Google decided to cut myself and others off from using Google One in Turkey. Credits to @I Smell pennies for this deal last year https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/751330

Today I moved myself and my OzB family to Ukraine using the VPN from this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/823094
There may be cheaper countries out there such as the Philippines or Pakistan but the VPN I had doesn't connect there so I didn't try.
Steps:

  • If you're currently in Turkey or India you'll need to close your current payment profiles in those countries and create one in Ukraine. I am using a standard Westpac Debit card and the residence of the prime minister as the Ukrainian address
  • Fly to Ukraine Connect to a Ukrainian VPN and using an incognito browser confirm you are there by googling "where am I". The VPN linked before took me to the UK twice before sending me to Ukraine.
  • Still using incognito, login to your Google account and go to the Google One page
  • Sign up to whatever plan you want and confirm payment
  • Once payment has been made you can disconnect from the VPN

Important!
If you currently have a YouTube Premium sub in another country (mine was Turkish) you will need to cancel it and re-subscribe with Ukraine. It automatically unsubscribes when your payment method is removed for the country you signed up for.

      I even attempted to purchase Turkish Google Play cards to pay for the subscription but I couldn't get them to activate.

      So I guess if you chose the annual plan it would be fine.

    Reporting Tunnel Bear (got it from https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/343034) does not have Ukraine :( so this isnt attainable for me (yet)…

    on the other hand - i noticed Nigeria (2TB annual) is NGN47,500 (~A$78) compared to A$125 on Google Australia….

    My YT Premium and Google One via Turkey are still going strong (both on separate accounts).

    My YT Premium renews every month as normal. However, my 2TB Google One Annual is due for renewal in a couple weeks so we'll see what happens there. Hoping it goes through as I'd prefer to pay ~$30 year as opposed to ~$90 year.

    I have been buying Turkey annually so that I have some heads up before any renewal issues - it's currently due to expire 11th of Jan.
    There appear to be mixed responses to Turkey renewals - some people say renewals are going through OK but new purchases are not.

    I've already done my Google Takeout of ~800GB of photos/videos in preparation to move countries in case it doesn't renew for another 12 months. I have already set up a Primary card and a Secondary card.

    From my experience, I've had the most success with Google Accounts and Payments by using an old Android phone, doing a factory reset without connecting a google account, sideloading a VPN app, connecting the VPN country and THEN creating a new Gmail account for the country I am interested in (e.g [email protected]) - from then on, you can secure your account, set up payments, cards etc all from within Android with the VPN activated.

    I'm also interested in finding the cheapest country for the moment as I'm thinking of going from 2TB to 5TB

      "creating a new Gmail account for the country I am interested in" -> this suggest that you are using the new account solo, without adding it to family group? i believe for family group, the new account got to be AU address(to be added to family group) then TRY address.

    for a 100GB plan, and for a savings of a paltry $7 spread across 12 months, i am not entirely sure its worth the risk but a deal is a deal and i respect that.

      Might try and find a VPN which has Pakistan and Philippines and see if there's better out there which can be purchased easily.

      This certainly is not as good as the Turkey prices.

    My GoogleOne subscription ends in a couple days and I was considering doing this when I first found out about it earlier this year. Then found out lots of users getting banned by Google and lost access to everything.

    Is it worth getting banned and losing access to everything? Would love to hear from people who have been banned from using this trick.

    Understand that this is not for everybody since most Apple users don’t use Google One and vice versa but you can just easily sign up in app via the Turkish apple App Store on your apple device. No need for VPN or anything else.

        so weird if I try with Philippines and Turkey(after login only shows me AUD prices) it shows the prices of those locations straight away, however with Ukraine doesn't, it goes to Iran, London, etc but not Ukraine location LOL, don't know if it's because the VPN I'm using.

        I had Turkey but removed that payment profile. Then added a new payment profile while connected to Ukraine (VPN). Also confirmed that the VPN was actually to Ukraine and not some other country as I get Ukraine pricing for GoogleOne.
