  • Maximum amount of data for a physical SIM in Japan is 10GB for 30 days?

    • Hey @Flyerone!

Yup, that's right, the max data we have for the physical SIMs is 10GB for Japan.

If you're open to considering an eSIM though you can check out this one for Japan which has up to a massive 50GB. The 50GB has a 30 day validity so plenty of data there!

      -Anna

      • Thanks. I'm on a device with no eSIM support. Will be fine for the wife though.

  • Do these have any expiry? I'm not going to be in Japan until March.

    • Hey @xT22!

Is this for the eSIM? Those ones need to be set up prior to 31st October 2024, and the physical SIMs are good to go any time before 31st December 2024. Just a heads up - this one here will need to be activated within 60 days of purchase. Either way plenty of time for you if you're headed away in March!

      -Anna

      • Asia 15 days physical sim page says that it needs to be activated before 31st Jan 2024

  • All of them data only? Can't make calls? πŸ™„

    • +1

      Hey @YodaBaby!

There are still heaps of ways to make calls even with data only SIMs! You've got WhatsApp/Facetime/Skype/FB Messenger which you can use with data only SIMs to stay connected by voice πŸ“ž

      -Anna

    • On some devices eg Samsung and Apple (not Pixel 6-7), you can use the data SIM for VoWiFi using your Australian SIM. A big YMMV disclaimer though…

  • For these

South East Asia eSIM (6 Countries)
South East Asia 30 Day Travel eSIM (12 Countries incl Japan)

    1) How many days do I have to activate as not travelling till Christmas?
    2) What's a recommended network in Cambodia (Smart Network vs Metfone) as both package give different providers

    • Hey @its!

This SEA eSIM will need to be activated within 90 days of purchase but the 12 countries SEA eSIM doesn’t have an activation expiry, so you should be good to go whenever with this one 😎

Both Smart Network & Metfone will give you great coverage in Cambodia. It will depend on which supplier has the closest cell tower to where you are travelling - you can easily switch between networks in your phone’s settings though to find the network that’s giving the best coverage where you are πŸ“±βœˆοΈ

      -Anna

      • Thanks Anna @SimsDirect

But if we buy SEA eSIM then I will get Smart Network and will not be able to switch to MetFone right as its not listed under coverage?

It's not a big deal but just curious to know if we are locked to Smart Network and how it is around Angkor Wat area which I am not sure is remote or not

        Also how is VietTel ?

And can we track usage of data?

        • Hey again @its!

No worries! You're not locked in to Smart Network - in fact modern devices will switch between networks automatically. Coverage in Angkor Wat should be good too - keep in mind it will depend on what cell towers are near by, so it might be worth switching networks manually if you feel you need to πŸ˜„

VietTel is awesome too - but they don't cover Cambodia πŸ‘€ And yep - you can keep a track on your data usage in your phones settings!

          -Anna

  • The $5 refer-a-friend promo that keeps popping up on your webpage is not applicable for this sale? Code does not work when entered on checkout.

    • +1

      Hey @daiguren!

Yup that's right - this promo won't work during sale times 😊

      -Anna

      • Thanks for the prompt reply! :)

        • You are very welcome!! πŸ€™β€οΈ

I have an old Telstra 4G Modem (Telstra 4G WiFi Pre-Paid Broadband E5372T) that I unlocked, should work with a physical SIM? Otherwise anyone have another 4G/5G modem they'd recommend? Want it for the kids tablets.

    • +1

      Hey @reubenb87!

No worries πŸ˜„ the Asia SIMs we have that will work with wifi devices, like tablets, are this one and this one here They come with 6GB or 10GB of data, so we've got the kids covered πŸ₯³

  • i need a newzealand deal for 1 week

    • +1

      Hey @raydebug!

This deal is only for our Asia region SIMs but you're in luck because starting 6th November you'll be able to grab a NZ SIM at 15% off when we kick off our site wide sale next week πŸ₯³πŸ‡³πŸ‡Ώ

      -Anna

  • Hi team,

Interested in purchasing 3 esims Japan 50gb, can I buy now and activate in February when I actually travel?

    • Hey @bargaingambler!

Nice! And yup, you sure can. Just a heads up with these ones - you need to make sure you activate them within 60 days of purchase 😊
      -Anna

      • Confirming, you must activate within 60 days of purchase but you can choose when the esims activate eg outside the 60 days of purchase (February 2024) if I purchased today?

