I like the Bose for comfort and neutral sound, though the Sony has a noticeable improvement in active noise cancellation and is bass heavy.
There are times especially on public transport I wish the Bose had the same ANC as the Sony but then would recommend the Bose if using for longer periods.

You can go to sony store and call them your XM3 ear pads are faulty and want a trade in.
They will give you 279 price for the XM4 brand new. Don't even need proof you had XM3 or trade it in.
Tried this and they're asking for a serial number and a snapshot of the serial number on the XM3 headset, lol, damn.
Does this actually work? Is $279 a price match or just a price they made for the XM4? Also is it an online or in store deal?
$279 is "trade in" price. You don't actually need to trade in anything (unless they have changed procedure). It is online but you have to call them.
Not sure if they can do instore deal.
I have a pair of xm3s, can i just send them that serial?

@yontk: What exactly did you ask for? Just said your ear pads on your XM3 were worn in amd you'd like a replacement? Or did you specifically ask for a trade-in for an XM4?

Just did this. Call sony support and mentioned that ear pads faulty and can't purchase from sony anymore for the XM3. I mentioned I like to upgrade and discuss trade in.
Few moments later I was transferred to another department. They offered the below (pick 1) without anything else being asked
XM4 - $275
XM5 - $330I didn't even mention trade in again nor the person mentioned about process of trading in.
Next you need you create and account or mention your sony account. They will add to cart manually and adjust price.

Never bought refurbished.. what's the experience like buying refurbed from Sony. Something about the though of potentially using someone else's old headphones makes me feel sick.
They look absolutely brand new, I'm guessing they replace the ear-pads, but the entire thing looks mint.
