Oldubil Cracking down Overseas Accounts and Won't Let U Use Their Card for Turkey Purchases. What to Do for Spotify Renewal?

Oldubil warned about changes to the rules for anonymous cards and recommended "using the balance before today evening"
It is still unclear what will happen to the purchase Spotify.

On October 2, 2023, the Turkish payment system Oldubil sent a warning to customers that anonymous cards can now only be used on Turkish websites with a trust seal. One of the first to notice this was user darios13 from the PlayStation community on DTF.

According to the regulation issued by the Central Bank of Turkey, anonymous cards can only be used on Turkish websites with a trust seal. We recommend that you use your balance before tonight. We will keep you informed.

Oldubil advised customers to use their balance “until tonight”, that is, until October 3, 2023. The company said it would share details in the future.

Some Russian residents use the Oldubil payment system to buy games in Turkey on the PS Store, Microsoft Store and Steam. How the policy change will affect them is unclear.

I still have around 300 Lira sitting just for Spotify renewals, I am not sure what would happen to it? Anyone can help?

Some people say that cucumbers taste better pickled

  • Anyone app stopped working?

    • Still working, can login and see balance.

In terms of transactions, not sure, I just left enough balance for one more month of Spotify Family (64.99 TL) to see if it direct debits successfully on 23/10.

Last 23/09, it failed, but I re-entered the exact same card details and it charged the 64.99 TL successfully.

  • +3

my OIdubil account just got debited 64.99 TL for Spotify Family.

  • Just used all the funds to buy stuffs on EBay.

  • Well I spent all my TRY and now have no way to pay for Spotify. What are you doing now? Plati looks to dodgy. Is switching to use google play the only remaining option?

    • +1

If you have an active Spotify sub, just buy gift cards from another website and keep the Oldubil card as the payment method (but your gift card balance will mean it’ll never get debited)

      • I can’t find Turkish gift cards anywhere unfortunately

        • Even if you do, can someone confirm it's only for individual plans?

A lot of people recently have just prepaid 12 months on the 6 accounts they had that were previously together in a family plan.

    • I'm in the same boat, burnt the remaining balance thinking Spotify would no longer work, now seeing reports that its still working but seemingly cannot top up the card any more. How frustrating!

      • +2

I used Binance P2P trading to top up ever since Revolut having issues. I added some comments of my experience from someone else's guide - link

      • Is Wise not an option for you ?

I've heard of people topping up with that but having to email them after a few days for them to make sure the payment is processed.

        • Asking for ID issued by Turkish?

        • Previously I have used Wise without issue but I attempted a small payment a few days ago and it has not shown up in my Oldubil - my assumption was that the transaction was getting blocked since it was international. Is this not the case?

          edit: spelling

          • @TimmyShooterB: Wise asking for ID, did you provide that

          • @TimmyShooterB: This is exactly the situation I've seen. The person topped up their OlduBil account via Wise and sent OlduBil an email - in english - a few days later with the PDF receipt and the money appeared within the hour. Have a look here on hot uk deals.

@Conkers816: Thanks for the suggestion. I tried this today and it worked. Just got a PDF transaction receipt from the Wise app and sent it to the Oldubil support saying that the funds were missing (in English). They responded within a few hours to confirm my mobile number (to identify the account I guess) and following that, the missing funds appeared in my Oldubil account

              • @TimmyShooterB: Account status is set anonymous and when asked for verification they replied:

Only people who live in Turkey, have a Turkish ID and phone number can make a verification transaction.

              • @TimmyShooterB: Good to know and thanks for confirming. I've got Deezer and Disney on my OlduBil which aren't due until next year but I might use this method to get some money back on to the account now just in case things change again.

        • I withdrawn all my deposit in Oldubil last week due to the message from them. But my friend just top up my account on 9th Oct via Wise to see Oldubil still working. It went through around 6:30pm and my Netflix payment was processed next day.

          • @Capt0083: Yeah I've re-upped my OlduBil account via Wise as well and it went through the next day without a hitch. My two subs aren't due out until next year though so I won't know for a while if the current situation doesn't affect existing payments.

    • I ended up just topping up OlduBil as usual after messing about for ages with google method 1 (which failed)

      • "as usual"? Which method was your usual method?

