I say it every time, this community is amazing and thank you for all the support we have received. Besides the obvious orders and upvotes, the constructive feedback and ability to engage with the community directly is amazing. So anyway, here is our Black Friday promotion, with an additional offer on top of our last WPI deal, and I hope it represents great value again.

Otherwise, if you're on a Club Z Free trial period, you will not earn the Club Z points, but you still get the repeat or new customer Z points back.

WPI Flavours

We now have 22 flavours available to choose from.

Our new releases for this deal are: Choc Cherry Delight (inspired by one of my favourite chocolate bars), Melon Milk (a new Asian inspired flavour), Iced Chai Latte (since Iced Coffee has been so popular and we have had a few requests)

We have kept our popular Asian inspired flavour releases (they were originally limited edition, but we decided to keep them) - Taro Milk Ice Cream, Pandan and Coconut Gelato and Matcha Green Tea Ice Cream.

All flavours are naturally sweetened. We have transitioned over to thaumatin for the fact that it is an all natural plant based sweetener, a superior flavour profile, a neutral insulin impact (as it is a protein) and being very gentle on the gut. A bit of trivia, thaumatin is about 10x the cost of artificial counterparts (eg. sucralose) and more than 5x the cost of stevia based on weight! Our focus remains on product quality.

Also note the Unflavoured option is straight WPI with just sunflower lecithin added at the point of manufacture to assist in mixing and reduce frothing (less than 1% w/w). There is no sweetener.

Flavour Availability:

Flavour availability will change throughout the deal. I will this area updated as flavours run out.

  • On Backorder (Can be backordered): Mint Choc Chip (More stock being produced Friday Dec 1st)
  • In Stock: All other flavours

Product Breakdown

  • 100% Australian Blended and Packed in our Sydney Facility
  • Our manufacturing facility is owned by us and is a NSW Licensed Food Facility with an approved Dairy Processing license
  • For the nutritional information for each flavour, please click on the "Nutritional Info" tab. The best macros are for Unflavoured (Per serve: 29.7g P / 0.3g F / 0.4g C), and the flavour breakdowns will be variable. All other flavours have less than 1g of fat per serve and 1.2-3.7g of carbs/serve. The newer Aussie Choc Malt is the only exception with 9.9g carbs/serve (from the malt component) - I highly recommend it for the taste, avoid if you want to keep the carbs down.
Aussie Choc Malt has a notably different macronutrient profile to other flavours. Following a formulation earlier in the year, we added real malt into this protein powder which brings the total protein percentage down to 64.4% (whereas most other flavours will be 80-90%, with a few of the chocolates and Neapolitan range between 76-80%). The flavour profile in the Aussie Choc Malt is amazing, but be aware that there are extra carbs from the malt that make the flavour amazing.
  • We only use WPI in this protein - this is not a blend of other cheaper proteins (for example Whey Protein Concentrate/WPC)
  • Protein is added hormone free, ultra and micro filtered and cold pressed
  • Naturally sweetened with thaumatin (except Cinnamon Icing which uses stevia). We do not use artificial sweeteners.
  • Soy free - we use sunflower lecithin instead of soy lecithin (soy is common in whey proteins)
  • Backed by our 110% Guarantee. Try it and if you don't love it, we'll give you 110% back (in store credit) or a full refund (including delivery). As I mentioned in the video, we offer this so you can try the product risk-free. If you've opened it up to try it we're not going to make you send it back either.

Commonly Asked - Amino Z WPI / ON 100% Whey / Musashi 100% Whey (The 3 most popular proteins here on OzBargain)

In almost all of our prior WPI deals, I have been asked how our WPI compares to two other very popular products on OzBargain that we sell (Optimum Nutrition 100% Gold Standard Whey and Musashi 100% Whey).

One thing I want to emphasise is that we sell all three products and despite us obviously having a vested interest in our own brand, we firmly stand behind the quality of all three products (hence why we stock all of them).

