    Amazing film!

  • +6

Saw it at IMAX and it was okay, nothing groundbreaking. Not a bad movie to watch if you already have the sub though.

  • +19

Story line drags on too long. They could have condensed it in 40 min and made it more enjoyable.

  • +13

2.5hrs of sterile space scenes. I couldn't wait for the credits to roll.

    • +3

Why didn’t you just stop watching?

      • +7

        For the credits to roll.

        • Disney+ has a fast forward function

          • @illusion99: I'd have fast forwarded the entire movie, first 30m don't grab you and you don't care for anyone or anything that joins in later.

    • Huh? It was only the end of the movie that was set in space. Maybe half an hour, if that. Are you sure you're talking about the same movie?

    • I do think it's fair that this film is a bit polarising - but I don't think its fair to call it sterile. Script-writing-wise certainly this movie isn't winning any awards - but from a experience perspective I thought it was tremendous. From an aural and cinematographic viewpoint this is one of the most interesting sci-fi movies I've seen in a while. If, like me, you're also a fan of the critically-not-well-received Oblivion for the visuals and audio - and you also get a kick out of great effects like we've seen in the sci-fi space from Neill Blomkamp - I think you're in for a real treat with this one.

      • Speaking of Neil Bloomkamp, Gran Turismo Movie was the best film of 2023, 10/10 start to finish.

        • Gran Turismo was very fun - but I think The Holdovers might have been my movie of the year.

    • Why?

      • Because @jv has not approved this deal yet

      • +4

Even so, let’s have some quality control people, when the OP admits that it only has 66% on RT…

        • The notion that something must achieve some level of subjective critical approval to be posted on a bargain website is a bit nonsense. In saying this 66% on RT is relatively high. Two thirds of people/critics enjoyed the movie - which means you might too? If you only watch movies that everyone else likes then you're likely missing out on a truckload of movies you might love!

  • What's it about?

    • +1

An android child thats supposed to be some kind of weapon

    • -1

Sci Fi version of Team America (sort of)

    • +10

Everything you don't like is a pentagon instrument.

      • That's actually pretty true statement.

    • Dude i like you - you can see through the illusion(s) set up by those in positions of power

    • +11

What pentagon propaganda? I thought the americans were the "bad guys" in this movie.

      • +5

That's just what they want you to think. There's actually a subliminal message embedded that will convince everyone to invest in obscure US tech stocks, in turn funding the nuclear weapons base they're building on the moon in league with The Three Holes alliance.

        /s (or is it?)

        • +5

"The Three Holes alliance". Of course, now it all makes sense. Bowling balls have always given me the creeps, and I know why now.

      • -5

As opposed to other all-American great AI movies such as Terminator/s, Matrix, Blade Runner/s, Ex-Machina, I am Mother (this one is Aussie) etc. the war is not between 'humans' and 'AI robots'. It is between the West (represented only by the Americans) and the Asians who are so-called made the AI robots slave.
Year 2065 not so far away and another-along with Middle East, Far East, Near East etc.- a new insulting regional name coined: New South Asia where the foreseeable next war will be. The West always is West. It seems Russia, Latin America and other non-west elements are already excluded from the West, except the blacks with the leading actor's role.

        • Firefly similar

        • -1

          except the blacks

          😳

          • -1

@Raynes: They ally with black people by making him as leading actor. 'New South Asia' how similar to 'New South Wales', 'New York' etc! That's how the colonists name a new occupied territory.

  • +5

    6/10

Amazing cinematic visuals especially when you look at the behind the scenes production where they used relatively small and cheap cameras

Bad editing with parts where they removed 10-15mins of character development here and there that makes it a mess

    • +1

The dialogue is horrific, there's not many films I don't persist and finish but I couldn't bring myself to go through with this. The scrip is just so so bad.. How it left the studio like this I'll never understand.

      • That's what prey was like for me

      • The "see you in Valhalla' line was so cringe worthy

  • +8

Humans with little effort walk into the most important Ai base that is sheltering the most important weapon and face little resistance.

That part ruined the film for me.

