legal issues, I won't provide it for now. However, it's quite simple. You can Google it. The MSI B550M Pro and Gigabyte RX 6650 XT Gaming OC are such a stifling combination

            • +5

              @Zondasss: lmao you're a clown

            • +1

@Zondasss: Let me guess, your wifi card you bought didnt fit in the second slot and they gave you an extension cable as a good gesture and you taped the card inside the case? Yeah that's really on you.

              • +3

@Postal Dude: I disagree, if the website allows you to customize some components of your pre-built PC, there is the expectation that the components are compatible without extension cables.

If the components the user selects require extension cables, riser cards, right angle PCI adapters etc then the website should handle that by informing the user during component selection.

                • +1

@poglet: Pretty sure they don't sell wifi pcie cards as addons, I'm assuming it was their own.

                  • +2

@Postal Dude: Yeah you're right. Turns out the guy purchased a computer and selected the RX 6650 XT because of the motherboard description on the website stating:

"A second PCIE device (e.g. network card, installed post-purchase) will not fit with RTX 3070 graphics cards and above."

Thinking that a RX 6650 XT is not a RTX 3070 or above, he assumed his second PCIE device would fit. I can understand how this might get misinterpreted.

            • @Zondasss: I see no issue with a combination between these 2 products, seems to be a good pair.

my concern is whether or not techfast made a false claim saying this is as good as 3070, and under what condition did they say it.

              • @OMGJL: I bought the recent deal from them with that same 6650 and a B550M upgrade and it is working great.

            • @Zondasss: Old mate watched a couple of Amber Heard vs Johnny Depp videos and now he's a legal expert.

You really think TechFast will sue you over an ozbargain comment?

            • @Zondasss: Alright I'll bite. Can you provide a proper explanation of the issue? Like other commenters have pointed out, there are no incompatibilities between the listed hardware.

            • +2

@Zondasss: you and words are a stifling combination

          • +1

            @OMGJL: Will never come.

        • 6650XT is somewhere between a 3060 and 3070. There is not such thing as a motherboard that doesn't support either an amd or nvidia card unless there is a weird mix of hardware causing an issue.

Is the tape you're talking about to stop a card sagging? A 6650XT should not weight enough to sag so… ?

        • Guess his second PCIe device (wifi card) didn't "fit" into the motherboard with 6650XT?
Seem strange, if you are using tape, something is wrong, picture please !

    • Screws not included??

      • -7

Not really. Only when you buy their products will you realize that their build has many traps.

        • +8

2 week old account that has only been used to trash techfast

          • -2

@BargainDoubter: Have you bought anything here? Please share your pleasant shopping experience

            • @Zondasss: Bought many PC from techfast over the years and NEVER had an issue that they couldn't resolve.

        • +1

that their build has many traps.

As in Claymore mines? Punji sticks? Tripwire grenades?

Damn, TechFast are going above and beyond these days to build really intrusion-proof cases. Personally, I'd see that as a value-add.

        • +4

my dude, between taping pcie devices for unspecified reasons, talking about techfast laying traps in systems and referring to everyone else as 'bots', you have made my afternoon

        • +2

what do you mean "not really"? Yes or no?

          • +1

@benjibibbles: Schrodinger's Spare Screws. They're in the box until you open it.

        • +1

Can you provide more information about what really happened because you are making yourself look quite silly with these comments and I'm keen to know what happened.

      • +2

        Or Screws loose somewhere. ;)

    • +1

      what???

    • +4
      • He sounds like hes not completely computer illiterate but can't understand why a 2.5 slot card takes up 3 slots. Pretty baffling.

The whole thing just sound shifty and definitely does sound like he's just there to trash. Obviously has the time to properly explain what he's on about but instead just posting the same nonsense over and over…

    • +16

Is the tape in the room with us now?

      • +1

I rarely LOL but this one even made me snort and chortle. I am still giggling as a I type. Thank you @cmdwedge. As a psychotherapist, you made my week.

