Oldubil Cracking down Overseas Accounts and Won't Let U Use Their Card for Turkey Purchases. What to Do for Spotify Renewal?

Oldubil warned about changes to the rules for anonymous cards and recommended "using the balance before today evening"
It is still unclear what will happen to the purchase Spotify.

On October 2, 2023, the Turkish payment system Oldubil sent a warning to customers that anonymous cards can now only be used on Turkish websites with a trust seal. One of the first to notice this was user darios13 from the PlayStation community on DTF.

According to the regulation issued by the Central Bank of Turkey, anonymous cards can only be used on Turkish websites with a trust seal. We recommend that you use your balance before tonight. We will keep you informed.

Oldubil advised customers to use their balance “until tonight”, that is, until October 3, 2023. The company said it would share details in the future.

Some Russian residents use the Oldubil payment system to buy games in Turkey on the PS Store, Microsoft Store and Steam. How the policy change will affect them is unclear.

I still have around 300 Lira sitting just for Spotify renewals, I am not sure what would happen to it? Anyone can help?

Mine did 2 days ago for a subscription that was set up months ago - no changes

Mne went through successfully yesterday from the looks of it.

    Spotify Family

Oldubil with Australian phone number - unverified

  • I dont have oldubil account yet. Do they now require providing IDs to setup hence all these issues?

  • I've just had my Spotify payment fail at 14:03, unable to pay via Oldubil with 326lira in my account. Have tried with and without VPN with neither working. If anyone has a fix please let me know!

    • In the same boat

    • I was able to pay for a duo plan just now, monthly only couldn't do yearly but it worked

    • +1

you need to revert you plan back to free plan and remove your oldubil virtual card. Then when for 24 hours until their payment system clearing.

Then try to subcribe again using your oldubil virtual card

Also this is done with VPN on

Also better to subscribe 1 yr plan so less hasssle if they crack down again in next couple of months

  • same couldn't pay spotify with my oldubil virtual card …

    • I buy one year of Spotify Premium, but was reject by Oldubil virtual card and i had to pay with my FUPS virtual card without issues.

    • New direct debit or existing direct debit?

      • New direct debit

  • Had 3 successful existing direct debits go thru since this thread started. (Spotify, apple netflix).

My YouTube premium just went through from pre-existing subscription. Also successfully added some funds using wise and garanti bankasi app like normal, didn’t need to email them.

Made a transfer from Wise to Oldubil today for TRY 2298.05 via VakifBank (what I used before) and processed within 16 minutes. Was charged TRY 213.72 fee from Oldubil…

    • A $12 fee on a $130 transfer…..?? 🤔

      • Not sure why the down vote. The exchange rate calculation is correct and it's a genuine question 🤷🏻‍♂️

      • +2

Oldubil has a 9.3% fee on incoming transfers.

It's kind of high but compared to paying the normal Australian price it's still a lot cheaper.

It would be cheaper to pay in TRY using an Australian card but that's not possible in most cases.

        • +1

ohh no wonder… thought the fee was 3-4% from Oldubil

          • +3

@Classical: It was increased from 6.25% on 18/07/23

          • @Classical: This was also my understanding… I couldn't figure out the maths. I planned on opening up a WISE account so I could transfer the money to my Oldubil VCC but I didnt recall the fee being that high.

    • Do you also get a fee from Wise?

      • +2

        yeah TRY 24.34 from WISE

        • So just to confirm… you were charged TRY 213.72 (~$12 AUD) fee from Oldubil and TRY 24.34 (~$1.36 AUD) fee from WISE?

All on a ~$128 AUD transfer into your Oldubil VCC?

          • +1

            @KangaDrew: Yes that’s correct…

            fyi didnt downvote you

          • +3

@KangaDrew: The 213.72 TRY fee charged by Oldubil is a standard fee to top-up foreign accounts.

It used to be 6.25%, but it increased on 18 July due to "global operations cost increased".

