Awesome, looks like I’ve found something to replace my Boost home internet for 2 months. T&Cs allow us to cancel at any time for free, and their Double Data promotion is stackable with this.

  • +41

This was posted yesterday by me but I requested the mods to remove it

People have advised that they were still charged for the free 2 months period and that they continue still do after the trial period too

    • +14

      Classic Customer Service from Tangerine.

If this is anything like their NBN you'll need to cancel 30 days in advance and if you pay the final bill by credit card (which is the default) they'll invoice you again for the card surcharge.

      • I'm not sure about all providers, but Exetel also does this.

        • +7

Exetel are the worst… they push u into a corner for months then as soon as you hit the ombudsmen - they run so fast

          • @Splashtash: its in their terms and they make it quite clear.

and it is still way better than getting charged outside the contract end period. or getting overcharged etc.

        • -1

          Superloop too afaik

      • Burner cards possible? Times like this I suggest people start using those disposable cards/sims ^^

        • +2

How are you doing to do that exactly? I guess you could try and fake your name, address and use a prepaid credit card?

    • +2

      Ohhh thanks for the update.

    • +3

I took up their 2 months free data SIM plan (offer through BUPA) and wasn't charged anything thankfully

    • +6

Thanks I used a Revolut card with low balance. The website doesn't inspire a lot of confidence.

      • +4

It’s more like they were issuing an outstanding debt to the people who have cancelled it and CS reps weren’t helpful at all

        • +3

CS reps? TIO is your CS rep for issues with phone service providers. Any issue that you think is bs, contact TIO and they'll resolve your issue and fine the provider. As soon as the TIO is involved, then the provider will be at your mercy and do anything you ask

        • OK well they can try but I'll keep evidence when cancelling

    • same experience here from both Tangerine and More

      rubbish teco

      • +2

port out, then how can they keep charging you ?

    • +1

thanks for true feedback again ! as I expected tangerine will never improve

    • +1

Sounds like they should be called Lemon not Tangerine.

  • Anyone knows if Tangerine eSim would work on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 LTE? Heard from a guide that you'd need a QR code for the eSim for it to work.

  • +16

As others have noted, I would be very careful with Tangerine - I’m on their NBN and while the service is excellent, the customer service is simply appalling.

They close support tickets quickly despite problems being unresolved - classic call centre trick to improve their resolution numbers

    • +4

I second that, tangerine and more both are same company and poor customer service

    • +2

I third this! Happened to me as well.
Sent me a bill 9 months (!!!) after closing account and after ringing had twice more bill sent.
Prob one of my worst customer care experiences with all nbn providers

    • I feel like rather than 2 free months and a possible headache, I'll just go 1 month free* with Boost and then 1 month for $4 with Lebara like I've been doing.

At this stage there's essentially zero incentive to go with another provider that is effectively only supplying uncertainty - they would need to pay ME. At least with Mate I got $9 via cashback.

      *Actually for profit.

      • Is the $4 leaves 5g with heaps of data? I’m looking for something to replace home internet as I can’t get boost anymore

        • Nah the $4 sim on special is the XS Starter Pack which is 4GB+4GB bonus data. The S and M do go on special pretty regularly too in the $6-$10 range but I don't pay much attention as this is just to cycle my main number and give me walking around data, Boost for my main data use.

    • +1

Sounds like DoorDash. Their service is a rabble. Had to tweet the CEO, VP and board members on twitter to get a resolution after 8x live chats and calls didn't help.

    • are those people from Philippines ?

    • Agreed! Had appalling customer service experience. Rude, unresponsive, do not listen to me, closed ticket on my face.

  • +2

Easy just you revolute disposable cards and your all set, nothing to worry about, now that's what I call a infinate data glitch.

    • +2

Revolut disposable doesn't work with tangerine

      • +2

My Revolut virtual card worked for authorisation. It was not the single use disposable but I can cancel anytime.

    • Just tried, revolute doesn’t work

      • -1

It's credit card why will it now work? I used for Kogan Telstra vodaphine and many things never had issues, maybe some of your setting blocking with security issues.

        • I dunno but revolut disposable card doesn’t make work at many sites based on my experience

          revolut virtual card is fine

          • +1

@ujwols: Assume because it is sold as an ongoing service so single use card is not accepted.