      • DAMN! BURN.

  • Recommendations between this mob, nebula and enigma? Any other recommendations for value rig builders especially in Brisbane?

    • +1

Tech Fast is usually cheaper builds, but they also use cheaper brands.
This is $100 cheaper than nebula
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/800111

    • +3

      Enigma

They are the only OzB builder who use a decent stock PSU in their most recent 70 class GPU build:

      Enigma - Inwin P75F 750W Gold (B tier, 5 year warranty)

Nebula - DarkFlash GP650 650W Bronze (No tier, 3 year warranty)

TechFast - unknown 650W Bronze. XPG Kyber ATX 3.0 (No tier, 5 year warranty) previously confirmed as the 750W Gold upgrade

Buying a new prebuilt in 2023 and matching a 40 series GPU with an ATX 2.4 Bronze PSU is stupidity

Also notice Enigma deals on 70 class GPU builds are also less frequent because - surprise - getting good pricing on good PSU's is not a regular occurrence

    • +4

Cant speak for Enigma and Nebula (but will likely try them in the coming months when I upgrade - for the customisability).
For TF, i purchased my current PC off them in about 2017ish; wholeheartedly recommend them for what they are. If youre after a budget good value PC, and obviously not too concerned with the brand of parts, then they are unreal. I did have an issue on arrival of my PC, but the team were amazing for working to get it all sorted. Great to deal with and fully recommend them for people who are alright with the lucky dip aspect- obviously not for everyone, but does fit a lot of people. If you want more visibilty of the brands of parts then enigma and nebula seem better, if you really care strongly about the parts then just DIY build, or pay more to choose parts via like Scorptec or PCCG custom builds.

End of the day all avenues have their customer base for who the product is suited to.

  • Why do I subconsciously want intel
Have never had an amd, am I being ridiculous?

    • +9

      yes you are.

whilst Intel still has the "single core performance crown", AMD is doing very well on the competition.

7500f beats 13400f in gaming performance quite a bit and is only slightly weaker in multi-core performance because Intel have included questionable E-Cores (cheater cores in my book)

7800x3D compete head-to-head with 13900k in gaming, even though it's worse on raw compute performance in both single core/multi cores.

7950x uses 1/3 of power as a 13900k and beats its multi-core performance with 16 real cores with no cheater core.

7950x3D beats 13900k in almost every way. Yes it have scheduling issues between 3D cache cores and plain cores, but so is Intel with their cheater cores….

Intel does have a few decent choices like 13600k with OC isn't too far off 13900k, depends on price 13700k can be a decent choice too (especially if you have decent DDR4 ram to pair already)… it really all just comes to price-performance right now.

disclaimer: this comes from a 13700k owner, who previously used 5600x/10850k/10700k/3700x/2700x/6700k….. list go on.

      • @OMGJL Thankyou for the informative post 👍

      • Holy moly. Thanks muchly for the deets.

    • Honestly I was the same as you - years and years of Intel-only. Finally jumped to AM5 and am so happy with the purchase.

      ASrock B650E Riptide WiFi
      AMD 7950X CPU
64GB of Kingston.. something something 5200Mhz

      Beast.

      • Dude that's a beast. no GPU so you doing some floating point stuff or somthing??

  • +9

I am here to make my usual comment:

Heads up: 8GB DDR5 stick is x16 bitwidth, which contains half the bank group amount than normal x8 width chips, and the (random access) performance SUCKS

layman terms this RAM will cause your game FPS stutters and fluctuate way much more than if you had 16G*2 RAM with the same frequency/timing.

    • They did offer 32GB upgrade for $89 so I supposed they did listen to your feedback :)

  • +14

Zondass and his mythical "TechFast PCIe device taped to a mobo" anecdote has officially been inducted into the OzBargain hall of fame.
One of the best troll posts in recent memory.

    • Up there with the mini 3060 fiasco (or 2060 I dont remember).

