    Specs - 150mm x 90mm x 89mm.

  • Thanks OP. Grabbed one. Will sell my 15 year old clock radio (also purchased from GG) at the markets in a couple of weeks time… perfect.

Bette to buy a lenovo clock which is very covenient unless uou specifically need Radio

      • +1

I looked at it some time back but it doesn't have the two most important things I need which are battery backup and radio.

    • +4

My clock radio is about 20 years old and still working. I great birthday gift it was. It even has a CD player, though I have not used that function for 2 years (if you leave a CD in it for too long, like months, it will strip some of the foil backing off, ruining the CD). I just use it as am alarm clock now to to know the time when I wake up. Unlike 99% of the population I do not go to sleep with a cellphone turned on under my pillow.

      • With old clock radios powerfailure kills the settings(some of them got battery back up).
With DAB it automatically adjusts the time inluding daylight saving
The google clocks you can do much more like asking for weather, traffic etc.

  • Curious if an owner can confirm the radio alarm works on these.

I've collected 3 dab radios now and none of the radios will turn on at the set time. I assume they all use the same chip they are of the same vintage when the displays were lame.

    thanks.

    • Richter RR40WAL is the best dab+ clock radio out there atm, although its pricey

I had a sony for around 10 years which recently died, and the richter is much better than the sony was, it uses the dab+ to sync your time and timers for everything, not an internal clock.

i wonder if you can turn down the brightness…

    • +2

wanting to know the exact same thing. some of these are too bright to sleep with in bedroom would like dimmable

    • +23

Close one eye to get 50% brightness, and close both eyes to dim all the way to 0%.

      • lol

      • +6

You must have some really thick eyelids to be able to block out 100% of light.

      • Are you a scientist?

    • +2

Yes you can. Information is listed in the manual under the support tab on Panasonics web site.

There are three setting levels for brightness. Bright, less bright & dim.

    • +1

Just picked up mine and can confirm that there are 3 levels of brightness imaginatively named Bright, Less Bright and Dim. Very easy to change the brightness just by pressing the large Snooze/Brighness/Enter bar on top.

  • +3

The reviews on these are pretty bad.

    • Mostly from people who complained about 24 hour clock or not understanding how to do something because they didn't read the manual. Google reviews show 4.0, Amazon 3.9, Good Guys 4.3 so not that bad at all.

    Dealbreakers:
    Line out
    Stereo headphone socket.
    Bluetooth 4+

    It has none of these

    • +32

      It also has no:

      Freezer compartment
      Dual mode shower head
      Full size spare tyre

      What a ripoff

      • You forgot to mention no coffee maker- a must with the morning alarm.

  • Anyone know if this can auto adjust time during daylight saving?

    • +1

      Yes it will

    • It picks up the time/date automatically from Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB+) radio stations

  • +3

My smartphone replaced this more than a decade ago along with my landline on my bed side along with my camera, calculator and a dozen other formerly essential items.

    • +1

I went a step further (or not) and use an old phone as a dedicated alarm clock. Battery lasts about a month this way and I never move it from bedside.

      • +1

Seems like a nice idea for old devices!

    • +3

You kept a calculator next to the bed?

      • +3

what I want to know is the use of the camera next to the bed!!!

        • +2

          It's for my Onlybargains site

  • Sound quality not as good as JBL rival hollow baseless sounds just like banashonic

  • No battery?

    • +1

If you mean does it have battery backup, then yes it does via 2 x AA batteries.

      • But the batteries don't power the unit during power outage, they only retain settings. The clock will appear off during a blackout.

This is a deal-breaker for me. How ridiculous that a battery can't actually power the display.

        • You're absolutely right and, in the past, I have often wondered why they could just have a pushbutton to display the time for a few seconds if the power was out (that would alleviate continual drain on the backup battery). Having said that, it it's not an issue for me. We experience blackouts several times a year (usually during storms) so for the past 7 years I've had my solar power battery array kick in during blackouts to restore AC power. So I have power, but the time it takes to detect the fault and switch to backup power is often enough time to confuse a mains powered clock, so it resets to 12:00 flashing. Hence the need for a clock radio that retains a time count even when AC is off. I realise this doesn't suit everyone, but it works for me.

          • @cryptowiz: Given that digital radio tuners can obtain the correct time from the signal, it's even more reason to dislike the "backup battery" limitation.

So if power goes out in a storm without any batteries, the clock will flash 12:00 when power is restored, but within a few seconds show the correct time from the digital radio. This means the only help the batteries offer is to remember other settings such as alarms and brightness, which should be saved to non-volatile memory anyway. I'm glad it works for you, but a clock radio that goes dark in power outages, even with batteries installed, is not worth even $1 to me.

Warning for anyone buying these wanting an alarm clock

The alarm volume level is NOT adjustable and set to a minimum level 7 which is extremely loud for a bedside alarm. Such a stupid design

    • +1

Hmm thanks for sharing this. I was about to buy, now not so sure.

  • +2

Anyone knows of a similer DAB+ device that supports Bluetooth headsets?

  • +1

I have a DAB+ clock radio with Qi wireless charging and bluetooth (only as a BT speaker though, not as a transmitter).
From this $29 deal almost 3 years ago.
Charges my phone every night. Works great.

  • probably a deal but what is there to listen to on the radio? It's pretty much all junk. Rather listen to podcasts on youtube, spotify etc.

    • -1

How dare you call Triple J junk.

    • +3

Contingency in case Optus goes out again

      • Very true, that's actually how I found out what was going on with Optus yesterday.

    • +1

ABC Radio National and ABC News Radio certainly aren't junk. There's a lot of great content there.

In fact, the podcasts I listen to most come straight from the radio (either ABC or BBC).

    • Double J, and SBS Chill are both pretty solid.

  • -2

ill stick to my 1985 Panasonic thx

  • I went to collect and the radio had been returned by a customer and repacked. Refunded instead of accepting.
