  • anyone has experience switching from superloop to agl nbn FTTN by using BYO modem? my superloop 6 months discount ends in Jan 23, hopefully the transfer will be as easy as transferring from ABB to Superloop which i didn't have to do anything

    • +12

Superloop and Aussie BB use the automatic IPoE protocol for authentication.

AGL use the PPPoE protocol for authentication. Login to your VDSL2 modem and put in the AGL username & password given to you.

      • Another Vocus reseller ?

        • +1

Southern Phone who were acquired by AGL in 2019.

      • thank you
i can't seem to be able to log into my netcommwireless modem (NF18ACV) originally from ABB, thats why i thought might be lucky again that i dont have to log into the router when i switch :(
assuming the sign in details at http://192.168.20.1/ is (admin/admin)

        • +5

You can factory reset the modem and it will go back to admin/admin if you don't know the login details.

        • +1

NF18ACV from Aussie BB is unlocked and that is the right IP and login. Did you change the modem password?

If else fails do a factory reset.

          • @Twix: Hi there, i failed to get same or better discount with Superloop retention team, so i'm switching to AGL in 2 weeks, i never changed my modem password but not sure why i cant log in, so i guess i will have to factory reset.
Just wonder when will be the best time to do factory reset, do it now while i'm still with superloop which i;m worry it will mess up everything and make it not working or wait till i switched to agl in 2 weeks time since i will need the AGL username & password given to me?

Thank you and sorry for the dumb question :(

            • @bargainhereicome: It doesn't matter when you do it.

              • @Twix: once i do the factory reset, will it mess up my current internet? as in will it still working? or i have to put in some setting from superloop? dont remember i get any username or password from superloop from i switch from ABB to Superloop.
thanks again for helping, i asked the AGL then they not been helpful at all, asked me to ask superloop

                • @bargainhereicome: Login to the NF18ACV and configure the connection type to IPoE to get your nbn working again.

Superloop and Aussie BB don't use passwords to authenticate your nbn. That is why when you changed from Aussie BB to Superloop your nbn just worked.

                  • +1

@Twix: thanks a lot! will give that a shot, much appreciated, Happy New Year!

Call the Superloop retention team and tell them you want your deal extended. 02 9138 7948
I've done it two times for an extra 6 months each time. Just make a calendar note when it's due to expire. Otherwise if you are cancelling beware Superloop don't refund or credit Pro Rata during billing cycle.

      • +1

I 2nd this! I have done the same thing and will be due to renew again next month. Having two referrals attached to my account brings my 100/20 NBN plan down to $51/mth and would like to keep it.

      • Did they extend your original discount (higher) or just a random $5 or $10 discount (lower)?

      • Hi there, do you always get the same discount as you first sign up? i'm on the NBN 50/20 for $53.95 (after $16 discount) just called the retention team for further discount but they say can only offer $5 discount for my plan, what a joke, is that depends on the operator you get?
        Thank you

        • Yes they done the same to me refused to honour the deal. Apparently a new policy that they can't match. I've moved to Australia Post Broadband deal posted on Ozbargain

    Hey Op, welcome.

A few things, the link doesn't seem to indicate tou need to be a Westpac customer? Also it's for NBN plans so you might want to add that to the title?

"AGL energy customers get $35/mth off AGL NBN plans for 12mths"

    Then in.thw description
AGL energy customers get $35/mth off AGL NBN for 12mths, then an ongoing $15/mth discount.

    • thank you , i think any existing AGL customer can get this discount? not too sure

      • +1

        Yes, when I go through app it says $35 off for 12 months. 50/20 is $49 a month, 100/20 is $69, 250/25 is $89 and 1000/50 is $109.

  • +26

Bit of a fake discount after 12M, their regular prices are inflated & it makes the "discounted" figure the same as competitors.

    • +1

      Inflated rates aka Telstra Rates

    • +1

you can say that to other isp right?

    • I suppose you can churn out just before 12 months expires like 1 day then you won't get much penalty

  • +1

"Bundle and save. • How do I get digital Mastercard $50 (existing energy customer, going to add NBN plan)

  • If they use Optus for AGL mobile, I assume they will use Optus for NBN.

    I could be wrong.

    • AGL gets their nbn from Southern Phone. 1.6 stars from 1156 reviews on everyone's favourite ProductReview.com.au.

      • +3

I have never used AGL NBN, but I am not sure if ProductReview.com.au is reliable on NBN companies.
Superloop has a 3.2 stars only, but I would give a 5 stars to it. Not sure why people are complaining.

        • Yeah PR isn't entirely reliable when it comes to ISPs. Still though 1.6 stars ain't great.

