      I went to Apple last week to try and use my Apple ID balance to buy Apple care and they said i couldn’t but I could buy something online worth about the Apple care amount and then return it and they would give me an Apple gift card and I could use that to buy Apple care+ …. And that’s what I did. .. I bought AirPods and returned them straight away and got the gift card. Not a direct way. But it did work.

      can they be used to pay for gift cards at Coles or have they blocked it?

      (if I calculated it correctly, it's a 1.55 saving on the $75 pocket money cards, so maxing it would be buying variable load cards at $75 for a $9.05 saving per $75 of apple credit, an extra 2% saving)

      Just be careful, I split an iphone purchase 40% gift cards and 60% credit card and Apple sent me the trade-in refund in gift cards, took a lot of arguing to get it back as cash. You would be better off using another trade-in company than risking it.
