      What

      • +1

while i do think a lot of the jetstar hate is overblown, this sort of thing is a pain in the butt and does happen (im yet to have the return flight moved to before i fly out though!)

        • I have also absolutely been giving the benefit of the doubt. Then had my flight from ADL - BNE cancelled (only two direct per day) so have had to go via Sydney. Still not enough for me to post the blacklisted comments I always see, but is definitely now in the back of my mind for future purchases.

    • +2

Strange. Took 4 Jetstar flights in the last 2 weeks, all were good :-/

      • And that's the reality - the vast majority of flights leave on time without delays, but people still keep beating the "Jetstar bad" dead horse even though in the last few months their on time performance and cancellation rate has been better than both Qantas and Virgin.

        • +2

even though in the last few months

Maybe because people expect more than a few months of decent service? I've had 3 flights cancelled this year already, the last one was just last month.
So yeah, Jetstar deserve the terrible reputation they have.

        • I disagree. Almost every flight I take these days gets chopped and changed. Not just Jetstar.

        • Doesn't Jetstar have the highest OTD rate? (EDIT: Just checked, it's actually Rex!) I believe Virgin is pretty low but you NEVER see people complain about it even though every single flight I've been on from Perth to Melbourne has been delayed by an hour, and I fly them semi frequently. Never have my Qantas flights been delayed so consistently.

    • +4

According to the ABS, Jetstar International has a lower cancellation rate and delay rate than Virgin Australia

    • +3

Sydney International airport has a 11pm-6am curfew, so I call BS on your claim that Jetstar are flying out at 4am ;)

    • +2

Isn't the airport code SGN? Not HCM?

      • +4

Yes, it is definitely SGN (Saigon)

    • Departing on the 5th, arriving back on the 7th. I hope you enjoy cavity searches.

  • Can't see these pr ices..

@pyramid: From Sydney or Melbourne? From Sydney - June 2 - June 9 is working at $312, from Melbourne June 5 - 12 at $306. Just found those now so they are definiitely there!

                • @CheapFlightHunter: Thanks ..from Melbourne…

                  • +2

                    @pyramid: June 5-12 @ $306. That is a sweet bargain.
Dates are only in early June for these.

@CheapFlightHunter: Thanks….how are hotel prices in Ho Chi Minh City. And how difficult or easy to visit Cambodia from there..

                      • +1

@pyramid: I'm sure you can Google that yourself?

@HandsomeMonkey: Yes I can..but never been to that part of world so asking question to get info from more knowledgeable people here…

                          • @pyramid: Sorry, I only know about flights. I like booking.com for accom though

                          • +1

@pyramid: Yeah so Google would be best for something like that. Check out Cambodia or Vietnam Reddit. There are a lot of information about travelling to the countries. I recommend you do the 3 ex French colonies Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. Starts from Vietnam since it's cheap to fly to Vietnam right now then catch bus or fly to Cambodia (roughly USD50 -100) and take a boat or ferry to Laos. Try and spend about 1 to 2 weeks per country.

                        • +2

@HandsomeMonkey: No, he's used up his Google searches for the day.

@pyramid: Hotels cheap. Ez one hour flight to siem reap. Just sort your visas out online beforehand.

  • Delay and delayed

    These are one way fares

    • These are return fares.

"FYI the Club Jetstar presale is on right now, the public sale starts at midnight tonight."

Deal starts at midnight then or is targeted.

    • +1

Dam this shoudl also apply to all eBay Plus deals? All targeted as they are only for eBay Plus

  • +1

Fly into hcm then take another flight to Siem reap and go see Angkor kingdom

    • But you have to buy vietnam visas.

    • There are other options.

There are four border crossings in the south. Many take a bus from HCMC to Phnom Penh on the main one. It's a budget option.

I crossed once from Ha Tien on the west coast. Just get a xe om (motorbike taxi) and they drive you across stopping to get the visa on arrival.

Or people take a tour by boat up the Mekong.

Just a heads up. The cab rank at Saigon is a bloodbath free for all. If you can do it book a private pickup driver ahead of time.

    • +1

The cab rank at Saigon is a bloodbath free for all

      Tell us more. Sounds exciting

      • +1

Too many people and not enough cabs. As soon as a cab drives up to the rank it gets swarmed by people before the cab even stops.

People open the doors while its still rolling to a stop or just stand in front of the cab to stop it.

    • +1

I was there last week. Unlimited drivers and not enough passengers. Don't know what you're on about

      • +1

Don't know what you're on about

So supply and demand are fluid?

        Who knew!

          • @belongsinforums:

ah i can see youve been to ho chi minh recently. please give us your expertise

Unlike you, visiting a place once or twice doesn't make me an expert. However since you asked, when I was there a few months ago it was hectic. I sometimes use Saigon as a transit for other parts of Asia, and each time it has been different. This applies to every airport/station/wharf/bus stop I've ever been. Imagine that…

            • @1st-Amendment: Worst case scenario you take the bus. The metro should fix a lot of the traffic issues when it opens

    • +1

Flown in numerous times and have just booked a grab (same as uber here). You don't even need a simcard, just download the app and book it from your phone inside the terminal. Without a sim the only issue you might have is looking for the car on the app while standing outside as the wifi sometimes won't reach. Having a sim is a bit easier.

