  • Can this do 5g

    • It doesn't do mobile Internet - WiFi, ethernet or USB tethered. https://www.gl-inet.com/products/gl-mt300n-v2/

        It doesn't do mobile Internet

I think you are giving wrong advice.

Go to the link you provided and it clearly shows the device tethered to a mobile phone.

        • That's what they said? USB tethered

          • -5

@ldd-mn: The first poster asked if it can do 5G.

The second poster said "it doesn't do mobile internet".

It definitely absolutely DOES do mobile internet.

            • +1

@GordonD: This will not do mobile internet as it can't accept a SIM.

        • I considered going into more details about the different types of USB dongle that can do mobile 4G or 5G, or the tethering over USB or WiFi to a mobile phone which can do mobile Internet, then I thought it would be easier/better to give the link to the product page with diagrams and text.

But this is still not a 4G or 5G mobile internet device. Yes, you can plug it into another device that itself can do mobile internet and the Mango can pass that data through.

  • Is this suitable for a short cruise or would the other models be better (Beryl AX/Slate Plus)

    • +2

Beryls and Slates are better where you have a number of devices connected. They would do the job on a short cruise, and could be useful afterwards, at the expense of costing more.

Mango would do the job on a short cruise. Afterwards you'd probably put it away in a drawer and never use it again, but its cheap, so that may be the best solution.

    • I brought this and a GL-SFT1200(Opal) on my RC cruise back in Aug and expected to use more of the Mango due to the size advantage but found that my devices were getting disconnected often with the router whereas when connected to the Opal it just worked flawlessly.

      • Great, thanks for sharing! I am also going on a RC cruise and will check out the Opal. How was the speeds and range?

I thought this was a CommBank deal based on the photo 🤣

    • Same, I thought it was a home loan deal…

      @Mortgagetightass username checks out

Would recommend this one instead - https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0777L5YN6/

Cheaper by a bit, faster by a bit and also open-source drivers (Atheros vs Mediatek in the Mango)

Any recommendations for one that takes a sim card?

I'm in the market for one as well. I've narrowed it down to
        - Puli (GL-XE300) (https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B08R7H7D8S) 4G LTE / no 5G / 2.4Ghz wifi band / USB-C powered / built in Ethernet ports
        - At AU$184 (12% discount tickbox), the one in Amazon AU has the EP06-E module which is a cat6 (faster more stable than cat4 but limited band support e.g. may not work in US)
        - At AU$175, there is an EG25-G "global" version in the global site (https://store.gl-inet.com/products/puli-gl-xe300-4g-lte-wire…) that is cat4 but has a wider support more countries US, EU/APAC

If you don't care for the ethernet port, there's a TP-link option (https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B08BS3SHZV) with less than half the battery of Puli

If you want 5G band support, prices are upwards of AU$500 e.g. GL.iNet GL-X3000 (Spitz AX) or GL.iNet GL-XE3000 (Puli AX). However they moved from USB powered to DC barrel.

If you don't need it for travel; just for home backup, TP link has a 4G one for AU$75 right now https://www.amazon.com.au/TP-Link-Cat4-Router-Supported-Conf…

Personally, I'm leaning towards the Puli global version for versatility reasons and I need an ethernet port. I'm planning to plug it in my main router as a backup should NBN fail but also want to have the option to bring it with me should we travel.

    • Yes. I have the one with antennas for a bit more range.

    • I also recommend this one. We use it whenever we travel. It just makes it so much more convenient to configure it using the same wifi SSD as at home and then have all your personal devices automatically connected to it in the hotel or Airbnb.

Depending on the hotel’s network configuration, sometimes it’s as easy as disconnecting the LAN cable from behind the TV and plugging it to your router. I then connect our Firestick to it so the kids have their favourite streaming shows to watch for free.

Other times you’ll need to configure it to logon to the hotel wifi internet using the hotel username/password.

It does slow down if you have too many devices connected and all are streaming simultaneously though, so take that into consideration as other more expensive models may be more suitable to handle higher traffic.

Also note that this works well on single floor and smaller hotel rooms but struggles if you’re staying at a large apartment where your room is far away from the router or there are many solid walls in between.

  • That looks like a CBA logo

  • Can you put a Boost sim in there?

    • +1

      This is what explained above
      This will not take SIM
It can oly do USB tethering connecting to phone/tablet /4G/5G modem
This unit will not do 5G direct

  • Last time I bought this one it doesnt work at all.
Don't know what to do with it now
