AGL Energy Customer & BYO Modem - $35 Per Month off NBN Fibre Upgrade FTTP Plans for 12 Months, e.g. 100/20 $69/Month @ AGL

125

Edit: If Leaptel is available in your area, it looks like a better deal overall: no need to be a gas customer, and no early exit fees. Check that one first before considering this. Thanks for your comment twix

Looks like a new version of this deal is back. This time it only applies to FTTN to FTTP and FTTC to FTTP upgrade plans. Thanks to OP, reusing some of their description:

Save big with AGL nbn Saver!
Get $35 off every month for 12 months on a new fibre upgrade NBN plan, then $15 off after that, when you BYO modem and have AGL energy.
A $220 fee applies if you cancel or downgrade any fibre upgrade plan within 12 months.
Offer ends 9 November, 2023.

Plan Speed tier First Year Monthly Price
Home Fast nbn 100/20 $69
Home Superfast nbn 250/25 $89
Home Ultrafast nbn 1000/50 $109

You might be able to get a $50 account credit to your gas account if you sign up over the phone on 13 12 45. That is also the only way to choose a connection date (no such option on the website). Thanks @TanedaR! Worked for me, the call took 17 minutes.

  • I am with them. Home Fast FTTP. Speed is not as advertised.

    • What speeds are you getting, and what's your location?

    • +1

They are not 1st tier provider so this is what expected :)

      • +3

That's not true, their advertised average speed is what is expected, should be around 100/17 Mbps for 100/20 plan.

  • +2

    sounds diabolical intertwining two services

    • +1

the Triple-Play package deal of cable TV, Internet and land-Line phone was popular back in the day. Then came mobile, and the likes of Telstra and Optus tried to lock people down even further with additional discounts for every service added. This is one of the reasons that so many Australians are still with the likes of Telstra and Optus today.
Moral of the story: Don't bundle services as it is then very easy to switch between providers without hassle.

Basically the same price as Leaptel and Superloop to get FTTP, they don't charge $220 and you don't need to bundle energy.

AGL nbn is provided by Southern Phone. Stay away.

    • Leaptel or Superloop for your money? Can't decide.

Ah not in my inner suburb of a capital city. Typical.

    • +2

Pretty sure it's also cheaper with Leaptel @$65/mth for 12 months?

    • +2

Superloop reduced price is only 6 months instead of 12.

But Leaptel looks better than this deal, their $65 is what this deal ends up after the account credit. No hoops to jump through would have been nice. Wish I'd seen that before I signed up to AGL.

Oh well, it is what it is now. As long as I have no technical issues or sub-par speed, nothing lost. And if either of those happen, I'm known to be tenacious…

      • +1

Some OzBargainers got another 6 months discount by asking Superloop.

Diagnosing sub-par FTTP speed can be done by using another ISP at the same time as AGL. Launtel has a week free trial you can use and you don't even have to give them your card details.

    Notes:

CGNAT with only a static ip add-on ($6.80/m)
    No IPv6
AGL providing service via Sourthern Phone which they acquired
Their instructions ask for PPPoE but people are saying that their connections are configured for DHCP/IPoE
    Terrible, terrible reviews

    • If forums are anything to go by you can opt out of CGNAT and get a dynamic public IP for free.

That's certainly what I will do, and as per T&C they are obliged to do that, since they specify that they will supply a dynamic IP. No mention of CGNAT in the T&C.

  • Dont join, speed is not as advertised..and the CS is shxt….

    • If that is the case and the CIS does not reflect real life speeds that is potentially misleading which can be referred to the ACCC to follow up with the company. If they have found to be for many customers then it might be something to lift their game.

  • Not only are the speeds bad but their customer service is horrible too. Stay away

Whatever you save on interweb, you will more than pay for with AGL's energy rates.

Not in WA, where the plan I am currently on is by far the cheapest I've ever seen from any provider. 56% discount off the prices set by the state government. When that expires, their current offer, 41% off usage and supply charges, beats the competition (Alinta and Kleenheat) that both offer only 35% discount off usage only.

      • In Victoria they jacked gas prices up by a third in August. And their electricity prices have never been competitive.

AGL is the Telstra / Qantas equivalent in terms of service quality and value for the energy industry

I was with AGL internet a while back (powered by Southern Phone). It was the slowest in my area (Robina, QLD) by a longshot (?low CVC capacity). Frequent dropouts, speeds not as advertised, and poor ping with most domestic and intl servers.
Literally go with anyone else and you'll probably have a better experience.

  • I ditched AGL (Southern Phone) a month after signing up with them. This was 3 years ago so things may have changed. I had frequent drop outs for weeks and then no service for almost a day. I churned to Superloop and had flawless internet again. Never again for me.

  • Is there anyone with Leaptel in WA, it would be greatly appreciated if you can share a speedtest result.

  • I'm on superloop. 99 for six months then 109 after. This deal isn't really a deal for 1000/50

  • Avoid AGL Telecommunications like the plague.

I used them for mobile for a couple of months and every single interaction with them was a nightmare. Their online systems are not developed enough that you can manage things online, so they direct you to chat, which always ends up with an Energy representative despite selecting mobile. They fail to connect you to right person, and when they finally do, they tell you you need to call and wait on hold to speak to someone.

    • Even for something as simple as updating payment details. In 2023, how can that not be done online or in their app?!

  • throttled bandwidth very bad. I got 50/20mbps, but my daily bandwidth is at about 20mbps download.. stay away from this company.
