        gorilla trekking and chimpanzee tracking

      • +3

You can do that at home…

        • +2

Can confirm, this is achievable at home and doesn't event cost much ! (except for the tear-stained pillows…)

    • +3

Connect a Flight to Dubai for another $700 or so and then connect off to Europe.
      Completely doable..

      • +20

Or book a flight to Europe directly for a fraction of the price and the time, with no risk of getting the ticket cancelled

        • Find a Flight a flight to Europe for "a fraction of the price"
Some people do not care about time or risk.. Retirees for example have all the time in the world and most airlines allow you to extend layovers aswell.

So you could turn a flight that has a long travel time into now spanning over 3-4 days between each leg.

          • +6

@JPNx: hey my time is worthless - but Im not retired

          • @JPNx: As I said it’s not just about time. A direct flight is also cheaper and carries no risk of being cancelled, being this deal a price error

        • +1

          not much fun in that

Business class on a airline is still 10X better than any hotel in that shithole.

    • Almost confused Rwanda with Wakanda

      • Or Randwick

    • +1

Lots of people are getting one way flights courtesy of the British Government….

      • Despite their best attempts I thought they hadn't managed to even get 1 person sent to Rwanda

        • This completely untrue, they have sent at least 3 home secretaries

Bring some diamonds for souvenirs. 💎

      • In Rwanda, while diamonds haven't been a major export or industry, there have been efforts to develop and regulate diamond mining in recent years. Rwanda has implemented measures to ensure responsible and ethical diamond mining practices through programs like the Kimberley Process, aimed at preventing the trade of conflict diamonds and promoting transparency in the diamond trade

    • +3

      Proof?

      • hes kappin

      • It was on the internet, must be true

    • +3

      We need proof

    • you better not be lying, Im going too

  • +2

Doubt price error just want to fill seats. An empty seat makes 0$ for an airline

    • +51

This is what I tell 5 star hotels all the time when I want a discount and they still tell me no.

      • +3

Bit different, the hotel would have to clean all the sheets/bedding/towels

        • +1

Yeah but wouldn’t they want to fill all their rooms regardless of the cleaning? Eg hotel has 100 rooms, 50 only booked so they have 50 left. Wouldn’t they want to get people in if someone rocked up randomly and say asked for discount so they can fill in the room and get $$?

          • +6

            @prankster:

hotel has 100 rooms, 50 only booked so they have 50 left.

Average hotel vacancy rates are closer to 10-15% and their business model operates off these figures.

Wouldn’t they want to get people in if someone rocked up randomly and say asked for discount

5 star hotels live off their reputation for being high class and having higher class clientele. Allowing cheap smelly bogans to stay for a discount would destroy any extra $ they would make.

        • +1

The discounted $$ will always cover the cost of the bedding/cleaning

      • +6

You need to speak to the general manager not the reception staff

      • +4

Yea I tried telling this to hookers

      • +1

This is a good joke but this is why Hotel room upgrades sometimes happen, to free up the cheap rooms for them to keep selling.

    • +1

Cheap flight Business deals generally do not even make it to travel websites for the Airline to care about "fill seats"

Travel Agents and Corporate companies i.e.. OneWorld Round the World run dedicated software that allows them to see these deals and then begin to sell them off.
The flight goes via Bangkok which alone is 9hours on business class.. Thats like $2000 retail alone

      • You never know. Apparently if a plane doesn't actually land and use a terminal, the airline can lose it. So they need to fly there even if the flight is empty or they risk losing the chance to use the terminal for that route. As long as they need to use it anyway may as well sell the flight cheap and make some money. Swissair charged me 5 euro for a tepid cup of tea 20 years ago, I bet it's 20 euro today.

    Gorilla trekking and eat isombe.

  • +4

Rwanda looks like an incredible country to visit - I'd love to go!

    • +4

      Buy ticket then

  • +2

Is secret flying legit as it picks up a lot of price error airfares?

    • +2

It is. I’ve check it a few times and can find the error flight.

  • +33

Highly recommend gorilla trekking. Was fortunate when gorilla permits in Uganda were 600usd. It is 1500usd in Rwanda now and like 750usd in Uganda. For anyone who does go the Kigali genocide memorial is particularly moving. You can get a East Africa Visa that covers Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda and its a great trip. PM me if you want a recommendation for a local guide who runs a safari business in the region

    • +2

Hey mate, I can't send you a pm but I am curious about your recommendation!

      • +12

I went with Engagi safaris. Run by a lovely chap called Robert Basiima. He's based in Uganda and has grown to have a bunch of guides and a incredible resort on Lake Bunyonyi. My tour was run by Robert himself and can cater to varying budgets for accomodation. He has an incredible eye for animals and the tree climbing lions in Uganda are something I will never forget.

    • +7

Did a similar tour, gorillas and hot air ballooning over the Serengeti were amazing experiences.
We finished up in Zanzibar (Island off Tanzania), was a great way to finish the trip.

