I just can't justify Ryobi batteries anymore, unless a HP battery, AND HP tool that I actually require the power from. Kmmmm

Meanwhile there's Ozito 4Ah batteries in just about every room

When they're on special, they're not too bad. I have a range of 18v and 36v Ryobi batteries that have all lasted over the years. Can't complain so far.

Oh I have zero complaints on quality. I have my very first batteries still in use, they're 12yra old next year!
But lithium batteries themselves shouldn't last that long though, so I don't expect them all to. Which means if I can purchase 3 Ozito most of the year for the price of 2 Ryobi only at limited times, then I'll opt for the quantity of consumable resource myself

        • If they're not being cycled and charged to 100% daily no reason they won't comfortably do 10+ years.

Age doesn't mean a lot to most lithium chemistries.

          • @virtual81: Source? Lithium cell degradation is well documented. Like storing at 100% SoC is documented to increase the degradation rate than at ideal (nominal) voltage.
The other degradation factor highly relevant to Australian conditions is heat. Over 35c is a steep cliff for cells over periods of days weeks and months of exposure.

The biggest common scenario for this phenomena is laptops which are permanently attached to power age faster than those which are performing cycling. It's why most laptops have a power option to enable ABM of always connected devices.

Unless you really need a small capacity battery + charger, you are better off getting or waiting for a kit with these included. One such amazing kit came up here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/909088

    • Kicking myself for only buying one.

      • +5

Yeah, I posted that deal and didn't buy even one myself! I am an idiot:)

          Haha!

Is $99 for a 4 ah battery and charge a good deal guys?

    That's racist!!!

  • I already have an adapter for ozito batteries on Ryobi equipment, it works like a charm, so no more those heavy bulky and expensive Ryobi batteries.

    • Im with you, except I will always keep HP batteries from Ryobi for obvious reasons. And to be fair, they're hardly much bigger and bulkier and certainly not heavier by any significant margin. The bulk that is there is impact resistance.

Just pulled some quick data (blame AI for discrepancies) numbers are heavily skewed because of the post (L) on Ryobi (usually 1in/25.4mm), with about 1cm (orR 0.5cm rubber outer surround) difference, but once you step away from the 4Ah, Ozito quickly falls behind… I didn't expect over 100g weight though, but ryobi differs quite alot across its range so who knows which specific models these are. Ozito 18V PXC 4.0Ah
