Decent price. Shame it's not the pny. That one is much smaller and will fit my sff

    • I don’t know what PNY you are talking about but I have a PNY 4070 TI in white and it’s a goddamn beast.
I could barely put it in my NR200P.

      • +1

Pny 4070 verto dual fan. Very small. Close to FE dimensions for 4070

        • +2

I put one in my NUC 12 Extreme.

      • Haha, exact same experience. Had to pull the subframe of the case apart just to get it in. Great card tho, super quiet.

    • +6

      That's what she said

    • Pretty sure this is ATL for 4070? Or close?

    • I have the PNY one, I bought from them $900 a few months ago.

    • How is $1249 a decent price for 4070Ti?

  • +7

look like price is coming down as the 4070Ti super is releasing soon i guess

    • +6

16GB RAM and 20% performance increase

Wouldn't bother with the 4070 at the moment.

    • +1

Wasn't the price of the 4070ti around ~1100 for a few months early this year?

  • +2

4070 vs the 7800 XT at the same price point? https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/graphics-cards/amd/10570…

4GB more VRAM but you don't get DLSS. 7800 XT makes up for it slightly by having about 7% more raster performance. FSR3 seems promising too although it's early days.

    • +3

for the dozen of us who dare to try and do VRAM mods, nvidia is much better as well because they just use traditional resistor straps, whereas AMD needs bios hacking.

      • +2

That's some good shit you got going there. Colour me impressed. How hard do you think it is, for the average science-bro? What are the chances of a catastropic failure?

        • +2

If you don't have an electronics workstation setup already (and are therefore confident with electronics), then probably not worth it. The risk is too high when such expensive parts are involved. It's not like you can get warranty on it after you've attempted a hardware mod.

That being said, the process itself isn't exactly difficult: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14jzlR4yGCQ
Though you'll want a heat-gun (a hair dryer will not do, as it doesn't get hot enough).

However troubleshooting issues is likely to require more than just a little soldering know how. So I wouldn't suggest your average Joe do it unless your specific card has steps already laid out by someone who has done it before, and all parts match (I'd suggest that both your replacements, and the ones on the GPU match whatever guide you're following - yes, they sometimes change internal parts between cards of the same vendor and model).

But if you've got an old (but still worthwhile) GPU lying around, or just have money to burn and want an interesting project. Sure, go ham.

        • Takes a bit of familiarization with soldering, after that you usually won't fail as long as you're being careful. Could practice with some junk PCBs, they work the same as far as soldering goes.

At minimum it'll take like $50-100 of tools from aliexpress if you have nothing. Heated plate (at least up to 180c), hot air rework station (preferably with soldering tip all in one, or get that by itself), solder (leaded recommended for hobbyists, especially newbies), flux, solder wick.

Then you'll need to find the PCB schematics and boardview files online, usually only the reference PCBs are available (most of the lowest tier AIB cards also use the reference PCB). From the schematics you find whether higher VRAM capacities are possible at all, and the exact memory part number to get. On the boardview you find where the strap resistors are physically located.

Works the same for laptops too, so you might save a fair bit in the long run.

FSR3 ain’t promising enough, and a ways off being truly competitive. Let alone RT….and sub par FSR2 performance with shimmering/aliasing on many titles

Without the price advantage of the 7800xt like in the US, it’s 4070 FTW here

      • +4

DLSS3 with frame gen is amazing.
I can play cyber punk maxed out with ultra ray tracing at 5K2K and get 60 fps average on the 4070 TI.

        • Dayum brah you're making me regret trading my 4070ti for the 7900xtx

            • -3

@Micsmit: You were obviously to0 busy on radeon reddit forums and less interested in benchmarking and performance reviews like digital foundry

              • @Micsmit: No, I'm only half serious with that statement. I was thinking about longevity with AMD's large VRAM, and not caring much about RT. They might yet fix their drivers to RT better.