    • +4

UP also has 'digital' CC's you can cancel at anytime (which automatically creates a new one).

  • +6

    Terrible customer service

  • Aren't they the same as More Telecom?

    • Yep

      • -2

I see no problems with More telecom ?

        • My problem with More (and Mate) is the signal is so shit at my residence. Sometimes its so bad I have to fall back to my spare phone that is on Amaysim (Optus 4G). Having said that it is an isolated issue for my area, like Vodafone in Burwood.

  • At least on their NBN plans Tangerine don't include GST in their advertised prices. This and atrocious customer service is enough to look elsewhere.

  • Would this work on Telstra 5G home internet modem if I were to just swap the sim ?

    • +1

      Yes.

      • +1

        Thanks mate, much appreciated.

  • +3

Cheers OP. My free 3 months More end in 2 weeks, will jump on this for 2 free month then back to more for another 3 months free

First 5 months of the year sorted

    • +1

      Yep! Doing the same.

    • So you can port back into More as a "new" customer despite having taken up the free offer previously?

      • +1

Not with the same ID I think.
"If you have any active More mobile services or have previously held a More mobile service, you are ineligible for this offer."

        • That's what I was thinking, given it's presumably tied with your Commbank customer details.

        • +1

You allowed up to 5 services (3 months free)

  • So is this prepaid or postpaid? If after free trial I don't recharge can I still keep the number just to receive calls?

    • +2

Postpaid, and it's not a trial, just $0.

  • +3

What about More Mobile? https://www.commbank.com.au/latest/partnerships/more-mobile.… It offers 3 months free, but has to be a Commbank customer. Is there any fuzz to cancel during the first free 3 months period?

    • +2

I port out. No issue from More

    • +2

      Thanks mate.

I’ve used Tangerine and had no dramas porting two numbers out after the free period but not keen to risk any drama so More’s a nice option.

  • I'm not happy with their internet speed. I got 100/20, and download speed is always below 50

    Any suggestion for another provider?
I was with More before and they were better

    • +3

More and Tangerine are the same owners I believe

  • +6

    They are not prepaid.
You will continue to receive a bill despite already ported out.
You will need to contact their customer service to finallise the billing repeatedly.
In the end, you will need to use TIO to make them finalise the billing.

    • +2

Sounds like a nightmare. I will avoid this company.

    • No issue for me, ported out just one day before reset for the 4th month. Provide more info to support your complaint. When is your plan reset date in a month and when did you port it out?

If your plan reset on the 10th and you just port the number out on the 10th, it has the right to charge you for the 4th month's usage. The correct move is to successfully port it out on the 9th if not earlier.

      • +2

Even if that was the case, you would think that they would have everything cleared out and sorted out the very next month, after you contacted them. They assured you that it is sorted out, and the next month same thing happened again, and again. Until you bring it up with TIO, then suddenly they take it seriously and have your account totally removed from the system.

  • +5

I would reckon to avoid this telco, they charged me full
price when I signed $1 per month for 3 months, also their app is awful.

  • Can you port into this company and then port out for JBHIFI?? Both telstra network

  • +6

I saw this post yesterday and shared my billing experience on that post. I took up this offer in March and have been harrassed ever since. I cancelled the plan before the 2 months free was up as it was no minimum contract I did not expect to be charged.

    March $0.00
    April $0.00
    May $58.44
    June $84.90
    July $70.16
    August $68.40
    September $23.40
I haven't been invoiced since the September invoice.

I cancelled in April and haven't paid any of the following invoices and now they want $305.30. I am ignoring their requests.

    • +3

why is it a random $ cost ?

      • +3

They are adding on service and collection fees.

    • +4

Have you spoken to the TIO? I wouldn’t just ignore it, could eventually have a negative impact on your credit file.

      • +4

Too much effort. I have no further need for credit so my credit file is not important. However, thankyou for thinking about my credit file. It could have been important.

    • -1

The problem with Tangerine is they sold you a postpaid contract and you have to fight to close it. At the mean time, they are free to write whatever they want on your credit history, worse if they have sell you bill to debt collector…..

  • Did you get yr money back?