        • You are definitely right there! Don't use PR as a source for ISP. I've been with AGL and they've been pretty good. I don't really get any problems and they are helpful. fyi might depend where you are since I noticed differing views. But that's just like other companies they've expanded more whereas AGL is getting there!

      • everyone's favourite ProductReview.com.au.

I'm part of the group 'everyone' and they are not my 'favourite'.
I wouldn't trust ANY review site. The simple fact that it's usually only people that got a lemon are the ones that feel the need submit reviews, and that fake reviews are far too easy to do means that you will never get an accurate reflection of anything ever. I have no idea why anyone would ever trust ANY review site.

      • +1

Lucky in this day and age it's quite easy and straight forward to switch providers if not happy with a particular one.

  • +2

That comes for $49/month for 50/20. Looks good.

    • You'll pay more for your electricity and gas though…

I see what you did there jv.

        • -3
          • @jv: How it is compared to superloop?

            • +1

@Oxygenzero: I find the speeds slightly faster with More, but otherwise very similar.

Support is similar too but More don't have CVC graphs published on their website.

              • @jv: I’m $55 for 25mb with SLoop, does More use same protocols?

          • @jv: I'd pay more if I banked with commbank too lol

            • @lancesta: I don’t bank with CBA, just have a free MasterCard

  • $49 for 50MB Sounds competitive.
My current Superloop offer is going to end in Jan.
Hopefully AGL won't withdraw the offer by then.

    • Yes, I’m with Exetel which is their partner company on discounted price until February. Otherwise I’ll move to Superloop paired with one of the cashbacks. It’d be nice to get 12 months at $49 with Agl though and hopefully is decent.

    • If it’s cheaper than your current Superloop plan, why not change as soon as your current month is ending? I’ve just churned from Superloop to Internode 6 days ago, and now I’m setting a reminder to switch to AGL at the end of my month.

  • Hmm 89 for 250/40 for 12 months. Same with my 100/40 from Mates. Not bad. Might give Mates a call tomorrow to see if they could offer their exisiting customer any deal before I decide to switch then.

    • +1

I don’t think Mate price match. I recently moved away from them as since changing from Vocus (which was great) to wireline made my connection unusable at peak times. When I contacted them they didn’t seem to care tbh.

      • +1

Shame. I actually am using their mobile plans at the moment as well. Welp time to switch then.

      • Ahhh interesting. Dropouts at night for me with Mate lately. This is why. Thanks! Might be time to look for another provider for me. Unusual they didn't care as their customer service has always been top notch.

        • +1

Yes, a real shame but now they seem to focus only on profit. Do a Speedtest and you’ll see who they are using.

    • +2

      250/40

They'll be a typo. 250/25 is what NBN offers

  • +4

Had Agl for about a year when I moved home til mid this year, been experiencing constant issues (extremely slow speed around similar times of the day) for the last half year before I switched, no problem since on the same speed tier (FTTP 100/20). Would not recommend them.

  • +1

Anyone on AGL NBN currently and can advise how the speeds are?
Recently switched to Superloop, so when 6 months end, looking to who next :)

    • +2

It seems speeds aren’t great from product review. I am with Exetel atm and planning to go to SL and just rotate switch SL, Exetel. They are the same company so I’m expecting similar quality.

    • +2

I have been using for 6months tried 3 different modems but not happy. Going to switch back to Telstra from AGL

      • That's always one concern I have. Although Telstra is very expensive (now $95 for 50/20), but it has not failed me for the past 5 years that I've been using it.

    • I've been with AGL NBN for 6 months now, and pretty happy so far. 😊

  • Just wondering optus modem will work with AGL NBN?

    • +1

      Yes.

Just recently switched and Optus modem worked without any setting changes

  • They can’t indicate evening speeds for SuperFast and UltraFast plans 🤔 anyone with them please share your experience, if there are no one we know how their service is.

  • Do they offer opticom fiber optic plans?

    • +8

What's ure address I'll type it in to the address checker in the middle of the linked page for you.

      • Here you go, let me know if you found an Opticom plan genius:

Level 24, 200 George St, Sydney NSW 2000, Australia

    • And, No, they don't do Opticomm
Check out Exetel for Opticomm atm

  • Slightly cheaper than More Telecom after CommBank discounts!

  • How funny…I put my address in for the checker and all the plans return the below - even though with Superloop currently for FTTN :P
Unfortunately this plan is currently not available at your address.

  • does it take long to switch? also reminder for those on superloop they don't refund prorata, and also to consider this might require some tinkering rather than an automatic switchover like i had with ausbb to superloop.