                • @Pusheencat: As much as I like nvidia gpu for their RT performance, You should stick with 7900xtx, don't look at RT and FSR 3 only gonna get better, so it might be right decision for you in the end. that large vram may last you long

                  • +1

@V003: @V003 also it did cost ~400 more. But look at my Rasters they are smoking

                • -2

@Pusheencat: Rt isn't some fad. Lol like the Nintendo Wii . It's the future of game lighting

    • Does the extra 4GB matter much for 1440p? I thought 16GB was more something you’d need for 4K - and the 4070/7800XT don’t offer good enough raw power for compelling 4K on most titles that would need 16GB anyway

      • I think 2023 with dlss upscaling 1440p output res with 12gb is no problem . As for 2025? ….. Not sure

        • +1

I played re4r native 4k and cp2077 and aw2 on dlss performance 4k with path tracing (4070ti). I felt I was brushing against some vram tightness with re4r and aw2 but ultimately with minor tweaks they ran fine. 1440p shoould be fine for a while. Devs can’t pump up the numbers too much yet right? Still restricted by current gen console’s unified 16gb vram and ram memory

          • @nushiwii67: Oh really? Interesting. I still think 1440p dlss balanced plus frame gen will look ok in aw2 ?

I have found the games this year have bumped me down to 1440p. 4k has slipped through my fingers. Which is a shame because I love the sharpness of the ui in4k on all games.

            • +1

@Micsmit: 😔 Yeah I bought the 4070ti thinking I was okay with 1440p but I’m not so sure how much I feel that way now haha

        • -1

And there they have you … 2-3 year upgrade cycle, planned redundancy, thanks for your cash….

          • @gazer: yeah i wish my geforce 6800 was still relevant today.. then I could've avoided the upgrade cycle and have been happy with Counter strike forever.

      • +2

I wouldn't totally discount cards in this performance class for 4k with upscaling, though memory might become more of a factor. I'm generally happy with my 6800XT at 4k. For example RE4 used 15GB VRAM with FSR2 quality, max settings/RT. Game looked good and averaged 85fps.

        • Ah, yeah that’s true good point

      • +2

It's not so much the resolution of your monitor as the size of the textures. You need a lot of VRAM for a 3d game with 4k resolution textures. Some games now are 100GB installed, and most of that 100GB is just textures.

It the old days (Pre-DX11) a game had to have all of it's textures in system Ram as well as VRam, which greatly limited the maximum size of textures (for 32 bit Bethesda games, that meant only some of your textures could be 2k res and the rest 1k or lower). In the really old days textures were only 64 x 64 pixels :)

$830 is a good price for a Nvidia 4070; they are one of the most energy efficient GPUs, which is important since electricity has become so expensive.

    • +2

with Alan Wake 2 people finally see the real difference between 40 series and 70 series

  • +28

unpopular opinion… GPU prices are still a meme. 4070ti for 1.3k essentially. you can buy a PS5 and a really really nice 27-32" display and be set.

    • +4

To be fair the PS5 is playing at low settings 1440p or below and many games use garbage tier FSR. You could get a more modest GPU like the 3060 Ti and turn on DLSS and still get 60fps at 4k high settings.

      • +29

Maybe for Alan wake 2..but come on man, so many games look incredible on next gen consoles when you consider the cost. PC gaming is in that real rough patch, Ive always been on the PC bandwagon.. it's just not cost effective tbh

        • +5

Not cost effective unless you have a peg leg and an eye patch

Also if you include the annual subscription for consoles over the life span of a console you end up paying just as much or more for the subscription then you did the console.

          • +10

@lookingforadeal7: Everything is cost effective if you don't pay for it.

            • +1

@Aureus: 4070ti's at 1.3k was a thing like a few months from release though. Why would you even consider it when we're this close to refresh?

        • Ive always been on the PC bandwagon.. it's just not cost effective tbh

But you can also do productivity things on a PC which you can't on a console.

A gaming PC doesn't necessarily only enable you to play games, right? Apart from Office 365, you can also edit videos, compose music, programme, make e-Chistmas cards, and even read and send text messages from your Android phone on Windows 11.

      • Low settings? Ahh no it's a mixture of medium & high

    • +6

I guess it boils down to the games you play and whether you want or need to have a multi-purpose machine at the same time. That said, the cost of entry for PC gaming is hard to justify these days.. it's really quite sad

    • +5

Pretty hard to WFH and edit photos on a ps5

    • +1

Cept my ps5 still won't play my steam library

    • +3

you realise how much cheaper and more accessible games are on PC?

