    • this is specifically for the 250/25mbps speeds. the 50mbps plan has been that price for a while

      • I mean technically Telstra 5G is better but depends on how close you are to the tower. Been getting 600mbps with Telstra 5G.

        • Out of interest, what's your upload speed like on that?

        • +1

Better in terms of speed only, not latency.

        • weirdly i am 150m from the nearest tower but it's unavailable in my area? i remember when i was switching to nbn from adsl2+ they were offering me optus 5g and now even that isn't available in the area

    • yes ,then $80 ongoing which is VERY EXPENSIVE for NBN 50.

  • Had tangerine for 6 months on their Fixed Wireless plan. Not sure what they did but it was initially configured incorrectly, we theoretically should have been on the full 75mbs plan. but they left another UNID open from the previous internet provider so we we're only able to get 50mbs max speeds. Which meant in reality (because it still Fixed Wireless) our speeds were woeful.

Moved to Exetell and the speed jumped up, still as bad a Fixed Wireless, but more tolerable.

    • What plan on Exetel do you have?

      • +1

        75 Wireless plus for $53.99/month

  • Exetel is $83.99 for 6 months, then $98.99 thereafter for 250/25.
Slightly more for the first 6 months, but cheaper for the rest of your stay.

    • +4

but cheaper for the rest of your stay.

      why stay?
regular 6-12 mth (depending on the provider promos) seems like a no brainer when NBN transfer times result in barely any downtime

      • If you would like to. Of course.

        • Who the hell stay with ISP after the churning period? I churned like twice now and it all worked out quite smoothly.

          • +1

@Grey 13: I chose to stay with exetel since they offered to keep giving me $10 off per month, plus I moved all mobile services to them which added to the 'slash my bill' discount. I'm happy where I am on exetel with paying $64.99 per month for 100/20.

            • +2

@SueyJitSu: Used to be with Mates with 100/20 for $65 as well until they upped their prices. Shoot a nice email asking to stay the same price because I was with them for 2 years and got a no.

Churned to Exetel like you. Probably gonna ask by the end of 6 first months. If not getting the same price I'll probably churn again. Not worth the loyalty with any ISP here in Australia.

One of the worst nbn providers iv been with

    • Care to share why?

      • +1

Contant dropouts, speeds fluctuating wildy, late payment fees even if just 1 hour late. Switched to extel problem solved.

Similar with there mobile plans. Got a new number however wont work on doordash, wont work on uber and many other apps. As if i was given a used number.

        • +2

Same experience for me. The dropouts occurred nightly at 8pm. They had no interest in investigating. I'm back with Superloop and zero issues.

        • +1

Same here. They'll find any reason to charge you more. Got stung with a late payment fees of $15 once and a $10 for a bounced direct debit. Both payments were only 1 day late.

          • @AAA111: Yup i now solely use my beyondbank purple transactor account for direct debits as there are zero direct debit, overdrawn account or dishonour fees.

Better to be on the safe side.

    • +1

Surprisingly been okay for me and my folks.

Infact I've had a more stable connection compared to Exetel which kept dropping out after midnight. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    • +2

My experience mirrors yours. Dealing with constant dropouts for over five months led me to make the switch to my current provider. To add insult to injury, they charged me an extra month due to an issue with the invoice details. The discrepancy between the NBN service end date (e.g., 29th) on the invoice and what they called the billing cycle (e.g., 28th) caused confusion. If you use the service end date as the reference for termination, which is the 29th, you end up paying the full following month's service fee despite having no service. If the 29th is not relevant, it should be the first impression on the invoice.

After this ordeal, I've sworn off going back to them and won't be recommending their services to anyone.

      • +1

Was fine for me have used the following providers in order: AussieBB. Superloop, Tangerine, Exetel (Current)

No dropouts through any of these services in fact the only time I've ever experienced "dropouts" were when there was statewide outages that involved the NBN network itself.

    • +1

I guess ymmv, but my experience was pretty positive.
Was with them for the fttp upgrade and had no complaints aside one where the 6 month discount rate was not applied. Otherwise pretty much no dropouts and only moved elsewhere because it's past the 6 month discount period

  • +2

Used this mob before. Was OK for normal use but international speeds and packet loss would fluctuate so gaming sometimes sucked.

Also customer support, as with many telcos, was average. Tried to charge me for another month despite cancelling before current bill cycle, just a hassle to resolve.

  • I paid only $44.90 for 100mbps as I am transitioning to fttp, but I would keep postpone the upgrade for 6 months to keep the low cost

  • +1

I found their NBN connection to be fine but their customer support was just awful, caused total chaos

  • Been with Tangerine and now with Exetel, I like Exetel more. I had like 10 dropouts in the first week with Tangerine, reported to tech support, they have done some device reset @ node or something, dropout reduced to 1~2 /week. With Exetel, no issues at all.

  • +3

Buyer beware with regards to Tangerine Telecom, and their sister company 'More Mobile'

    • Their Customer Service is awful, I have spoken to a few of them and I get the impression that they severely hate their jobs.

    • I attempted to cancel my service at the end of the billing period (last day of the billing period), I tried reaching out to their Live Chat at around 4:30pm on the last day of the billing period and their chat-bot kept saying that live chat is available from [Start time] to 7pm. I reached out to them the next day to inform them that I attempted to reach out to them via Live Chat, the issue I experienced and kindly requested that they back-date the cancellation to the day before based on that, and I was told that they couldn't do that as their system doesn't allow them to back-date and that they recommended I cancel at the end of the new billing period. I reached out to a different agent, and repeated the process and was told the same thing. That bill currently remains unpaid based on principle, I keep getting emails but I'm choosing to ignore them. I told one of the agents that I wouldn't be paying it and asked what options are available for me to take this further and they abruptly ended the chat.

