    • +5

I got the 99c for 3 month membership as well, managed to save me $390 on a Great Barrier Reef trip from Cairns earlier this month.

    • +5

Seriously?? You can't find a single restaurant in your area that offers 25% off - a likely saving of $10-20?
Serious question - how much of a discount/saving are you expecting for 99c?

      • +1

I think they meant that those restaurants are overpriced to begin with, they’re not good value even with 25% off.

  • +9

The company got sold about 5-6 years ago and has gone to shit since.

      So that's what happened.

      https://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/new-owners-for-entertain…

I've been a member since 2009 but the app and offers are as bad as I've seen it.

These guys need to get out before the brand is damaged for good.

I'm sad to see what it's become actually as I had many good memories with the EB.

I hope the owners sell up and put someone competent in charge. I can't think of anything good the owners have done in six years.

      • Wow thanks didn't know that, no wonder is gone so bad

      • +1

Well done on the founders to sell out as the market was turning!

  • +1

If I have one going now it has 89 days left, do I just activate it now, or do I activate it later to utilise my membership?

    Thanks.

    • You can wait 90 days to activate.

If you activate now, it will run concurrently and you get to double-up on the offers.

      • +2

When you are activating, you are given 2 options activate now or activate when current subs finished. That’s what I got when activating the 3 month subs

    • I recently activated my second 99c membership, it asked me whether I want the new membership to start after my current membership ends.

  • +1

My $0.99 3 month membership recently ended and only went to 2 places - one of the places told us they no longer accept the entertainment card

  • -1

Yeah my 99c 3 month membership was pretty terrible value even at that price. Best deal I found was 2 for 1 at Ben and Jerry's, but I found that very few places were partnered and of those, most were a measly 25% off (great if you already planned to go there, but this was never the case as the offerings were pretty subpar).

    • +6

My experience is quite the opposite.. though I'm in WA. Had 3 free Baskin Robbins to feed my kids, each worth $5. Then several restaurants & tavern I visited. Few cafes to get free extra coffee. Probably saved around $100 total so far. About to head out of town this week and already planning on using it in some of the places there.

I do intentionally go to these places to make use of the offer before the 3 months expire. But they were not too bad either.

Though I'm not sure if I would pay $35 for it lol.

      • +2

I agree. My initial $0.99 deal saved me $355 in total. Awesome. The best value was probably the 25% off Sushi hub, up to $50. Perfect for extended family sushi weekend lunch.

I've activated my second $0.99 deal and will probably save the same!

        • Damn. Didn't know you could buy multiple. Was it using a different account?

          • @John: As per above : bought 2 during the initial deal. Activated one, then activated the second one after 89 days (it has a 90 day cut-off). Same account, although you can activate a second account / second email if you want

        • +1

I’m in Brisbane and have saved $300+ getting 2for1 steaks at 3 different local pubs

          • +1

@J B S: Agree. It was a great deal, all for $0.99 (or $1.98 if you bought 2)

          • @J B S: Which restaurants? Almost ALL near me are 25% not 2for1.

  • +3

Very little value in it these days but $35 for a year of multi city is still tempting. I'm going to the Gold Coast soon, is there any value to be had there?

  • -1

From someone who got THREE code from the 99c deals……

I would think twice even if it is on sale again at 99c.

The 2 for 1 deals are mostly garbage now. All the big brands are gone and only thing worthy is Glass ay Hilton, That is if you are prepare to pay at least $50 for a main.

Then the discount vouchers, Many has change the cap to $25 with the 25% off ones. Then there is the quality of the food. I did three restaurants on the last week expiry of my first subscription. One are quite bad, one is borderline ok and one is quite good. Is that worth the punt for $75? Not really!

    • Which one was good? Tia

      • +1

        New Shanghai….

Two different style of duck (half each)
        Cold spicy noodle
        Rice cake stir fry
        tofu and mushroom cold dish

the bill was just under $100 so use the the $25 almost in full and food taste really nice. They are always busy for a reason.

Din Tai Fung was ok but the Mains are terrible. Stick with the fried rice and dumplings dish.

        • Wait, you saved $25 at just one restaurant, but would think twice paying 99c for that chance of saving $25…

Hmm… I’m guessing you’re not gonna eat out again in a while?

          • @cloudy: I only do it because I have entertainment book. These never my usual dinning spot…. too expensive.

I am more a fan of the cheap BOGOF but most of them are gone now except Nene Chicken, Donut King and Baskin+Robin.

