[Used] Dell Optiplex 3050 Micro, Core i5-7500T, 8GB / 128GB SSD $127.20 ($124.02 eBay Plus) Delivered @ UN Tech eBay

360
RTCH20RTCH22

Looks like the cheapest available used micro PC with a 7th gen core i5 and better value than the currently available 6400/6500t PC's.

However Wifi is provided through a (included) generic 2.4Ghz USB dongle, not an onboard card.

Description says it comes with Windows 11. Although this generation isn't officially supported I assume that you could easily reinstall windows 10 as it would have been activated in its previous life.

  • Are there 10gbe/2.5gbe cards for these lil guys?
And would these work a like a lil diy NAS/Server etc?

And would these work a like a lil diy NAS/Server etc?

I use the Dell Optiplex 7060 Micro as a Jellyfin server, so these should work the same.

    • Wondering how can you make it as a Nas ? 2 SSD config ?

      • Some sort of external drive solution? But that would kinda negate the idea of making it a Nas haha. Idk I like diy stuff like this

        • I have 4 of those with mix of 6th and 8th gen. Yeah, gave up the plan to make ssd nas. My HP can fit 1 x2.5 drive, 1 nvme 1 m.2, but they're too expensive to build.

I have only around 1TB of data 😂

      • I have one of these with a 5tb 2.5" HDD in it. Not heaps of storage and no redundancy so not an ideal Nas but works well as a Plex server.

I bought one of these for another tiny/mini/micro machine (not this exact model)

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/404494366575?var=674465631858

It goes into the WiFi m.2 A+E slot and adds 2.5GbE

I think 10GBE is a big ask, the only cheap model I know that can get 10GBE is Acer Veriton N4640G, you can take off a plastic shield and expose a horizontal full length 16x PCIE slot.

  • Anyone know how this compares to a shield tv pro?

Edit - Are these also gigabit ethernet?

    • Yes gb ethernet

    • +1

Mine has an Intel I219-LM (gigabit ethernet) onboard.

    • +3

Well this is a computer running windows and the shield is an android streaming device.

I have the shield pro which is great and I also have one of these set up as a mini proxmox server.

It wouldn't be impossible to turn this into a streaming device but just really depends on what you want out of it

    • downside of these is
      -no HDMI-CEC support
-usually people don't leave these on all the time (there's a running fan) while the shield you would

  • I bought one of these at the beginning of the year for like $200 but that had a 240Gb SSD. There is an m2 slot for wifi and it should be usable for a 2.5gbe nic card. There's a punch out hole at the back which should be able to accommodate the ethernet port but you'd have to find some way to mount it (eg 3d printed holder).

    • m2 slot for wifi and it should be usable for a 2.5gbe nic card

      isn't m2 slot for ssd?

do you have some pics of the internal and the back?

      • M2 slots are really just PCIe slots - you can find all sorts of mini expansion cards to fit including 2.5Gb Ethernet cards.

  • Is the RAM upgradable?

thoughts for a 10 yo starting on Robox and games like that?

    • +2

Daughter and son have the 8500t/9500t models of these Dells which run the same GPU (Integrated Intel® HD Graphics 610/630 (with Intel® 7th generation processors). Does the job for Roblox.

I recently inherited one of these. Wiped the original drive and installed win10 and it automagically activated it. Is it bound to mobo or something???

    • +1

      Key is stored in bios.

      • That makes sense! thanks.

    • I have a few more I can access. I might wipe them and distribute among family members…..

      • +1

My parents have a similar model on their tv. Quick ad break online grocery shop together or email check.

I use one for downloads. Reccommend adding a 6e wifi M2 card. For me that seemed to get me enough speed to get me over the hump and send Bluray rips to a Fiirestick in my projector smoothly.

    • +1

bound to the hwid (combination of serial numbers from CPU & motherboard)

These are almost spare tyre priced.

Set one up and drop it into a drawer if your main PC is down.

I prefer 8th gen on but this is cheap.

  • It wasn't long ago these 7th Gen ( and even below ) sff PC's were $200+

    • +2

Yes. Lots of corporates are dropping them so they can upgrade to Windows 11 (without the hacks).

Microsoft's Windows 11 hardware requirements are creating a lot of e-waste.

  • OOS

  • I use one of these to run sonnar/radarr/nzbget which downloads my files then sends them to Synology Nas. As Im not a fan of docker.

I run auto power on and auto login then use a app to delay the start up so network dives load then nzbget then sonarr and radarr a few minutes later.

I upgraded my wifi card In it and added a 2.5" drive from a old Toshiba external (most other 2.5" dives won't work)

  • Those needing a wifi & bluetooth (internal m.2 card) - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/806874

I got mine recently, and been working okay. (speeds probably not the best in my room due to distance tho) So dont expect anywhere near that 2000Mbps speed if you aint in the same room.

    • so this has no built in ethernet port?

so the current SSD in this dell is not an M2?