Sending money into OlduBil with Wise

  • Spotify payment processed yesterday

  • Hi, i have money in my Oldubil. I had same issues with the Oldubil in itunes.
My card was declined to add founds to my itunes and i contact the apple support, but they didn´t solve the problem.
I had the Itunes from Turkey, but a confirmation number from Portugal. Yesterday when try to login in my itunes give me lock account.
I did contact supoort again and they said me that my account don´t follow the condictions of Apple/Itunes Policies.

i would like to create another account with another email, but i don´t know how to do skip to the radar of Apple, since i´m not in Turkey.
Should i use a temporary SMS verification number from Turkey?

I just use Itunes because Apple Music, but i don´t have Apple equipmensts.

With the old account, when need i login in Itunes, i use always the VPN with Turkish location, but sometimes send me a verification code to my Portuguese phone when i use a new equipement.
It´s possible not use the verification by phone?

    Thanks,

    MigasMike

My Spotify just went through today

  • +1

Mine Netflix payment just processed yesterday. I think Oldubil is working on getting the Passport verification for the foreigners to continue using their cards. They may have a huge pool of anonymous users which they don't want to get rid of. finger crossed

  • +1

My apple account got deducted today. So both spotify and apple have worked as usual. Netflix due mid month, so ill update when that date comes around.

    • Your verification phone is outside Turkey? Thanks.

  • My Spotify payment failed today for Oldubil, any workaround at the moment?

    • but others are going through, can you try again?

      • Yes I did, multiple times actually. I am using a turkey vpn too, Im just getting payment failed. Not sure what to do, If anyone wants to let me use their oldubil card for my spotify I can payid or we can work something out.

        • have also switched on turkey vpn and tried reentering the card but still getting payment failed.
have emailed oldubil alerting them of this, we'll see how it goes.

          • @tobia: Please keep me updated!

            • @metaphex: Looks like recently oldibill stopped spotify Netflix transaction

              • @Zeee: Pre-existing Netflix direct debit agreements via Oldubil are going through successfully. Mine just went through yesterday.

            • @metaphex: here is the reply:

              Hello,

You can only shop from secure e-commerce pages.

              Best regards

              • @tobia: So spotify is not secure e-commerce according to their reply? Others have had successful debits except ours it seems. Very frustrating. Did you send them a reply?

                • @metaphex: There might be some loss in translation happening. In their first comms they sent out, they indicated:

anonymous cards can only be used on Turkish websites with a trust seal.

Here's the link of "trust sealed" websites.

              • @tobia: @tobia @reivaxX

Just tried processing payment again by updating details through link received in email and having vpn turned on, went through smoothly. Try again!

                • +1

@metaphex: @metaphex tried updating payment again as you soon but didn't work..
nevertheless, got an email saying payment has gone through 🤷‍♀️
i guess we'll reassess next month

    • I had payment failure and then reached out to Spotify support via chat. They said I might have exceeded the max number of payment attempts.

They ended up cancelling my plan and told me to re subscribe after 24 hours, which worked for me. They might have cleared some payment attempt issue but they didn’t say anything specifically.

I ended up buying a 12 month prepaid premium as who knows what is going to happen with OlduBil

      • Just wondering about the 12 month prepaid premium was this on an individual account and how much was it? Thanks

        • +1

Yep it was an individual one. It’s a bit of a process to find it. You have to click on “more payment options” on the individual plan page. See if this link works https://www.spotify.com/tr-en/plan/individual/

          It was 399TRY

Are Revolut transfers to Oldubil still working, or need to use Wise now?

    • +1

They haven't been working for the better part of a month at the very least.

  • +1

I just started the original guide 2 days ago. I used wise and set up oldubil. I also used UrbanVPN chrome extension. I got payment failure all day yesterday, but today I added it as a saved card for payment first, and that went through fine. Then I purchased a 12mo and that went through too. Good luck!

  • +2

I never got any of these warnings/alerts about this restriction coming in. This thread is the first I'm hearing of it.

I got a payment failure on my Spotify Family last night, so I went into my account settings this afternoon, re-entered my CVV number, and it went through.
Spotify is reinstated and there's a transaction record on my Oldubil account for 64.99TRY.

Just had a message from the OlduBil app saying "Money transfers are BACK!" and claiming the "temporary issue" is now resolved.

I transferred money in a few days ago via Wise without an issue but I don't know if it means Revolut international transfers are now working again ?

