And not surprisingly, [VIC] and [SA]

      https://www.agl.com.au/get-connected/electricity-gas-plans/v…

$100 for each, $200 for both.

edit: Page doesn't seem to actually work for me though, it tells me AGL isn't available at my address in a Melbourne suburb…

      • +2

You need to follow this link, putting in store name and some employee numbers and it'll then take you to your link but will actually work. Tried both methods only mine will work and then will prompt you to create an account etc.

        https://www.agl.com.au/get-connected/electricity-gas-plans/v…

        • The link says 'Offer ends 30 Nov 2023, unless varied by AGL.'

Can anyone confirm if the offer is still valid?

          • @76F: I'm in Vic but all the links say 4 Feb 2024 for me

          • +1

@76F: When I tried it on my phone I had Queensland stores and Nov 30, on my desktop I get Victorian stores and Feb 4th.

I might give it a shot, my bill will go up by about $20 a month from globird but I'll just switch to someone else after a month.

Also check Westpac Rewards to see if you have the AGL offer (www.agl.com.au/westpacoffer). Looks like they have a $150 Prepaid Digital Mastercard for WA when you switch.

      • Had seen that thanks. I'm new to Perth, do you know if AGL are the cheapest out of the lot?

  • +9

I’d rather 250 as a discount as a current members. Clearly they have enough margin

    • Why the negs? From what i heard the other day Wholesale electricity prices are lowest for couple of years. So after increasing your bills by 30%, has your bill dropped accordingly? I didn't think so.
      People are sheep.

    • Yep, my thoughts exactly - "and the current customers get %^^&*("

  • +3

FYI the gift card is sent overnight from memory, and you can switch plan to a solar one the next day
Edit: actually I remember, it is sent after 30 or so days but you can change to a new plan the next day as the agl offer only has a basic solar fit

GloBird are upping my gas rate 40% on 1 Jan so perfect timing !

    • +1

Sorry to break the bad news, but if globird upping prices, so will everyone else as they have been the cheapest option for several years

Even if you switch in dec, other companies can change your rates in jan unless it's locked price

      • +3

Don't agree, I think they put peoples prices up after they sign them up. Got an increase a couple months in with them that was way more then the market, and they were offering new customers an even lower rate.

      • Yes I understand how energy plans work… I'd rather get a few months with AGL and some free vouchers than stick around and let them increase my tariff. Hell I might even get through until EOFY if I get lucky

    • Yep, they’re effectively scammers. The old bait and hike. Have dealt with it too.

AGL still owe gift card from 2021.

During the promo, I kept my gift code unused for a mere few weeks and the code was no longer usable. I quickly complained and got reissued a replacement gift code, of which I use it immediately to confirm it's working. I spent $50 out of $200 and the rest of the balance were again not available after few weeks.

After that I made another complaint and it's been almost 2 years since then, no response from AGL.

It appears that the TGG gift codes follow a certain pattern and can be easily stolen. And AGL couldn't care less about resolving your stolen gift card.

Just beware, use the instore gift code immediately once you receive.

    • +1

Sorry but… AGL don't owe you a gift card.

Similar promotional GC offers usually state you are responsible for issued GC (like as if it's cash). Not the promoter (AGL), & GC wont be replaced.

AGL didn't have to replace the first Gift Card. Would have been done (once) as an act of Goodwill.

As you suggest the TGG Gift Card was compromised, that's an issue to take up (at the time) with the card provider or TGG, not AGL. But AGL should be contacted about the issue, as you did.

A good general warning about all Gift Cards.
But not an issue with AGL. Issue may since have been resolved by TGG.

Always use Gift Cards ASAP, in rare case of failure of provider / merchant. Or fraud!

Also "You must activate your Digital Gift Card within 2 months of issue. Your Digital Gift Card will be valid for 12 months from the date of activation."

      • I understand what you mean. In my view this has to be negged because of the lack security of gift code.

I seriously hoped TGG has upgraded their system, the gift code system was prone to theft

The first gift code I was given was something like BBOSC******382 which got stolen with full balance, the code reissued was something like BBOSC******885, which then got stolen with a balance of $150

For me, all numbers on the gift code were the same except for last 3 digits

Anyway I don't expect AGL to care, but this has to be negged for awareness

        • I understand.
Going to the trouble of taking up the
offer to switch - then not receiving rhe benefit… Extremely annoying!!

          Won't be signing up.
This TGG GC offer is of very little interest to me. (5 years since shopped at TGG! GC expires in 1 year, if not stolen earlier😜)

Effectively paid $0 for household energy for over 2 years.
Usually switch electricity retailers every 2 months if there's a good incentive. Rates aren't so important to me (low energy user) - if not staying long.

Took up offer with Woolworths Rewards to switch electricity to Origin.
25,000 Rewards pts ($125cr) & $150 electricity bill credit plus points earnt on every bill.
Always need groceries & electricity, so very handy😉

In my experience, Rewards points are quickly replaced if fraudulently used. Plus now can lock Rewards Dollars on card until want to redeem. A safer way.

