  • Appears to be extremely limited stock - are there any stores that have any?

    • Saying zero stock from what i can see.

    • Free shipping on orders over $99. Quite a few Brisbane stores are showing it as being in stock.

        Not anymore
Went all the way to Lismore, all oos

May be they want to discontinue as EGO quality is dropping.

    • +1

      Based on?

I thought that Select cut mowers, zero turns and higher flow blowers have all been exceedingly well received by market and reviews…

      • +2

Had no issues with mine. Although those happy tend not to make as much noise as those who have had any issues

        • +2

Yeah interested to know where this is coming from. Very happy with my ego products

            • +3

@Wiser: Guess I’m one of the lucky ones.

Have a shed full of the gear and never had an issue with a single tool or battery.

Some of the customer service stories sound concerning, but I’ve got to say, the one and only time I had cause to reach out to Ego Australia, they went above and beyond.

              Very clearly, YMMV…

          • +2

@oohaah: 2 faulty blowers, 1 mower, 4 batteries and 1 line trimmer all within 18 months.

Many people having lots of problems with their stuff.

            Never again.

        • +1

I've had a battery fail just within warranty, no issues getting it replaced (came the next day).

The Australian warranty service seems to be sub-contracted to a company that does repairs for a few brands (https://www.installandfix.com/) and were efficient whereas most of the reviews on TP seem to be USA based.

Great for me but YMMV like everything.

      • +1

Previous posts here and elsewhere seem consistent that the tools are great. But the batteries and service seem to have gone steeply downhill.

        Batteries failing.
Service on warranty and repairs issues.
        Etc.

Your mileage may vary. I don't own any. Just what I've been reading.

        • -2

          Bold claim.

          Bold unsupported claim.

          Trevor will be ropable…

      • +9

Reviews and real world usage are 2 different things. Most reviews are paid for for starters.

2 faulty blowers, 1 mower, 4 batteries, 1 line trimmer, all within 18 months.

Speak to the local repair centres and they'll tell you they all have common problems. All the problems they have are problems you would expect from dodgy Chinese crap.

Mowers wiring breaks, main electrical assembly fails, and the switch inside falls out.

Self loading line trimmer has a piece of plastic that breaks that stops you from being able to load it and the only way to replace it is to replace the whole motor which is around $200. For a $2 piece of plastic

650 series blowers have dodgy electrics that blow the main motor and switches so when they go you have to replace the whole guts of it. Had mine replaced 3 times on one which eventually was refunded and had a second one refunded after the same thing happend

        Batteries are TRASH Google it

They are way over priced for what they are, junk.

For home use get Ryobi, for large properties or commercial go Makita.

Very bold statement but VERY factual.

        • +4

I agree. I know people like to bag Ryobi, but the fact that I can walk into Bunnings with a faulty tool and walk out again with a new one does it for me.

          Still run a petrol mower.

      • +1

I bought a 46cm mower with a 7.5ah battery about 3 months ago. As it was winter I've only used it maybe 6 times in that period.

The battery would stop charging at 3/5 bars no matter what I did.

I took the battery and charger into Total Tools, they played with it, said it was the battery and sent it off. Then the repair mob rang and said the battery is fine, send the charger.

Anyway, about 4 weeks after I dropped off the battery initially I got the replacement charger. Dont ask me why but they wont give you replacement stock from the store, has to get shipped specially to the store.

I'm not looking forward to having another warranty job. Compare that with Bunnings who swap on the spot.

        • +1

Which model? That sounds pretty ordinary for a new purchase…

          • @UncleRico: LM1903ESP is the mower. The charger is the latest fast charging model.

            • @fairbasa: Was it new or refurb?

The LM1903ESP is a 47cm mower which comes with a 5aH battery by default.

              • @UncleRico: New. I got them to swap the 5ah in the kit for the 7.5ah and just paid the difference.

The mower is fine (touch wood), it was the fast charger that was defective.

      • +2

I've got batteries and equipment from when Masters (9 years ago) shut up shop. Not a single item has failed. The 2.5ah from back then are a bit weak but all the equipment I still have works.

I upgraded the blower and lawn mower, bought the commercial pole saw, and they are unbelievably good. Still zero faults.

The only tool I have direct comparison with Makita is the pole saw. It was chalk and cheese, the EGO was better in every single way imaginable by orders of magnitude. I'm not saying Makita make bad products, but I fail to see how anyone can compare them favourably in the garden care department.

