  • Gold or Plat for normal PC use?

    • Plat.

      • +1

Ty, waiting for my $10 amazon credit to come through so I can get it for $178, which is the price of the all time lowest as posted on Ozb

        • +3

I might be wrong but credit in amazon works differently. You won't see it in your balance. It gets applied automatically once you add item in cart. Try that and see if it reduces price by $10 in cart.

          • +1

@Sam816: Correct for promotional credits. However I’m fairly sure they only apply to sold and shipped by Amazon au products and so wouldn’t apply here anyway.

            • @Yekul: (profanity) me shoulda went with Prezzee. I'll just use the -10 on another transaction

    • 20 dollar price diff mate

      Go the plat

Way better IOPS,a much better controler, faster read writes

The Gold makes sense as s 2nd game drive

Put a p41 as boot and main drive, and just at that price get the gold as mass storage

      • +1

Using P41 from last deal as main drive. Awesome speeds.

Only issue was cloning OS over, either the sw or something I did or had prior messed up the UEFI boot. Took ages to kind of fix. I really should just of done a clean install after many years.

        • I had issues cloning until I decided to just use the software on the Hynix website and it worked straight away

Literally won’t even notice the difference, for ‘normal pc use’ (making some assumptions of course).

Seriously the $20 extra is just a waste of money for average users.

Edit: People get caught up in the ‘on paper’ stats of the gen4 drives but seriously in real world every day user usage most people would rarely do anything to notice a difference at all. I’m sure there will now be a flood of niche replies on how it’s an absolute game changer.

      • +4

+1 just gonna put it out there that I swapped my boot drive from an 860 Evo sata to a sn550 nvme (both 1tb) like 5-6 years ago and hardly noticed any difference in just general desktop use.

      • -1

Not true, double iops speed definitely can notice the different for daily usage. Although the difference is mostly less than a second, but it's more snappier, worths the extra money comparing cpu upgrade. And all OS will be slower after using a while.

        • +1

Less than a second's difference? Not sure if I'm sold.

          • @Mintchip: Like most things, go back to the old drives and you will see how those 1s make a difference. But your right, it won't change your life, ignorance is bliss for your wallet.

  • one day we will see consumer grade SLC drives at this size/price

    • I don't think we'll ever see consumer SLC drives again.

Dam. kinda looking around for a decent Gen4 4TB.

  • Very happy with the 1TB Gold in my Framework laptop.

  • just concerned why it is not compatible for use in a ps5. anyone aware if this would fit in a mele quieter3c mini pc? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/819352).

    • +1

The gold drives are too slow for a PS5.

  • P41 was $178 last deal :(

    • Prezzee for extra $10 on gift card purchase for 178

  • +2

How are these drives ? Are they reliable ?

    • +1

I've had the P41 for around 6 months, no issues so far. Definitely recommend.

      • Thank you

  • +1

Thanks, was originally going to buy Crucial P3 as secondary game drive (crucial had sales on Black Friday) if it goes on sale.

$3 extra for a better drive, I'll take that deal. Looks like this time around SK Hynix is going on boxing day sale and no sale for Crucial.

  • Would a Lexar NM790 for $90 be a better buy vs the gold p31 1tb? Sorry if this is a newbie question.

    • +1

The P31 should be a better drive

    • +2

      PS5 - NM790
      Everything else - P31

      • Straight to the point - thank you both! xD

  • Would the 2tb variants got into a ROG Ally?

  • +1

Awesome! Thanks Op, got a gold one.

  • Is Platinum p41 good for gaming and how does this compare to Kingston Fury Renegade? Is it worth paying an extra $10 for Kingston from MSY? https://www.msy.com.au/product/kingston-fury-renegade-2tb-pc…

    • +1

They're quite comparable in some ways but the P41 is better, you don't really need the speed for either of them for games either way. Between those two, just go for the P41.