            • @reivaxX: Cheers. I didn't realise it had increased so I must have missed a memo somewhere. If it's a flat fee, I reckon I'll wait for my 5 months worth of Netflix credit to get burnt off slowly and then send a max transfer to Oldubil via Wise (in order to save some money on those flat rate fees).

              Thanks for the info!

              • +1

@KangaDrew: The fee from Wise to Oldubil is a flat 24.34 TRY fee, irrespective of the amount transferred. Then Oldubil charge 9.3% of the amount received as a fee.

So, I recently initiated a transfer of 1730 TRY from Wise to Turk Elektronik. Wise deducted its fee of 24.34 TRY, such that 1,705.66 TRY was ultimately transferred. Then, Oldubil deducted a fee of 158.63 TRY (~9.3% of the 1,705.66 TRY it received), so that ultimately I ended up with 1,547.03 TRY in my Oldubil account.

        • +2

          Thanks for answering.

I also got a 24.34 TRY fee from Wise on a 386 TRY transfer. So it seems to be a flat fee.

          • @lorikeet: Seems that way based on the above. Best if I send over larger sums in one transfer then, in order to maximise the value moving forward. Just need to wait for Netflix credit to get used :-)

        • You can avoid these fees by using Binance p2p.
Sell USDT for TRY, for payment method use OlduBil.
Since this is card to card transfer, you can avoid Wise fees and OlduBil will charge 3.5% for 1000TL or over.

          • @SJ50: Are you able to explain a little more? I thought Binance blocked transfer from AUD? Thank you

            • @Classical: I use Binance. You can still pay using card or google pay. Both options charge about 4.8% fee which makes it a bit more dear. Currently the USDT is $1.58 but with the fee, it makes it $1.66 each.

When you use P2P, you can use many options like OSKO, payid, wise, revolut etc. The cheapest P2P option is currently $1.60 with a minimum purchase of $100.

seems its probably the end now, I am trying to make a transfer but now I have a message saying I cannot if I don't register a +90 phone number. I am going to make a 1$ transfer just to check

    • I'm unsure where you're transferring from, but if you're specifically mentioning the "transfer money" tab and the "transfer money to Oldubil" option, this option was never available if you registered using an Australian number.

Seems like the working options at the moment are transfers via Wise or Binance P2P

      • I always used Wise to oldubil but this morning I had a message saying I need a number starting by +90 to receive money, and it didn't allow me to go next step and see the available bank transfer. 2 hours later, the message was gone. I did a transfer this morning , 1 AUD , and will see if it succeed.
My guess is that they are preparing the new rule to be applied, and then, only account with Turkish numbers will be allowed to make transfers.

        • Fingers cross it was just a once off error

          • @reivaxX: my 2 AUD transfer to oldubil went trough . so now, I don't know what to do :
            - continue as before : but im 100% they are going to change the rule and only allow users with Turkish number to continue. I am 100% the message I got was just a test, it was just not supposed to be deployed yet
            - make a big transfer before its blocked again , so my subscriptions can continue at least for one year, until another option is found. But what happen if they also block payments even if you have the money ?

            • @Nasser67: I personally are making small transfers ongoing to make sure that when they do block payments for renewals, there isn't a huge balance that I lose out on.

I guess it depends on your risk appetite, but even if there is that rule in place, there is still the Binance P2P option.

    • You can top up your apple acc with oldubil cc. This is before they did crackdown.

    Spotify payment failed :(

    Family plan

Tried to reenter details, didnt work :(

  • It seems like Oldubil have now actually implemented the restrictions they mentioned earlier in the month: https://old.reddit.com/r/steamregionaltricks/comments/17gz9a…

I tried buying an Xbox game a few hours ago ago but got a message which translates as: 'Choose a different payment method. We were unable to obtain authorization for this purchase. Choose a different payment method or contact your payment provider.' The same card had worked with no issues last week.

    • I got the same error. I contacted Oldubil. Here's their response:

By the regulation issued by the Central Bank of Türkiye, anonymous cards can only be used on trust seal
Turkish websites. Anonymous accounts can purchase ePins within the application using the balance in their wallet.

