i have this in a 75" got it for $1800 directly from sony on corporate offers, but an amazing TV

    • +1

Wow… That's a killer price. Need to find a way to get access to corporate membership

  • +1

Great TV. Got the $85” for ~$2300 on Black Friday to replace a defective x90k that I returned. Noticeably better blooming control even on menus and overlays.

    • How did you get that price?

      • Black Friday

        • I meant where and with what discounts

          • @fufufu: I had Good guys price match Sony’s additional 10% off Harvey Norman’s price and then paid with 15% of discounted TCN cards.

            • @Turkchr: Ah you price matched in person right? I couldn't find the 85" on good guys website when sony had the 10% off $2800

              • @fufufu: No actually did it online with the chat feature, requested an invoice for my local store and went in and paid in person.

                • @Turkchr: So there was a listing for the 85"? I couldn't find it.

                  • @fufufu: Correct, it was listed as per normal.

    • was it Sony X80L? $2111 delivered now on ebay good guys store. seems like a good deal.

      • Not such a good deal, I didn’t pay much more for the x90L 85”.

  • Have this 75inch. Can vouch for the picture quality - very very good for a full array TV.

    • For most people this will be amazing. I have x95k and not sure if there is much difference between this and mine. Great value for anyone that wants great image quality but cant afford OLED

      • +1

        I have x95k

Isn't the x95 series MiniLED? In theory it should have better picture contrast and blacker blacks.

        • Yep, this only has 88 dimmable zones which isn’t much really. The black uniformity isn’t amazing. I’ll fcuk with LED if/when Micro LED hits the consumer market. Mini LED still has its flaws.

    • The feet don't have a "narrow" or middle of the TV position do they?

  • i got the 85 inch. great picture quality

  • 120hz panel from what I understand. Amazing deal, I paid more for the X90k last year and I've been super happy with it, this one is supposed to be a solid improvement with local dimming etc.

  • I live in WA regional, so probably will need to have it delivered to a friend's house and pick up myself. Does anyone know roughly how big the whole package might be?

  • +2

I was thinking about buying TCL C845 or much older Samsung Q95T. Without much thinking just bought this. Thanks OP.

    • I think TCL C845 has around 4 times the dimming zones when compared to this model of Sony.
In this instance TCL C845 might be the better TV

      • +2

The C845 has firmware problems. I got mine a couple of weeks back and it has terrible judder. The local dimming algorithm doesn't work well with movement in PC gaming and has really bad motion trailing and artifacts. Some people are saying a recent update introduced the judder, but there's no way to roll it back. Needless to say I'm sending it back. It's a shame because picture quality and contrast wise it looks excellent.

To be honest I would have preferred the reliability of the Sony.

        • -1

Think I had that when I first got the TV from BF sale, fast motion and max cranked motion clarity gives weird artifacts.

If you like everything looking like soap opera C845 might not be the best choice. I've since turned off motion clarity and the tv has been fine.

          YMMV

          • +1

@mikkim4eva: I'm in the opposite camp - the judder is so bad that I'm forced to turn on judder reduction when I don't want to use it because it's the only thing that'll fix it

      • +1

Sony has better colour accuracy and motion handling.

        • +1

agree, Sony was the only LCD tv i found that I can handle watching after coming from a plasma.

      • +5

Good reminder that more dimming zones =/= better backlight control. Local dimming algorithm is just as important.

Quite often Sony outperforms many others with less dimming zones due to their processing.

    • +6

I recently was in the same position. The TCL wins on paper….and then you see the picture quality on the Sony. No contest. You'll be very happy with your purchase.

      • How's this for gaming? Ps5/switch

        • +1

Sony + Sony, you can't go wrong :)

      • I just bought the TCL 2 hours ago before seeing this, oh well haha

        • Don't stress, it's a great TV and has its advantages.

          • @chrisandrew: Does the advantage include the recent bad firmware that people talked about?

        • Looking too - where did you buy yours?

      • Honestly, I am pretty sure it's subjective and Sony is not clearly ahead

It's true both are good TVs but to say one clearly is better than the other is a bit disingenuous.

        • Are you sure TCL QM8 and C845 are comparable with each other?

          • +1

@ripp3r: That's a good point, from my research, they are pretty comparable. I think the difference is a reduction in dimming zones, but the rest is the same. Research was hard to do, so happy to be corrected.

            Here's another C845 review - https://www.whathifi.com/reviews/tcl-55c845
            Vs
            https://www.whathifi.com/reviews/sony-x90l-xr-55x90l

The only place I have seen people rate x90L way better than c845 is user comments, and a salesman. All the professional/videophile reviews have them equal, if not with c845 being better. I like Sony, so I can get where the loyalists are coming from, and I believe the X93L and X95L are better, but not the X90L. The one case I think of where I could recommend X90L over c845 is if you watch only/mainly SDR content that is below 1080p. Sony may have an edge here, and you wouldn't be utilising the full capabilities of either TV by sticking to SDR

If you can, go into store and judge. I found the contrast ratio on C845 was noticeably better than the Sony. Perhaps it was source material, perhaps not. If we had the X93L in Australia and that was $1500-$1900, I would have gotten that but we don't have that and X95L is quite a lot more expensive.