    • -1

May be they want to discontinue as EGO quality is dropping.

If I did not have an EGO I would not be here tonight.
If I did not have an EGO I might not think that I was right.
If you did not have an EGO you might not care the way you dressed.
If you did not have an EGO you'd just be like the rest…

    • -1

100% agree. Batteries are garbage and die all the time. I've been though a few of them. Tools are trash as well.

For home use your better off with Ryobi and for commercial or larger properties Makita.

You'll get lots of down votes by fanboys unfortunately.

      • -1

LOL @ “Better off with Ryobi…”

Sounds like you really know your tools…

        • +2

Ryobi is a 5 year REPLACEMENT warranty, ego is a 5 year repair warranty. You can be without your mower for 2 MONTHS

Ryobi is fine for HOME USE.

I know tools and I know what it's like to be without them. You obviously don't know how to read.

Good luck waiting for your repair.

          • -2

            @Mozzmanau: What repair, master reader?

Why are you so angry at everyone who manages to operate their tools and batteries without breaking them?

            • @UncleRico: You sound like the angry one who is trying to provoke and provide absolutely no value with your post. I'm commenting just to put you in your place. Cheers.

      • +1

You'll get lots of down votes by fanboys unfortunately.

If someone agrees with you, they are right, if they disagree with you, they are wrong and a "fanboy".

Remember, your experience trumps everyone else's experience, you are right, while everyone else is wrong.

    • +1

They have a whole new range of products inbound, just clearing old stock i'd say.

  • +3

$199 is the SydTools price for the 2.5ah battery on its own.

So free whippersnipper and free charger?

    • Essentially. I bought an earlier brushed line trimmer with 2Ah battery on sale years ago which worked out about the same vis-a-vis the price of a battery.

  • is this any good? there's heaps of variation of line trimmer skins

    • This is the base model, but its cutting arc of 13” is still great. And you’re basically getting the battery for free. The LT14xx, LT15xx and LT16xx models are bigger, but that or may not be a good thing depending on how handy you are with a straight shaft trimmer.

For anyone more accustomed to a bent shaft trimmer, this will likely be a big upgrade.

      • What is the upgrade if all it is is that the shaft is straight? (que the jokes)

        • It’s really just a matter of preference, but the common dichotomy is that bent shaft units tend to be smaller and lighter, whereas straight shaft tend to be heavier and have bigger cutting arcs.

I would have got a curved shaft model but Rgo don’t do any. You get used to a straight shaft after a while - and you’ll rarely see a groundsman or maintenance company use anything but a straight shaft - but they the learning curve is a little steeper.

          • +2

@UncleRico: I used a mate's ego trimmer and I didn't notice if it was bent or straight, but it got through the work so quickly that I didn't notice any difference apart from that it was much better

      • +1

Ryobi have a 36v range, not 40v. I know because I was in their ecosystem before making the upgrade to Ego.

Granted Ego’s 36v are much better than their 18v ONE range, but still feel and behave like plastic toys compared to Ego.

I’ve got a 52cm self propelled mower and the edger in the 36v Ryobi range. The edger is good, but the mower is far from fine for home usage, even when you set it at its ludicrously high minimum cut level - to say nothing of constant stalling and rickety plastic components. Neither can hold a candle to the Ego LM2135 or the Multi-tool with edger attachment.

Like Ozito, Ryobi are supported by great warranty service from Bunnings. But they are no comparison to proper yard tools like Ego.

        • Edit Typo - “Granted Ryobi’s 36v are much better than their 18v”

        • +2

In this regard; 36V & 40V are the same thing.

Some manufacturers list nominal voltage, some list maximum voltage

  • Great price for a great product

  • Interested in this, only have a small backyard, get this or wait for a better deal? Cheers

    • +3

Unlikely to get a better deal any time soon, but if it’s your intention to use this instead of a mower on a small yard, I’d be inclined to go with one of the bigger trimmers such as the 15” model with carbon fibre shaft, auto line feed and thicker line. Got mine on special a year ago when it came with two batteries - albeit will cost you more than double…

    • -1

      Hang onto your receipt

  • Im in the market to upgrade my old petrol line trimmer. I have Dewalt and Milwaukee gear. Anyone have experience with these brands in the garden range and how do they compare to the ego products? Thanks in advance.