Last deal, I asked our team to put together a comprehensive and objective video detailing many key differences between the three products. So if you're interested, the video can be seen at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LBeV33fArc

Obviously taste will come down to personal preference so we haven't touched on this, we have instead focussed on key attributes of each product. I hope this presents a fair representation of each.

Other Notes/Common Questions

  • Choose Multiple Flavours: We pack these into 1kg pouches. Choose the multi-flavour option for 4 (or 5) different flavours.
  • Packaging: All our WPI now has the new zipper packaging. We are still working to improve the pouches for anyone who has experienced issues with the zipper. You can purchase a plastic tub separately (select the option just above the "Add to Cart" button). If you experience any issues please reach out to us and we will rectify this at our cost.
  • Nutritional Information: To view the full nutritional panel, just click on the "NUTRITIONAL INFO" tab on the page and then select the flavour.
  • Best Before Dates: Best before dates will be 18-24 months away. We turn this product over very quickly so all current stock has been produced recently.
  • Free Delivery: You will get free delivery on your entire order when you order any Amino Z or Bandito Labs supplements.
  • Applying Store Credit: To apply existing store credit (Z Points), firstly make sure that you are logged in. Then, go into checkout and after entering your delivery and shipping choice, select "Load Payment Methods". Once loaded, you will see an option entitled "Spend Your Points". Click this and then enter how many points you wish to apply as a discount to your order. You can apply points acquired from previous deals to this purchase.
  • Applying the Coupon Code: Please apply the coupon code in your shopping cart before checking out.
  • 30% Discount: The 30% discount will be off the full price before discount, not on the already discounted price.
  • Receiving Store Credit: Store credit is assigned as "Z Points" to your account within 10 days of your order shipping. It can then be applied to any future order that you place.
  • Store Credit Limit: There is a limit of one lot of bonus store credit per person during the promotional period. You can order more than 5kg of WPI, but the store credit will be capped so we can stay in business and keep doing deals like these.
  • Other Store Credit Info: Store credit does NOT expire. Also, you do NOT have to be a Club Z member to retain your store credit.
  • Club Z: Our Club Z membership program is a paid subscription with the most common membership being $9.99/month with $10 back/month for each monthly renewal. This is different to having an account on our website. We frequently run Club Z bonus offers, such as in this deal where anyone who was already an existing active and paid Club Z member (immediately prior to launching this promo) will receive a total of $65 back in Z Points ($75 for 5kg). Full info here.
  • Referral Codes: Please note that this offer won't stack with our referral code offer, nor any other offers.
  • Scoops: We include scoops in each bag of product.
  • Our 5 most popular flavours: Chocolate, Vanilla, Aussie Choc Malt, Iced Coffee and Matcha Green Tea Ice Cream.

      • Nice, thanks for posting @scotty and thank you for the support again!

        Jay

    • Does the ice coffee taste anything like ice break? or the other flavoured ice coffee milks?

      • @Pleasure Paulie thanks for asking. I haven't personally tried Ice Break, but it has a similar flavour profile to an iced coffee milk once added into milk. In water it's more watery with a slight milk underdone from the whey protein isolate. We use actual coffee in this product, so it does actually taste like coffee and has caffeine in it, it isn't a coffee flavour additive.

I hope this helps and thanks for your interest.

How does the Aussie choc malt flavour have 25g of carbs per 100g?

    • +2

      Thanks for asking @antik

This one tastes amazing, but it is loaded with carbs. We actually add in malt to the mix.

We did this as a bit of an experiment as all of our other flavours are significantly lower in carbohydrate. But it's been one of our most popular flavours, so we've kept the higher-carb version of this.

Obviously steer clear of this flavour if you're watching your carb intake though.

      Thanks for asking!

      Jay

      • +2

Thanks Jay, is the unflavoured palatable on its own?

        • @antik thanks for asking and sorry I missed this before, but I replied to second question here.

