Tesla got another price drop this Monday and those Model 3 are in stock at the moment. If you don't want to wait for the new 2024 version and wish to take the price benefit + government rebate, then give it a go.

The NSW EV stamp duty free and rebate will end by the end of this year. So, if you are looking for those benefits then must be quick.

        Yes and I'm on the Body Corp Committee, is a very interesting discussion atm.

        Depending on how old the apartment complex is there can be considerable electrical upgrades needed. Our current setup is thankfully powerpoints in each garage which saves lots of infrastructure.

        However, these are standard powerpoints and draw down/capacity is soon becoming an issue. If everyone has an electric car on charge our power supply to building would trip out. We need $150k of upgrades to manage this just on current capacity draw. If we are talking fast chargers etc its potentially $400k and speaking to Energex to ensure supply from outside our complex is sufficient.

        Then you have issues with fire and insurance. Not set rules now and everyone is waiting for the first body to issue advice first. Essentially (particularly for basement car parking) Fire dept say you should have sufficient fire protection on site to put out a battery fire. No apartment has this yet, the old fire hose wheel wont do anything.

        Insurance is starting to ask questions how many cars you have, i.e. what is the risk, where are they parked, can the Fire Dept access. If you're 3 levels down on a 2.1m high basement, no Fire Dept can access. If its true and these cars burn for 3 days you will have major issues and therefore major insurance risk.

        Will be real interesting to watch the impact on premiums, infrastructure etc.

        Some complexes are negating this with putting 1 shared charger in an outside spot, but not ideal for 50 users.

          The peeps who say fire risk is negligable needs to listen up. There is a significant risk especially when there are lots of EVs in a garage.

          Imagine 50 cars drawing 11kw each at the same time. You'd need massive electrical supply.

          The impact on premiums will be one way; UP.

      • this is why iv put down a deposit on a hyundai 120 N. I have 3 months until it arrives, however im also reading up on tesla and EV's in general
        the no fuel and less maintenance required is really appealing
        but not being able to charge at home really is the dealbreaker

        • The biggest issue I'm interested in is residual value.

          Battery life and cost of replacement in 7 years is quite considerable, so will almost render the value of the vehicle at like 10-20% of purchase price.

          Save the planet but have a vehicle last half as long, have no current recycling facilities for the main components that need replacement and therefore have to mine more.

    They tailored prices just to fit into rebate. Don't want a new one 2024.

      Agree it's a great deal. Huge reductions in new cars are unheard of.

        that makes My M3 LR cost 65500 . Not too bad at all. I was on the market for searching for 2021 second hand one…64-62 k.
        No point buying old gen with Atom slow CPU.

        I guess my business plan to use it for work for 5-7 years. and see how I go with it.

      Don't forget every ICE car carries around a couple of liters of slightly flammable liquid. The base model 3 uses an LFP battery which is much less likely to catch on fire.

        Petrol doesn't spontaneously combust which is a huge difference. And in the tank the ratio of petrol to oxygen is nowhere near the needed ratios to ignite.

        Battery fires are a real risk even with LFP. Especially while charging which is happening in your garage at 11kw (or 22kw) which is quite high power.

        The answer will come in the form of insurance risk assessment. One should compare insurance company risk for EV vs Petrol. Does anyone know of any data like that?

    Dutiable value means the purchase price of the ZEV, including all accessories and options added to the vehicle and any other charges or fees levied by the dealer on the purchaser. Dealer delivery charges, registration fees and vehicle registration duty are not included as part of the purchase price considerations.

    WHATS MORE: N.B. Version 1 of the Queensland Zero Emission Rebate Scheme included all dealer delivery charges in the definition of dutiable value. This inclusion has now been removed.     Dealer delivery and I believe initial order 400 deposit is deducted from the figure in tax invoice, making mine 67990 AUD just under 68 000.

    I think effectively in the current deal we are getting Model 3 Long range model at the price of Standard Range Model 3 as per old 2021-2022 prices.

    Just got hit by a tesla this morning while waiting at traffic light. This guy hit the back of my car without stop it. I am surprised tesla model y doesnt even have some basic automatic brake system.