    • +1

Friend's Milwaukee trimmer (not sure on model) has melted two of his M18 12ah batteries, but looking at reviews online it looks like the issue is with the battery not cooling adequately, more so than the trimmer. He was quite happy with the trimmers performance

    • +2

I wish I'd got ego years ago as they have everything you need in battery. I've always had Milwaukee tools so naturally I got the Milwaukee line trimmer, blower etc. Had to buy a petrol mower cause I wasn't forking out for an ego one and have different batteries. Milwaukee finally brought out a mower but the skin is 1200 bucks and it requires 2 x 12ah 18v batteries. The Milwaukee gear is fine but it's more expensive than the ego stuff.

  • +1

I use mine gear almost daily and 3x5ah and 3x2.5ah failed after 2 years, all got replaced under warranty. I even keep the batteries in an Esky when in the car I'm seriously thinking of going back to petrol.

    • My 2.5ah and 5ah failed after 3 years, too.

    • +2

Why so many of the smaller sizes? (honest question). I get that they are lighter, but lithium batteries don't like being run down to zero regularly. The drain is higher per individual cell than the larger batteries, where the load is shared across more cells.

I bought one of the big Ego zero turn mowers 18 months ago, it came with 4x 10ah batteries, and I bought a 5ah and a 12ah (the mower takes 6 batteries). I get a trimmer, blower, power broom and trimmer with blade.

I use the 5ah most of the time in the other implements, but I will use the big heavy 12ah if I have to do large jobs (eg 2hrs of trimming). Not one of the batteries or implements have had a single problem. I make sure not to run any of the batteries down to empty if I can avoid it.

  • +1

I bought the same EGO line trimmer in Feb 2021 with 5Ah battery & charger for $385 so this is a good price. Hasn’t skipped a beat. So far so good with the battery too. I also have another 2.5Ah battery. No problems there either so I guess YMMV per other people’s experiences.

    • +1

Ive had my trimmer and battery since Masters closed in 2016. Still going fine though I guess the battery isnt as good, its still enough.

  • +1

    Extremely tempting considering it's a 56v.
Anyone have experience with this one, and can comment on the comparison (power wise) between a petrol and this 56v trimmer?

Only thing holding me back is that I'd be acquiring yet another brand and eco-system of products, I currently have DeWalt and Ryobi. Trying (and failing) to keep everything within 1-2 eco-systems so I don't have a shit load of batteries……. that and a few concerning comments in this thread.

    • +1

Ryobi Dewalt Ozito bosch here. Its a little unavoidable if you buy stuff when you find out its for sale.

Just make sure you keep the batteries topped up.

    • I have the Dewalt hedge trimmer and blower which have been great. Just not sure about the line trimmer.

    • +3

I moved from a very powerful, semi commercial, but tricky to start and damn noisy Stihl trimmer to the best Ego trimmer, and I love it. No problems over the last 18 months. I do use the backpack with a 12ah battery if I need to do 2 hrs of trimming, which makes the setup just as heavy as the Stihl (but with more weight on my back). Most of the time I use the 5ah battery, which gets me 30-45min of trimming with a relatively lightweight unit, that is FAR quieter than the Stihl.

I also like the 42" zero turn, but it has limited run time, at max usage in long grass it won't make an hour of cutting. Regardless, I won't go back to petrol.

  • Got a call from Sydney Tools Midland WA and they said this model has been discontinued they wont be receiving any more stock. So they refunded me.

  • Has anyone received their order? (Delivery)

    • Not I. No corro either.

    • Nope. No call or email though…
I wish they'd give some sort of communication, so if they neg the order I can get one of the deals.

    • Ditto the other two. Not a thing.

    • Nope. I’ve called a few times and they refuse to check availability with their supplier until 2 weeks has passed.

      • I called back today and was told their policy is actually 14 business days, so they again refused to check with the supplier for an ETA until next week. It was like talking to a robot.

They did say they had over 60 on order so I expect they’ll have a few unhappy customers if it’s no longer available.

        • "They did say they had over 60 on order".

One order per OzBargain upvote. I'm not confident we'll be trimming our grass any time soon…

        • +1

I just got the call from them advising there is no stock and they are refunding my order. Infuriating!

          • +2

@Ze Bargain Hunter: Just received the email below - haven't yet decided how to proceed.

"In relation to the EGO ST1302E 56V 2.5Ah ARC-Lithium Cordless Brushless Power+ 330mm Line Trimmer Combo Kit, unfortunately we have exhausted our stock holding and the item is no longer available.