    • hey mate - I am on my own - thinking about going over xmas/ny break 24 dec - 6 Jan
Could you please give me some contacts too? Would love to see gorillas
And anything else you have on hand - like esp costings

      • +4

Also would advise moderate fitness levels for Gorilla trekking. It isnt called the Bwindi impenetrable forest for nothing. Its variable how long you would have to hike. For some it was as little as an hour and it took us like 3 hours to hike in the jungle. It was a couple of years since I have been so my prices are likely to be very different due to permit hikes and inflation(I paid 3400 usd for 2 people on a 6 day safari in 2015). I think ballpark 200usd per day for budget and can go sky high depending on the luxury you want. Price per person goes down the more people you have if you can fill up a vehicle. You can ask them if you can tag on to another group as it will bring your costs down. They have multiple group tours and any hostel/hotel should be able to fit you int. Engagi was excellent in Uganda. You can go glamping but you will have a far more fulfilling experience if you go budget. The safari company hooked us up with a very basic hut with mosquito screen and 2 beds in a rangers hut. We had armed rangers outside our hut because we were close to a river where you could hear hippos. You can take a shower whilst seeing elephants in the distance. Gorillas, Queen Elizabeth national park(Tree Climbing Lions), Kazinga Chanel crossing, Chimpanzee trekking are all some of the fun things you can do. Permits are limited and you will have to contact a tour company to make sure your selected day has availability.

        • +2

thank you so much. looks like I have a lot of work to do - lets see if the stars line up but Im going anyway

managed to get 9 day "stopover" in bangkok + 4 days in kigali so great if my solo ass can get added to a tour if not I'll just explore for 4 days

          thanks again for responding!

          • +1

@ChatCPT: How did you manage to wangle a 9 day stopover in Bangkok? If I can do that myself, I think I may just have to buy a ticket. Would be incredible to have a few days in Kenya too! Thanks in advance.

            • @FeefMac: I'd join this gang if we want to have a little group of Ozb lurkers in Africa (would probs split the stopover more towards kenya)

              • @JDMcarfan: yea I was afraid theres nothing to do in Kigali but realised after there's some pretty awesome safaris
Could also break up the nairobi stop to look around there.

I tried changing it but the prices have gone up (on my selected dates)

    • heyy, just wondering if you know what kind of activity we can do if we are traveling with a 4-month-old baby in Rwanda? I know its probably not ideal, but its hard to pass up a deal like this.

thinking of spending most of the trip in Thailand and Kenya, and maybe just 1-2 nights in Rwanda?

      • +1

Depends on how attached you are to said 4 month old baby.

Healthy, white children with the established number of limbs command a premium in deepest, darkest Africa…

        • are you talking about the lions or the people?

      • +1

I dont know your itenary but a coffee plantation tour, maybe a day trip to a game reserve in Rwanda if you are not sick of safaris by then. Highly recommend the genocide museum. . Assuming its on the tail end and if you just want to chill recommend a trip to Lake Bunyonyi in Uganda. Its only a short drive from Kigali. Get a resort, enjoy the views and get pampered and your visa should cover the entry into Uganda?

        • I believe you'd need a visa to Uganda arranged and get vaccinated for yellow fever

    • +7

Do the locals see you coming out of business class?

      • +5

If you have a window seat.

    • +8

If you can't see flying biz class for the price of economy as a bargain, what are you even doing on here??

    • +1

Showing off your wealth to the people there by…

The average income in Rwanda is about $100/month. The fact the fact that you can afford any plane ticket is considered extreme wealth to most of them.

  • +1

Can see availability throughout 2024. Would have jumped on it if the airline was offering the error fare, less keen going through a third party.

    • Same price on Kenya Airways website.

  • +2

There's also $1710 for a longer flight with China Southern to GZ then on the Kenyan ticket through Thailand to Nairobi.

    • +3

Still better for the planet than catching monkeys.

Unless of course catching Ebola came an Ivory plaque or some blood diamonds. Which would be lovely for the mantle, but wrong…

    • +15

Rwanda hasn't recorded an Ebola case ever afaik

    • +6

      Since when?

Kigali one of the, if not the, cleanest city in Africa. Get a grip.

    • Forgot to colonize Rwanda?

  • -5

    Thanks OP, bought 50.

  • Not bad business class to thailand and just get off. No need to go to Kenya.

    • +2

Maybe, just bring carry on. Always a risk they could cancel your return flight though.

      • +15

Not a risk but a certainty. They definitely will 100% cancel your return flight if it’s on the same ticket

      • Why so?

        • +2

          Why so?

Because airlines don't like you doing it and there's a long history of people trying it and getting their return trips cancelled.
          Google 'hidden city ticketing'

    • +1

      Return?

      • there's a layover in Thailand coming back from Kenya, can't you use that ticket or it doesn't work that way?

        • +7

If you fail to complete a leg of your journey, airlines typically consider it a breach of contract, and the remaining segments of your ticket may be canceled. This is known as "no-show" and can result in the forfeiture of subsequent flights, including your return journey.

    • +1

      "just get off" 🤔

      • +1

There's a layover in Thailand, can't you just then head to immigration then outside? Isn't that what the website skiplagged is all about?