So yes now I know what is in the deals I may not even pay 99c for it as it's not much use to me

            • @syswong: can i ask, is 99c a lot of money to you? or is it fair to say, that it's nothing.

For most people, they'll consider it nothing.

    • Are you in Sydney? Braza Churrascia is 100% worth a visit at 25% off (caps at $50 which is about 2.5 people)

      • Find it and thanks, will give it ago, since I still have two activated membership …

  • I found this app to be completely useless. Other services like Groupon offer similar discounts without subscription fees.

    • +2

      Different usage scenarios.

Groupon is good if you know you want exactly what's on offer and know you're going to use it before expiry. This is a bit more flexible.

Groupon currently has very few dining offers in WA.

One example that has been there for a while, and I've been there several times with a Groupon is a 3 course dinner with drinks for 2 for $79, up to $126 value. Each item has a limited value, and you have to pay extra for about half of what's on the menu, while not getting anything if you don't max out an item. Available bookings are limited, and exclude Friday and Saturday nights.

It's in the Entertainment book with 25% off, up to $40. Dine any time most days, don't be forced to get 3 courses (which are too much, but if included in the Groupon, who declines dessert?). No need to book ahead.

  • Seems appealing, but I just find it so useless these days. It was good in 2019.

  • Looks like all restaurants at The Star have a 25% offer in the app. For those in Sydney that like the Star itd pay for itself off that meal alone…

  • -1

Bought 2 x 99c memberships. Didn't use the first one, and didn't bother activating the second.

It's a real shame because the entertainment book used to be great value - I'd happily pay the $75 in order to "save" a few hundred bucks. But times change.

    • Did the second one expire already?

      • +2

TL;DR: My extra unactivated code bought 22/06 is still not expired, even now.

So because of a bug, I accidentally bought 4x ("error" in the first purchase, but actually went through) on 22/06.
I activated one code right away, and I gifted one to a friend (generous of me, I know ;)
On the 22/09, I went to activate a second one in my app and found that the 2 remaining codes were listed under "Membership -> Activate Membership". Successfully activated the second code.
Today, I checked again, and the final remaining code is still there, awaiting activation. If I proceed with activation, I can get to the [Activate Now] button with no issues, so I assume it is still available. I'll see in 3 months time whether it is still activatable!

        • Good to know! Bought 30x $0.99 and only used 10 or so, hit my 89th day after purchase on the 23/09 and I didnt wanna take the chance risking it expiring so ended up activating the other 20, now have until 23/12 to use them up!

        • +1

I believe from the purchase date, you have 90 days to activate.
Once 90 days have passed, it will start eating into the membership time but you will still be able to activate it.

Example: 90 days pass and you wait an additional 30 days to activate. Upon activation, there will only be 60 days of the membership remaining rather than 90 days.

    • Yup I agree it's no longer good value is only worth $1 in my books

  • This book is still worth it in SA. Lots of good places and I easily make my money back in one or two dinners. But will agree it has lots quite a lot of value.

    • A few places didn't even want to show "redeemed" so I have some of the vouchers available!

      • Yes same. I found the Yangtze restaurant in Blackwood does this

        • Hah, interesting. I used to know the owners ;)

  • +2

The deals within EB book are very poor now compared to pre pandemic. Merchants can remove themselves any time due to electronic format and lack of shops is also a huge issue

This thing is only worth $1 for that 90 days nothing more

  • +1

Don't forget 7% cashback via CR!

  • According to the offer, we have 90 days to activate after purchase, which can happen until 30 September.
According to the comments, vouchers expire in November.
Which is it? How can a voucher expire when it might not even be activated (available for use) before expiry???

    • How can a voucher expire when it might not even be activated

The expiry date is fixed, so to use it, you should activate before that date.

      • Thanks jv, it was sort of a rhetorical question - I was mainly hinting that the advertised offer might be a tad misleading :)

        • that the advertised offer might be a tad misleading

I find it more misleading that you can't use hotel vouchers during the Xmas holidays only 3 months away.

  • For reference, the App and membership can be activated immediately (including multi-city upgrade).

The bonus pack allegedly arrives by email within a few days.

    • The bonus pack allegedly arrives by email within a few days.

Are they using Australia Post's email service?

      • +1

Hehe. Don't know. I would have thought instant, same as activation, but as of now, still hasn't arrived.

  • If you buy a 2 year deal, how does that work with the offers? When you activate it, do you
    1. Get all the offers for 12 months and then it resets for the second 12 months, ie only use 1 place each 12 months
    2. Or do you get 2 offers for the 1 place straight away and use it any time in the next 2 years.