          Here's what I wrote:

          Thanks for asking @antik

It's a mild milky taste. It's okay and drinkable, but personally I would only use it in a smoothie (or something else already flavoured). If you're sensitive for flavour, I'd avoid it as it will be no where near as nice as a flavoured option.

That said, plenty of people drink unflavoured for the best macronutrient profile though, since there is no flavouring added in.

          I hope that helps.

          Jay

If we're not on a existing Club Z membership do we still get the $50 credit?

    • +1

      Thanks for asking @Tahiti

Yes you will. If you've shopped with us before, you get $55 credit. If not, you get $50 credit. You do not have to be a Club Z member to get this deal.

      I hope this clarifies.

      Jay

  • Amazing. Ordered again.
The choc malt tastes so good.I noticed that the protein content is a bit low compared to the other flavours.
Is there a way to increase the protein content of this flavour without compromising on taste Jay ?

    • +1

Thanks for the new order and ongoing support @varunbabu008

This was by design and for the Choc Malt, we decided to really go hard on flavour which did come at the expense of the protein percentage. For this one, we added in malt to have a true malt flavour. That's why it tastes so good, but it does come at the expense of the macros.

The other flavours are all going to be higher in total protein percentage.

We are looking to further improve this flavour, so it's not out of the question. And I will certainly pass this feedback along to the team too.

      Thanks @varunbabu008

      Jay

    • You can just use a bit more of it in the shaker.

      • Ha ha. I don't want the extra carbs. Trying to cut

  • Thanks!

will look tonight. On last bag of isolate.

Any casein deals or a mixed protein deal?

Also any further deals on the preworkouts?

    • Awesome, thank you for the support @docmartin

Yes, we have 30% off all caseins and all our Amino Z branded proteins. Free delivery too. Just use this same code.

The pre-workouts are also 30% off with free delivery under this code.

      I hope this helps.

Amino Z is fantastic! I've been a Club Z member for over 12 months, and their service/products are outstanding.

The only suggestion I have is regarding the zipper on the bags of WPI and pre-workout; it tends to break off easily and is challenging to reattach, leaving the bags open to air. It would be highly appreciated if this issue could be addressed and resolved

    • Thanks so much for the ongoing support @Jr64 and the kind words.

I greatly appreciate the feedback on the zippers and I agree, we are actively working on this issue.

(I'm copying this from above as someone else just mentioned this too)

To let you know where we are at, we have been back and forth with a number of suppliers trying to find a better solution and we have recently found a supplier that we are very confident will be able to provide us with a much better pouch. Anyway we finally confirmed our initial order with them last week and so we're hoping to roll out the new packaging early in the new year. Until then we're trying to work with the current pouches as best as we can (eg. extra testing), but we are still seeing some issues here and there.

Of course if you receive faulty packaging please feel free to reach out to our team and we'll look after you.

Thanks again @Jr64 and we will have this fixed soon enough.

      Jay

  • Still got 4kg from previous deal. Once that’s done, I’ll be sure to get more from you guys!:)

  • Great work as always Jay, thanks for looking after us! Sad to see cinnamon icing gone as once I finally bit the bullet that was bloody delish! But plenty of new flavours to try, hope you've done that legendary chocolate bar justice ;)

    Cheers!

      Haha thanks @Dandaman21

I personally loved the new Choc Cherry whose trademarked name we shall not identify :) But that's my humble opinion and I'm just a little biased.

      Thanks for the support!

  • Hey Jay, what about the Vegan one??

    • The Vegan range will be 30% off with free delivery under this deal.

We are looking into doing a dedicated Vegan deal in the future, but just no firm plans right now.

I'll pass this feedback along to the team too.

      Thanks @mc7alazoun

I am a happy Amino Z customer so this is not a neg but something to be aware of. If you drink flavoured options, know that there is large variance in how much % protein there is in each of the flavours. The lowest being Aussie Choc Malt (65%) and the highest being Melon Milk (87%).