      • The general trend is that the Sony has better motion handling and calibration, while the TCL has much better blacks/blooming.

In a showroom the Sony will look better when compared side by side, but at home the difference is blooming is very apparent

        • This sounds pretty accurate, at least based on my experience. The TCL looks excellent in HDR content and there's no easily discernable blooming.

Also the C845 has a silent revision with a newer processor. You'd think it would be better (and maybe it will be eventually?) but it uses a different firmware to the original and unless you keep the factory version, there's no .IMG file available to roll it back. Anecdotally the judder wasn't present before the update but seeing as I updated straight away, I have no frame of reference.

If anyone is interested, here are some examples of the judder:
          https://youtu.be/tGRbF_w5YVU?si=sSQwot896J2bfWJQ
          https://youtu.be/_YR1RnoTyr4?si=ko2ImWS6XqFapwAw

The phone camera doesn't really do it justice as to how bad it looks.

Now I can either wait and hope that there's an update that fixes it, or return it and get something like the X90L

          • @krazynayba:

The phone camera doesn't really do it justice as to how bad it looks.

The worst it gets on mine (C835) is during Jeopardy at the start of the round when the topics are read out and slide across the screen.
            eg: https://youtu.be/mHIF-l6Lq4g?t=108

I think this has been a common problem, although some people claim not to have it.

            • @1st-Amendment: Yikes, yeah I can imagine that'd be horrible on mine 😬

The most disappointing thing is even my 5 year old Hisense P7 I had before didn't have any issues like this. I mean sure the picture quality wasn't as good but I don't think I've ever actually seen judder this bad in even a cheap TV

      • The TCL wins on paper….and then you see the picture quality on the Sony. No contest.

When I was buying, the contest was between the TCL 835 and Sony X95 (both MiniLED). At that time the TCL was on sale for $1200 and the Sony was about $2100. IMO the TCL had better colour but suffered a little on motion, and for me I don't care about super smooth motion to pay almost double for it.

So yeah, if they were the similar price then Sony wins. But they aren't - although this deal is pretty good.

    • I bought the TCL C845 on Black Friday sales for about 1400 dollars. Price was my ultimate deciding factor but if I saw this price back then I probably would have gone for the Sony for peace of mind. But haven't had too many complaints with the TCL so far. All software related minor issues EG syncing with Google home but the display is great.

  • Bought this one a few weeks ago from BingLee when they had 10% off storewide. Great quality TV

  • +3

    No 75", damn.

    • +2

Agreed. Holding out for the 75” for hopefully close to $2k

  • Great price.. I bought during BF and it's a much higher price.

  • damn, paid $1800 just 2 weeks ago

  • Same price at Sony Ebay store with the code but delivery is free.

    • Thanks for mentioning this. Got it delivered regional area whereas The Good Guys doesn’t.

      • Or price match this TGG price at Sony online to stack with CR or SB cash back

    • I placed the order but havent got any updates. Reading the review now on the eBay Sony store a lot of complaints of the order being cancelled, poor delivery and damage. Regretting not going with TGG eBay store now

  • +4

Why not buy direct from Sony and get it shipped to your place?

    • Have you had any updates from the Sony eBay store?

I placed the order but havent got any updates. Reading the review now on the eBay Sony store a lot of complaints of the order being cancelled, poor delivery and damage. Regretting not going with TGG eBay store now

      • +1

Also a lot of positive reviews. Note that many of the reviews are for refurbished or box damaged items, which shouldn’t apply to your TV.

  • I've been eyeing OLEDs but with these types of TVs with local dimming, is it similar in blackness performance?

    • Oled will be superior when it comes to blooming and black levels, they can have some issues in scenes that are just above blapk but in the whole will handily outperform other TV types on this front.

Can't beat oled's pixel level light control.

  • Anyone know if it has freesync? Wondering if it can be used as a monitor.

  • Thought I got a deal for 1888 on Black friday from the good guys. Luckily I haven't moved house yet and it's still in the box, so I'll be returning that to the good guys today. Bought this for 1496 from the Sony ebay store as they don't charge for shipping.

  • I'm saving to buy a house but I have always wanted to ensure i have a good TV, good surround sound setup. Should I keep saving and buy a TV once I am in a position to buy a house? Or buy this amazing TV now? Have always wanted a 65" Bravia

    • Personally, I feel like there's a high risk of damaging a TV when moving houses, plus I use PC quite often, therefore I personally will hold until I am settled before buying a TV. So it really depends on your situation and what you value the most I think.