You can reach all trust seal Turkish websites the link that is below.

      https://www.guvendamgasi.org.tr/view/guvendamgasi/gdalan.php

We continue to work to enable our foreign customers to verify their accounts with their passports. We recommend that you do not cancel your account during this process.

Looks like we have to wait for an update from Oldubil.

  • Okay we need actual alternatives now, what can we use to pay for Spotify monthly now?

    • There are "actual alternatives" - gift cards.

      • Are there sites for Spotify Gift cards available for Turkey single plan?

      • +1

Gift cards dont work for family plans unfortunately

        • Ehhh… that's a bummer :-(

  • Help. My spotify payment just failed. What options do I have now to pay for Turkish family plan? I have scouring ozb but I can't see anything that could work

    • Open a FUPS account.

      • New FUPS account requires turkish ID. So it is no longer viable

        • But what about current active FUPs account, still viable?

    • I will try this step when Spotify turkey decides to boot me from the family plan
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/790069

    • I heard ininal works with a foreign passport

  • Last night and today all purchases on Turkey iTunes, Turkey Disney+ and Turkish Spotify ended with the message that the payment was declined or failed.

At this point, I highly doubt even subbing to Spotify with Google and Oldubil will work for me.

    • Luckily D+ comes from my Aus CC. But alas, I'm about to lose Spotify.

  • My spotify family failed today, couldn't get oldubil card to work again :( I might have to change the account back to Australia and pay the non-ozbargain way again

  • Transaction rejected by Oldubil and no FUPS account, Argentina and Brazil requires ID on check out.

    What's the alternative?

  • +2

Thanks to OZBers who posted those reddit links about this issue. If you still have funds on Oldubil and want a way to use them quickly, you can use E-pin opportunities in the app to exchange for Turkey currency based gift card. if you have an Apple iPhone or iPad, I "think" iTunes Turkey card(s) might be a good choice (since you could technically still use that to subscribe to youTube Premium). To do that, you need:

    • An Apple iTunes account set to Turkey region
    • A fake Turkey phone number (google for one)

Once you used the E-pin option in the app and purchased an iTune card, redeem on your iPhone/iPad as quickly as possible.

    • Thank you, Netsurfer! That’s a great advice. I had TL1370 in OlduBil as like many did 2 transfers (one from Wise and then another one from Revolut) but only used half of the credit for the Xbox Game Pass. Tried to purchase the Turkish iTunes Gift Cards from Turgame using the OlduBil virtual credit card and failed. But with the E-Pin option I was able to convert the credit on OlduBil to Turkish iTunes Gift Cards (TL250, TL100 and TL1000) and soon as I received then in the email I redeemed them in the AppStore Turkey. There was no admin or conversion fee either as there is a fee with Turgame purchase so even better.

  • I've got a Google acct for (Turkey) D+
Has anyone tried using Odubil E-pin to purchase Google Play Store Digital Codes… and redeemed in Play Store successfully?

    • Perhaps try one with 25 Turkish Lira (~$1.40 AUD) to see if if works first.

    • Any updates on this Snoop, on Reddit others could not redeem the gift cards even with VPN and Turkish payment profile. Have you had any luck?

    • can redeem but cannot use the gift card. Does anyone figure out how to?

    • No, unfortunately not.
Tried VPN, switching account country, using a different account that's set up in Turkey, different devices, etc. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Only other thought, if you want to use up the money sitting in your Oldubil account, use it on eBay, as per comment here…
Doesn't help with Spotify, but at least most of your money is getting spent.

  • What's next given Oldubil no longer works? Does Method #1 via Google Pay (linked here - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/790069) still work?

    • +1

I've swapped to this deal until the Oldubil issue is resolved:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/809194

    • I'm just a little concerned it'll stuff up my Disney+ if I try mucking around to get Spotify on there too!