        • Hey again @bargaingambler

With the activation restriction of 60 days on these ones; it would only take you up until the end of January. To be on the safe side; I'd probably recommend grabbing them a little closer to the end of the year (just so you don't cut it too fine) - but more than happy to honour the sales price listed here.
If you wanted to shoot me through a DM, I can sort out a discount code for you 😎.

          -Anna

  • +1

    Hi Rep,
Can we get a deal on NZ SIM cards as well?
    Thanks

    • +1

      Hey @harry2008

This deal here is only for our Asia region SIMs but I have good news for you because starting 6th November you'll be able to grab a NZ SIM at 15% off when we kick off our site wide sale next week πŸ₯³πŸ‡³πŸ‡Ώ Keep your eyes peeled for that one!

      -Anna

      • Hmmm what's happening with this sitewide sale! Any chance you can make it 25% off NZ esim like the last sale ;)

  • Hey Rep, do you have any Viettel sim on sale?

    • Hey @boozler

      We sure do!

We have this SEA eSIM with anywhere between 3GB - 30GB (depending on what you're after) that uses the VietTel network in Vietnam and this one as well which also uses VietTel and comes in either a 6GB or 10GB option😊

      -Anna

  • Does anyone else find the plan pages with the 'up to' GB and the price being the lowest GB plan….. a bit inconvenient?

    • Hey @Eeples!

That's good feedback! We're always trying to make things as easy as possible for you guys so I'll pass it on to the team to check out 😎

      -Anna

Hi! looking at this one - South East Asia eSIM (6 Countries) - 20GB 30 days

We wont be travelling till March. Will we still be able to use it then and will it need to be activated prior?

    • +1

      Hey @Bloodfart!

Yup, you sure can! Just a heads up though - you'll need to get this one up and activated within 90 days of purchase 😊

      -Anna

      • ok great. and just to confirm, the 20GB for 30 days only commences once connected to the network overseas?

      • Hi Anna, Im seeing conflicting information… Which is it?

Your customer service has responded with the following:

Your 30 days will start immediately from whenever you activate your eSIM.

With out South East Asia eSIM (6 Countries), you actually have 90 days from purchase to complete activation.

So I'd recommend waiting a bit, if your trip is in March, so you can make sure you're covered βœ…

        • Hey @Bloodfart

Yup, that's correct - the 30 days will kick off once you've activated the eSIM. With these ones, you have 90 days from when you purchase to get it up and running. You probably would be best off holding off if you're not headed off until March - happy to shoot. you through a discount code though so you can grab them at the sale price closer to your travel date 😊

          -Anna

          • @SimsDirect: Yes please! a discount code would be awesome as I have to buy for 5 of us

  • -1

    Hi Rep,

Which are the best physical/esim for travel to singapore-hong kong-taiwan?

    • +1

      Hey @queezy

This bad boy might be exactly what you're looking for!

      -Anna

  • I'm going to Japan by end of December and first time considering using eSIM for travel.

How do I go from switching with my current physical sim card then use the eSIM for travel and then go back to my current SIM card here in Australia?

Also the 30 day expiry is after activating the eSIM right?

    • After reading, no idea! Would also like to know. Scan QR code to set up and activate, how do you know which your using? Scan before you depart, when you land, how to switch back.

Anyone with experience care to share.

      • Hey @HelpWanted!

You're right on the money with the steps there; scan/activate when you land in your destination and then switch back when you return home πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί
The eSIM and physical SIM will have clear labels in your phone's settings - so it'll be easy to see which one you're using and to switch between them, too!

        -Anna

    • Hey @layao2002

No worries! You can easily switch between your physical and eSIM in your phone's settings 🧐 (and don't worry - we also give you detailed instructions on how to get set up πŸ“– ) and yep - you're spot on there; the 30 days starts from when you activate your eSIM & connect to a local network πŸ“ž
You can always reach us at [email protected] if you need any help, too!

      -Anna

  • -1

    Any Vietnam eSIM?

    • Hey @mt2000!

      Yup, we sure do!

We've got this SEA eSIM which comes in 6GB for 12 days or 10GB for 30 days which will have you sorted for Vietnam πŸ‡»πŸ‡³

      -Anna

  • So all Japan esims should be activated within 60days ?

    • Hey @akula!

This guy here just needs to be activated by 31st October 2024 & you're good to go!