    • update - i thiknk it changed me overnight. was on superloop. didnt have to tinker with modem settings

      • Swapping from Superloop to AGL isn't automatic. Login to your VDSL2 modem and put in the AGL username & password given to you. Go to speedtest.net to confirm the ISP.

        • +1

Lol, dude might still be with superloop while posting that comment

Edit: Well, just get connected from SL to AGL. I didn't need to change a thing to use my internet either.

          • @gosund: do you pretty much just sign up with AGL and everything just transition over without have to do a thing? Do you have to notify superloop to cancel your plan? thank you! mine is due in 2 weeks

            • @bargainhereicome: Your new isp will do those things for you. But I don't recommend agl after using them for 2 months. Not as stable as super loop and overall the average speed is not impressive.

              • @gosund: yea, i'm reluctant to change but the superloop retention team only offer a pathetic $5 discount instead of $16 discount for me, so have to switch to agl and wait for other better deal i guess

                • +1

@bargainhereicome: Discount-wise, I think it's very hard to find another deal better than this, at least not in the near future.

If you are as lazy as me and can live with the occasional dropouts, welcome to join the AGL. Otherwise, check on Mate or Tangerine which should be 5 to 10 $ dearer but more reliable.

  • As these prices are for BYO modem, can I use my existing Optus modem for the AGL connection? I am out of contract now with Optus and have paid for the device fully.

  • I actually saw this deal last week and it works out to be $5 cheaper overall than More/Tangerine/SpinTel. After reading the reviews it's not worth saving the extra $5 imho.

  • ??
What am I missing here, Offer is 35$ off pcm, so Fixed Wireless Plus shows as 84 pcm, but with Offer and being an AGL customer it comes down to 69 pcm, which is only 15 less per month, and not 35 ??

    • +1

Offer available with selected plans only.

  • +4

First off, good post OP. Their discounts are much higher than they used to be. Though, I suspect because their trying to expand their customer base by offering supremely competitive prices.

I regretfully switched from Aussie broadband to AGL over 12 months ago when AGL launched their NBN offering and only primarily for the plan cost savings. Big mistake.

From experience, I can confirm AGL's 100/20 NBN offering was significantly sub par in comparison to Aussie broadband (frequent dropouts, flaky speeds) and terrible tech support, where I was told I needed to switch to their cloudmesh modem (mind you for a fee, as it was only free on signup). Even after getting their modems I was still experiencing the same issues, and requests of a refund for the modem fell on deaf ears.

As soon as I switched back to Aussie Broadband, it was like a breath of fresh air - consistent NBN service, fantastic local customer service and great technical support..

TL;DR - If you're after great home internet stick with an ISP, not an Energy provider.

Aussie Broadband FTW. They're local and just great!

told I needed to switch to their cloudmesh modem

That is just a cop out. I had their modem (free at beginning of contract) and unplugged for Tenda Nova no problems.

On 50/20 can't say flaky speed. Have had 1 drop out of about 1 - 2 hrs in 11 months.

  • "Home Superfast nbn 250/25 $89" I have a FTTP connection 250/100 connection, on the opticomm infrastructure (not NBN) I would say 89 bucks for crappy upload speed is not worth it if your a streamer or youtuber 25mbps is pitaful for uploading video of any kind.

    • I would say 89 bucks for crappy upload speed

Not everyone streams content though… Greater upload speeds are an overkill for most people.

      • ^ found Malcolm Turnbull’s OzB account

        • Where ?

  • +1

more NBN with Commbank $53.90, no need to be stuck to have them as your energy provider. their energy rates cant be justified to save $5 a month

    • Plus Commbank rewards have $30 off $30 spend with More. So narrows the gap a bit more.

Have AGL telcom 50/20 on FTTC for 11 months, got their free 12 months of Amazon Prime promotion. Had about 1 drop out of 1 hr from their end. Submitted order to More for 12 months.

  • Hi All I’ve been with TPG for years no complaints but they have increased their prices. Now we pay $75 a month for NBN. I’m also Commbank customer. Is there a way I can switch to other providers paying less and getting the same service?

    • No.

      • No means I won’t get a better service than TPG?

    • Yes. Same boat. Been a loyal customer with TPG, no problem with their service but just switched to Superloop recently due to their price hike. The speed remains the same, and slightly cheaper and a $100 woolworths gift card after 6 months.

  • More expensive than what im on even with ongoing discount.

  • I am with Vodafone Nbn for about 2-3 years now. Just checked the most recent plans and prices and noticed the price on the same plan actually increased.

Is this normal on Nbn plans? Shouldn’t the prices for Nbn plans decrease over time just like mobile plans?
