Question : Do you have to pay them or do they pay you $4 to eat a tin of it ?

      • My spam count is at 23. I'd say that's pretty decent for all in RBA feed. Interpretations.

    Let me get this right.
Spam is now dear in kilogram price that mince was 12 months ago.

This price gouging is seriously getting out of control.

    • +1

But can you still eat mince after leaving it in your pantry for a year?

      • +3

I mean you can, at least once.

      • If youre leaving spam that long why buy it now¿

        Also.. I freeze my mince.

SPAM is amazing. Do people just hate on it to be cool?

    • How is it eaten? Sliced then fried like bacon?

      • +1

I like to cut it into thin slices and eat as it is

      • +3

Lots of different ways. You can use it in fried rice, as part of sushi or in budae jjigae (Korean Army Stew). Don't need much as the flavour is quite strong. I would never eat it cold out of the can.

Air Fryer some thick slices, fry some slices, dice it up and add to a stew, fry and put on toast with avo and egg (boil, scramble, poached).
Is surprisingly good and convenient. I prefer it to tinned ham.

Per 100g, it's got a kidney-crackin' ~1400mg of sodium, 27g of total fats (but half is monounsaturated), comes with 72mg cholesterol about on par with many meats, with an underwhelming 13.5g protein and 0.5mg (~4% DI) iron.

I'd rate it a fairly poor red meat, if I'm organised enough to stick to one serving per week I'll opt for lean beef (or an eye fillet if I really want to enjoy it). Otherwise I'll stick to fish and chicken breast as my daily lean protein. I'm on a mainly chicken breast week and paid more than $2/kg less than this this week.
