We are stll in a global pandemic arent we?

      • +19

        He didn't say we weren't.

        • +5

          ahh

    • +15

This is like bitcoin in 2012, buy 1000 bottles and HODL till next pandemic .. 🚀 🚀 🚀

      • +75

Depends if there is a liquid market for these. If not your gains could evaporate fairly quickly.

        • +3

          chuckles

        • Best reply I've read in years lol. Double pun all the way across the sky.

      • I bought a large bottle in late 2019 by chance

        • You could be sitting on a gold mine

    • +2

I paid $3 less in 2021 after discounts so reasonable inflation bump, can't complain.

    • I got 3 x 5l for $40 shipped in 2018.

Lasted us through the pandemic. I'm guessing the last of it probably wasn't 99% anymore, but hey, still worked well for our purposes.

Just bought a 20l drum off these guys recently, and a bunch of other stuff. Good supplier.

  • +2

Just confirming this alcohol can be used to clean electronics?

    • +16

      Yes.

Had loads of this stuff sitting around pre-covid then watched the mass hysteria buying when the pandemic hit, thinking "wtf"

      • Same here, got it to clean pc parts. I was like free hand sanitizer :D

    • Correct.

    • Yes, I have been using these to clean few of my computer parts.
Bought of pre-pandemic, and still have few litres remaining.

For monitors/TVs with sensitive coatings, I prefer using distilled water, otherwise I use isopropyl alcohol on most other electronics.

    • +5

Prefect for that, because it evaporates so quickly.

This is also why 100% is not suitable for sanitising, evaporates too quickly before it gets a chance to deal with the bad stuff.

Typical hand senitiser and rubber alcohol are 70% to 80%.

      • You cna just mix it down with tap water for that, it will be fine and you will get about 6.5L or so in the end

        • +3

Yeah. That's how we make our 80% v/v ethanol spray in viral and microbiological research labs.
Generally we use MilliQ but tap water will be fine.

      • +4

Add (preferably-distilled) water to lower concentration, then throw in some aloe gel for the gel experience.. you've got some cheap sanitiser.

        • +2

Is that really the difference between the percentages the amount of water?

          • +1

@Kirbieb: Yes mate. What did you think the rest was?😂

            • +5

@bbbargain1: Ill be honest no idea. I remember a while ago i needee some 70% but could only find 100% and didnt buy it because…….im special sometimes.

              • @Kirbieb: I cut mine with pure isopropanol, like this.

If you leave sanitiser in the bottle, esp. in the car, it tends to evaporate out anyway leaving just gel behind.

Drop in a little isopropanol, and it lives again!

    • +1

      use this to refurb gameboys

  • +2

Min shipping to Brisbane are around $28, for four around $40. I use it for 3D resin printing, it's still cheaper to just buy a 20L of Methylated Spirits from the Big Green Shed for my purposes.

    • +1

Shipping to Melbourne is showing as $27 for me. OP must have gotten something different when they ordered I guess.

      • More likely Sydney Solvents messing around.

        • you're right, now its has the option for Courier Please if you buy one 5kg - $7.91 and Border Express - $28.07, if you want to buy more than 1 than no Courier Please option and goes up to Border Express - $32.06.

          • @Goliathus: I got some toluene and paraffin oil off them recently…all under Couriers Please fortunately. Must be a tipping point there somewhere. Better to do multiple orders!

    • last year i bought a 20l bottle from them for $87 delivered to brisbane. freight was $15 back then

    • Double check cos I'm on the Gold Coast and have bought from here multiple times. Can get $8 shipping option.

      • Same, it defaults to a more expensive option but the $8 option is there, as long as you only buy one as it seems to be a 5KG satchel or something.

    • Check again. It has $7.91 option now.

  • +12

Equivalent amount at Bunnings would cost $392 in 125mm bottles or $277.50 in 500ml spray bottles !!!!

    • Yeah the Diggers branded stuff is pricey.

  • +9

    this plus flavouring = Party!

    • +7

Of course I am joking ……

      • +58

        Exactly, who needs flavouring ? :) .

      • +5

Of course I am joking ……

Argh, too late… Bye cruel world…

    • +3

      Name checks out

    • +1

      Prison cocktails

      • That would almost be worth it's weight in gold in prison, you could sell portions for a huge markup…

'White lightning' I think some call it in there.