      • eSIM services in Vietnam has been rolled out for a long time. You can buy an eSIM and activate it once you arrive at the airport, you can keep your physical Australian sim on at the same time for banking, SMS, etc.

        • I do that, but I prefer to go to a proper mobifone store in the city and let them do it. The ones at the airport in my experience always try and rip you off.

    • Just get an e-sim prior to arrival (if your phone supports it) and book a grab, it has worked flawlessly every time for me.

    • +1

FYI, if you are taking the taxi, make sure the meter is on and check the maps for distance. Some drivers would drive around just to get some extra money.
If you using rideshare, go down the parking basement, locate yourself and text/call your driver to let them know which sides/row are you standing. If you found your driver, wave aggressively so they could see you. Rideshare drivers only allow for 2 mins pickup only so if you are not familiar with it, they probably gonna cancel the ride.

Same thing happened to me Mel to HCM, Jetstar changed my flight from direct to via Sydney. Not what I signed up for at all. I managed to change the dates to get direct but this involved an extra day of leave.

I've been cancelled Mel to Syd at short notice in July on Jetstar and put on a later flight (delayed by 90 mins) eating up a big chunk of my weekend.

Similarly a Qantas rewards flight from London to LAX on BA was cancelled 6 hours before travel last month. Had to wait 5 hours in LAX on the replacement flight.

You need to build a lot of flexibility in your plans these days, the airline's don't even bother to explain cancellations any more.

  • got massively different prices, even when selecting dates.

The whole airline industry is a giant scam

    • Are you a Club Jetstar member? If not, these prices go live at midnight for the public sale.

      • Yeah, I'm a club member and saw great prices at first, but then even changing the dates within the range of booking causes the flights to double or triple in price, even on mid week days.

I think I'm just a bit cranky today and yesterday.

        • You can see club price when you choose date and go next step

        • +2

I get it, I am also mad at the airline industry :) Hurry up and bring back ALL the cheap flights.

    • got massively different prices, even when selecting dates.
      giant scam

So Woolworths is a giant scam because they have massively different prices depending upon sale dates?

Buying petrol is a giant scam?

      Uber is a giant scam?

McDonalds is a giant scam due to their promotions?

Airlines can have low margins so if you don't like it, then it is what it is.

  • Don't care about delays as long as it's cheap.

Is the membership worth it or do those prices show up normally?

    • +1

The membership basically means you get a better chance of getting these prices and the dates you want. Some of the seats on the sales are quite limited. You also get 20% off checked bags and other extras. It's $55/year FYI

  • Are those prices including taxes?

    • yes those are total prices

  • Would you be able to see if there's any flights for about a week long in March or April from Melbourne to Ho Chi Minh? Thank you!

  • Good luck ever getting there or home with jet💩

    • Have travelled few times international with jets in last 9 yrs , always on time..

      • I had one overnight stay in Narita because of a plane problem about 10 years ago. Other than that, not a problem.

      • Have travelled few times international with jets in last 9 yrs , always on time..

We had our departure flights cancelled 3 times for our holidays last Xmas….

Maybe 5 years ago they were fine, but the last couple of years, they have been shocking…

  • ok as usual HIckville Perth misses out

  • how fast do these type of fares sell out if im flexible with dates?

    • They’re disappearing whilst you procrastinate. We just got $169 over and $135 back. Bargain just like the good old days

      • do they normally sell out within hours?

        • It really depends how many seats they release, and also how flexible you are with your dates

  • anyone else had issues with Jetstar charging you the full amount instead of the Club Jetstar amount?

flights were $1600, got hit for $3000.

    Bloody Jetstar

    edit-

Yes I have an existing Club membership

  • Would be a great deal to Ho Chi Minh except that the visas are so annoying and add extra cost, especially if using HCM as a layover.

  • MEL-SGN 05/06/2024 to 12/06/2024 seem to be sold out - was looking at those dates last night and they were $312 return, same search is returning $663 today. Can anyone confirm? Not sure if im looking right

    • +1

They are probably gone. They sell out quick at the lowest prices

    • +1

Still showing $306.44 for 1 adult

      • Could you please share the link if that’s alright? Can’t find it for the life of me :)

        • +1

          https://booking.jetstar.com/au/en/booking/baggage

          It's not generating special link

Ho Chi Minh City to Melbourne
          Wednesday 12 June 2024 $137

          • @pyramid: seems they are releasing new seats as they come, says sold out again on my end. Tis painful being the mate organising the trip whilst uni is on haha

    • Are you sure? I thought they don't sale over school holiday?
