Spending nearly $2700 on a mobile phone is insanity imo 🤯

    • +4

When I worked in a phone shop the most expensive phone was included in an $80 phone plan or RRP around $1,200 which was I thought was insane at the time.A $2,700 phone is next level cray cray

Phones have replaced laptops which itself replaced desktops as the expensive technology item people buy. When I was a kid people used to spend many thousands on a beast of a laptop. Before I was born some people would drop equivalent of 10k today on a desktop.

And why not. Life is short, why not buy the best in the world of something. It's nice to own nice things. Some people will spend $2700 on rims for their car, or on airplane tickets, or a new sofa.

      • +1

Also replaced compact cameras, scanners, …

        • +2

Flashlight, video camera, iPod, dictaphone, compass, satellite emergency messenger, portable speaker…

It's our age's marvellous multitool that our parents only saw in Star Trek. There's really nothing wrong with wanting the best one. Most of us use it all day every day, so there's a better case to spend on it than the laptop or desktop computer from decades ago imo.

Indeed. My wife never uses our desktop, does everything on her now ancient iPhone XS Max.
I will get her a 15 pro max for Christmas because she has gone for so long without an upgrade and it will be a long time for the next one, and screen real estate seems important to her ( looks fondly at my 12 mini).

$2700 and shipping is not free. They, from top (apple) to toes (retailers), really know how to milk out of their loyal showing off fanboys/girls who deserve extreme rip off. Gees.

    • Shipping isn’t free on Samsung products, what’s your point?

      • My S23 ultra had free shipping, just sayin'.

        • +1

S23 1tb from the retailer under discussion isn’t free?

Why buy festool/dewalt/bosch when ozito takes the same drill bits?

honestly don’t know why people get their knickers in a knot over this

  • -2

Honestly why, a $400 or less has everything you need.
It comes down to flaunting you have the latest brand

    • And knowing that I have the very best technology money can buy

    • +1

      has everything you need

      How do you know that?

    • +5

"everything you /need/" isn't a very compelling argument

Man can live off milk & bread for a substantial amount of time
You can shower once per fortnight
You can live on the streets for a while (if executed correctly)

These satisfy your 'needs'. But why would you want to live such a life?
You question our luxury, but we question your crippling minimalism

      • So I should buy a $2700 phone, live off milk and bread, shower once a fortnight, live on the streets for a while, when my $280 phone (retail was $400 but got it cheap) is all I need?

        • is all I need

We got there at the end

        • +1

No, please consider doing none of the above. Please, please shower daily instead of fortnightly.

I'm not suggesting living frugally as a means to afford the phone; I'm raising 3 examples of living only by necessities, and questioning why someone would willingly opt to live accordingly.

Cry more, swiped the app away and didn't read any of it. I'm here for deals, grow up.

  • +1

I've always criticised the price of top-end phones, and Apple's profits support the claim of rip-off practices. But, if you work out the price vs how much it's used, even the most expensive phones are a good buy to many.

    • Ipad however it is a good value…

      • Yeah I go iPad Pro for work work, like GIS forms, office, pdfs document signing etc, and keep a 12 mini in my pocket. Not a common scenario though.

I know the guy that owns this company and he’s an honest, genuine bloke. Not sure if that counts for much, coming from a stranger.

  • Can iphone split screen like ipad? No?

      • You probably not having an iphone… It can't.

It's very interesting that you did not have an iphone. But you Google hard to find a link said it can split screen. Every other links says it can't.

It's a very basic thing which ipad has but iphone not.

Mid tier phones are great these days. I use my phone for work, so forked out $650 on Telstra day deal for S21. My spouse has the same phone that developed battery and sim reader error. Repaired the sim reader and got a new battery put in for $110 that included pick up and drop off.

Keep your phone for longer, try and repair it, don't sign up for a plan, go prepaid sim. You'll save thousands a year.

    • This is a good point.

Motorola is seriously disrupting the market with their mid tier phones at the moment too.

At these prices the interest rate needs another .25 raise.