        Even My bmw x3 will give warning and auto brake if i am going too fast into the front car or not enough distance. This guy is straight into me, i was so pissed as i got kids and baby onboard, when i got off the car and walked to him he is pretending he didnt even know he hitted my car he doesnt feel anything. He then start carry on having excuses such as he just got the car and not used to his car distance blah blah blah.

  • We are on the lookout for an electric car. Went for an MG4 test drive yesterday and that car is fairly good. Just maybe a bit small for a family where the kids are approaching teenage years and the boot space was limited.

    Anyway be that as it may, we went to the local Tesla dealer to have a look at the Model 3 clearance model so as it was fresh in our brains. Obviously the Model 3 boot was a alot bigger and the kids loved it of course. Alot of people there looking at the cars, Talked to the sales people and went for a test drive (this I hadnt planned for). Obviously a good car. Reflecting on it, I got the vibe that due to the high tech nature of the EV market, buying this current model in RWD is like buying an iphone 14 when the the iphone 15 titanium is revealed and taking orders. Really the old model value will be severely affected. I also suspected (well obiviously) that the clearance stock is cars that have had there $400 deposit placed (orders) but when the 2024 update was announced, those buyers surrendered their deposit to place a new deposit the 2024 model. The saleman were trying to pump up that this wont last but they were also saying they expected sales to last until the 2024 model arrives. So I guess im on fence a bit, Its a decent discount but im not sure its enough and there is risk that the new model has vast improvements in small details that buyers are currently blind to. Maybe the auto wipers work better, maybe the fake leather quality is way better, in qld the cooled seats would be a huge improvement. I wonder if this price is as low as it will go I guess is the summary. Also wonderign wherther the new model price will reduce slightly mid next year after these old ones disappear.

      You do know the main difference between this year and next is there are no driving indicating stalks right? This may influence you waiting for a new one if this is too much of a change.

        New model pros:-
        Ambient lighting
        better tuned suspension
        actively cooled seats
        refreshed interior
        rear passenger screen
        25% less road noise.

        Negs
        Indicators on wheel
        three on the tree PRND on steering wheel gone (may be an improvement)
        Radar and other sensors removed for the camera to be used instead.

        For me the indicators on the current model are on the wrong side anyway so the indicator aren't a big deal breaker. I guess if your other car is euro indicators then this would be more of factor. $8000 saving is alot and maybe the changes aren't a big deal if your going to have the car for a long ownership period. But when you think of it is almost like going up a spec level i.e. toyota GX to GXL. Also theres a chance if you buy a 2024 model your car will still be current model in 3-5 years when you sell giving you better resale.

        I guess its almost like comparing different cars. for us its brings the model 3 into the game i.e.
        MG4 Excite 51 = $41k
        BYD seal = $50k
        Tesla model 3 2023 = $57k
        Tesla model 3 2024 = $65k

          TBH, the radar is handy for us as our garage is only 5.4m deep and we need the sensor to tell me how far from the back wall (40cm clearance). I'm not sure if the camera-only version can do the same job.

            That review details quite a few improvements.

            Like everything in life its risk / reward. $8000 is alot of money off. The best way to think about it is model 3a vs model 3b. They are now in different price ranges. The discount brings people into the market that werent there before. The ones that werent going to pay $64k Driveaway for a car.

    Just test drove the Model 3
    Looking to go EV..

    Major negatives are the wrong sided indicators (euro)
    And the regenerative braking is just weird…

    Coming from a small manual car (lancer)

    I found it a very difficult car to drive
    I used to taking my foot off the accelarator.. And rolling the car..

    Doing this to the tesla .. Feel like you applying the brakes..
    Probably eventually get used to it..

    Pluses are the car us a lot bigger than I expected and quite a lot of nifty features with the cameras..

    I was afraid of missing out.. On an older model with the indicator stalks ..

    But i see them as a negative

      You can disable regen, but it's better for range to leave it on and get used to it.

    • on some ev cars you can fine tune the strength of the re-gen braking, but not sure about teslas.