    • Not sure what issue is resolved

    • did you follow Part 2a from this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/784047 ?

      • Yes, that's exactly what I followed. I did it using Chrome on my desktop - no VPN.

    • +1

Transferred via Wise 2 days ago and still nothing in my account. What was the wait time?

      • +1

Probably around 12 hours. Set up and sent the transfer on Monday the 9th and it arrived in the OlduBil account on the morning of Tuesday the 10th.

      • +2

I had 3 transfers via wise only 1 went through.

Emailed [email protected] with the wise transfer receipt and it was sorted within a day.

    • Can I ask what details you used please.
I sent some to wise a while back but never went through.

      • +1

As I mentioned above, I followed part 2a of the linked guide. Didn't do anything different.

        • Trying this myself! Will see if anything happens tonight.

  • +2

    My payment failed today.
Have enough balance in my Oldubil account
Cancelled family plan and tried to sign up to a new plan
    No change
God knows what’s going on as some of you have had good luck in the last 24 hours
I hate not having premium Spotify
    Lol

    • +1

      same here

    • Same issue with me. I just change the plan to free plan and wait for 24 hrs

After that, try to resubscribe to one year prepaid plan for 399 and put the Oldubil again and it is successful. Also with VPN on

  • Today i subscive the Spotify for 1 year.
With the Oldubil failed the payment, but with the FUPS card works without problem.

    • Fups not working I heard… need Turkish ID now to sign up.

      • You can see here https://ibb.co/zQdYShF the proof.

        • +1

It’s not that am not believing you, it’s just that new accounts cannot be created on FUPS. Your lucky you got in.

  • Is transfer from revolut working?

  • +2

I just made a transfer from Wise to Oldubil (Garanti) to top up. Will see if it comes, if not will try emailing directly.

    • let us know how you go… if Spotify continues to work, I will probably need to top up next month.

    • Updates?

      • +1

Just checked now and can confirm I have received the funds on Oldubil! At the same time, it looks like Spotify has charged me too which is good.

        • Awesome! Looked like a one day turnaround?

          • @woonz: Mine appeared in Oldubil after 6 hours or so.

            • @76F: Got mine earlier today yay

  • Nervously waiting to see if spotify payment will work on the 26th…

    • Mine just went through today 16/10/23 without issue.

      • Just got an email saying my payment failed.
Did you do anything to get the payment through?
        Should we be on VPN?

        • No. This was a subscription set up months ago before all of this drama. I did nothing, I was waiting to see if the payment would automatically process like usual - and it did.

          • @TimmyShooterB: Ah yeah mine has been set up few months ago but the payment just didn't get through this time, sad day :(

  • +1

Made a transfer from Wise to Oldubil yesterday. Successfully came through today.

    • +2

Which bank did you go through? I used Garanzi and had to email them to get it.

      • +1

Good question - I actually don't know as I just used the "Repeat this transfer" function in Wise. For what it's worth, it's the IBAN starting in TR97.

      • I used Garanti few days ago and came today directly with no contact needed. This may possibly be due to the recent announcement they made about allowing transfers?

        • Strange. I did try Garanti about a month ago too and both times same thing, I had to email. Wonder what I'm doing wrong.

      • Wise/Garanti worked for me today. No email needed.

    • Just did another transfer from Wise to Oldubil (my first transfer/post was a small test one). Landed in my Oldubil account <5 mins after pressing transfer.

      • So you did artifak? Since your IBAN starts in TR97?

        • Yep that's the one - TR97 0014 3000 0000 0003 0484 87.

          • @insano: Ahhh I did Garanti. Fingers crossed.

            • @woonz: do you need to convert AUD to TRY inside Wise and send TRY , or just pay as AUD?

              • @battler: Convert to Lira and send lira

                • @bbourizk: transferred AUD (didn't convert to Lira) this morning.
Wise said 'we do IBAN transfers at 5pm' or something similar. Checked 5.20pm, funds in Oldubil.
                  (Used TR97 artifak)
                  Paid for Premium at 5.30pm.

                  • @battler: nice mate
I used granati yesterday and nothing has showed.
will try TR97 and see how that goes

        • I don't even get TR97 as an option on mine. I have the other 2 banks that start with A but neither is it.

  • Revolut does not allow transfer to Garanti (just tried), specifically saying transfer to its IBAN is not allowed. So maybe it's time to get Wise…