  • anyone worked out what a ' Turkish websites with a trust seal' site is - anyway of using the last bits of turkish Lira

ideally some kind of gift cards that can be used elsewhere would be ideal

  • Sent money to oldubil, it shows up in transaction history but it's not appearing in my available funds. Can anyone help me please?

    • What did you use to send it?
My last one I use granati bank from wise and it didn't show up after a few days.
Emailed them with the receipt and then the money showed up

      • Yeah just did the same. Thank you for the response

  • Anyone know if its working for ps store? Not working on xbox store apparently.

  • My payment to Spotify family failed twice in last week, tried updating OlduBil again failed. Tried using Revolut with vpn on or off failed too.

    Not sure what to do.

    • Ininal?

      • +1

Has anyone used Ininal for spotify here? Can you share how to do it?

  • Is granati bank working or nah?

  • My Spotify payment has just failed for the first time. Anyone found a work around without getting me and my mates overseas to go through the minefield of VPNs all over again?

    • Same here, and I thought paying using Oldubill card was all OK.. Need a workaround now…

      • I don't think there is one for Turkey anymore. FUPS (i've never used this) apparently doesnt work for new users either…

        • I have tried all options. They all need a Turkish ID to sign up now. Ininal apparently allow you to sign up with a foreign passport but my application got rejected somehow on the basis that my details didn't match.

          • @firestint: Is inial legit? I hate doing application with sending id esp to country like turkiye..

    • Same here. Had worked for the automatic payment for Apple, Netflix and Spotify last month. But Spotify just failed. Will report back what happens to the other two subscriptions.

  • has anyone been able to 'use' their odubil card?

i tried to add Apple funds to my Turkish ID and it didnt go through, and it declined when buying from websites like G2A and Turgame

need help to spend my Lira's!

  • +1

I'm now back to basic Spotify too after Oldubil payment method for Premium has been compromised. Will follow this thread to see future workaround.

We are possibly travelling to Türkiye in a few months (if the war doesn't spread), so hopefully can use my Oldubil virtual Visa card there?

  • Had oldubil pulled netflix epin giftcard from the app? :(

    • Ok netflix giftcard back on e-pin. Used up my credits only have 113 try left. Guess I'll have netflix for the next 10 months or so lol

  • My spotiify payment was also denied today. Hoping someone comes up with a solution how to use Oldubil funds and posts it here.

  • I noticed a few people mentioning FUPS as a alternative service but it has an issue of not without a Turkish ID anymore.
I have a friend from Turkey and wanted to know, if they just give me their ID number and I open the account (I don't know if this would be enough) or they open a FUPS account themselves and use it to pay for a Turkish family plan, would that work? Would I need anything else other than this?
Everyone mentioned issues with Oldubil but I am not convinced that FUPS would work if it is created and setup now.

  • +2

Thanks guys had some money left on Oldubil and was able to use it up via E-pin on Netflix gift cards. Even though it asks for Turkish phone number, it is not required, only need to type in your email address and gift cards are sent there. Pretty good way to buy turkish netflix gift cards

    • They sell spotify gift cards as well but they are USD gift card. Can you buy them and use for Turkey Spotify? Eg US$10 is TL$290. If you buy that for instance, does it equate to TL$290 (eg 6mths individual premium is TL$239, so would you be able to use the US$10 card for that)?

      • USA Spotify gift cards cannot be used to buy a plan at Turkish prices.

  • I have a family account. Got a message saying payment failed using oldubil virtual card. Thought it would be easier to move it back to AU but can't work out how to. When I attempt to update payment details I get an error saying the country doesn't match. When I change country it wants to put me on an individual account. Any tips?

      1. cancel the subscription
      2. Go into profiles https://www.spotify.com/au/account/profile/ and change country at the bottom to Australia (it may be set to Turkey), save it
      3. Try paying again
      4. ??
      5. Profit
      • Thanks, worked. Had to set up the family share again. Any known way to drain the remaining balance of oldubil? Tried to load up apple but it doesn't work anymore.

        • +1

Found a way if you go to "E-pin opportunities", you can buy Itunes gift cards. At least that money isn't wasted.