[Edit: I later discovered that you can cancel via your online portal, however I overlooked that ability, but regardless I should have able to contact their Live Support at 4:30pm if their chat was available until 7pm]

    • +1

Regarding Point #2, I was previously told that I couldn't cancel in advance (advance date the cancellation or request cancellation at the end of the billing period) and live chat can only cancel immediately, and that they don't do pro-rata refunds, so I was told to wait until the end of the billing period to cancel the service so I get the full benefit of that month.

      • You can contact the TIO (ombudsman) and make a case, its free to do so. They will give you some guidance. Not paying a bill is never good as it can affect your credit score.

  • +1

I swear nbn is just getting more and more expensive, with worse connections.

Any decent providers doing around $60 a month ongoing for 50Mbps?

    • Leaptel is 12month https://leaptel.com.au/nbn-plans/ for $64.95

      • Thanks, would be good if it was ongoing but that's just another 6 month intro rate. Changes to $74.95 ongoing which is close to what I'm already paying.

        • 12 months with Leaptel, at the end ask for the deal and they usually allow you to stay on the plan. Otherwise just move to superloop for 6months then back to leaptel for another year.

          • @memez: On that page for the 50Mbps it says "$10 discount for 6 months, then $74.95 ongoing" - so not 12 months for that one.

That could work but it's a lot of switching back and forth.

            • @pixxelpusher: My Tangerine 6months honeymoon period is now over and they started charging the full price, I need to shop around for a new career…
What is the disconnection process and any good plans for 100/20 NBN plans? i.e Tangerine nbn is just a vocus reseller.

    • Nothing for $60 ongoing. NBN wholesale prices have gone up so not unexpected.

Best is probably Exetel with the Econnex deal. 50/20 for $60.99/m for 6 months plus $100 Woolies gift card.

  • I would give this company a wide berth as the customer service & billing systems are some of the worse I've experienced. I recently upgraded my in-laws NBN connection from FTTC to FTTP. To obtain the free FTTP upgrade I signed them up to a 250 Mbps Superspeedy plan $104.90 with a $40 discount. Whilst waiting for the upgrade Tangerine placed my in-laws temporarily on a 50 Mbps plan so the first invoice is a little messy having transitioned mid month on the FTTP plan. Yesterday he received the first bill since the FTTP upgrade was completed and to our surprise he is being charged for their top 1000 Mbps plan $124.90 with a $20 monthly discount instead of a $40 discount. I raised a billing case online and after a day they simply replied with the following message 'We have applied a $15 credit….' and promptly closed the case without providing us with an opportunity to respond. Suffice to say this is not even close to the actual amount payable which I have calculated separately. Furthermore no mention of why he is being charged for the 1000 Mbps plan so I suspect this is going to be an ongoing issue. He is definitely not receiving 1000 Mbps speeds. He is clearly on the 250 Mbps plan when I look on their portal.

  • Ah man this is the cheapest I could find for 100/20ish but the comments here makes me think twice

    • you get a money back guarantee so no risk

      • Do you though?

        • yes done it twice

  • I’m very happy with Aussie Broadband. Haven’t had any issues. I recently downgraded to the 25Mbps/10Mbps Unlimited ($75.00) deal due to price increases and it’s working fine.

    • This has to be sarcasm, surely.

  • Do you need notice period to leave tangerine at the end of 6 months? Or can just leave on the last day of the billing cycle without being charged ?

  • I don’t know if it is intentional or through incompetence but I noticed that the upload speed of the network through a wired connection directly connected to the fttp router was capped at 10Mbps which was substantially slower than through wifi where i was achieving around 21Mbps (it was 250/25)

I could not get to the truth with their 2ndline tangerine technicians (over a couple of weeks) but I suspect they may be doing some crude packet snooping which incorrectly assumes all wired traffic was torrents

Anyway the issue was solved in 15 minutes by moving the fttp port to launtel. They did not change the fttp or the router configuration.. i monitored the upload before and after.

Anyway I got refunded as they had a 30 day service guarantee and i had a bunch of support tickets

I'm with Spintel, horrible helpdesk but I am paying $75 for 250 down, 20 up 12 months, then goes to $86.
Just had the FTTP go active today after being on a 100 down 20 up temp plan for a month to tie me over.
Issue is, helpdesk is offshore and they really don;t understand your questions when you explain the simplest of things.
I haven't had any dropouts but email works then times out every now and then.
Again don't care for the $ I am paying.

    • +2

I think you have found quite the bargain here. $75 for the 250 plan seems like a good deal. Might give it a shot.

      • I have just signed up too for the same 250/20 plan.
The planned connection date is tomorrow. We'll see how it goes.

  • no IPv6 :-(

  • Is new customer 6 months? or longer

  • they charged me 4 days after ceased their service (end of billing day) to Exetel.

They were trying to blame me for not notifying them, and accused me to pay for the bill. In fact, I received a goodbye sms from Tangerine on the last day of their service.

Connection was fine, but customer service was horrible.

    • I had this problem as well, though to be honest I didn't give them notification. Which was my fault. Find it bs that they will charge you a full month though and not pro rata.

When I mentioned the telecommunication ombudsman they cancelled without any problems and waived the fee.

  • Tangerine's definition of a new customer according to the pdf

"The offer is only available once per customer and per premises."
