It's not necessarily new customers. Existing customers can hit the artificial CVC limit if it doesn't get increased in time. nbn is removing CVC on 100/20 and faster speeds on December 1st.

      • So does this mean it doesnt matter which retail you goi with if you're on 100/20 and above plans? Technically all the same?

        • I’m interested in understanding this also.

        • +1

          Not all the same.

nbn infrastructure to your property is only a part of it. The ISP manages backhaul links, peering, POPs and there are ISPs that don't offer all the speed tiers. Some ISPs perform better than others even on the same speed tier. It is not just about customer service and support.

          • @Twix: So does this mean that post Dec 1, plans of 100/20 or more will perform more or less the same, regardless of retailer?

            • +1

@Pratty: No it still depends on the ISPs network.

  • I was looking at Leaptel & Superloop to move away form ABB.. but this is tempting.

Only problem is, i cannot find any of my log in information lol

  • Is anyone having issues with the code not working? Trying to user "SUPERBF" for the 1000/50 plan but get an "invalid code" message at checkout.

FWIW I'm currently with Superloop on 250/25.

    • it's SUPERUPBF

    • +1

Hi @tonydav, apologies we had some issues this morning with the promo code not applying via checkout. We've found and fixed these and things should be working as intended now! Adam

      • Hi Adam, I've got a question. Which cable do you guys use to connect Perth to Sydney? And ping should I expect gaming on LAN from Perth to Sydney?

With Exetel I'm getting 54 ping minimum to Sydney in perfect conditions, then on weekends it jumps up and down between 60 and 80 ping during congestion periods.

  • +1

I jumped in with Aussie in the early days as was having service issues and the customer service was fantastic. Just tried to use them again for a new connection and unfortunately the service is now horrific. Wasted 2 months chasing my tail with them, took TPG a week to get to the same stage that Aussie did, and raising complaints with them was beyond pointless, couldn't care less. Unfortunately just another bulk comms co now.

  • "Promo/referral code invalid"

    • Hi @Sharp, thanks for letting us know, we found and fixed the error in the system this morning and it should be working as intended now! Adam

  • +1

Yep same here , only 2 months using code not 12. Ive never had a problem with service from abb always top notch. Had a problem in the last 12 months and was fixed quickly and with great customer support.

    • Hi @levidog apologies for this, we found and fixed this issue this morning, the promo will be applied for 12 months. Adam

  • +1

Does Aussie have a static IP option?

    • +2

As standard they are what they call "sticky IP". So tends to stay fixed. That's been my experience.

    • +1

      Extra $5/month

  • Last deal not long ago only 6 months and now 12 months?

  • The code worked to upgrade my existing 100/20 connection to 250/25.

    • Did the same but the email notice of plan change doesn’t mention any discounts at all. Will see if next bill has it or not.

  • Spoke to them on chat why the codes aren't working correctly. Unfortunately no help apart from to call the sales team.

  • +3

can't use the code if you're already on 1000/50 :(

  • no discount for lower speeds? dissapointing

  • This is a great deal! Love Aussie broadband. Was thinking about whether to jump to 1000/50 from 250/25 after the recent price cut, but this makes it a no brainer. I’ve gone from $129 for 250/25 to $109 for 1000/50!

The promo code was accepted when I changed, but I can’t see any reference to the discount anywhere now.

  • +2

So if you're already on 1000/50, can you still get the discount?

    • +1

Yeah I want to know this, even though this deal says Existing customers, how would I apply it? I also have a 1000/50 plan currently but I don't see any way in the MyAussie portal to apply a discount code to my plan.

    • I was on this with AussieBB and asked if they could match Superloops plan (same speeds) @ $99 for 6 months $109.00 there after. They guy said no, the lowest he could offer (at that time) was $129.00 p/month. I'm with Superloop now.

I can not see why they would not be able to do that for existing users now. Just politely advise them (threaten) to switch if they can't give the better rate.

