Yo. I've been watching this charger since missing out on the $99 deal in July. Borrowed a mates to bring back an AGM motorcycle battery, and unlike my other two chargers (ALDI and other) it actually worked. The other two chargers didn't even detect a battery or just chucked an error.

Rating is 4.8 on Amazon, this is from the CTEK store. Camels says its a good deal https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/product/B075XSPGM7

From the site:

CTEK MXS 5.0, Battery Charger 12V With Built In Temperature Compensation, Motorcycle And Car Charger, Smart Battery Charger, Battery Maintainer With Reconditioning Mode And Dedicated AGM Mode

NOTE: If you spend over 150 there seems to be a ZIPpay $10 off.

Have had this since Covid. Highly recommended.

  • Highly recommend.
I know at least 20, 30, or more people in my car clubs that use this charger. Including myself.

    • Same with a few folks I know with motorcycles.

      What kind of car club?

      • +1

The HSV Owners Club in particular.
But also run a couple of reasonably large enthusiast groups on FB.

  • Great charger. Use it to keep my car / motorbike topped up.

  • Mine gets pretty hot to the touch while charging a dead battery.

im a fan of cteks - have them on fpr my motorbikes… downside is no Li capability, add 30aud you can get the kickass one which has Li capability also that one is 20a.

    • How do these compare to the ctek ones? Has anyone have any experience with the kickass ones?

  • i am waiting for my order to arrive. will chime in the future about its performance.

Im a massive fan of CTEK, been using it for over a decade however you cant go past Victron's Blue Smart IP65 Chargers these days… Charges LiFePO4, Bluetooth too if you want to track progress etc and consider it an update/upgrade to the CTEK

$100 here minus whatever codes your have

Yep, I have 3 Ctek chargers…. downfall, no lithium charging

I've been looking at the Victron too and have some OzB alerts set up for Victron deals

    • Is that the same connect plug as the Ctek, I've got two bikes and a car with CTek connections

    • will ctek cable work with victron?

  • Recommend this I use it to trickle charge my weekend car. Has also charged it from flat no troubles on more than one occasion. Great product.

  • Do I need this for my daily commuting CRV? 15 km round trip a day and one ~100 km trip every month.

Well, my Himalayan has a small draw at rest (which I'm pondering) plus I'm a weekend only rider. I start it up once a week and trickle charge maybe once every 2-4 weeks. This model brought mine back and reconditioned it after being fully run down.

Lots of different opinions, but I was recommend a trickle charger with some smarts like the CTEK. I'm told lead acid batteries have something called sulphination(?) that impacts battery life, which this model and others can reduce. Judging by the popularity of CTEK deals here Ozbargainers seem positive about them (heh).

You'd think a daily commuter would charge it up ok, but not recondition it.

You could always just pop into a motorbike forum and ask, then site back and watch the arguments begin.

  • Just bought my second one of these. The first one (8? years old) has always worked very well except for an intermittent problem of the main button (to change options) not working sometimes. I figure I'll leave one on the Car setting and the other on Motorcycle. :-)
