could do with less MFs around me

  • Ecotank or laser printer for home use? I have bought epson ecotank 3 yrs ago

    • Laser gives better quality IMO

In my experience, for text, laser is better, but for photo, inkjet is better if you use better special paper, but all inkjet result will be useless once you spill a bit water on it T_T

        Not for photos

    • Unless you have some gripe with the ecotank, I would stick with that. Laser might be better print quality at first, until the 3d party toner (because genuine costs too much) starts leaving blotches and streaks. I've had a series of Brothers, usually one monochrome and one colour, over the years and I'm never going back. Good riddance if you ask me! My ecotank never jams either.
I do use thicker (100gsm) paper for double-sided printing.

    No duplex scanning

  • anyone tried these with third party inks?

    • +1

You don’t need third party inks for these as the bottles from Epson already super cheap, $15 per bottle per colour.

      • and would last around 2 years per bottle for most people…

      • They seem to be from $25 per colour for 120grams.

  • Do these have typical inkjet problems of heads blocking if you don't use them for a while?

    • yes. you have to print everyweek. Otherwise will have clogged problems. I do have one which is more than 3 yrs old and dying. Doing head cleaning almost everyday before printing :(

      • My brother inkjet does a self cleaning routine.

I've got the ET3800 and it needs zero maintenance other than replacing the waste cartridge and refilling ink. I have had it for over 1 year and not replaced a single item yet! I also came with a Epson store voucher that was enough for a complete set of consumables + I bought photo paper and was amazed how it looks when printing onto photo paper vs normal paper. The photos are definitely good enough for around the house or albums.

These eco tanks are a game changer in my opinion.

  • Any good deal on the printer only model?
