[NSW, VIC] $200 Welcome Credit on Electricity Plans @ Simply Energy

180

Simply Energy are offering $200 welcome credit against your first bills. Looks to be eligible on any plan, rates aren't too bad compared to most other plans but I would recommend switching again once you have used up the credit anyway.

I have checked the eastern states and it appears it may only be for NSW and VIC.

Surprised to see that this hasn't been posted here, so if you regularly churn your utility company it may be suitable for you.

This deal is now superseded by a new 2024 promotion

Anyone have gone out and come back in and got the welcome credit again?

  • How hard is it to switch from tango to these guys and back out again? I only churn nbn before.

    • +2

Easier than nbn.. just book new provider, they will take care of all

      • Is there going to have any bad impact? Otherwise I could literally jumping around providers to get free utilities.

      • +5

Yes unlike NBN where you have to notify some providers within 30 days, new provider will setup your account.
Old provider will send you a final bill to pay and that's it. No billing cycles etc. just pay for the number of days you used

And that is exactly what you should do, jump around and don't pay for electricity. Same as CC churning

        • Prezzee offer valid till 15/12/23

Does anyone know if this is an ongoing offer? Seems like they run it pretty frequently.

Trying to time my departure from Globird (rates going up Jan 1), but current rates are still pretty good until then, so want to leave at the last possible time in Dec.

  • Credit no offered in WA.

  • Do they do monthly billing or is there option for quarterly billing as well?

    • +1

I’ve heard the credit gets applied over as many months as you need to reach $200 so wouldn’t be worried about monthly billing

      • ah that’s great

    • +1

signed up few months ago. called to request monthly bill. $200 was credited on the first bill. the un-used credit will roll to next months and so on.

      • So you've actually experienced the credit rolling over?

        • +1

yes, i have received 2 bills (monthly). only spent $40 per month, so still have $120 to roll over next month and so on.

          • @dtingy: Sweet, they confirmed on live chat, but I was still skeptical

            • @prhino: if you are on the smart meter, so better to request a monthly bill than quarterly so you can see your credit earlier and clearer usage on each month. now i just waiting for shopback to confirm the $108 via compare electricity and gas store when i signed up this. Still in tracked status and finger cross with be confirmed by 25 dec. if success, i am getting $200 + $108 = $308 in total. not a bad move and might move to other provider later and wait for another deal later.

              • @dtingy: Yeah, I'm always on monthly.

Sadly I missed out on cash back, but I have solar, so $200 credit will last me almost 12 months

                • @prhino: then you will have free electricity for 12 months. i have solar too but no batt, with current rates, i am out of pocket approx $30/month.

                  • @dtingy: Yeah, I've got no battery either.

These days I seem to pay $15 a month for about 8 months of the year, up to about $30 a month during the less sunny months.

It was so much better a few years ago.

  • can this be combined with cashback?

    • +2

Wattever is better. $50 in 28 days.
Shopback is $108 but cash out time is 120 days.

These rates arnt super good so it's best just to use the $200 and churn to another.

      • Thanks. How long will this offer run?

  • Keep getting rejected due to poor credit but I dont have poor credit

    • Do you have a credit ban placed on your file? Sometimes that happens and you can send them a credit report manually. I know globird and powershop accepts manual submissions.

  • +1

If you're an NRMA member in NSW there are some plans with Simply Energy that offer a $300 welcome credit (plus $50 gift card if you switch through Wattever).

  • Just signed up by Wattever. I can’t see the $200 credit on Simply Energy website?

    • It should be disclosed in the factsheet provided by Wattever. Unless you're in a state where it's not offerred.

  • +1

I personally have had an awful experience with Simply Energy. Took over a month to disconnect my account and gas with them and countless hours on the phone. Take a quick look at their reviews on Google, absolutely not worth the effort especially if you ever have to deal with their "customer service".

    • Did you have issues disconnecting gas forever or did you have problems switching gas plans?

      • +1

Permanently disconnecting gas. If anyone else is in the same boat, it would be easier to switch providers first and then cancel your gas plan.

  • Has anyone used the Econnex connect through cashrewards? For some reason, I feel that they are more work than worth.

    • +1

      Can't do both.