  • +1

Wow $33 shipping to Gold Coast kills the deal for me .

    • $35.57 to Dubbo NSW.

    • -4

You're doing something wrong then. $8 for me on the Coast and I've bought twice from here before (5L bottle)

      • +5

What could be wrong enter post code then it gives me cost .

        • +2

Obviously you're entering the wrong post code. Try using the same one that Prickles is ;-)

          • @OZKap: Sometimes the courier option isnt there.
This offer was posted recently and when it was posted I checked and there was only the expensive delivery option available.
So many days later I checked again and the courier option was there and I got it for this price.

  • +6

It can be found on Ebay for around $40 for 5 litres including delivery.

  • +5

    Loving the QWERTYUIOP discount code!

    • +3

IT guy had a little too much to drink … no pun intended

  • +3

i remember i made a fortune on this stuff when the pandemic started. bought 5L bottles at 30 dollars and sold them for $200

    • -2

      How many bottles?
Was Mark McGowan your number 1 customer?

    • +29

      Did you brode… Oh wait….

    • +1

      omg the chosen one

    • +1

I bet they watered them down into hand sanitiser and made even more profit.

  • +2

I'm in melbourne and cheapest option for delivery I get is $27.

How did you get $7.91 OP?

    • Same, no option to change delivery

    • +1

That's bizarre! Looks like they've removed Couriers Please option. Mine to Melb Metro was definitely $7.91

      • Maybe they want them to get to the people ordering

      • Sydney Solvents being sneaky.

  • This was liquid gold 3 years ago. I remember 100ml would cost around $20-30

  • Perth people where do you buy isopropyl alcohol from?

  • +1

Does it come with a cocktail shaker?

  • +1

    Border Express - $37.78

    Oof

  • +1

Thanks OP, will use to spike the punch at family Christmas lunch.

  • any… uh other solutions for WA? comes up $36 shipping.

    • maybe try statewide cleaning supplies in ozzy park

    • If you're metro it should be much lower with the Couriers Please option, came up to $10 something for me.
Checking post codes in Melbourne it was close to $8, I dunno how they can manage to ship something all that distance for only $2 more

      • Couriers Please have lost 3 parcels in the last 1 month :/ I wouldn't risk it

  • +1

Been using this stuff for years, it's great.

There aren't many applications under which you'd want to use it at 100% — be sure to get some distilled water to bring it down from 100% in a separate container.

I do a 50/50 mix with in a squirt bottle and use it to clean all my screens, phones, etc — be sure to use a microfibre cloth on your screens to prevent scratching.

Be sure to store this stuff correctly.

    • What are the proper storage conditions?

      • +1

        Liquor cabinet?

        Jks dont drink this stuff.

      • -3

Google can easily help you :)

    • +1

100% (90%+) is typical for cleaning electronics (PCBs). 70% is best as a disinfectant.

I suppose you could use it at 50% for general purpose cleaning…

    • +3

clean all my screens, phones, etc

Hey mate you're slowly ruining your screens. Grab some demineralised water for cleaning screens, it evaporates without leaving any marks and it won't eat away any protective coatings.

      • -3

You might want to check your facts, Google can help you :)

        • +4

Please enlighten me. Iso is a solvent, you shouldn’t use solvents on modern screens which all have various protective coatings.

First google result is Apples care guide which says the same. Please show me a manufacturer care guide which recommends otherwise.

Used to work in IT for a call centre, I’ve seen firsthand many times the effects of screens being cleaned with solvents.

        • +5

Iso on plastic screens will make them develop a haze. how long this will take depends on how often and how much you use.

          • @ProlapsedHeinous: Yeah and not only that it’s actually easier to get a streak free finish with demineralised water, it cleans just as well, and it’s something like 1/10th the price of iso. I already have a 4l jug of iso at home but I use that for other things.

  • I assume 70% alcohol, like hand sanitizers isn't good enough for cleaning?

    • +1

It's not the 70% alcohol that's the problem, it's the 30% water left behind that's the problem for cleaning delicate things like electronics

100% alcohol evaporates without a trace

      • Thank you

I just wanted to clean needles, like sterilize a derma roller? Etc

    • The title literally says 100%. Add distilled water if needed depending on application or use as is.