      • That's true. That's what my partner says as well ha ha

        • +1

If you plan on moving soon after buying it, you can also keep the box and styrofoam

  • +1

Do I keep my 55 A80J or get a 65 X90L? Smaller dimmer OLED vs larger brighter LED. I just don’t know if I can tolerate the black uniformity in a dark environment. Clouding is very distracting and what swore me off LED. Considering how bright OLED is getting, I’m not sure what the point of LED is anymore. Peak brightness is nothing without good Local Dimming algorithm. Just answered my own question.

  • This at $1.5k or Samsung S90C OLED at $2.3k for the same size? Moderate PC gaming (3060 Ti only) and dramas/TV/movies mostly.

  • What are owners' opinions on viewing angles on this?

  • bought a x90k last year and it always turns off immediately after turning it on. Not really annoying. Is the x90L a much better upgrade or should I wait for the following year

  • Expired?

  • How are you getting this price? $2795 to me

    • It expired yesterday

  • Did anyone order from the Sony eBay store and recieve any updates?

    • have you had any luck? Expected delivery was yesterday for me and there have been no updates to shipping at all

      • I thought I was the only one! Same here, delivery was meant to be yesterday for me as well.

I've been messaging the eBay team and they keep saying they're working on it but nothing at all! On the official Sony site theyre on backorder till late Jan soo I have a feeling its not good news.

Almost want to cancel my order if the price wasnt this good.

Keeps us posted if you get any updates please?

        • Yep I messaged the ebay team and they gave me the consignment number, but when I look it up it appears that it's sitting in the warehouse "ready for collection". I read through their ebay reviews and it seems this is a common complaint, and they just happen to arrive a few weeks after the expected date. I've contacted DHL and am awaiting a reply and I'll continue to try hound the ebay store.

Odd they're off the Sony website - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/285614451830 they have re-listed the item at full price on their ebay store again (promising 4 day delivery).

Regretting now not just copping the $35 delivery fee from the good guys.

          • @Sorgus: Just got the consignement number as well.

But like you said, from the reviews it seems a little sus that they provide shipping info on the day that we can request 'ebay to step in'

I sent the same screenshot to the store rep 'JD' and he cant give me qn explanation on how theyre promising 4 day delivery for full priced orders when they cant fullfill our ones.

Given we only have 2 days to the long weekend i doubt we'll be seeing it anytime soon, honesyly gutted as i was looking forward to setting up and using it over Chrissy. Yeap, regret not going wtih TGG!

            • +1

@tojy: Yeah ol mate JD set up the case with DHL for me - I wonder how many people have been contacting him about this over the past few days hahah. I'm pretty bummed that it's not likely going to be here before Chrissy, was pumped to get it mounted and ready to go

          • @Sorgus: Wondering if theres any point asking ebay to step in as I do want the TV but there.might be some good deals given Boxing day is around the corner

            • @tojy: I actually bought the TV from the goodguys initially ($1888) but returned it (i hadn't opened it yet luckily) when this deal came up, hoping that 4 day shipping would actually be accurate. I have gotten the Sony ebay store to raise a case with DHL also, unsure how long that will take to yield results though at this time of year.

              • @Sorgus: Check your tracking status; mine just updated showing 'Depot Pickup' but weirdly enough it says it was updated at midnight last night and only showing now.

How long has yours been in 'Depot Pickup'/'Consignment'? Maybe there's still a chance?

              • @Sorgus: Now ahowing 'Held' what a shitshow

                • @tojy: Jesus mate at least you're having some updates - mine is 100% the same as yesterday. I'm in half a mind to see if the goodguys ebay store will match their old sale price, and if so I'll return this sony one when it comes. Pretty peeved that I won't have it before Christmas considering i bought it over a week ago now.

                • +1

@tojy: I have just gotten a text from DHL saying that it will be delivered tomorrow! Although also got an email from ebay saying it will be delivered today. I'll wait and see if it arrives (and hopefully when it does - it will be in good condition).

                  • @Sorgus: Lucky you! Spoke to DHL as well and its just sitting in their warehouse; they said it'l be delivered after Newy :/

Almost tempted to go pick it up but will need to sign a waiver about not claiming damage from delivery.

Christmas came early for you! Haha

                    • @tojy: Just had it delivered today! Got very lucky I think. Hopefully you get some similar luck coming your way soon :(

                      • @Sorgus: Thats awesome! Yeah unfortunately not gonna happen for me, confirmed with them this morning :/

Just out of curiosity where abouts are you located? I'm in the western suburbs and they said there were no deliveries planned for this area till after the New Year!

                        • @tojy: So strange that I've managed to get mine (I'm in Adelaide) but you're continuing to have troubles despite being in the same city as the warehouse