Not to mention its NOT ONLY FOR GAMING

      • plus honestly.. game pass is pretty good value on PC as well.

        • +1

if you are a ozbargain user you should know how cheap it is but apparently not

          • @Freestyle: And you can get it cheaper on Steam if you have a friend in real life who lives in Turkey/Argentina, or even who has a Chinese payment method

    • Far from an unpopular opinion. The low entry price is the main attraction of consoles. Though as others have pointed out, game prices, range, and utility are still king for PC.

Steam Deck has at least helped reduce the cost of entry to PC games. Even if it's not super performant.

    New cards coming January:

    RTX 4080 SUPER 16GB
    RTX 4070 Ti SUPER 16GB
    RTX 4070 SUPER 12GB

Pricing would have to be extremely good for any brand new NV card with less than 16GB VRAM to be considered a good buy

    • +5

They aren't seriously calling it the 4070ti super are they???

    • +5

No doubt with the price to match.

      • +3

Prices will definitely go up as the Aussie dollar is just doing so poorly right now

    • Wow! I didn't know ChatGPT had the ability to analyse ozbargain deals!

    • +3

Price drops of the vanilla 4080 the one to watch to make room in the lineup and reduce stock? Then again, this is price gouging nvidia… so can’t expect much concession.

4080 S not worth it from current specs available. Ti S could get close to 4080 performance, but all depends on price as to where to buy in…

      • +2

        4090 3000
        4080S 2200
        4080 1800
        4070*TS 1400
        4070T 1100
        4070S 900
        4070 800

I think it will be something like this. Only mid range will see some better price. High end. Most likely very similar to now.

  • +4

    Hold!

    • +4

      HODL**

Geez, I remember a period of time where that acronym was used more than lol.

    • I was gonna say, it's only about double the reasonable price for a xx70 card this late in it's lifecycle.

I'll see how the GPU market looks in another 6 months, I guess…

  • I got my 4070Ti Ventus for $1300 down to $1100 in May with the CA Ebay deal and even sold the Diablo code for $60 so $1040 it really cost me, I'm surprised they're still this high… It's running flawless atm…

will be interesting what the Supers are priced at

    • I bought a mint condition 4070 TI last month for $950 off eBay and it’s been fantastic

    • +1

That’s getting more to the ballpark…. except we’re now 6 mths on, with new supers around the corner… so WTF with pricing still nvidia !

      • -1

The buying power of your AUD is in the toilet plus all Ada Lovelace silicon has a AI halo

        • Considering they just potentially lost like 5b worth of gpu sales since they can't sell to china anymore, Ai halo might not be around for all too much longer.

          • @JerraJones: dont bet on it. they are at the bleeding edge.. plenty of business not in china.

      • +1

Yeah something stinks about the pricing, sure the AUD is crap but ps5 and Xbox have gone down in the same time , I got a ps5 for $600 and playing games in OLED TV is not much different to pc, this price is for dummies

        • +1

yeah but also ps5 and xbox are 3 years old now . 3070 was released close to them and is now 450$ bnib if you are lucky

          • +1

@Micsmit: Please post any 3070 deals if you find one. I’m looking at paying that for used atm.

        • If you think playing a ps5 is not much different than playing PC.. then this chat is not really for you.
We have just entered a phase where PC is a half generation ahead again..
which will be pegged back when ps5 pro comes out next year.

          • -1

@Micsmit: You don't know what your talking about, first of there are a bunch of games you can't even play on PC that are on ps5
PC is better for competitive gaming and enthusiastic who want to play 4k , that's about it .
Most of the other ppl and kids fall in the middle and consoles are amazing value

            • @botchie: Oh they are definitely good value from a casual user and hardware point of view.
              Don't get me wrong.

But honestly alot of PC people really love the technology and being involved in it, plus they often know how to get their games very cheaply.

  • +3

1.2k for a 70 series card lol, 1.2k is 80/titan class territory. i ain't buying garbage pricing nvidia.
