MSI Modern traditionally has a very poor display. I wonder what the brightness and colour is like in this one

  • Is this a gaming laptop

"Intel® Iris® Xe graphics", so pretty light gaming if anything

Worth paying the extra $50 for https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/hp-pavilion-plus-14-ew003…
….and upgrade the SSD later if needed.

As @Phoebus has said, I saw some review recently saying that the MSI Modern C12M display sux.

Stop judging laptops by their specs. HP Pavilions are notorious for breaking down quickly.

        Lol…very funny.

Do you actually think MSI Modern's are any more reliable?

They're very cheap laptops built to a cost. At least the HP has much better and more modern specs (aside from SSD size).

      • My experience with HP for a return was above what I expected. Technician brought a brand new replacement to my house, removed old product and installed new one. This was 20 years ago though - may not be the same now..

This is 1.3kg, that is 1.8kg.

This has Intel Iris graphics, that has a (low end) dedicated GPU. (A little under 100% performance increase)
This has a faster CPU (about 50% faster)

This will do light gaming and be amazing for taking on flights / portability. Great work/office laptop.
That will do heavier gaming, but is a bit heavier and slower CPU (worse multitasking, but better gaming FPS)

If you want the best of both worlds, wait for another Acer Swift X 14 deal. It's 1.4kg with a dedicated GPU and faster CPU. Around ~$997.

      • Thanks for your response. In terms of brand is Acer better than MSI? Never used MSI before

        • MSI better IMO, Acer is getting better these days but they used to be known as the cheapest and nastiest. The swift X range has a nice feel to it - feels quite premium.

Their warranty is absolutely terrible, it's worse than trying to do an insurance claim. They make you troubleshoot absolutely everything. Lenovo just has you send it back (or sends out a tech if you've paid extra for on-site). My type-c port on my Swift-X stopped charging, 3weeks in and I'm still trying to get warranty.