For this one you'll need to activate it within 60 days of purchase πŸ‘€

      -Anna

  • HI
Do you guys have anything for Sri lanka?

    • Hey @SLW 😊

We sure do! You can check out our 6GB Asia SIM which will have you good to go in Sri LankaπŸ‡±πŸ‡°

      -Anna

      • cool, anything with tad bit more data?

        • @SLW we do have other SIMs that will cover Sri Lanka, with a tad more data, but they're not currently included in our Asia sale. You can check them out here if you like! πŸ‘€

          -Anna

          • @SimsDirect: Oh thats perfect.
Any discount coming up on them?

            • @SLW: Yes @SLW - we sure do 😊 If you keep an eye out on Monday 6th, our site wide sale kicks off which will include these ones.

  • I'm travelling to Hong Kong & Macau (combined 2.5 weeks) and South Korea (8days).

Which deal would be best for me?

    • Hey @TheBardsTale!

Sounds like an amazing trip! 😊
You've got a couple of options - for Hong Kong/Macau we have this guy here which will set you up with anywhere from 1-20GB but you'll have to grab a separate one to cover you in South Korea - this is probably your best bet!

      -Anna

      • Hey Anna, I've never bought an eSim before, but do I literally just buy it, get a QR code and activate it when I land in HK?

Is there anything else I need to do?

        • +1

          Hey again @TheBardsTale πŸ˜„

Yep - spot on! As long as you've got an eSIM compatible phone - you'll just need to scan your QR code and follow the steps in your guide πŸ“– It's super easy and the team's got your back if you need anything, too 😎

          -Anna

  • Travelling to China end of the month, am I able to access google, etc using the esim?
    https://simsdirect.com.au/collections/esim-asia/products/chi…

    • I would imagine the chinese sim would use chinese cell providers meaning you need a VPN. When I visited I got 30 days expressVPN and refunded it after I left.

    • Hey @xii4obear

Great question - you shouldn't run into any problems accessing any sites with these particular eSIMS at all, but I am just triple checking for you just in case

      I'll keep you posted! 🫑

      -Anna

    • Hey there again @xii4obear!

Good news - have heard back and can confirm that you'll have no issues at all accessing any sites with this eSIM 😊

Let me know if there is anything else I can help out with!

      -Anna

  • Am I missing something with these deals? the value proposition seems terrible vs just buying a prepaid sim when you land?

An example. I almost got one of these for a family member who was going to europe, decided against it because it was like $50 for very little data. When she landed she grabbed a prepaid sim at the airport getting over 100gb for around aud $40.

    • People ask the same thing every single time, and it's quite obvious. You're paying for convenience.

Yes, it's cheaper to land and buy a sim card, but that takes time and tbh, depending on where you're going, there might be communication issues.

      • You're totally right! @TheBardsTale. All of those things 😊❀️

      • +1

Okay well pass for me. Seems like more money for less data to save maybe 15 minutes at the airport when I land.

    • Hey @Cits!

Totally get it - everyone has different requirements for what they need in a SIM, and that does sound like a great deal!

We find a lot of people like to have things all set up and ready to go for when they land so they love the convenience and knowing they're not going to have to face any issues once they've just jumped off a long flight - plus you've got the best support team in the known universe in your corner to help out if you need it πŸ˜ŽπŸ€™

      -Anna

  • Hi OP, I am in Japan landed today. Inserted sim and see network is there and roaming activated but not getting internet connection. Do I need to do anything else to activate apart from inserting sim.

    • Hey @Yogi555

If you've got one of the Japan physical SIMs you should just be able to pop it in, make sure you've got roaming activated and restart your phone. Sometimes you might need to make a couple of tiny tweaks to the APN or phone settings to kick things off - you can find all of those steps in your SIM Guide but if you need help with any of it, please just shoot off an email to [email protected] - the team are there to help!❀️

      -Anna

      • It worked after setting apn.thanks.

        • Fab! Love to hear it - have an amazing time in Japan! πŸ₯³

  • Any deals for North America? (USA, Canada, Mexico)

    • Hey there @dRealSinghShady

This deal here is only for our Asia region SIMs - BUT I have great news because next Monday we kick off our 15% site wide sale so you'll be able to snag some North American bargains! πŸ₯³

      -Anna

  • Hey store rep! Just checking before I buy - is Google Pixel 7a a compatible device? It's not listed on your list of compatible devices, but is supposedly able to take eSims.