    • Interesting, I had a gift card from work which I converted to a JB card.. forgot about it for a while as didn't really need anything. Went to use it one day and it didn't work.. it had been used up in a different state. Contacted JB and they re-issued but still seems odd/bad that they can lose these card/codes so easily and maybe need some secondary info when they are issued.
Spent me re-issued code the next day.

      • +1

Unfortunately many comments here of fraudulent use of gift cards, some store issued MasterCard, loyalty points etc.

Luckily only once had Woolworths Rewards Dollars on account used fraudulently interstate. Contacted Rewards, a new card & number were issued. Points were quickly restored. Very easy.

But not so easy in Gift Card cases. Proving you didn't spend the amount is almost impossible to do. Especially when it happened twice!
(They would be aware it's very easy to sell or give away a gift card. Then make a claim of loss due to fraud.)

In the above case, AGL arranged a new code to activate another Gift Card. At their expense. Purely as goodwill.
They didn't have to do that!

But they may have doubted that second card could have again so quickly been fraudulently used. Goodwill (that costs a business) is usually very limited.

Can you schedule a start date?

Waiting for the origin credit on Jan 15

    • Me too. Infact, I came from AGL (after using their signup bonus) and thinking of going back to AGL if this is still active.

    • I did the Simply Black Friday for $200. Then on to Origin for the Jan 15 deal . Reminds me, need to tweak my account
Signed up for the extra 2000 points / carbon offset..Need to can that.

  • +1

one thing I found with AGL, before I switched away from them, was that any percentage 'discounts' they were offering did not apply to the quite high daily service charge. they called me from an overseas call centre to try and offer a higher percentage discount via their accounts team when I was switching - but when I said 'you don't apply the discount to the service charge do you?' I could tell she knew I'd done my homework.

might be an ok deal, but best to use the state govt energy compare website any time your provider increases their rate. you want one with cancel anytime without penalty, no ongoing contract, as a primary feature.

    • Are there any providers that discount the service charge? I thought none of them ever did that.

      • Red Energy used to (owned by snowy hydro as are Lumo). Though it's really not about faux percentage discounts. The lowest base rates matter - both service and usage charges. This is what the govt energy sites aim to compare. Shortlist the top three or so from the comparison and then check their rates against each other from their main websites. Try and go for one without a lock-in contract.

What is the $200 Simply Energy Bonus?

  • Will I get the $125 voucher if I am an existing electricity customer but open a new gas plan with AGL?

I may switch regardless since my current gas retailer is hiking their rates from 1 Jan.

No one should be using any of the big 5 if they want to save money on electricity. The exception is potentially if you've got solar and or ev but still there are cheaper options

    • +2

      Depends where you live.

      • I do competitive pricing for energy retailers so I know the ranking for every usage levels. Big 5 are middle of the pack in every network distributor because they have sticky and unengaged customers. We scrap data from energy made easy site.

        • I dunno about NSW, but I am with Origin in Canberra and they were the cheapest when I signed up.

        • Whats the best solar plan for QLD?

    • +1

      Who are the big 5?

      • AGL, Origin, energyaustralia, simply energy, Alinta

  • +2

Link seems to include some kind of partner or referral code? pcode=YY200Jonah

    • +3

Jonah is getting a big comp bonus from AGL this Xmas…

  • Is a gift card like this or 42% off works out better in the long run?

    • +4

Who does long run anything when sign up offers abound?

  • It is a bit weird not sure if it is just my case, I have just called up the 1300 769 182, and an Indian lady was asking me for the store location and the TGG EMPLOYEE number to make me eligible for this offer.
That means I will have to go to The GoodGuys first, talk to a staff and see if s/he knows about this reward program and willing to offer me his/her employee number before applying this gift card offer?

Guess I will have to head to the TGG and try again, why make this so troublesome?

    • same here. they asked the TGG store name and Emplyee name. Interesting…

Isn't the offer open to public?

    • Could you share me store location and the TGG EMPLOYEE number if you got one?I am in same situation

      • +2

I got one from a very nice Asian lady staff:
        The Good Guys Macgregor
        50001480

        • They are asking for the staff name as well!

        • I called 1300769182 and everything done smoothly with the staff detail, they did not ask me staff name. thank you. It help me a lot.

  • +4
    • Def the best offer in WA thank you!

What's the connection with WestPac btw? Don't see a mention other than in link

  • aren't AGL and Simply Energy different companies so are you stacking by using one for elec one for gas?

  • Anybody thinking of joining AGL that have a government scheme Feed-in tariff be aware you will not receive a AGL Feed-in tariff aswell.

“Please note: you are not eligible for AGL’s solar feed-in tariff if you are receiving a feed-in tariff under a government scheme” https://shorturl.at/cgzDI