If you primarily care about flavour and aren't all that fussed about the protein content then just choose the ones you like and go nuts. If you're more like me and you want good value and high protein content (flavour is not as important), then please have a read of the nutritional info and choose accordingly.

    • +1

Thanks for sharing this @Xastros and I 100% agree with what you're saying here.

The Aussie Choc Malt is lower in protein and higher in carbs, particularly due to the presence of malt. We have leaned much more heavily into the flavour profile on this option. It's still very much up for debate internally what we do about this long-term because it does contrast to the macro profile in our other flavours.

A key insight from your feedback is that the Aussie Choc Malt is particularly different from a macro profile to the rest of the range and this contrast does not result in a consistent product offering. I do note that the other flavours are not identical either, but they have a much higher protein amount.

I do appreciate the feedback and this is something I will be highlighting to the team. It is very valuable.

      Jay

      • +1

If you want to be transparent with your customers, the solution is to standardise your serving sizes across your range so the flavours are easier to compare.

You mentioned discussing this internally when it was raised back in September during your previous deal.

        • +2

          Thanks @Pantagonist

Yes it was raised in the prior deal and we have discussed this at length (and are continuing to do so and I will also make a point of this discussion thread once this promotion concludes as this is particularly helpful).

You raise a particularly valid point and I do appreciate this feedback because it is very constructive.

I'll give a bit of a background to outline the challenge we're facing here and what we have discussed since the last deal off the back of that prior feedback.

Our original choc malt flavour profile was more in-line from a macro point of view, but the flavour profile was substandard relative to this current release (the "New and improved" version). We had numerous requests to improve this flavour. So before the last deal, we released the new version which had a higher carb amount.

The feedback we have received on the "New and Improved" version has been overwhelmingly positive and we have a very high rate of repurchase. It is now one of our top sellers with a lot of customers repurchasing this particular flavour.

However it is an outlier with the macro profile as discussed.

So right now we are internally debating exactly this. On one hand we continue to consider exactly what you are suggesting in relation to standardising the range with the macros (as best as we can within a certain threshold - clearly the choc malt is a major outlier). Meanwhile we have an exceptionally popular flavour in the choc malt. Discontinuing this will result in a lot of disappointed customers.

Following on from the prior feedback last deal, we have been trying to work on a better macro profile in the choc malt. We have been unsuccessful to date and all the internal trials just have not come close. Our team has trialled probably over 50 options without the malt component and it's chalk and cheese.

We are continuing to work on the choc malt to find a better alternative. Our ideal outcome is to release a comparable flavour but with reduced carbs, but we aren't there yet.

We are also toying with moving this under a different product altogether. We have held off on this just on the basis of the popularity and repurchase rate of the choc malt option under the existing product.

Having said that, this is an ongoing project with we are working on, because both I, (and the team), agree with the importance of product consistency.

Anyway, that's just a bit of background on the matter presently. I do welcome any feedback or thoughts on this because it is currently a challenge we are facing which we have not resolved and any insights will assist us tremendously.

Thanks again for the feedback, it helps us a lot.

          Jay

          • @aminozcomau: Hi Jay,

Thanks for the detailed reponse. I haven't tried the new formulation but I'd say it's popularity is due to its flavour which in turn is due to its nutrient profile being totally different to all other WPI products on the market. That's my biggest issue with it. It's marketed as a WPI which might technically be true as far as the base product included, but it has a lot of filler in there making it less of a pure WPI at a premium price point.

Comparison of your Choc Malt WPI vs. Choc WPC below as an example using per 100g for ease of comparision. These are the big red flags for me.

