I bought one of these a while ago and it didn't fit in my fridge so this might help some.

  • I've one, way better than the jag and no need to take it out from the fridge.

    • Is it essy to fill the tank? Do you need to take the whole tank out ?

      • +1

I have one, you just slide that blue bit on the lid and can pour water right in, needs a filter though

As @CheapMike89 said, there is an access hatch for filling without removing it (I fill a Pyrex jug with water and top it up occasionally when I’m refilling my water bottle). but just a heads up - semi regular cleaning is important for keeping the water tasting good. Once a month or so, when I change the filter, I give it all a little wash. Depending how hard your local water is could vary how often you need to do that.

Remember when things like this and shavers and printers and video game consoles and electric toothbrushes were cheap because they would make the money on the refills?

  • Does it come with a choice of red or white?

  • Too expensive for the MIL but the theme is on point

    • LOL…

  • I just upgraded to this from a jug version and it’s a life saver. Wish I did it sooner.

    • Damn, did the jug crush your child or something?

  • FYI for anyone wanting to buy just the filters they are generally cheapest at Bunnings for some reason. $50 for pack of 6, not on sale https://www.bunnings.com.au/brita-maxtra-pure-performance-fi…

    • Kmart has generic filters at 3 for $15. Can't comment on quality or taste, but reviews seem overall positive

    • Bought the Philips ones from Myer yesterday. Discounted to $43.96 for a 6 pack. Compatible with Brita, model: AWP212

      • Oh nice, didn’t know they were compatible thank you

    Genuinely curious on this.

Can someone help me understand why is this filter needed in Aus? (specifically Melbourne)? My spouse insists that we get one even though the TDS level of our tap water is 35-36 ppm which is one of the cleanest I have seen.

I will probably just get this one to make her stop yapping about it but I want to understand why do people buy those filters here?

    • +1

Sometimes after a heavy storm event, my water from the tap comes out brown and muddy and smells like that. Other times, if they are doing some pipe work, like maintenance or replacing a burst water main, quite often the water once it comes back on is also muddy/brown
Also, some people may be sensitive to hard water and some of the chemicals the water authorities add (eg chlorine) and may develop mild eczema due to this

      • my issue with this system is a filter - we don't know on what level QA is: I recall cases when people talked about having simple dirt or mould building up in those, that's why I stopped using these and for now I am just boiling water, huge hassle though, but also eliminates chlorine. Another thing is fluoride in water - no clue how to clean from that yet.

I got one because of the same reason… cheap way to stop the yapping.

      • Worth every penny 😹

There's no need unless you are filling from old pipes or close to the reservoir.

I've been drinking from public taps in Victoria half my life when I'm riding and hiking and I'm still the same level of stupid I was born with.

No evidence fluoridation has any negative effects in the trace amounts we consume.

Certainly far less of a concern than the micro and nano plastics we are consuming regularly.

    • The Britta filter is quite good with taste performance like under bench top filters. I would recommend to anyone to try and compare againstts your tap water or even after your standard bench filtered water.

The taste is much better mainly due to the activated coal pieces inside.

    • For me I don’t do it because I’m worried about tap water quality. I think I get a reaction to the chlorine or something. If I don’t drink filtered water I get sore throat symptoms. It’s not placebo or anything either, I would genuinely prefer to drink tap water, filtration is expensive.

Maybe it’s because I grew up with filtered water so I never got used to tap water - my parents are from a country with poor water quality so it’s just a habit they brought over.

  • I hate the taste of tap water - Brisbane - hard water. I have the jug that I don't find at all inconvenient and it just makes the water taste like water should

Also if you get the limescale filter it's good for espresso machines

  • I was initially dubious about this when my wife brought it home. It does take up a bit of space in the fridge however, the kids are now regularly drinking water due to the novelty of filling it up themselves from the tap. That's a win for us. Taste is maybe a little better than our tap water (Newcastle) and it's nice to have a fair bit of filtered cold water available. Recommended.

  • For anyone without any stock at any local Big Ws (don't want to pay $12 for shipping) and who can't get a hold of Officeworks, there's a solution.

If you go to the Woolworths App, you can purchase things from the Everyday Rewards Marketplace. Big W sells through there as well and if you have OnePass, you can get your Brita Flow shipped for free. all while gaining everyday rewards points.

(There's currently a booster for 2000 points if you spend over $120+ on their boxing day sales - so if you plan on buying a lot of stuff, that's the way to go.)
