So tempting, but thinking about replacing the nvme ssd on my computer is dreadful

    • How so?

      • probably cable management/cooling

      • +5

I havent touched it in a while, so a bit of that and laziness.

Gotta drag the massive case out (kinda regret getting such a big case), remove gpu, shuffle around the radiator, to get to the motherboard cover to remove it and install the ssd. Then install everything back in and putting the cables in.

I probably only need to upgrade it to 2tb, but the whole process makes me want to just skip to 4tb

I might have to buy an nvme enclosure to migrate the old nvme to the new one too

        • Sounds like it could make a great Xmas holiday task or a fun weekend handiwork if you already have a spare computer :D

        • I might have to buy an nvme enclosure to migrate the old nvme to the new one too

This is me on every m.2 deal lately.
And then i go "might as well get a new mobo with 2 x m.2 slots instead since mines b450 and stuck on pcie 3.0."
And then "might as well get a new platform if im getting a new mobo" and then im like "oh well, guess ill wait for a simultaneous cpu, mobo and ddr5 ram deal before i buy this m.2."
Its never gonna happen is it?

        • Same here, and my old 1TB SX8200 pro needs replacing desperately as I'm constantly running out of space thanks to all those new juicy AI models.

The problem, I have a Croshair Hero VIII, 5950x with a Noctuna NH-D15 cooler and a 3090. The slot I'm using for the boot NVMe is right near the GPU and the cooler. Will need to remove the CPU cooler and possibly even the GPU to get access to the slot. Used that slot as it's connected directly to the CPU rather than the south bridge. 4TB Would be so nice though.

        • So….10 minute's?

        • Pros of big case is more efficient cooling. I'm running on mATX case here, the GPU sit about 1.5cm on top of the base of the casing, runs pretty hot (88-91C) on graphic heavy games especially during summer, forcing me to always having to remove the glass casing everytime i play games.

  • I feel like that heatsink won't fit in my laptop

4TB 990 pro has been sold for $200USD on the Samsung US site for military/first responders, may well go into the ~$320AUD range for black friday

    • A disappointing prediction in hindsight.

  • +1

With the GCX 6% off Amazon gift card, you could make it $379

    • Good callout, purchased $1000 of gift cards today in preparation. My body is ready

      • Waiting to stack with cashback too.

  • WD SN850X 4TB $410 @ Amazon US via AU: https://www.amazon.com.au/Western-Digital-Black-CSSD-Factor/…
seems to be some sort of a limited deal? it says 0% claimed. I would still go for a 990 pro though

    • +1

Saw that too. This deal was also started as limited with a counter with 0% claimed. Maybe the price will stay the same until the Black Friday week or when stock runs out.

    • why is the wd drive so much more than the 990 pro

      • it's like $6 more wdym

        • i am talking about non discounted price.. $750 for WD vs $500 for 990 pro

  • Just received mine, happy days

    • Wow. That was fast because it was sent from the UK.

  • I know, it said 2nd of December on amazon but they just delivered it.

Can confirm they come with the latest available firmware on them.

It’s good that you bought one. These sold out before Black Friday and the ones that ship from Amazon US didn’t go below $428.