Where are the damn sentinels with laser beams on their freakin heads

    • +4

This was the part when I gave up. The movie is unwatchable due to its dumb script.

  • -8

How is this a bargain again?

    • -4

      Right..!?

    • +10

[SUBS] has been a thing for ages. Stop negging a compliant post and just hide the tag if you dont want to see it. Very simple.

      • -8

I think such "deals" should be opt-in, instead of opt-out.

        • +5

There's many more who appreciate the post and enjoy it as a deal, than there are people who can't read and complain about the deals

          • -2

@DiscountForThee: Conversely there's a legion of people that don't actually agree with the status quo but simply can't be bothered putting up with the whining bullshit of you and the others if they dare to express such.

People are allowed to disagree with the "Status quo', and they are entitled to their own vote.

Stop negging a comment and just hide the user if you don't want to see it. Very simple.

              whining bullshit

Stop negging a comment and just hide the user if you don't want to see it. Very simple.

Literally your entire contribution to this post has been "whining bullshit" when you could have easily hidden it - very simple.

            • @Ademos: Did you open this deal, neg the deal, comment, complain about it… When you could have just followed the instructions and hidden them for you?

Why have you not hidden them from your feed? Are you okay?

        • +2

I think you should stop commenting, instead of commenting.

      • -1

    • +2

      Stop whining

  • +8

Boring movie… It looked like it had good production value but everything else was meh

    • +2

really boring, it's a shame because the concepts (and there are so many different concepts) were great but not elaborated on. Would've worked better as a limited series

  • +3

    Still better than Rebel moon

    • +3

It's like 300 and The Marvels had a very unwelcome child.

    • +1

Does Zach Snyder have a mother issue? Every 2nd word is “motherland” and in Justice League every 3rd word was “mother boxes”. Made for a good drinking game

  • -7

    Only Disney+ ?

It would have been a bargain if it was Disney+++

  • +2

    Really really enjoyed it.

    Worthwhile if you like sci-fi.

Loved the mix of a poor rural Asian country with futuristic tech. So cool

    • +1

the part i liked most was probably that scene where the killed footsoldier had his concsiousness temporarily installed in an android only to be told he has been killed and is about to fade. poor bastard

  • Trailer looked amazing but reviews are poor. Will still watch it considering they shot this with a relatively simple camera, inspiring.

  • -1

Very good movie, breathes new life into the sci-fi space and at a low budget too!

  • Is the Beirut bombing still copy pasted in

  • +1

All the movies that go straight to Disney plus are pretty boring….dial of destiny, antman 3, the creator

    • +2

All those movies were released in Australian cinemas before Disney +

      • Sorry, meant straight to Disney plus from cinemas.

    • I liked Dial of Destiny. Antman 3 was okay. Creator looks bad tho. And most other Disney original movies look bad or sappy.

  • Is it available anywhere else?

  • +3

Incredibly average sci fi for anyone that enjoys sci fi. Far better examples out there. It’s a pretty movie though.

  • +1

any attempt at original sci-fi that's decent is exciting.

Gareth Edwards can only improve from here and has Dennis Villeneuve potential.

  • +4

Very average flick. Had been looking forward to it…

  • +3

Has to be the film with one of the dumbest scripts I've ever seen. Just awful.

  • +1

Echoing many other comments here - visually stunning, but let down by a terrible script and a story that made no sense.

They also must have used machine translation for all the Japanese text given the number of mistakes - should have asked Ken Watanabe to check the output while he was on set. The funniest might have been 募集中 ('now hiring') for 'wanted' when certain characters are being hunted.

  • +2

This movie was terrible. Bad acting from the main character, and the storyline is shiiiite.
    Wouldn't waste your time

  • -1

am i imagining things? i watched this movie about 3-4 weeks ago on disney+, but i believe it was released even before that - how is this only posted today?

  • Thanks OP, bought ten

  • -2

Whenever I report incredibly obvious scams or repeat posts by users with an incredibly poor history of delivering product on here, moderators reply with hand waving nonsense about "letting users decide".