Speeds have not changed for me after the switch. Just as fast as it was with AussieBB, just saving $20 a month/ $240 a year now (plus another $60 for the first 6 months). Happy dayz…

      • I switched to ABB a few months ago from More and didn't really notice any appreciable difference. In fact I've noticed a few peak slowdowns which was I was quite unimpressed by.

      • Just FYI, I just churn between Superloop and Exetel at the end of six months now as same HFC experience for me.
Get the six months discount deal each time.
Save up speed boost days and do the last month/notice period on boost and then do it all again.
Only issue is CGNAT with Superloop but they change that on the fly first day when you say the house security system is playing up!

    • Maybe downgrade plan for a day and upgrade back to 1000/50 with the promo? I'm trying to find a solution too.

      • +2

You can't have downgraded in the previous 4 months.

    • I'm also on 1000/50 with $20 off via an earlier 6 month coupon ($20 off $149 = $129).
I called to see if I could use this coupon. Was told I can only have one coupon active.

The terms clearly state we're not eligible, as we're not upgrading our plan.

Offer 4: Existing residential nbn® & OptiComm customers who have not downgraded from the 250/25 or 1000/50 plan in the last 4-months, and who aren’t already on the 250/25 or 1000/50 plan. You must upgrade to either the 250/25 or 1000/50 plan to be eligible.

Looks like Aussie's new plan pricing starts today (if this is accurate).

For anyone else with this $20 off coupon active on their plan, I was told that the $20 off would be applied to the new plan price of $129 on the next invoice. Making this 1000/50 plan $109 until March 2024. Not as good as the 12 month BF deal, but not bad.

    • Hi @atlas, if you're already on the 1000/50 plan unfortunately no, the price reduction on the plan will occur for customers already on the 1000/50 plan. Adam

      • +4

Yeah that's unfortunate. Guess who won't be hanging around then.

    • i just called up and they said if ur not upgrading to it, then you cant…

  • Anyone tried to ask them about to extend us to 12 months from last deal. We actually only got 5 months because the first month still $149-$20

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/794580

    • @AdamABB Hi Rep, online support won't extend me from 6 months to 12 months for 1000/50.

That was crazy for existing customer to take up an eariler promo just a month and even not invoice $109 until next month.

Has anyone had issues with a modem/router issued by a provider for use with other providers?

For context: I can only get internet with providers who offer NBN through Opticomm. Currently with iinet, and am using their default provided modem/router.

I'm looking to start churning through different companies every 6-12 months for the discounts, but am wondering if it's better to buy a modem/router outright (for example Google nest) or if I can keep using my iinet provider modem/router with new companies?

I'd prefer the latter option as buying a new modem/router would offset savings from churning - however I don't want to be running into constant issues by using my iinet modem for different companies.

    • You can't get nbn through OptiComm. Your internet comes from nbn or OptiComm. Check here. What does it say?

What is the model number of the iinet modem/router?

      • +1

Apologies, for the confusion - my internet is from Opticomm :)

In terms of the model number - I'm not at home at this very moment to check, however I've checked iinet, and I'm 99% certain that my modem is the TP-Link VR1600v.

I've had this modem for about 4 years now (my previous apartment had NBN and my current one has Opticomm).

        • TP-Link VR1600v can be used with other providers.

          • +1

            @Twix: Perfect thanks!

I had to call iinet when I connected my Opticomm internet, as it wasn't working straight off the bat. The representative assisted me in changing various settings - which eventually got the internet working. Fingers crossed, there aren't too many hiccups when changing providers.

    • Yes, I tried using the Optus modem with Leaptel and many options and speeds are limited. Ended up buying the TP Link from Leaptel.

    • If I were you I would keep using the iinet provided device with any subsequent companies.

      Is your connection VDSL2?

      • Unsure if my connection is VDSL2 - I did have a quick google but didn't find a sure fire way to find out, any tips on how to find this out?