  • Make it $999, I know you can do it :P

  • +3

    will this run fortnite

    • It'll at least play run Uno

    • Midjourney?

  • +4

I saw that Techfast has put the 32GB RAM 5200MHz down from $199 to $89. Went for that option with the 4080 build.

    • That's more like it.

    • +2

      My not unreasonable complaints worked!
The next target is better motherboards which have Wifi or allow Wifi PCI-E expansion cards. The current one does not allow any physical space to install one and you're stuck with USB options :(

      • +1

Here's to hoping that Techfast would listen. Thanks mate for voicing your concerns and Techfast earned another 4080 build order from me haha.

        • My main complaint is the lack of customer care that Techfast seem to have. Their goal is to sell a PC with the best graphics card they can afford at zero/minimum margin, then build up the rest with low quality parts, offering upgrades to maximise profit/claw back their margin.

Sure, if you're so inclined, you can replace the RAM, Mobo, install another air cooler and SSD etc yourself to get the most out of the build due to Techfast's inherent poor or overpriced upgrade options. However, for the user who just wants a PC with minimal fiddling, you're stuck with a build hamstrung because of Techfast's cost cutting and general lack of care about what they are putting out.

I'm calling them out as their competitors like Nebula PC (esp Lawrence!) and Enigma PC offer reasonable upgrade paths and reasonable prices so when Techfast (& to a lesser extent BPC) don't do this, its glaringly obvious where their priorities lie. Maybe they think they're targeting different markets? I feel like they could target both markets with not a lot of change at their end, and have more pride about what they're putting out.

My car example would be selling a Ford mustang with piddly 14" wheels. Everyone knows its a nonsensical combo and should be upgraded immediately. It leaves a sour taste in the mouth.

          • @plasmapuff: Hey mate I hear ya. Actually saw Enigma and Nebula builds as well and true - their upgrade options are somewhat much more reasonable than Techfast but it just happened that I was aiming for a 4080 build with 32GB RAM and Techfast got just that for below $2.5k. To put in perspective the GPU alone by itself is already $2k so everything else has to be cut a down a bit - but I found the 7500f is still plenty fast for my needs and also I've also asked around and a 4080 build with parts that I picked might cost well over $3k easy.

So in true Ozbargain fashion, I found this build to be reasonably cheap for my needs and there are some upgrade pathways so I wouldn't mind too much sticking with it for a good 3-5 years before upgrading.

      • +1

        Not if you use tape!

        • +1

Zondass can't take a break tonight lol

  • Hey all. New to the PC sphere and looking to get a machine to play Baldurs Gate. Spoilt for choice really, will this 4070 config have enough horsepower to run BG3 comfortably at 1440p, or would the 4070ti rigs going around be better suited? Cheers

    • Bg3 act 3 with a lot of NPC is really taxing on CPU right now (might improve with future update). And you need 32 GB of RAM for sure.

Graphics card wise 4070 should be good enough for 2k.

I would try to get a better CPU if you are very focus about bg3. The upgrade option is not great for the deal.

    • I'm running it on a 4070, 7600X, 32GB, 3440x1440P and its runs pretty well on Ultra. In Act 2 just shy of 100FPS. Of course a 4070Ti would be better but its +$500 over a 4070 base. I'm saving my $ and waiting for next gen with 16GB VRAM.

      • +2

The big bottle neck of this game is act 3 city. My fps fell off a cliff after getting to act 3. (Which is why I'm building a new PC)

Please update me once you get to act 3. My new PC will use 7600X as well so keen to know. Cheers

  • +2

I bought 5700X 4070Ti deal from Techfast but
PNY 4070ti has 3 year warranty and the serial doesn’t match the box…

    • why?

      • Yeah I wonder

    • I'm no boxologist, but I assume the box they gave you was from another card…

    • Do you need the box for warranty?

  • @luketechfast: hey mate could you please check your email re my query about the Ryzen 7900?
