Thanks mate, was looking for ways to control the humidity in the bedrooms

      • +3

This will only report the humidity, not control it.

        You will need a dehumidifier…

        • I have a dehumidifier without the sensor, so I do need one for controlling :)

          • @georgiechan:

            I have a dehumidifier

            Which one?

            • +1

              @jv: Yes

            • @jv: Ausclimate Cool Seasons 10L Desiccant Dehumidifier. The spec does say its auto dry mode can maintain 40-55% RH by switching between high and low. But it never switches to low if I use the auto mode. It's like driving a car with only the on/off switch but no steeling wheel.

This thermometer with home assistant may open up more possibilities for finer grain control.

              • @georgiechan: I have the same one and always set it on low manually (high is too loud)… Takes the room down from 70% to around 45% in no time…

                • @jv: High is indeed very loud. But when it's on low, there's a very annoying whistle once in a while so can't really have it on at night as well. The whistling noise is there when it's on high but it's not as noticeable.

Apart from the noise and some smells, the unit works really well. Have half a container full every morning after putting on auto for 8 hrs from 10pm in one of the unused bedrooms.

                  • @georgiechan: I actually have two of these and there is no whistling in mine.

I've had them a few months now and run them most days.

                    • @jv: You must have got the good ones. Saw quite a few people complaining about the whistling on ProductReview.

                      • @georgiechan:

Hard to spot them amongst all the 5 star reviews.

                        • @jv: It's in the Questions & Answers section. Even AusClimate admits there's whistling but calls it normal. Maybe you are in the lucky majority.

Maybe I can blame @jasswolf for teaching people on clinical listening? :)

They are probably just saying that to get out of warranty claims…

I'm pretty sure under consumer law it would be considered a minor fault that would need to be fixed.

                            • @jv: Ausclimate did say to call them up and they would sort it out to the customers' satisfaction.

I have only used mine for a few nights. Will see how it goes before calling them up. Really don't want to just return it. I am really happy with its performance.

Where did you get it from?

The ones without the noise will work just as well…

Anyway, I'm really glad I got these. It has way surpassed my expectations…

@jv: Amazon from the last prime deal.

You are right, I'm just lazy.

I got it because everyone here vouches for it. It's indeed a good one minus the noise. I would definitely not say the same thing for this one I got for $36.48 :)

  • I have 4 of the more expensive ones of this brand . Had a few initial hiccoughs but they all work well now.

Has anyone set up something like this outside to indicate when exterior temperature is less than inside temperature during the warmer months as a trigger to open windows?

I'm thinking about setting something up but unsure what sensor to use.

Not sure you'd want to do this.

      • Why not out of curiosity?

          Russian hackers.

I highly recommend not feeding the trolls

    • Not with these, but I have airthings sensors internally and then a couple semi outdoors (fly screened mud room so pretty sheltered) which I use to get a more accurate gauge of microclimate dew points to better adjust the temperature of my air con and minimise condensation. My aircon, even set to 24c+ will frequently cause some localised air temperatures to drop below the external dew point and cause condensation when it meets the warm damp air outside.

$12 at AliExpress, but I'd pay the extra and get it from Amazon rather than wait 2-3 weeks.

    • Who are you and what have you done with the real "THat's nOT a BArGaIn" jv?

      • If you don't receive it, and then have to wait 2 months to get your money back, then it's not a bargain….

  • I assume you can’t see stats when outside the house or out of BT range.

  • Grabbed 2, thanks OP!

  • Thanks bought. I was eyeing this to turn the aircon on in my shed gym when too hot before I start a workout.

  • Any recos on a good value weather station?

  • Looking to put something in a freezer downstairs that alerts me via a phone notification that it has got too hot if it fails. Would this do it or are there better options?

  • Did anyone else get a scam email from "Prime's Memebership" after ordering this?

  • I'm going to switch to Xiaomi ones again as you can now flash them to Zigbee https://smarthomescene.com/guides/convert-xiaomi-lywsd03mmc-…
