With the current Optus situation it’s time to port.

    • +1

I am also affected on Coles Mobile and found this deal :/

    • +1

Don't think porting works during outage

      • +3

yea it doesnt, coz you need to receive a OTP from new provider to port

    • -1

With the current Optus situation it’s time to port.

Sure, if you are happy to wait a week or two for postage…

      • Can't u buy a $2 sim card from coles and use it by calling customer service, I think they can manage it

        • How are you going to call without service?

        • It won't get this deal shipped any sooner…

      • 2 day postage with ebay plus

  • Possibly stupid question.. Can I get this and use it to recharge my current Sim? Or do I need to port out then back in on this new Sim?

    • +6

No, new customer only. Do the port out and in. Just don't port out to Floptus otherwise you're stucked there.

      • How long do you have to port out for? And what is the best provider to do it with? My current boost plan expires in a couple of weeks

        • +1

don't really need a timeframe, but you can port out to kogan esim. that should work instantly but make sure your device is esim compatiable

          • @cephh: So could I port to Kogan and back to Boost all over like 1 day? Or a weekend?

            • +1

@Anon257: honestly, id recommend doing it on a weekday, and ensuring the port has completely gone through just give it a few hours or so thats pretty much it

          • @cephh: Trying to activate kogan esim and it seems they require user to select plan or input voucher code in order to finalise activiation.

            • @dainese: Hey, did Kogan mobile esim work for you?
I'm not sure if I can have the esim as my only active sim given I only have an iPhone 13 and the Boost sim will deactivate once Kogan port completes.

              • @Anon257: The esim worked fine but my recent activiation required me to select a plan. The cheapest one being $15 or something for 10Gb for a month. So using that for a bit and then will port back into Boost.

    • +1

I’ve heard the Boost team would help you recharge it to your current number but ymmv.

    • You have been given right information. You can have a live chat on the boost web site and tell them you want to use this new sim to recharge your existing service, and they will take care of what is effectively an internal port for you. I have done this many times and never been refused. They want your money so they will do it.

      • when was the last time you did it? it's been mentioned they've stopped doing this recently.

      • They just refused to do it online - said I needed to call. Then refused to do it on the phone - said I need to port out and back in.

  • +1

Can anyone comment on how boost 4G speeds are in real world? I'm with Woolies (Telstra network but not as good as boosts) and most of the time it can barely load a YouTube video during the day. Would love some people's experience with boost

    • +1

No issues for me, I get 5G in Tasmania in major cities. At remote places i notice my friends on Telstra have better reception than me. But nothing serious.

      • yes telstra alway max signal
boost always mid or low signal

    • Boost SIM are on 5G but speed capped to 150Mbps.

      • I've had speeds upto 250 Mbps on the Boost 5G plan , not sure if they capped it recently.

        • They haven't, I just did a speed test and got 290Mbps

    • +4

It all depends on your location. It has no relation with what others have experienced in other parts. In my previous residence, Telstra was best. Now hardly 800m far from that place in my new residence, Telstra sucks while Vodafone is Ok. There is a mall nearby. In its ground stores, Telstra sucks but my Vodafone is quite fast. I know because my spouse is on Boost and I'm on Vodafone so I can compare in real time. Although she gets 5G, while I'm stuck on 4G being on Lebara. That's another reason we are on different network because at least one of our services are working.

    • This is likely tower congestion more than wider network congestion on telstra wholesale.

I have found wholesale customers will get throttled before telstra/boost customers when a tower is congested, but everyone on that tower still feels it.

My solution when I lived near a congested telstra tower was to get a vodaphone sim to use for data in a dual sim phone. Even with poor signal it was better at peak times. This is getting rare these days especially with the 5g rollout in high pop areas. Glad I moved eventually.

  • Seller is great. I received my sim the next day (melbourne)

  • +2

    Any activation deadline?

  • Looking for 12 months sim card. Is it the best deal yet or should I wait?

$230/12 = ~$19.20 per month and roughly ~14.2GB Sound good?

    Thanks :)

    • this is $178 ($176.72 eBay Plus)

      • My bad. $178 work out ~$15 per month. Good or wait?

        • +1

You can price match at Officeworks,
if you can find a current offer that you like.

  • +3

Don't pay more than $150 for this. On BF will be around that price after cashback/coupon

    • Was about to share this!

    • Oh I was attempted to purchase. You have any idea how that comes to 150? thanks

    • +1

With cashback, you would have to activate within 28 days right? So this might be better if you want to save it for later (Activate by 2025)

    • I'm holding out for a Black Friday deal too - the SIM I purchased this time last year expires in a week or so.

  • Any idea when it needs to be activated by?

    • +8

don't be a clown, read the ebay description:
      - Activation expiry date circa 1/2025
      - Receive 10GB bonus data if activate by 27/11/2023

      • So I can hold on to it until Dec 2024 and I'll get 160GB of Data upon activation?