I've decided that spam about streaming services isnt the point of this site, which isnt for news or product updates. No, dont point me at the filter.

    • +3

Hey everyone Ademos 'has decided', you can all go home.

      • -1

It is not appropriate for you to leave a comment haranguing someone for using the system as designed.

Upvote the post if that's your preferred, then move on. You do you, I'll do me.

    • +2

Honestly though, why does it bother you when you can block these types of posts? Makes no sense, sorry. I would say I ever kind of agree with you but the people have spoken and they like it. And if someone doesn’t they can block it.

      • I thought I articulated my reasoning rather well.

        "the people have spoken"

I'm one the people, and I'm speaking. I haven't told anyone else they can't.

And if someone doesn’t they can block it.

They can also leave a negative comment, with reasoning.

It is not appropiate for you to leave a comment haranguing someone for using the system as designed. Please go away.

        • +1

Being a little dramatic there. My comment was about as tame as it gets. Please carry on complaining about something that has zero impact on you and are able to block from your existence. These posts aren’t going anywhere. I’ll look for your next sourpuss downvote in the next one.

          • +1

@zubzub: Shoo. People are allowed to disagree. Go. Away.

            • @Ademos: You have to be trollin.

              • @zubzub: You're not? Mindleslly piling on to someone expressing a slightly different opinion is either trolling or outright bullying. The pile on over something so ridiculously inconsequential, from you and other's, beggars belief. Not to mention when ive clearly expressed I dont care for the sentiment and im not going to agree, you simply will not go. Away.

Is this a narcissitic rage? You are not coping with being told "no". This is a you problem. Lets try it again, together.

                Go. Away.

                • +1

@Ademos: Pot kettle from where I’m sitting.

                  • @mapax: I dont care. Did you vote on the original post? Then you expressed your opinion. I dont need to know it, and im not going to berate you for your individual choice.

Why do you feel the urge to belittle someone online, to the point that you simply cannot walk away without a smartarse remark over something so trifling?

Are you desperately trying to reassure yourself that your part of an in crowd, one of the cool kids, popular, right?

What shortfall in your character are you so desperate to cover off online?

                    Go away.

                • +2

@Ademos: I got no problem with you having a say. But you posted on a public forum and are now upset you got a reply? Ha! You HAVE to be a troll. If not, dear lord you are soft.

                  • @zubzub:

I got no problem with you having a say.

                    I mean, you're lying.

                    why does it bother you

                    Makes no sense

if someone doesn’t they can block it.

                    Being a little dramatic there.

                    Please carry on complaining

I’ll look for your next sourpuss downvote

Your entire commentary has been absolutely nothing but you having a persistent, browbeating whinge because you have a problem with me leveraging the ability I was given to downvote a post.

I heard you, and I don't care. Your complete inability to walk away from someone rejecting your opinion without making an incredibly public fuss and attack is literally textbook narcissistic rage, where you feel a compulsion to address a perceived injury to your social standing.

If it wasn't a compulsion, and wasn't a problem, you'd be capable of shutting up. Right now. And walking away.

But you just can't do it, can you, sport?

                    • @Ademos: Hahaha. I’m just having too much fun now. You’re my favourite kind of troll. The one who pretends he’s trolling but really is triggered on the inside. You’re free to stop responding at any time and move on. I’ll continue until you start boring me. More, please.

                      • @zubzub: You're now filtered. I won't see another comment you post here, ever. How's that last word again champ?

                        • @Ademos: Hahah exactly what I expected you to post. That was too easy.

      • You're not being 'censored' you snowflake, you're not on a public website, you don't have any entitlement here

    • +3

      Three-month-old user yells at cloud.

Imagine my surprise that entrenched elitists don't want to let anyone else have an opinion.

It is not appropriate for you to leave a comment haranguing someone for using the system as designed. Vote the post up, and then please go away.

        • +1

My god, man. Did you get a lump of coal for Christmas? I even mostly agree with you that these posts don't suit the site, but they can be filtered out. You're well and truly entitled to your opinion, but this is an inconsequentially tiny hill to die on.