        • Easiest way is if you send a photo of what your connection looks like where it comes into the house.

Is it a thick black cable? Is it a copper (telephone) wire? Is it something else? Are there two boxes? Or just your modem/router?

  • Can anyone advise me how is their Modem on offer, Netcomm NF20MESH medium pack? Does it have an app for Parental controls etc. Tossing between Aussie and Telstra…
Am I better off using Google Nest Wifi Pro availing this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/812426?
    Assuming compatible with FTTP NBN

  • Thanks OP. My 50/20 was moving to $85. So the 100/20 is a "free" upgrade for the next 12mths. Not bad albeit would have preferred higher upload than download.

  • Leaptel is $89 for 1000/50 for 12 months!

No black friday bs, the deal has been active for a while.

edit: $89 if you upgrade to FTTP, $99 otherwise.

    • My experience with Leaptel has been bad at two different addresses over the last 12 months. I signed up to this exact plan and every time I was unable to get speeds anywhere near what they advertised and had many buffering issues on Netflix, Youtube etc both times. Never had an issue with both Superloop and Aussie as I have been switching between them.

      • I just joined the 100/20 on Leaptel and Speed test says I max out around 70.

If I went down to 50/20 I wonder if I would get the 50 or lower speeds.

  • So if you already have FTTP and move to a new provider, what happens if you select the same port?

Also, do you get a credit for the balance of the month at the older ISP?

    • The new provider takes over the same port. Your router WAN settings might need to be changed.

Most ISPs don't give you a pro-rata credit. Aussie does.

      • Does it take long to port from time of order, and do you know if there is any/much downtime on a same port move?

Maybe I should use a new port and then cancel the old one once it's active if I'm not likely to get a refund.

        • +1

Normally under 1 hour. No downtime.

      • +1

Not sure if this is the case anymore, was told no pro rata credit on the phone earlier today

        • They used to. Maybe they stopped recently.

@AdamABB has Aussie stopped doing pro-rata refunds?

  • you can get 100/20 on More telecom for $62 with Commbank rewards

    • have you tried them? I think I have a commbank account

      • I use it for a long time, 100/20 on FTTC from a previous deal. This new deal is shown in Commbak App rewards section (not called Yello or something like that). There will be a promo code specific to you.

        • got it, thanks!!

    • where do you see $62. i see $84.60. is there a BF code or something?

30 % to 40 % discount on normal price, depending on your reward level.

        • +1

Worth noting that the current 3 months free then 10% ongoing deal from More's own website for Commbank customers works out as a 32.5% discount over 12 months. So that would be a better deal than if you are offered 30% discount through CommBank themselves.

Added bonus: you get 3 months free to see if you're satisfied with More's internet offering.

          • @doddles:

            32.5% discount

            isn't it 25 % ? 3/12 = 25 %
may be we can use 3 months free, then move into some other provider with one month free or so, then move back to more with 30 % + discount, not sure though

            • +1

@bazingaa: It's ongoing 10% discount after the first 3 (free) months. So over 12 months:

              Discount = 1 - (0.9 * 9/12) = 0.325

              • +1

@doddles: ah missed it lol, and it would be better as we don't need to keep other eligibility criteria in order, ex : Complete at least 30 eligible outbound transactions each month

  • Been with Leaptel and i pull 110MBps on the 1000mbps plan anytime of the day. Not sure why people are hating on Leaptel. Aussie Broadband once again is meh they always that little bit more expensive with their black friday sales, considering the changes coming up on 1st December with NBN. Disappointing ABB at least match Leaptels.

  • +1

What happens if you are already with Aussie and on a 1000/50 plan and wanted to stay at that speed, i presume no code for that :( . Got 2 plans for me and my folks on the gigabit when the upgrades became available. I guess only way to get a deal is to move or to downgrade.

    • +2

If you're paying $149/m for 1000/50 it automatically changes to $129/m from today. Yeah it's best to change every 6-12 months to get the deals.