    • +1

      Hey @froggreen!

It sure is - the Google Pixel 7a has Dual SIM support through a single Nano SIM card slot and eSIM connectivity. So you're good to go! πŸ™Œ
We'll get that list updated as well……🧐

      -Anna

  • Waiting for a deal on Morocco…..

    • +1

      Hey @nicksinternet

Ah no! We don't actually have any SIMs that cover Morocco at the moment - really sorry about that!

      -Anna

  • Hi Store Rep,
Can you please help me out I made a mistake with my order, I should have ordered South East Asia eSIM (6 Countries) 30GB 30 Days instead of South East Asia eSIM 10GB 30 Days. Is it possible to transfer this across? The pricing is the exact same.

    • +1

      Hey @DalryThistle!

No worries - can you shoot your order number across to the team at [email protected] - they'll be able to help you out 😊

      -Anna

      • All sorted - Great customer service. Thank you!

        • Love to hear it! Glad it's all sorted ❀️😊

          -Anna

  • Hi Store Rep!

Looking to get an Japan eSim, I leave as of 10:30pm tomorrow. If I were to purchase this eSim today, would it be ready to go and be activated for use in Japan by the 3rd of November?

    • Hey there @Zex94

Absolutely! We've got this bad boy here and this one here for our Japan eSIMs. They'll get delivered by email immediately, so you'll be good to go to activate when you land πŸ”₯ ✈️

      Safe travels tomorrow πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅

      -Anna

      • I ordered 4 x Japan e-sims and never received them (and yes, I've checked my spam and it's not there, although I do have a welcome email with no other info). I can't get anyone to respond via email or chat so thought I'd try here instead. Are you able to help me?

        • Hey @arikdiver

Thanks so much for reaching out here. Let's get this sorted for you πŸ˜„ I've just sent you a DM so I can grab your order details and see what's happened 🧐

          -Anna

          • @SimsDirect: Sorery, I had DMs turned off. I've fixed it now so if you can resend I would much appreciate it. Thank you :)

            • @arikdiver: No issues! I just resent, then πŸ˜„

              -Anna

  • How's the data speed and coverage like compared to Ubigi which I was eyeing? Going to Japan next week and will be travelling big and smaller cities, will want something that isn't spotty that has decent coverage if I need to get work done.

  • Heya @digsfisher567

All our Japan SIMs/eSIMs run on either the Softbank Network or the Japan Docomo Network; so you should have great coverage either way 😎 They also all run on at least 4G wherever you are (swapping to 5G when available) so they're pretty zippy πŸ’¨ If you're headed off next week, I'd probably recommend grabbing an eSIM, just to make sure it arrives in time!

    -Anna

  • Just posting here as others may have the same problem.
I ordered about 14 hours ago and haven't received my eSIM but I do have an order confirmation.

    Have emailed SimsDirect.

    • Hey @frizzles

Oh no! Your eSIM email should come through pretty much straight away. If you're still having issues with it can you also shoot me through a DM with your order number so that I can also follow up on our end?

      -Anna

      • Thanks Anna, all sorted now :)
Thanks for responding to my email.

        • Amazing! Have a great trip πŸ₯³βœˆοΈ

  • I grabbed the 30gb for 30 days for my 10 day indonesia trip. Having peace of mind that 3GB a day can be used is easily worth $36.

XL network seems to be ok, not Telkomsel but still the cheapest eSIM option.

Can't go back to tourist SIM cards after using eSIM on a 12 country / 6 week trip this year, and still able to receive SMS from Australia is great for multi-factor authentication!

Edit: I received my PDF with QR code 2 minutes after the order receipt email.

Edit 2: your help docs don't specifically say what the APN is for the South Asian SIM, or all your SIMs, or for Indonesia. I'd just like to confirm what the APN is, because I was stuck on a sweaty train in Tokyo going very fast, trying to use wifi/google in one hand while holding onto my suitcase with the other, when first connecting my Airalo global eSIM this year and want to avoid that happening again.

    • Hey @zan5hin!

Love to hear it! Sounds like an amazing trip 😊

All of the relevant APNs should be in the SIM guides - I've just triple checked with the supplier that the APN info in the SEA eSIM guide is correct. As long as it looks exactly as it's shown in the guide, you should be good to go! ✈️

Anyone not seeing the discount at checkout? Added 30day 10GB SE Asia sim and cart paypal checkout screen shows $45 instead of $36.