As a result of this, we are unable to fulfil your order. However, we are happy to offer the following model: ST1401E-ST

This kit is currently on promotion for $429 from $499, However as a gesture of our gratitude for your business with us we are happy to offer you this for $349.00.

If you would like to proceed with the exchange, there is a difference of $150.00.

We understand your frustration and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Please let us know how you would like to proceed."

            • +1

              @UncleRico: Same here

            • +2

@UncleRico: Yeah same. Was a steal at $200 but dunno if I'll bite at $350…

              • @merriweather: Yeah, it's not quite as appealing, especially when they've got the same kit, plus the LB5300 blower for $110 more, retail.

If they'd accept an increase of $150 + $110, that looks a better deal, albeit at a total spend of $459 compared to the original $199.

                Conflicted…

                • +1

@UncleRico: Worth emailing them about it. I was wondering the same thing about upgrading to a power head…

                  • @merriweather: Have done. Will report back with my findings.

I'm not confident. I half suspect the way that they justify the extra $80 discount, is by ordering the pack with the extra blower, and then omitting it from the discounted "upgrade" orders.

If there is a positive, the ST140x model does look superior with more resilient 2.4mm line vs the 2.0mm of the ST130x, comes with powerload, plus it has the adjustable telescopic shaft so is arguably more comfortable for shorter users. My other half doesn't like my ST150X with the foldable carbon shaft, saying it's too hard to control. But then, I suspect I may be at fault for subliminally training her to grow accustomed to a smaller shaft..

Not sure which Power Head pack / model you were looking at. I bought mine from Amazon with the edger attachment for $208 in arguably my best ever Ego bargain. https://sydneytools.com.au/product/ego-mfc1504e-56v-50ah-arc… looks amazing value at $1,369 especially when combined with the 2.5Ah battery redemption, but it's a fair leap from a baragin basement $199 trimmer…

                    • @UncleRico: how did you go about this? i tried negotiating as well, no luck from my end.

                      • @OneTrueTatsuya: No response to my email as yet. Presuming I don’t get a response today, I’ll pull the pin and take the refund.

                • +2

@UncleRico: The EGO ST1401E-STB (same as the substitute offered) has two batteries instead of one, but is only $40 more. I might see if they can do a deal on that. Always good to have a spare battery.

                  • @ilikeit: Yeah, that’s also a much better deal than the one offered, but I’ve got plenty of batteries.

My LB4800 irks me though, since it was the initial release and there’s now half a dozen more powerful models. Hence the appeal of the LB5300 deal, even though it’s only an incremental upgrade.

I doubt either of us will get a positive response though. And if that’s the case, I’ll just take the $199 refund.

              • @ilikeit: Wouldn’t offer me a reduction on the kit with the two batteries so I took the refund instead.

                  • @ilikeit: No reduction on the line trimmer and blower kit, so I took the refund as well.

Disappointing that it took them more than two weeks to figure it out. Would be interesting to know if the OP or anyone else received their original order.

Oh well, lesson learned - if it looks to good to be true… Have had nothing but good experiences with Total Tools, so shall revert future purchases to them.

                    • @UncleRico: This is a bargain, however, there's no Powerload head on it for quick loading the line. Notice it has the bigger battery. Cheaper than the rest by far.

                      What do you guys think?

                      • @ilikeit: I love the multi tool - especially with the edger attachment which is an absolute beast, but don’t have the line trimmer so can’t comment on how it performs. And power load is awesome…

I know it’s day and night for cost, but I think the best saving is the complete kit for $1249 or $600 off. https://www.totaltools.com.au/186607-ego-power-56v-brushless… It also qualifies for the free battery/line trimmer or hedger by redemption. Only concern with the multitool sales is that there must be a new, presumably better edition on the horizon since virtually all kits are heavily discounted.

                        • @UncleRico: Fortunately, that's more than required. I basically just need my mower and line trimmer. REALLY want the Powerload though…

I am actually just thinking of claiming the offer from ST. $350 is OK, and the smaller battery will do me.

                          • +1

@ilikeit: I’d probably go that way if I were you, especially if you don’t need the other attachments with the multitool. The ST140X is a tried and tested performer and $350 is the best price I’ve ever seen for it. I use the smaller 2.5Ah battery with my ST150X and never deplete it more than half way on two yards. The lighter weight also helps.

  • Received a call saying the same as above.
    Asked for the refund.

  • Bait and switch. No thanks

  • I'll just take the $80 as store credit.