WPI has less protein per equal serve than WPC (64.4g vs. 71.1g)
WPI has more sugar per equal serve than WPC (16.7g vs. 6.3g)
WPI has more carbs per equal serve than WPC (24.5g vs. 10.5g)

It just feels like cynical marketing to me and preys on people who don't individually check each flavour's 100g macros and then convert to their usual serving size. It looks like you're trying to hide something by jacking up the standard serving sizes of your products to make the protein component look better.

I just grabbed a bag of another product out of my pantry that uses 30g serves as standard across their range. Similar price point to you. Choc-based flavour.

30g serve has 25.6g protein, 0.5g fat and 1.3g carbs (of which 0.3g are sugars).

If I convert the two Amino Z products above to 30g serves:

Choc Malt WPI - 19.3g protein, 0.5g fat, 7.4g carbs (of which 5g are sugars).
Choc WPC - 21.3g protein, 2g fat, 3.2g carbs (of which 1.9g are sugars).

Big difference. If I had to choose between the macro profile of the WPC and WPI I'd take the former any day - and it's cheaper!

If I drink WPI I'm basically only interested in the protein made palatable enough through minimal additives.

Once I start getting 5g of sugar per 30g serve I might as well go make myself a Milo for a treat. 5g of sugar and less than 20g of protein per 30g serve isn't a WPI in my book.

I do like most of the flavours of yours I've tried but don't primarily buy from you due to the difficulty in comparing them all and need to re-check nutritional info regularly due to reformulations (I just keep a shortlist of your "best" products for when they go on sale). Personally I think if you leaned more into marketing the natural sweetener that isn't stevia angle then you would have a point of difference with a lot of other products. If that came with a bump in protein content then I don't see how you would have any problem justifying a higher price point and becoming a premium product. I'd definitely pay $5 a bag more if I knew I was getting the best product on the market.

            • @Pantagonist: Hi @Pantagonist and thanks for taking the time to read through my reply and provide this additional insight.

These are exceptionally good points raised. Thanks for highlighting the macro comparison with this choc malt flavour. I believe this is a very important point and I do take your point that this can be seen as marketing a WPI with a lack of transparency.

This feedback, particularly coming directly from a customer of ours, is especially powerful. The main point we have discussed internally is the lack of consistency in macro profiles due to this choc malt flavour being such an outlier. However what has not been raised is how it can compare to a WPC profile and the potential negative impact on our brand/product reputation with some customers as you have very clearly highlighted. I also take note of the difficulty in comparing the nutritional profiles of all our flavours - there is quite a range and obviously variation as mentioned.

Given that this flavour is one of 22 currently, there is obviously an inherent risk to us if a customer picks up this bag, looks at the macros and then dismisses the entire range based on this.

I also greatly appreciate the note in relation to your suggestion of marketing the thaumatin along with the bump in protein.

This is something I will be forwarding to our team right now and we will be discussing further at the conclusion of this promotion. To be honest, it will be more of a healthy internal debate. I think this feedback provides a very unique and customer-specific perspective that we may not have fully explored and therefore considered.

Once again, thanks for this. It is exceptionally valuable and it's not every day you get this type of constructive feedback. I am unsure what the outcome of this will be specifically because there are a number of considerations to address and I am note the sole decision maker, but it will be a priority.

By the way, if you (or anyone else) has any other feedback on this matter it would be greatly appreciated so we can take this into consideration as we discuss further and decide on a course of action. Thanks again!

              Jay

            • @Pantagonist: How is it difficult to compare? Click on their website and look at the nutritional information of the flavour, it takes 30 seconds. This ia exactly what you should be doing buying from other companies or checking the back of the container in the store.

              • @Pleasure Paulie: If there is a reason the Melon Milk flavour has a standard serving size of 30g and the current formulation of Aussie Choc Malt flavour has a standard serving size of 40.4g then I'm happy to be told why.

My theory is that it is to elevate the apparent protein content of the product and catch out people who glance at the nutritional information but don't take the time to look at the serving size or 100g content. I'm happy to be told the actual reason if this isn't the case.