  • If you value your time and money avoid this mob at all costs

  • "This offer is available on a maximum of 5 mobile services per account"

Anyone know if they will do a credit check? I remember the HN/Optus post for a post paid number having a credit check. The outcome was you are eligible for up to 5 services. Wording is similar which is what has made me suspicious. Did not find anything about credit on the CIS.

    Your help would be appreciated!

  • I am on 6 month NBN contract at a reduced rate of $49.95 per month. Got first invoice 6/12 with higher rate for Nov and Dec. Invoice online now is dated 13/12 and incorrect but my CC was charged the right amount after I had raised a ticket earlier on.

No idea why it is so hard and if intentional, hoping you don’t notice.

    • same boot. But they increased their plan fee from December

  • +1

Tangerine lol, NO. Fed up with their CS.

  • My wife has ported from Boost to Tangerine via eSIM.
Currently no mobile phone service while awaiting the activation with Tangerine.

This is the first time we've connected via eSIM so perhaps is a normal process, however thought it would be more seamless than this.

Boost disconnected around 9am today and waiting for a QR code to transfer and activate to Tangerine. Any ideas how long this normally takes via eSIM?

We've contacted support and logged a service job for an update, hopefully the number is connected soon.

    • Just keep refreshing the activation screen until you get the QR code, for me in less than a few minutes it got activated, very simple process.

      • Tried that and nothing at all.

Customer service haven't helped at all, they've told me it's all part of the activation process and can take between 15 minutes and 40 hours.. not impressed if this is a standard eSim transfer, though from the amount of posts here, I'm not sure how much of this is related to Tangerine as a company.

        • Activated this morning, fingers crossed all good from here.

  • iD verification failed, tried valid passport, Medicare and drivers licence.

Unable to cancel service and it says I'll be billed still…

  • i couldnt process the order. Stuck at the payment page due to risk something

  • This sounds like a croc of a company to be steered clear of totally. Caveat emptor!

  • +5

Sorry OP but Tangerine's customer service is so appalling that I had to cancel the service today. They let me port in fine from Vodafone but I was their customer back in April 2022 and ported out in May 2022.

They still consider me as an existing customer and won't honor this deal.

Their T&Cs are a joke as I couldn't find a single reference nor did the agent who was serving me, where it defines an existing customer.

They charged my card a full amount for the 5G 150GB plan and refusing to refund it.

    • +3

I had a similar experience when they had the same promotion about a year ago. I ported in 2 numbers that had previously been with Tangerine. Nowhere in the terms and conditions did it state that a number previously with Tangerine was not considered a new service. I eventually got my money back, but it took a lot of time and effort, getting the TIO involved, etc.

  • was anyone able to sign up with prepaid mastercard?
    getting transaction declined

  • +1

This is my conversation with the customer service over the chat regarding cancelling the service

Me: Some customers have reported being charged the full amount for the plan instead of the promotional price, or being invoiced after porting out or cancelling the service. What if I want to cancel the service after the 2 months free period? How do I cancel the service? Do I need to contact your customer service or can I do it online? Do I need to provide 30 days notice?

Jacq: you just get back to us and cancel your service

Me: would you mind telling me how?

Jacq: send us a message here again if you want to cancel your service or you can give us a call as well

Me: Is a minimum notice period necessary?

Jacq: nope you can cancel anytime you want to

    What do you think?

    • +2

      This was my conversation:

[27/12/2023 09:13:48] Visitor: yes one more question, in case I want to cancel my service in the
future, do I have to speak to you or can I just go into the portal and "deactivate my service'? so I
do not need to speak to someone?
[27/12/2023 09:15:56] Chelle: You can submit a cancellation request via your online portal on the
      last day of bill cycle.

  • Does the tangerine account details need to be the same as mobile phone holder details? Looking to order this for my folks and it asks for a different DOB for porting on the second last page but it doesn't ask for a different name. I'm used to entering all these details only when activating, not when purchasing.

  • +1

was Tangerine self portal down from yesterday? got "sth wrong" after login

    • same here was logging in got to the 2FA screen then it no longer worked since, think i broke it

      • looks back now. when ordered this free SIM with credit card added, they replaced my NBN debit setup then caused payment failed.

        • im still experiencing issues, even tried few mins before your post

This page isn’t working right now
          myaccount.tangerinetelecom.com.au didn’t send any data.
