        • Sorry, where do you choose to live?

    • This comment is really insensitive. Languages are no jokes. And, frankly, subtitles are appropriation. Be better.

  • thanks OP. looking for next september so a bit early yet

      I know and the mods seem to be okay with that.

      It's like everyone wants to be a comedian these days despite having zero talent.

      I didn't see what the other guy wrote. I just reworded a joke I'd seen on Instagram or something. People seemed to put mine and whatever offensive remarks were made by the other guy in the same category

      • +3

        In my opinion your joke isnt funny, nor constructive

        • -1

          I didn't know irony (or jokes regardless of how "funny" they are) had to be constructive

    If I want to visit both Korea (South Korea) and Japan in the same holiday, perhaps ten days in each, what's the best way to arrange that to keep the airfares low?

      Low cost airlines on all legs, don't bother with return flights, just go Oz > Japan > Korea > Oz again. So out of Australia you could fly Jetstar to Japan, then some other budget airline to Korea (don't know the options off the top of my head, look up one way flights on skyscanner, google flights etc), then say Scoot to Singapore then back to Oz OR if Jetstar fly from Korea to Australia. Take only carry on, don't buy a single thing on the flights like luggage, food, seat selection, entertainment, don't miss your flights or change them whatsoever, buy travel insurance that includes 'resumption of journey' and 'cancellation costs' and build in lots of connecting time between flights.

      Book only during sale time. Don't go during hot periods (eg golden week, school holidays, Christmas etc), low periods are dependent per country. Feb generally low everywhere but then you have crap weather so up to you. Crap weather usually means less demand so cheaper flights EXCLUDING school and national holidays!

      That's just the basics, who knows if there's some cool regional pass thing u could try out.. that's all the tips I can give you in two minutes!

        Flying budget airline internationally is basically 💀

        • +1

          when you're asleep, all airlines are the same.

          unless you have trouble sleeping because of the arrangement of the airplane, i guess, or you're super tall or something.

          • +2

            @grumblerain: The assumption of everyone gonna be sleeping in the air is wild. Sure how long do you sleep for lol

            • @sauce2k: fair point. I do try to schedule my flights so that they occur during the night, so I can sleep through them, coz it's kinda boring otherwise.

              Nevertheless, even if the flight is during the day, it's just a trip. i refuse to pay ridiculous amounts to premium airlines for what is, basically, a service to get me from point A to point B. So yea, budget airlines internationally all the way D:

              I also buy second hand cars which are dented on all sides and scratched up horribly, because i can get them cheaper, because again, they're supposed to get me from point A to point B.

              P.S. this is prolly why i'm on OzB ;D

          • @grumblerain: Not true, economy seats are not built equal.
            JAL and Singapore are the only economy classes I can fall asleep comfortably in.

      • that's all the tips I can give you in two minutes!

        Thanks, your answer was really comprehensive. I'm amazed you got that much information in, in only two minutes!

      • so I just had a look booking directly via Korean Air

        • changed the return date to 11/3 as I want to stay in Japan longer. Return flights ended up to be just over $1k so not bad
        • I will be visiting Busan, so flying from Busan to Osaka then last leg Tokyo back to Seoul for one more day (half day), around $450ish flying Jeju Air ( heard good things about it).
        • All up sub $1,500 I think it's pretty good!
      • +2

        Zipair seems like a good option for hopping between Japan and Korea (low-cost subsidiary of JAL that looks pretty decent)

        • 🙏

      I’m doing the same thing. I just had a quick look, it’s gonna be hard. You can buy this ticket then book a separate flight to go Japan and go back go Seoul on the way back.

    • +3

      I’ve done something like this. Basically book this ticket that’s Aus to Seoul return then within that return time book a budget return from Seoul to Tokyo or Osaka. So it would be Aus > Seoul 10 days then Seoul > Tokyo 10 days then Tokyo > Seoul a day or two (or same day of time allows) Seoul > Aus

      This is the cheapest way to do it because if you book Aus > Japan > Seoul > Aus there often aren’t as good a deals and it won’t be as comfortable

    • +1

      There is a ferry that goes from both Seoul and Busan to Japan (I know the Busan one goes to Fukuoka, not sure where the Seoul one takes you but, suspect it might be the same place)

      • +1

        Fun fact, the new ferries between Busan and Japan are built in Australia!

      • There aren't ferries from Seoul to Japan. Seoul is on a river and doesn't face the sea. It's also on the opposite side of the country(to the coast that is closest to japan).

        Incheon, a separate port city but in the same metropolitan area as Seoul(about an hour away from central Seoul), used to have ferries to China. Although not sure if the services have resumed post-pandemic.

    • I'd recommend doing one or the other.

  • I paid $490 with jetstar recently.

      I'm so sorry

    I got $1350 last month for Syd -> Seoul -> Osaka, then Tokyo -> Syd in May, Korean Airline

    • Hey mate, can you kindly share the dates?

      • +2

        10 May Syd -> Seoul
        15 May Seoul -> Osaka
        24 May Tokyo -> Syd

        • Is the Tokyo -> Syd leg with a Korean airline? I thought international airlines could only take passengers to or from their home country. Or does the Tokyo -> Syd leg have a stopover in Korea?

          • +1

            @Russ: hey mate,

            Syd -> Seoul - direct
            Seoul -> Osaka - direct
            Tokyo -> Syd - stopover in Korea

          • @Russ: ….. where did you get this idea?
            If they have a seat they will sell you the ticket. Visas and entry requirements are up to your passport and planning but there is zero requirement for an airline to only carry passengers from home base and back…

            • @lainey13: It has always been this way.

              It's part of the agreements between every nation and the airlines it will let land at their airports. Presumably the rule is there to stop international airlines from undercutting each nation's national airline.

              For example, there is probably a Singapore Airlines flight that goes from Singapore to the UAE, with a stopover in India. But you'll find there's no way to book a ticket from India to UAE on that flight, it just isn't permitted.

              It also stops undercutting of domestic airlines too. A number of international airlines fly Sydney to Asian destinations, with a stopover in Cairns. But you can't book just the Sydney to Cairns leg of that flight.

              Perhaps tiny nations that don't have their own airline don't have this rule, but having this rule is the norm.

              • @Russ: I apologise, I read all of it wrong.. I see what you mean now. Sounds like it's just a standard flight though, they aren't getting on at the stopover? Like its ticketed from Tokyo to Sydney? Maybe the rules are different? I'll stop commenting now >_<

                • @lainey13: No worries, I was just querying them because their initial post suggested they were flying direct from Japan to AU with a Korean Airlines ticket.

                  Korean Airlines and JAL have a codeshare agreement, and it would make sense in an environmental, convenience and economic way to not force Nick K to fly north to Korea, just so he can then fly south to Australia. I was hoping that the airlines might have taken the "green" option and allowed him to fly direct Japan to AU on a JAL flight, with a Korean Airlines ticket, as a codeshare passenger.