If you look across the flavours, there appears to have been an attempt to boost the per serving protein amount to 26g or more by slightly increasing serving sizes beyond the standard 30g / included scoop size that seems to be the norm across most other WPI manufacturers that I've come across. It's just more obvious when it comes to Choc Malt.

Tinkering with serving sizes is a common tactic to make a product appear better or less worse than it actually is. See most confectionary as an example . The serving sizes are often way smaller than what an average person will actually consume each time.

                • @Pantagonist: Thanks for sharing your thoughts @Pleasure Paulie and @Pantagonist - all very helpful which I am taking note of.

@Pantagonist great point raised. Specially in relation to your query about the varying serving size, we did do this in order to maintain a more consistent protein per serve given the variation in macronutrients.

I totally see where you're coming from. Aussie Choc Malt, due to a lower protein percentage, therefore has a higher serving amount. So while we're not necessarily trying to make it look better or worse than it actually is as everything is clearly stated there, I do take your point that when considering the macronutrient profile, the protein percentage on this flavour is lower. Therefore, the price per gram of protein in this flavour is the highest in the entire range of our WPI.

But I also think it's worth noting that I completely see your point of view where the interpretation of this is that we may be trying to make the protein look better than what it is by boosting the serving size. So please don't take this as me trying to be defensive here. There is a lack of consistency across the flavours. I'm sure that any other consumer looking at this range could easily draw the same conclusion.

That is going to be a key point of discussion for us. Transparency is important for us as a company and it is a core value of ours. While it is one thing to list everything objectively, it is also a very valid point raised by you previously that part of transparency is consistency. And that's where I think there is room for improvement.

So anyway, this is going to be a very helpful point of view for us to consider when we talk further about this. The risk of us being perceived as being deceptive by being inconsistent across flavours is an important point for us to consider. The fact is that the Aussie Choc Malt is not a cheaper product for us to produce, so we have to weigh up the risk of disappointing a customer and the subsequent risk to our reputation versus the flavour profile on this flavour in particular.

@Pantagonist (and anyone else for that matter), I strongly welcome your further feedback on this and what I have said. If I'm missing the mark here please let me know. I cannot tell you how grateful I am for sharing this point of view because it's only going to allow us to make better decisions and provide better value to you and our customers.

                  Thanks again!

                  Jay

  • Some notes on flavours:

    • Banana. Tastes great, but the texture is a bit off, it doesn't mix super well, and I found it sort of gummed up my shaker.
    • "Smooth milk chocolate". Flavour is OK, but again it feels like it doesn't mix as well - I often had residue in the bottom.
    • "Chocolate" (regular): my favourite so far. Great taste, mixes really smoothly.
    • Thanks for sharing this and I appreciate the feedback @drillvoice

I'll also pass this along to the team.

Amazing protein, amazing customer service and amazing price. Hands down, the best company to buy protein from.

My favourite WPI flavours are matcha ice cream, taro, iced coffee and smooth chocolate.

I’ve also been using their casein powder and creatine, and they’re just as good. Taste great and mix well, no grainy texture.

    • Thanks for the upvote and ongoing support of our brand @pinkyfinkle! I really appreciate the kind words.

      Jay

    • Agreed re creatine - I find creatine tastes awful, but at least with this one it's easy to get it down quickly. Great texture.

      • Thanks for sharing and for the feedback on this @drillvoice. This is helpful insight for us too.

  • Does anyone have feedback on the old version (stevia) vs. the new thaumatin sweetening?

I ordered a while ago and hated it due to the the stevia taste.

    • It's very different @Infamous - the stevia has a very strong bitter taste to a small percentage of the population which overpowers the flavour profile.

But since we have released thaumatin, we have also reformulated all the flavour profiles.

If you try the new range and don't like them, feel free to hit us up with the 110% Guarantee too.

      Jay

      • Were you guys using pure Reb-A 97 stevia extract or something else?

        • We were using this, yes.