  • +1

Same deal, different code, good if you missed it couple of days ago,
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/808997

  • Should wait, or buy?
Seems a bit high, usually it is around 150-160, after other offers.
Still have around 20 days left on plan, and BF is around same time.

    • That was the price pre covid flation. Back in the good ol days before every man and his dog was on Boost.

    • -1

Better to buy, due to today Optus outage, lot of them moving to different networks. Due to high demand, may be won't see this kind of deals for month or two.

    • Seems a bit high

Boost have been increasing the price of these long term plans for many years now…

      • I don't disagree, but I bought this last December for $170 with $35 CR cashback (Net = $135 for 140GB plan / 12M).

I think it's only been the last 12 months that its jumped up a lot, no?

        • I don't disagree

          Double negative !!! 😲

        • I think it's only been the last 12 months that its jumped up a lot

          Since 2019
          $150, $170, $200 and now $230

          • @jv: ok. Mine was actually the $200 - with $30 off.

In any case I will just be moving to a different mvno. Can't be bothered porting out and back with 2 accounts…

            • +1

@nismo: I switched my kids to Woolies $170 for 125Gb and got 2000 rewards points for each.
I think the rewards offer finished but there is still Cashrewards.

              • @jv: Thx, yeah it's either woolies or More at this stage. Was looking at the monthly options, but may stick with the 12M

                More = $16.20 p/m (equivalent, factoring 3M free)
                Woolies = $13.20 (factoring $12 CB)

                • @nismo:

                  (equivalent, factoring 3M free)

                  $260/yr if not factoring…

                  But you get More data….

                  • @jv: I can't pretend there isn't 3 months free though, its available until next year… so I am factoring - just like the woolies cashback… need to compare apples to apples

                    • @nismo:

need to compare apples to apples

                      and androids to androids.

                      • @jv:

                        JV… you've done it again

                • @nismo: Also Superloop/Exetel if you've got other services with them. The cheapest plan is about to be $18 p/m, but this comes down with the slashmybill ($5 off first sim card, $2.50 off for each additional card after that up 5 cards).

With Woolies if you link it to everyday rewards you get 10% off one shop/month. Pays your monthly phone bill if you're a regular Woolies shopper anyway (and you do a bulk shop).

  • if you on Optus, the rage will get you and you must buy it now!
    Can't wait for BF!

  • Tempting, I'm currently with Circles and I want e-sim, but I realise that Boost mobile doesn't have e-sim either

Any recommendations for a cheap prepaid sim service provider who has e-sim?

    • +2

      Woolworths mobile

      • thank you! do they normally offer deals on their long expiry plans or should I just get them outright?

    • Kogan.
If you are staying near major CBDs all the time

  • inchecked this ones lowest price is 170 172 173 or so.

176 is quite good price if you need now

  • Looks like it's out of stock

  • Does Boost have the option to split the 170GB data into monthly "data blocks" like Lebara?

Tried searching for an answer to no avail, so presuming it's a no, but asking the brains trust anyway.

  • Can you receive SMS when overseas?

    • yes as I know. better to check. we have used roaming for even calls with an addon

    • Confirmed.

I got 3 sms overseas before I brought their roaming pack (pretty good value for 14 days tbh)

  • Whats the best porting option to cycle out/in? Can it be done same day?

    • +1

You don't need to port out and in. Just tell them you bought a new sim and want to charge and they will port you internally. I have done this many times.

      • Yeah i was too before, but others are now saying they have changed policy on this.

      • Policy changed. Port out is required since June

  • How is the Coles 120gb for $129 offer?

    • It's on flOptus

    • I have Coles one which I got couple of years back, still $96 a year. But I thought to change to Boost after today.

  • Damn sold out quickly

    • that sold out real quick also

  • whats the diff between this one https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/808896?

    • Early expiry?

For those who missed out on Auditech, buy it from Oz Tech Biz (the link @gutenmuach gave). I got my own Boost sim from them, exactly as advertised. (profanity) Optus.

  • +2
    • Nice! :)

  • I barely use my data coz of WFH and today was the last straw with Optus, so I pulled the trigger on one of these - question for enthusiasts of these long term sims, what’s the go with international roaming? I’m assuming this sim in particular won’t allow for roaming; what’s your guys solutions for this? Best temporary stopgaps for those situations?

    • +1

From my previous experience, I used Wifi calling and was able to make call and receive sms while in vietnam

      • Nice, I was hoping I’d be able to receive & make calls and receive SMS while overseas. Data wise, I can just buy an esim for roaming. Will be fun giving this a crack instead of a conventional phone plan - worst case, I can just go back to a normal phone plan after the 12 months if I hate it anyway!

        • +1

Plus if it didnt work overseas, you could always buy the roaming add-on if you can connect to wifi