    • I'm in the same boat, customer since 2018 and on 1000/50. Had a good whinge, but the agent couldn't help me much. Best he could do was $6 off, which is now (with new pricing today) $123/m.

    • Downgrade for a month, then upgrade. (Or, you can do the instant change option, so downgrade today, then go back in and upgrade tomorrow. Slight bit of effort, but really pretty simple through MyAussie.)

UPDATE: I just tried, and it let me downgrade and use the code (via the MyAussie portal). You just need to change the plan up or down it seems.

  • Just go with leaptel. I switched family over to them and they haven't looked back

  • I'm already on the 100/20 plan and ABB won't apply the promo unless i go up to the 100/40, but it works out the same price so i'm not benefitting at all since i can't even get to 40 upload speed. I hate how companies don't incentivise to keep existing customers.

    • +3

Just leave… why reward them with your loyalty if they can't be bothered earning it?

      • Absolutely, that was enough to push me out.

    • 100% what arctic fox said, ive been with leap[tel for 13 months now.
Got the promo 12 months ago and they extended the promo for another 12 months.
Im paying 75 for 100/20 and will be with them at least 24 months consecutively

  • +1

Upgraded from 100/20 $95 to 250/25 $99 an extra $4.00 a month sounds like a pretty good deal.

  • Been waiting for this Black Friday deal, after 20 plus years with Optus, that last outage was the last straw and signed up a few hours ago.
Already done and ABB now live@1Gb for the same price as the Optus 100Mb I was on!!
Will need to wait till I get home to test it properly.

  • Still on the SPEEDUPGRADE20 deal (250/25 for $109)… but they still haven't reduced the cost of the base plan which still $129 instead of $119 I think??

  • I applied for the plan change to NBN 100/20 with the code FASTUPBF through the MyAussie portal. It said code successfully applied in the coupon box. But i got an email afterwards stating the next invoice will be $95. Is that normal. Where's the 85?.

  • Pretty disappointing when I’ve been maxed out on 100/40 on a fttn connection for years yet still can’t apply the code or even upgrade :(

Who should I be looking to switch too? currently pull about 2-3TB a month, none of that double nat shit either pls

    • +1

It’s absurd really, if I upgraded to 250/25 from 100/40 on paper (because fttn can’t supply the full DL speed), i’d be 10 dollars a month better off. But they are unwilling to even let me do that..

      • Reading their terms, anyone on their HIGHEST residential tier (1000/50) get nothing from this BF.

  • Applied code, code accepted, didn't change the price, also didn't change the price difference for an immediate change… what gives?

    • Phoned up. Guy was super helpful. Assured my code was accepted.
+1 to a continued happy abb customer!

  • I still get "Promo/referral code invalid" for 1000/50 plan sign up. Surely they can't be this incompetent to make a promo code work…. or can they?

  • +1

ABB is quite expensive compared to its competitors. And considering that the wholesale prices of NBN has gone down recently ABB should be reducing their prices significantly which they haven't done yet. Won't be considering ABB until they pass on the benefit that they are getting to the end consumer.

    • +1

IMO it is worth paying a touch extra for the Aussie call centre. Aussie jobs for Aussies, and English speaking people who can actually help me if I have any tech issues.

  • Man, the site is rubbish, $10 off applied successfully but price doesn’t change. What’s the bet I’m gonna get gipped the full amount on changeover

    • Was assured by them mine was accepted

      • +1

Oh I’ll be looking on changeover. Even the email confirmation assures me I’ll be charged the full quid. How hard is it?

        • Oh yeh will definitely be checking

        • Hopefully the $10 discount is applied on the next invoice.

          • @hollykryten: Have been invoiced the full amount, bloody incumbent. Now I have to ring around ffs

  • The 109 new connection fee on opticomm is a buzzkill.

  • Anything for exisiting Fixed Wireless plus customers?

  • So…. in short, long-time users on Gigabit are shafted…
    Fun :(
